Diary Post #331
Good Morning, Everyone! Recently, I was relaxing in the paddock thinking about all of the activities planned for the future. My Team and I have been really working on some exciting plans. They are constantly monitoring my well-being…which is always their #1 goal. Additionally, my pals at Lane’s End always make sure I am in fabulous shape and taking great care of myself. Just think….I am going to be a MOM! All of this is really very exciting! It is also that time of the year when so many people in our industry focus on the YEARLING SALES! The September Keeneland Yearling Sale is one of the largest sales in the entire industry. People from all over the world travel to Lexington for this sale with the hope of purchasing young horses who will ultimately enrich their racing programs. As you may know, this is the sale I was purchased… Continue Reading

Good Morning, We are really enjoying rather pleasant weather in Lexington these days. My pal, Tasty Temptation, and I were out in our paddock and suddenly we decided we would ‘scratch each other’s back’. As you can see, Mathea was there just at that moment and took the perfect photo of us. I scratched TT’s back…and she sweetly gave me a nice little back rub at the same time. I must say that she and I are really dear friends. We get along beautifully. I know about TEAMWORK…as I have been part of a TEAM my entire racing career. Thus, I know how truly important it is to work together to achieve goals. It is so nice to have a friend there to help you out when needed. With Love, Hugs to All~ Z

Good Morning, I must say this was such an exciting weekend of racing! So many of the graded stakes races we all watched were truly ‘thrillers’…with several of them requiring the aid of a photo finish camera to determine the winner. My Barn 55 friend, Mr. Commons, lost by a ‘tiny’ nose in Del Mar’s Mile G2 Stakes. He ran an incredible race against older, very accomplished horses. Everyone at the barn really applauded him for his outstanding effort and accomplishment. I think Mr. C also felt rather proud of his race and the way he performed. When he returned to the barn after running, he was happy, playful, ready to graze and enjoy himself. He wanted lots of hugs, kisses, treats and attention! A high-hoof to you, MR. C. I’m wishing you all the best as your racing career continues to develop! Yesterday, the Pacific Classic G1 at Del… Continue Reading

Happy Friday! As you can see, I’m getting my BEAUTY REST and making sure that I am taking great care of myself these days! Additionally, I want to get plenty of rest so I can be energized and watch all of the terrific weekend of racing on both coasts. I’m going to be spending tons of time with my guys here at LANE’S END handicapping and watching the races. The conversation around the barn is already heating up now on who likes who in which race…and why! It is great FUN! From Saratoga, running the Travers and the King’s Bishop… to Del Mar carding the Pat O’Brien and the Pacific Classic to name a few of the quality stakes running the next few days, it will be one very sporting weekend. Uncle Mo…is making his first start back in the King’s Bishop since ‘feeling under the weather’ around Kentucky Derby… Continue Reading

Good Morning, dear friends! It is such a glorious day outside. As a result, I am able to just stand under the trees and graze for a bit. This is just like I would do at Barn 55! It reminds me so much of those moments in my California Home! The weather has been rather lovely…and I am enjoying every single moment of my time outdoors. I must say, I have adjusted beautifully to my new life and my ‘new career’ as a MOM-TO-BE! I am wearing my ‘sunglasses’ often these days…not just for the sun but to keep those ‘adorable…yet pesty flies’ off my face. These masks really work. As you can see, I am ‘growing’ a bit…but in all of the right ways. While relaxing and grazing, I do use the time to think about so many things! It is always interesting to reflect upon what one has… Continue Reading

Good Morning, Yesterday was an especially FUN and REWARDING DAY for ME! I was able to relax, graze, and reconnect with dear friends. As many of you may know, one charity I have consistently worked to help throughout ALL of my career is OLD FRIENDS. This organization which is based out of Kentucky (and now has a branch, The Frankel Division, in New York by Saratoga) works to enable “OLD” racehorses….no matter what their ages….to live their lives with joy, purpose, and dignity. Michael Blowen is the founder of OLD FRIENDS. Yesterday, he came out to visit with ME and update ME on the progress, accomplishments, and goals we are meeting….and how I have helped in this quest. A dear friend of Michael’s, for many years…since he was a writer for the Boston Globe….came along for the visit. I think she was truly as excited to MEET ME as I… Continue Reading

Good Morning, It is another lovely day here in Lexington. I know it is pretty in Del Mar with very comfortable weather in the low 70′s. MY JOHN and Dottie went to Arcadia on Monday to spend time with the horses John currently has stabled at Santa Anita. They commented it was really very pleasant for this time of the year…in the low to mid 80′s. I’ve heard the East Coast has been much more ‘comfortable’ the last few days and they’ve had a bit of rain. Several of the turf races at Saratoga yesterday were taken ‘off the turf’ as the course was listed as ‘soft’ from the earlier rains. Weather is such an interesting thing to contemplate. I must say that I do like it a bit on the ‘cool’ side. I know MY JOHN always commented that is one thing we horses enjoyed so much when going… Continue Reading

Happy Monday to All! I truly hope you had a wonderful weekend and really enjoyed yourselves and all of the competitive racing that took place around the country. I sure did….so much so I thought I’d DANCE for a bit! I must admit, that this is just part of my nature…to DANCE whenever I feel terrific! I love doing the “ZENYATTA”. I’d also like to congratulate all of the winners who ran from coast to coast over the weekend. It makes for such FUN when the racing is as exciting as it has been lately. I’d especially like to congratulate my owners on SISTER MOON’S maiden victory yesterday at Del Mar. She is a two year old filly by Dixie Union who was making her very first start. She is a homebred for their racing program…which really makes it all so special and so rewarding! Not only did she win… Continue Reading

Happy Friday! I hope all of you are making some fun plans for the weekend. I am! This morning I had the most relaxing time. Not only did I have a very cool and refreshing BATH, but I also got to play in the water with my guys! It felt terrific! As you can see, it is a very pretty morning in Lexington. Lane’s End is such a beautiful place to live. I am really enjoying myself. Sarah took these photos this morning so you could get a chance to see ME as I am at this very moment. I’m doing everything just as a should….as an expectant MOM…. and I am really starting to have that ‘IN FOAL’ look. Baby-to-be and I are doing GREAT! Everyone is so gracious to ME! My dear paddock pal, Tasty Temptation, and I are enjoying every single moment of this attention. I must… Continue Reading

Good Morning All! John and Dottie were on their way back to the barn yesterday afternoon when these adorable POODLES were driving right next to them with their owner. SOPHIE thought they looked just like her….only MUCH bigger! John simply had to get this photo. (Needless to say, Dottie was driving!) The 2 dogs in the back sure seemed to be enjoying every moment of the summer breeze while driving around town. I think lots of our 4-legged pals LOVE DEL MAR! The real point of John and Dottie’s trip from the barn was to go to the market and purchase more dandelion leaves for the horses. Per MY JOHN, they absolutely love them! I do remember that John always tried to have some fun and different things for us to munch on and play with all of the time….often with the primary objective being to change the pace from… Continue Reading
