Happy Saturday! On May 10th, the PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS WOMEN of CALIFORNIA will be holding their yearly conference at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. This organization was founded in 1989 by U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Speier. It is dedicated to advancing the professional and personal development of women of all ages and and on all levels. The PBWC provides tools, resources, and a strong business community to encourage women to succeed and contribute at the highest levels in all aspects of various fields, businesses and industries. I am honored to say that I have just learned one of my fans has spoken to them about ALL of my accomplishments as a Female Athlete who achieved this success while residing in California. As a result, the PBWC wants to include me in their program. How proud and flattered I am at this moment! I’m pretty sure a HORSE has not been… Continue Reading

Diary Post #234

Good Morning to ALL! Yesterday was so much FUN! The 60 MINUTES Crew was here to take photos of ME for an update they are doing. All went very well! I gather they are going to replay part of the segment they did on ME in October and then add the current updates! From what we are hearing, they will show it as part of this SUNDAY’S program! When my paddock mates and I were out in the field playing together, I was so tempted to get down in the field and roll! Then as I was almost at that point of getting down on my knees, I saw all of the camera crews arriving and thought it would be much more fun to go over and greet all of the people. I can roll in the field anytime. So, that’s what I did! Everyone was so kind! I can’t… Continue Reading

Diary Post #233

Happy, Happy Thursday to Everyone! This is a very exciting day for several reasons! First of all, I am getting some fun visitors from the 60 Minutes Crew! They did such a great segment on ME when I was at Barn 55. Their staff came and spent a complete week with John, MYSELF, and all of My Team. Now they are coming out to Lane’s End to get some current footage of ME for a follow-up piece. This will be fun! My paddock mates and I will all be looking TOO CUTE for them! David has been speaking with their offices to help get it all organized. I’ll let you know when 60 Minutes is going to air this piece. I’ve heard…it could be this Sunday…but I’ll find out more once everyone is at the farm with ME! On another note, I want to THANK ALL OF YOU FOR ASKING… Continue Reading

AND THE WINNER IS…..???? Photo by John Shirreffs

Diary Post #232

Good Morning Everyone! I’M BACK! It is a wonderful Wednesday morning in Kentucky! All is terrific…but a bit wet. We have had a substantial amount of rain lately in Lexington and I understand Louisville has had their share as well. With all of the Kentucky Derby and Oaks preparations going on in that city now, the rain has even caused some changes in the training schedules for several of the horses. It is supposed to lighten up soon….so HOOVES CROSSED. Dottie did tease me and say that it is sunny and pretty in California right now. I truly want to thank ALL OF YOU who participated in the contest by either mailing in an entry and / or voting for one of the four contestants. All of the cards were beautifully done and very sweet and emotional to read. As stated in an earlier Diary, right before leaving for the… Continue Reading

Diary Post #231

Good Morning Everyone! This photo is TOO CUTE! It’s my guy, Mike Smith, who helped us select the FINAL 4 for our ZENYATTA BRONZE CONTEST! Mike stopped by Dottie and John’s last night and held my reins in his hands…just like he did when we were racing. I think this definitely got him IN THE ZENYATTA MOOD to select our Final 4! This photo brings back great memories…for both Mike and I! We had lots of great times together! The names of the FINAL 4 will be given…along with the thoughts each person expressed as to what I meant to he / she. Go to the bottom of this diary post and click the button next to the person whose entry you think deserves to win. Click the Vote button, and you’ll see the current results. We will allow the voting to take place for one week. The winner will… Continue Reading

ZENYATTA LOUNGE is represented at the ON TRACK TO BEAT CANCER WALK last Sunday at Santa Anita. Photo by John Shirreffs

Diary Post #230

Good Morning, As many of you know, last Sunday Santa Anita did such a fabulous thing! They worked with The City of Hope to get people WALKING and FUNDRAISING for Cancer Research! A large crowd of people showed up to participate…including my wonderful friends from the Zenyatta Lounge. They made large signs as you can see in the above photo to help promote the event! Dottie and John also attended…John with camera in hand…to get some photos for you. Everyone gathered in the paddock right after the last race. The walk proceeded through the tunnel to the racetrack. This is just what I would do when I raced. Then the fans walked on the track to the top of the stretch where Santa Anita placed the starting gate. This way all of the fans could walk through the gate and experience things just like I would before a race. After… Continue Reading

YEAH…IT’S MY PAL, EL VINO, SAYING HELLO! Photo by John Shirreffs

Diary Post #229

HAPPY MONDAY, EVERYONE! I hope all of you had a great weekend. The Preps really put everything into a BIG UNKNOWN for the Kentucky Derby! It will be interesting to see how it all plays out during the next few weeks! This is such a FUN time of the year! Yesterday was very exciting! EL VINO, my gallant workmate for many of my pre-race workouts, is now having a fun time on the track and winning his own races. He was such a great sport last year and really worked hard to assist me with my racing career. Now he is having his own success. I AM SO PROUD OF HIM! When a horse is preparing for BIG RACES and competing on a very high level, the workouts need to be challenging and solid to substantiate the preparation. One needs to be extremely fit and ready for competition. In 2010,… Continue Reading

ME…modeling my APPLE BLOSSOM Saddle Towel! Photo by John Shirreffs

Diary Post #227

HAPPY APPLE BLOSSOM HANDICAP DAY! I just LOVE this race and want to wish all of the participants GOOD LUCK! It was an absolute thrill to go to Oaklawn Park on the 2 different times I participated in the APPLE BLOSSOM HANDICAP—Grade 1. Mr. Cella and his staff were fabulous to us, the fans outstanding, and the weather was beautiful! I even had a police escort to be sure the traffic was moving right along as I was in the van going to the track from my plane and then when I returned to the plane after my stay in Arkansas. I must also say that the Apple Blossom trees located by the outdoor paddock were gorgeous! I vividly remember standing under them as I ‘schooled’ for the race. GREAT TIMES and GREAT MEMORIES…for sure! Also, later today we are drawing the names of the ELITE EIGHT for our contest!… Continue Reading

Diary Post #226

Good Morning, Firstly, I’d like to mention how ADORABLE all of you are as you respond to the SWEET SIXTEEN participants in the contest. You are so supportive of each other! This is absolutely TOO CUTE! Upon reading your comments and responses, I see the same KINDNESS and SUPPORT you have shown to ME during my career…and I realize again for the zillionth time how appreciative I am of ALL of YOU! We will draw the ELITE EIGHT tomorrow…and they will be published on Saturday! Good Luck to ALL! You have also asked what will happen with the postcards after the contest. As I mentioned in the original contest guidelines, by submitting a card to ME for the drawing, you are also granting your permission for ME to use your card in the future. John and Dottie have been reading them and enjoying all of your wonderful and inspirational thoughts…. Continue Reading
