ME! Such a great photo, in my opinion, by John Kaiser.

Diary Post #216

Hello Everyone, I truly want to thank all of you for the heartfelt wishes and love you have expressed to me since hearing ‘my not in foal at this moment’ news! You are so sweet and gracious in your kindness to nurture ME at this time! I so appreciate all of your concern! I am really doing fine. In reality, this is not an uncommon thing to happen with a maiden mare like I am. It happened early in the breeding season so I will have ample time to be bred again and get in foal. As I mentioned before, so many things in life don’t always go as planned. Upon reflection, I know with my career, it would have been great to run at 2 or early 3…but I just wasn’t ready. Fortunately, MY TEAM knew that and worked with me on my own individual developmental schedule. In relation… Continue Reading

Diary Post #215

Good Morning, Dottie and John thought this would be fun to share with you. Here are Giacomo’s Jockey Club papers. The reason these are REALLY SPECIAL is the 2nd line on the back of his papers have the following information recorded in his OFFICIAL RECORD: Date Won: 5/7/05 Net Value to Winner: 1,639,600 Type of Race: STAKE Distance: 1 1/4 Name of Stake or Handicap: “THE KENTUCKY DERBY” Grade 1 Name of Track: Churchill Downs Racing Secretary or By: Doug Bredar Now this is truly TOO CUTE! The Kentucky Derby…WOW! On the front, you see several markings and notes added to his papers. In the comments and responses, many of you have asked what these things mean. Basically, they pertain to health requirements being noted when a horse travels to various states. Giacomo ran in California, Kentucky, Maryland and NY. The NYRA (New York Racing Association) put their tag /… Continue Reading

OH MY!

Diary Post #214

Hello Everyone, In life, we all have things that don’t always go as hoped or planned. I am not any different than anyone else. At Lane’s End, they did a recheck on me today and discovered that I am no longer in foal. Just as with humans, horses also have this type of thing happen. I am feeling terrific! I am totally looking forward to becoming a MOM in the future. I want everything to be perfect when that time comes! With Love, Hugs to ALL~ Z

Diary Post #213

Happy Tuesday Everyone, I hope all of you are having a wonderful week! The postcards for the contest are steadily arriving. You have several more days to get yours to us! Good Luck to ALL! This is TOO CUTE! My John was sitting on the floor in the den last night reading many of them aloud to Dottie. It is so touching to hear the loving comments you have written about ME! THANK YOU for sharing these kind words with ME and MY TEAM! Yesterday, I shared the front part of my JOCKEY CLUB PAPERS with you! The back portion of them is also very, very important. This is where THE OFFICIAL RECORD of Races Won in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico is recorded for a horse. After each race, the WINNER has the following information properly recorded by a racing official on his/her papers: Date Won, Net… Continue Reading

Diary Post #212

Good Morning, I hope you had a great weekend! The MARCH MADNESS games are now entering the FINAL 4! Congratulations to our local team, the KENTUCKY WILDCATS, for all of their success to this point in the tournament! This town is so excited. Also, so many interesting races took place over the weekend. Wow! There is so much going on in sports. I absolutely love it! Since it is the foaling season and lots of new baby horses are being born, I wanted to share with you how the data for the birth is officially recorded for a horse. This is done through the JOCKEY CLUB PAPERS. MINE are in the photo above for you to see! Literally, one’s Jockey Club papers are the true official document that follows a race horse throughout its life. They are extremely important…much like a Birth Certificate for a human. When a foal is… Continue Reading

My friend, ZARDANA, sending her HELLOS to ME! Photo by John Shirreffs

Diary Post #211

Good Morning, All of you are SO SWEET! Thank you so much for the warm wishes on my 28 Day Scan Results. I’m doing great and TRULY APPRECIATE all of your kind comments. The next big date is the 42 day scan. As Dottie has mentioned earlier, it is a very important one. After this, if all is A-OK, the pregnancy is considered to be ‘pretty secure’ and well on its way. HOOVES CROSSED, for sure! This morning, John sent this photo to ME! He wanted ME to know that my friends at BARN 55 are also sending their regards. Here’s ZARDANA sending her greetings to ME! I’d know that TREE anywhere. I’ve stood there for zillions of hours over the last 4 years. It is great to see her again and to keep in touch with my dear friends at the barn. The postcards are starting to arrive for… Continue Reading

Diary Post #210

Good Morning Everyone, This is such a fabulous, fabulous day! I am so excited for my dear friend, LIFE IS SWEET! She had a lovely bay COLT yesterday…March 23…by SMART STRIKE. Here she is with him when he is just several hours old. She is snuggling up and bonding with him in the stall. She will be a WONDERFUL MOTHER. Life is Sweet is such a loving horse. I know she will share all of her fabulous qualities with her new FOAL. I’m experiencing so many new concepts in my life right now. I know my dear friend will be a wonderful MOTHERHOOD role model for ME! She is a first time MOM now like I will be next year. This makes it all so interesting! Life is Sweet told me that foals normally stand up very soon after they are born. They may be a little wobbly at first… Continue Reading

Good Morning Everyone! What a fun day! I have so many wonderful things going on in my life that I want to share with you! Firstly, HERE I AM…in the above photo…DANCING! It is a photo of my BRONZE. YEAH! Dottie was able to request #19/100 for the contest. Bet you can’t guess why she wanted this particular number? We thought it would have a great deal of meaning and significance, for sure! So, 19 is the NUMBERED BRONZE being reserved for our LUCKY WINNER. Also, she met with the postal people again yesterday afternoon and this is the address to use when mailing your post cards for the contest. Please address the cards exactly as follows: ZENYATTA John Shirreffs 511 S. TOO CUTE! Members of Barn 55 sending me a BIG HELLO! Photo by Michelle Jensen

Diary Post #208

Happy Monday Everyone! I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend. It was nice here…and I know it was pretty on the East Coast. California had quite a bit of rain. It is probably their last few days of rain for this season so it is good they had it. It was great weather to enjoy all of the MARCH MADNESS games on TV. The teams have now gone from 64 to 32 and the Sweet Sixteen play next weekend! Good luck to all who have made it to this level! I just love this photo of my friends from BARN 55 hanging out in MY STALL! There’s my Mario and Steve sending me a big HELLO. They are on each side of the group. Junior, posed in the front, used to walk me and graze me often in the afternoons. Cheva did too. They tried to help Mario… Continue Reading

MIKIE and ME on the BILLBOARD in ARKANSAS. Photo sent to us by David Longinotti

Diary Post#207

HAPPY SATURDAY! I hope you have a wonderful weekend. There is some great racing going on around the country today and March Madness continues to be very exciting. So many last minute shots and 3 pointers really change the outcome of a game so quickly. Look at the local Kentucky teams. Louisville lost in the last few moments the other evening and the University of Kentucky secured their win in the final seconds. That is like MY SPORT. A PHOTO FINISH going one way or another or the BOB of a head can be the difference between winning and losing. I guess that is why SPORTING ACTIVITIES are so THRILLING. Every move counts! Last week when my jockey, MIKE, was going to ride in Arkansas at Oaklawn Park, he called Dottie to mention the huge BILLBOARD he saw with US on it. John contacted his friends at that race track… Continue Reading
