Today's Entry Day! TOM looks SO HAPPY! Photo by John Shirreffs

Diary Post #368

Good Morning, This is going to be one FUN yet BUSY WEEK! This morning entries are being taken for both days of OUR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS. A very specific procedure must be followed. Every trainer is to formally enter each horse for the specific race he / she is participating in by 10 a.m. Eastern Time. The final entry fees must be paid and the jockey named. MY JOHN went to the Racing Office right after his horses trained this morning and did his entries. YEAH, JOHN! When entries close at 10 a.m. Eastern, the Racing Office officials then prepare the paperwork for each race in relation to the post-position draw. This is going to be televised on HRTV at 1 p.m. Eastern Time. Once the post positions are finalized, the Racing Form, the professional handicappers, and all publicity sources will be able to compile the information for the public. Official… Continue Reading

HERE I AM WITH THE MOSS'...AT THE LOS ANGELES ZOO! PHOTO FROM THEIR PERSONAL ALBUM

Diary Post #367

Good Morning, Now, this is TOO CUTE! Here I am as one of the rides on the newly created childrens’ carousel at the Los Angeles Zoo. Thursday, my dear owners attended the Zoo’s Press Conference to unveil the TOM MANKIEWICZ CONSERVATION CAROUSEL. The Moss’ were quite instrumental in the development of this project and it was with great joy that they attended yesterday’s event. Not only did they love seeing US…GIACOMO, TIAGO, ME, and the many other beautifully crafted animals…but they also wanted to honor their dear friend, TOM, for all of his hard work in helping to make this happen. This carousel was truly meant to be something very special for all children and their families who visit the L. A. ZOO. I’ve heard many of our “Z DUMPLINGS” are planning a trip there soon. Please keep us posted with the updates on your adventure! As for other news,… Continue Reading

Diary Post #366

Good Morning, We have all had a day to review the Breeders’ Cup pre-entries and the anticipated fields. It will be very interesting to follow the cross-entered horses as they finalize their racing plans. The next step in the ENTRY process for the Championship EVENTS will take place on October 31st. This is the day when the connections formally ENTER their horse for a specific race and the final fees are paid by the owner. Fourteen horses will be accepted for the BODY of each field and 2 also-eligibles…if the race is over-subscribed. To quote the Breeders’ Cup Horsemens’ Information Guide on the final entry options which might be considered on this day, “A horse will be permitted to enter 2 Breeders’ Cup Championships races under the following conditions: (i) the horse is eligible for both races; (ii) the races will be contested on different days; (iii) the pre-entry and… Continue Reading

The history of our sport is so special! Photo by John Shirreffs

Diary Post #365

Happy Wednesday! This morning, the fields will be announced for the 2011 World Championships. I’ve just heard that 193 horses did pre-enter for this year’s events! 29 of them will be coming from overseas! In our sport, so many wonderful horses…so accomplished, so talented, so dedicated…have paved the way for ALL OF US who followed. MY JOHN saw this collage and couldn’t resist taking the photo. He absolutely loves and respects the history of our sport. It is so important to take the time and honor horses who have done so much for our industry. When you trace pedigree lines so many of these names appear. These horses and their accomplishments truly did impact our sport….not just on a racing level…but to the breeding sheds for decades and decades. I wonder…as they announce the fields this morning….which horses will be etching his / her names into the historical journals for… Continue Reading

Training at Hollywood Park.

Diary Post #364

Video by Michelle Jensen. Watch it here. Good Morning, I hope you are all doing well…and your week is off to a splendid beginning! In our thoroughbred world, the pre-entries were taken yesterday for the World Championship Racing Days which take place this year on November 4th and 5th at Churchill Downs. Next year, they will be at Santa Anita again in California. (I remember it ALL so well!) Tomorrow the fields for each specific race will be announced. Then…let the handicapping and analysis begin. My Moss pal, COZI ROSIE, is preparing for the Filly and Mare Turf. This race will take place late Friday afternoon. (The same day as MY PARTY!) Cozi is currently training at Hollywood Park and will take a flight this weekend to Churchill Downs. I must say, the horse transportation crews have the schedules so well-organized. Their flight plans and times are very specific as… Continue Reading

Silks of the KEENELAND STAKES WINNERS line their Paddock Area. Many of these races are preps for the World Championship Events each year! Photo by John Shirreffs

Diary Post #363

Good Morning, It is October 24th…the day for Pre-Entries to take place for the 2011 Breeders’ Cup. This means that ALL horses who are hoping to run in the World Championship races this year must let the officials know their plans by going through the pre-entry process. By noon today East Coast time, a pre-entry form for each participating horse and the fees must be submitted to the Breeders’ Cup Office. The BC Staff, in turn, will compile the various entries for each race and get them ready for publication. A horse may be pre-entered for 2 events at this time. On the form, the owner/trainer places a 1 by their first choice and a 2 by their second race option. If the horse is planning on just one race, that is the only race these connections pre-enter for at this time. If a race does not “overfill”…which means less… Continue Reading

What do you think, Matt? Will she win #15? Photo by Sarah Campion

Diary Post #362

Happy Friday to ALL! I so hope all of you are well…and our friends who needed some of our ‘special thoughts’ earlier this week are doing better! Recently, I have spent some time outdoors with Matt contemplating so many different things. On Saturday, BLACK CAVIAR is competing in the G2–Schweppes Stakes at Moonee Valley Racecourse. She is going for her 15th victory in a row…with the hope of becoming 15 for 15. Here’s wishing her a safe and successful trip! This is quite an accomplishment to achieve the first 14 victories…so all the best to her! Then in America, we have some wonderful races taking place over the next few days. New York has their Showcase Day on Saturday. The Breeders’ Cup prep events are concluded and we are now gearing up for the Pre-Entries to be taken on Monday morning. It is getting quite exciting! The majority of horses… Continue Reading

My Breeder came to visit ME! - Photo by Sarah Campion

Diary Post #361

Good Morning, Yesterday’s post…thank you for all of your loving comments! A few days ago, I had some very special visitors. The man on the left is Don Robinson. I was foaled and raised at his farm, Winter Quarter, in Lexington, Kentucky…not too far from where I live now. He has come to visit ME several times during my racing career and since I’ve returned to Kentucky. I know him very well! The gentleman on the right, scratching one of my favorite spots, is my breeder, Eric Kronfeld. Wow! It was so great to see both of them. Eric followed MY racing career very closely and constantly stayed in touch with what was going on in MY LIFE with MY TEAM. Both of these gentlemen touched my life in a very special way. In reality, if it wasn’t for my breeder planning the mating that he did for my MOM,… Continue Reading

One thing for sure, by reading these comments, I do feel many of you have made some very special friendships….and for this I am quite pleased and proud! Photographers are TOO CUTE! Photo by Sarah Campion

Diary Post #359

Good Morning, So much is going on these days in Lexington. I have such a busy schedule. It is my understanding that I even have a ‘CALENDAR’ that Dottie coordinates with Sarah each week to be sure I am where I need to be and when at the farm each day. I am having so much fun! This SECOND CAREER aspect of my life is rather exciting! Needless to say, it is absolutely necessary for them to schedule in times for ‘HAIR, MANE AND HOOF’ care. As you know, I truly want to LOOK MY BEST! Nicholas Karem is one of the photographers who was at Lane’s End last week shooting photos of ME. He is working with LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE. They are currently doing a piece involving ME right now. He really tried to get some very ‘unique’ shots. I sure hope I LOOK FABULOUS! He said I DID! This… Continue Reading
