Diary Post #428

Good Morning Dear Friends, It has been a very busy weekend on so many levels. I hope you enjoyed yours. TASTY and I had a very restful and happy time. We are BOTH doing very well and our pregnancies are advancing beautifully. Several of you have recently asked about TASTY in your responses, so I wanted to be sure and update you on her this morning. ALL IS WELL! I’d also like to THANK YOU for the wonderful birthday messages sent to Mrs. Chenery. I’ve heard she really enjoyed your gracious comments and warm greetings. She asked that I send you her regards. The weekend of racing proved to be very exciting. The 3 year olds are really starting to stretch their legs with the hope of moving forward to the Kentucky Oaks or Derby. Congratulations to ALL of the winners over the weekend. The Sunshine Millions races were revamped… Continue Reading

HAPPY 90TH BIRTHDAY, MRS. CHENERY! Good Morning, What a lovely way to start the day…wishing Mrs. Penny Chenery ALL THE VERY BEST on her 90th BIRTHDAY! From my entire TEAM and all of BARN 55, we would like to send her the warmest wishes and a big HIGH HOOF on her special day! I was very blessed to meet Mrs. Chenery when she came to Hollywood Park in October, 2010. She was there to present the Trophy for the Ladies’ Secret–G1. For this meet, Oak Tree was held at Hollywood Park. In this race, I was competing to remain undefeated and for my 19th victory in a row. It was quite a day! Mrs. Chenery wanted to come and see ME in the paddock and be there for the event. She commented to the press that “SHE WANTED TO SEE ME DANCE”! She later told them, “I WAS IN HER… Continue Reading

Diary Post #426

Dear friends, Thank you so much for ALL of your fabulous wishes and comments about ME and my Baby Bump! I do feel wonderful and your kind words are greatly appreciated. It was so meaningful yesterday afternoon to read Laura Sanchez’ Face Book post stating “everyone should feel that their bodies are beautiful and that they have purpose and strength!” Speaking for myself, I agree! I do feel I have a very positive self-concept. I believe this stems not only from my own personal feelings, but from the people around ME each day and the manner in which they lovingly care and interact with ME. In life, it seems like certain sayings last the test of time for a reason…they prove to hold great meaning and truth. Based upon my life’s experiences and the people I have been blessed to be around, 2 sayings are particularly special: 1) “IT IS… Continue Reading

It's ME! Photo by Sarah Campion

Diary Post #425

Hello Everyone, At times, I would imagine we all do this, individuals mentally review the different things going on in their lives. A moment of quiet reflection can be such a positive thing. I usually do this type of ‘thinking’ when I am out walking quietly in my paddock…enjoying the environment, nature, and all of the beauty and peace surrounding ME. This morning, while I was out grazing and snacking in my paddock, I admittedly came to the conclusion that I have put on a ‘bit of weight’ lately! Not too much….the proper amount…but my body has definitely changed! While I was contemplating this thought, and of course APPRECIATING the fact that I am currently eating for TWO, I did conclude that I look rather fabulous for a mare at this stage of her pregnancy. My coat is great…my dapples are glowing…and my muscles are still quite ‘toned up’. Having… Continue Reading

TASTY...we need to chat! Photo by Sarah Campion

Diary Post #424

Hello, I was walking around my paddock this morning and thought it might be a terrific idea if TASTY and I chatted and compared notes on all of the BABY NEWS we are hearing lately. Watching our friend, Rachel Alexandra, and her new colt has made me think! I must say, the photo of the baby reaching up to KISS his MOM was absolutely TOO CUTE! TASTY and I were both bred on April 3rd. We each conceived on that date as well….so we are at exactly the same stage and number of days into our pregnancies. Time is moving right along! Our ‘baby bumps’ are definitely SHOWING…which is good news. Speaking for myself, my little one does like to move about…and you can definitely see a bit of a ‘shift’ in my tummy area now and then when he or she is doing so. The upcoming weeks will definitely… Continue Reading

Diary Post #423

Happy Monday! What an incredible weekend! So many fun and exciting things happened here in Kentucky…and the World of Sports! It is amazing how much can take place in just a few days! I hope your weekend was equally enjoyable! Firstly, I want to wish MATT, my dear friend here at Lane’s End, a HAPPY “BELATED” BIRTHDAY! His actual birthday was on Saturday…and we all had a great time sharing it with him. He is such a special friend to ME and always so attentive to my every wish. I can’t THANK HIM enough and truly wish him a fabulous year in every regard! YEAH, MATT! I’d also like to send a note of CONGRATULATIONS to my racing friend and colleague, RACHEL ALEXANDRA, on the birth of her first foal…a bay colt by Curlin. Per all of the reports we are reading this morning, she foaled January 22nd at 2:40… Continue Reading

The view from my paddock yesterday at 7:45 in the morning! Photo by Sarah Campion

Diary Post #422

Good Morning and Happy Friday to Everyone, Photography is such an amazing thing! Today, I wanted to share with you some of the gorgeous views TASTY and I have each day from our paddock. We truly have such a beautiful environment…and we actually do take the time to appreciate how fortunate we are! Yesterday was a lovely morning, and our dear pal, Sarah, was kind enough to take some of these photos for US to share with ALL of YOU! Along this line, I wanted to make ALL of YOU aware of a FILM FESTIVAL that is being sponsored by HRTV and SANTA ANITA. It might be something many of you, who are real film and photography enthusiasts, would like to participate in during the upcoming months. To quote the HRTV/SANTA ANITA news release sent to Dottie, “Santa Anita Park and HRTV have announced plans for a first-ever non-fiction documentary… Continue Reading

GIACOMO....cuddling up to a friend! Photo from Geri Bidwell's files

Diary Post #421

Hello, What a sweet photo this is! Our pal, GIACOMO, is now residing at Magali Farm in California. Here he is cuddling up to a friend of ours, Geri, who was recently visiting the farm with her family. Can you imagine what a lovely and dear horse he is! As a stallion, “G” is so warm and friendly. Geri commented to Dottie, “you can tell he has had a great deal of handling and love during his life.” “G” spent his entire racing career at BARN 55, then started his stallion career at Adena Springs in KY, and now he’s at Magali. I know GIACOMO was adored at BARN 55! MY JOHN spoke of him often with great love and respect. To this day, “G’s” photo crossing the finish line and winning the Kentucky Derby is on his stall door of his home at the barn. Everyday when I’d walk… Continue Reading

Filming at Santa Anita last weekend! Photo by John Shirreffs

Diary Post #420

Good Morning, The temperatures have been changing and the winter weather has definitely arrived in Kentucky. It is still ‘winter pleasant’, though, and TASTY and I are doing fine! Thank you for all of your continued interest in how WE are…and your LOVE! WE so appreciate it! Last evening, when Dottie and MY JOHN went to Santa Anita to check on his horses there and walk SOPHIE, the film crews were set up and filming at the RECEIVING BARN AREA. There was a great deal of activity. Actually, many different projects are often filmed at Santa Anita. The setting is spectacular! As you may know, the new TV series, LUCK, has been filming at Santa Anita now for quite some time. In California, the RECEIVING BARN is where the horses are required to go before each race. Each trainer must have his/her horses there approximately15-20 minutes before they walk over… Continue Reading

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THE 2011 ECLIPSE AWARD WINNERS! Photo by Sarah Campion

Diary Post #419

Good Morning, Last night, the 2011 Eclipse Award Winners were honored and recognized for their “Achievements in Racing” during an awards ceremony in Beverly Hills, California. Jeannine Edwards, who covers various sporting events for ESPN, hosted the ceremony. A HIGH HOOF to Jeannine on a job well done! At this time, I would personally like to extend my sincere CONGRATULATIONS to each of the winners! Numerous humans and horses performed at such a high level during the 2011 Racing Season. I’m sure it was a very difficult choice on so many levels in the various categories. At this time, I’d like to compliment each of the winners, nominees, and all others on a year of hard work, dedication, and achievement! It is now 3 years in a row that the HORSE OF THE YEAR is a female. This is a very special and marvelous accomplishment: 2009—RACHEL ALEXANDRA, 2010—ME, ZENYATTA, and… Continue Reading
