My friend, Pirate Queen….has an update for us! Photo by John Shirreffs
Good Morning, Everyone!
It was such a fabulous, yet rather quick weekend! I am constantly amazed at how fast the time is flying by now.
It seems like BABY NEWS is definitely in the air here at the farm. I just received this message and wanted to share it with you. It’s from my dear friend, Pirate Queen. As you may remember, when I first arrived at Lane’s End she was one of my original paddock mates. Then Mike and Charles moved things around a bit….and TASTY and I became such dear friends in our own paddock.
Often, so many of you ask about some of my friends here at the farm.
Well, I am very pleased to announce that PIRATE QUEEN had a grey colt…this morning at 3:50 a.m… by QUALITY ROAD. This is her first foal…and the first crop of Quality Road foals…so this adds to the excitement!
I’ve heard that from all reports everything is going well for both Mom and Baby!
I’m due to be rechecked later today to see how i’m doing and how ‘my bag’ is developing. I can tell things are progressing ‘a bit’ in a very nice, positive, and relaxed manner. Since this is the first time for ME, I can’t wait to hear what my veterinarian and the professionals here at the farm have to tell me about my Mom-to-Be news!
I’ll share it all with you in the morning.
On the racing front, the stakes activity over the weekend was fabulous. UNION RAGS put in a very impressive effort in the Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth (G2). It is so great to see his successful 2 year old form carry into his 3 year old year. The Fairgrounds finish in the Risen Star (G2) was a close one…with both El Padrino and Mark Valeski separated by a close photo. The Factor ran one fast race at Santa Anita in the San Carlos (G2)…and a HIGH HOOF to Summer Applause on her victory in the Rachel Alexandra (G3).
Overall, it was a wonderful weekend of racing!
Have a lovely Monday!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(Congratulations, PQ on your new foal!)

Wow, I think I’m the first one to post today! Congratulations to Pirate Queen on her new colt! How about “Pirate of Quality” for a name?
February 27, 2012 at 10:05 am
Love it Julie! Great idea.
February 27, 2012 at 10:56 am
I like that name!! I wasn’t coming up with anything too fantastic. lol
February 27, 2012 at 12:34 pm
Yes, I think that is a great name, Ingrid.
February 27, 2012 at 2:49 pm

February 28, 2012 at 6:23 am
How about Dread Pirate Roberts from The Princess Bride, lol

We are thrilled to hear about your progress each day. Thank you so much Zenyatta as we do love you so much and wish you the greatest blessings.
February 27, 2012 at 9:58 am
A grey colt–how exciting!! P.Q.must be so happy to have her weeone by her side!! I wonder if her “parents” will allow photos to be shared. I surely hope so!! I’ve never seen a newborn grey and would love to!!
Thanks for sharing this wonderful news and congratulations to all of Pirate Queen’s connections!!
Have a relaxing day and say HI to Tasty!! LOVE YOU!!!!!
February 27, 2012 at 1:34 pm
They aren’t born gray. They are mostly their base color (bay, chestnut, or whatever) with grayish “goggles” around their eyes and maybe some lightening elsewhere on the face. Once they shed their foal coats, the gray is evident.
February 27, 2012 at 2:13 pm
A lot of grey foals are born chestnut. The tail tail sign that they’re grey is if you see hints around the eyes and nose. I had a colt born chestnut but, he had lil grey hairs all over and as he shed his baby coat, it was evident that he would be grey.

Good Monday Morning!
It’s bright & sunny in Phoenix.
Mike Smith had a good weekend

Hey Everyone! 7 to go to reach my 5000th win!
Who is coming out to Santa Anita to see it?
Would love to be there, but can’t.
Hope to see pics of Pirate Queen foal soon.
Have a great day!!
February 27, 2012 at 10:37 am
Keta
I’m sure most of us Local Chapter of Z Dumplings will be there for # 5,000! If you come, we’d love to meet you!

February 27, 2012 at 11:02 am
Keta,
My fantasy is that Mike’s 5,000th win would come on Eby in her debut race, but I don’t think that will be happening. He’s knocking those wins down pretty fast and I think he’ll have it nailed before she’s ready. But, could you imagine all the noise and excitement if it were to be? ALL the horses would need double ear plugs.
February 27, 2012 at 11:13 am
Dear Marty:
That would really be something. Hugs, JB
February 27, 2012 at 2:51 pm
yes it would be
February 27, 2012 at 3:18 pm
Marty- wouldn’t that be fun? Great thought!
February 27, 2012 at 7:55 pm
great going !!
February 27, 2012 at 9:59 am
Dearest Zenyatta,
Congratulations to Pirate Queen and her new little boy! Please send pics of him if you can–I’m sure everyone would love to see him!
You must be getting so excited, dear Z, as we all are! Hope you get all A’s on your vet report today. I’ll be saying a prayer for You and Baby Z both!
Hope you and Tasty have a great Monday!
Love and kisses,
STel

Thanks for the update on Thisskyhasnolimit–I’ve been following this horse awhile now…..I like Scrimshaw as a name for a gray out of Pirate Queen.

4:52 pm Update by Three Chimneys Farm
UPDATE ON THISKYHASNOLIMIT: Bob Zollars told Three Chimneys this afternoon that THISKYHASNOLIMIT came out of surgery yesterday at LSU in good order. He is bearing weight on all four legs, moving around well & has a healthy appetite. As long as he continues to be a good patient, his prognosis is good. THISKYHASNOLIMIT has been a stakes/graded stakes winner each of the past four years, including a victory in this year’s Louisiana Handicap. THISKYHASNOLIMIT was pulled up in the Mineshaft H. (G3) on Saturday after suffering a fracture to his right front cannon bone. All of us at Three Chimneys are wishing him a safe recovery and will keep you abreast of any updates we hear about
February 28, 2012 at 5:47 am
Thank you Keta, for the updates on Thiskyhasnolimit. I come to Z’s diary for the news since we have the best updates here. What a relief that he is doing well, at least for now.

February 27, 2012 at 10:06 am
Dear Zenny,
What great news about your friend Pirate Queen! So glad to hear that everything went well for Mom and baby. (Now I will have to go back to the older pictures and figure out which one she was unless one of your helpful human friends can give me a quick refresher). Good to know that you are getting “checked out” today. I had to wait to hear your update before I could consider going out and leaving the computer for a while. Have a good day dear Zenny, and thanks for the beautiful friendship card – it was a thrill to find it in the mail!
Love from your Ohio friend, Sandy
To everyone who has been asking about the cards – I am SURE that they are related to a plushie purchase (NO other possible reason why I would have received one). It’s like a fairly large greeting card with some pictures of Zenny, Tasty, and Ann Moss (at least I think it’s Ann). They are being sent from Kentucky (and probably not all in the same batch – just like the plushies weren’t all sent at once) so if you bought one, I’m sure you will get the card eventually.
February 27, 2012 at 10:39 am
Sandy, PQ is the dark grey. Check out this link (Judy B. posted recently), it shows our four gals, with Zenny’s description: “From left to right, they are Sea Gull, P.Q., Alyss and ME!” (http://www.zenyatta.com/diary/diary-post-89)
February 27, 2012 at 2:05 pm
Thanks so much Vicki! I remembered the picture, but it would have taken all day to find it.
Sandy
February 27, 2012 at 3:09 pm
thx vicki
February 27, 2012 at 11:04 am
Dear Sandy:
Thanks. I did buy a Plushie for my Great Niece. She’s three and she loves it. Will watch the mail for the card. Hugs, JB
February 27, 2012 at 1:21 pm
Hi Sandy,
I bought a plushie too. The card sounds TOO CUTE! Sure hope I get one too. :)
February 27, 2012 at 10:07 am
That is great news about Pirate Queen, congrats!! And I was so happy to see Union Rags win, that was a great race. BTW – Animal Planet has a show called “Too Cute.” I think when you and Tasty have your foals they should have a show just dedicated to the two of you and your babies, it would be . . . . . TOO CUTE!!

GRANNY
Granny quit gambling on Christmas Day,
104 winters she got to play.
“Life is a game”, she used to say,
Have fun while you can,
Work hard for your pay.
Born on a ‘Pink Star’ guided so straight,
‘Ruth’ was her name, after the ‘SAINT’,
Dropped three foals, had only one mate,
“GOD” granted her, a life that was GREAT!
She guided me, my mother had run,
Played “peekaboo”, I was her son.
Nursed me back when I had spun,
The food was not bland,
“You want the last bun?”
She firmly took me under her wing,
Protected me at the end of a string.
Granny had money and plenty of bling,
Game called ‘Cloak’, it’s a police thing.
The smartest Woman I ever knew,
She worked at the Senate, a collage too,
Her knowledge was vast, her color was blue.
One hell of a Nan,
Entrusted too few.

February 27, 2012 at 10:29 am
You are so wonderful Zenyatta, sharing the news about Pirate Queen. I thought I missed the news. It was a fantastic weekend of racing. Can’t wait to hear your health report. I’m sure all is well. You have been taking good care of yourself and your baby. Anxiously waiting, one of your forever fans.
February 27, 2012 at 10:29 am
♥♥ Congratulations to Pirate and Quality – a gray colt – too cute!! Their colt could be named “Pirate Road” or “Road to PQ”. If the foal had been a girl, her name could have been “Queen of the Road”
Congrats to Apprentice Eswan Flores (So. California jockey) on his first Stakes win yesterday! He is a doll! I met him in the jockey autograph signing booth on Saturday. I said to him: “You need to stop falling off your horses!” He laughed. He was unseated in a race on Friday (something like the 3rd or 4th time since the Meet). The jock next to him said: “You fell off again!?” Eswan laughed and said yes. NOTE: As we all know, there is no humor in being unseated if the horse falls and/or is injured, or the jockey is hurt in the fall! He’s been very lucky!!!
Mikey got a win Saturday – some of us Z Dumplings were there cheering him into the Winner’s Circle. Then yesterday he got another win, so that’s 7 from 5,000 wins! We are getting close, Zenny!!
♥♥♥ ♥♥♥ ♥♥♥
March 9th……………… not far off! :-D
Kisses and hugs and tummy rubs, My Queen! XOXOXOXO
Love Always,
Judy G
February 27, 2012 at 11:08 am
Judy,
Great description of Eswan. He is only 18 & a high school senior.
Has won about 30 races already. This was (as you said) his first stakes win.
So, he is on his way!!
Read about jockey at Aqueduct who also was having a problem
staying on. Think it happened 4 times in a couple of days.
Would love to be with you on Mike’s 5000th.
Too many variables to know exactly when this will happen.
If there is a change in plans, will let you know.
Would love to meet you & Z Dumplings.
Have multiple Z hats & t-shirt–the Z equivalent of Red Hat :)
February 27, 2012 at 11:32 am
My friend Jane suggested they velcro Eswan to the saddle LOL
Well, when Mike gets real close to that number – and we see how many races in has on the card – then we can go from there :-) Hooves crossed it will be at Santa Anita!
February 27, 2012 at 2:20 pm
LOL!
February 27, 2012 at 3:18 pm
duct tape could work too. :P lol
February 27, 2012 at 10:31 am
Thanks for the news on PQ. A lot of us well remember her, Seagull, and Alyss, when the four of you hung out together every day.
February 27, 2012 at 12:48 pm
I checked and Seagull had a Candy Ride colt Jan 27th and Alys had a Rock Hard Ten filly Jan 22nd.
February 27, 2012 at 1:33 pm
Thanks, Amanda, I had heard about Seagull’s but not Alys’.
February 27, 2012 at 1:43 pm
Dear Amanda:
Thanks. I knew Seagull had her foal, but did not know about Alys. Hugs, JB
February 27, 2012 at 1:48 pm
yay for Alys and Rock Hard Ten — I loved RHT – saw him race at SA in the SA DERBY. Would love to have seen him win the Big Cap!!!
February 27, 2012 at 2:50 pm
Rock Hard Ten was a big, gorgeous boy. I took lots of photos of him when he raced at Santa Anita … maybe I should post one for my next entry on my photo blog!
February 27, 2012 at 1:50 pm
“love” RHT — not “loved” : )
February 27, 2012 at 5:14 pm
Amanda, thank you for the information. Rock Hard Ten is gorgeous. When you stand next to him and lay a hand on his side, his size and strength are amazing. He is very kind as well.
February 27, 2012 at 7:26 pm
I just posted a photo of “Rocky” on my blog http://lookofeagles.wordpress.com
No wonder he was so tall … he is sired by Kris S., who is Zenny’s broodmare sire. There is a family resemblance …
February 27, 2012 at 10:33 am
Thanks Zenny for the update on Pirate Queen and her new colt…Congrats to her and Quality Road! Can’t wait to hear how your check-up goes tomorrow. Love to you and TT.

The students were also thrilled to be given Zenyatta hats! Everyone in your “family” is so incredibly nice!!
February 27, 2012 at 10:41 am
Happy to hear that PQ and baby are fine. Lots of pacing, waiting, watching, crossing hooves, fingers and toes out here in Zenyattaland! Collectively holding out breath!

Hi, Zenny, so happy to hear about Pirate Queen. One of my favorite pictures is of you, PQ, Alys, and another mare all lying around on the grass last summer.
Can you believe it! Your Facebook page is now OVER 99,000!!! Still hoping to get to 100,000 before your wee one arrives. Whee-e-e-e! Your name is still mentioned in news stories quite a lot, and whenever you are the subject of a story, you can bet the writer gets a record number of comments! Look forward to the daily updates on your “condition”!! Not long now!! Hugs and tons of love, Ann Maree

P.S. Does anyone know anything about Vertigineux’ foal by Street Cry? Has it been born yet? Would love to know the status and whether a colt or filly.
February 27, 2012 at 1:34 pm
Dear Ann Marie:
Virtigineux is on my mind too. She had her Henry the Navigator filly on 4/2/11, so she should be due with the full sibling to Z in March sometime. I believe she’s at Ashford Stud in Kentucky. Here’s an old article and photo of her and the 2011 filly. (Scroll down a bit). Hugs, JB

Five days ago
Theresa let us here know
Her own birthday
And that of famed jockey
Kent Desormeaux
Today will be,
So,
Theresa and Kent,
Please permit us to say
We wish you both all the best:
May none of your horses run slow,
May they all win, place or show,
And may you live lives full of zest!
February 27, 2012 at 1:28 pm

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, THERESA!!! I hope your day was wonderful!!
February 27, 2012 at 7:31 pm
Wishing Kent a very happy day also. Kent does alot to help Old Friends in Kentucky and visits whenever he is in town. I loved reading in their Blog one time about him going to see The Wicked North. Kent had ridden him in most of his races. The Wicked North won eight of seventeen starts and over one million in earnings. One day when Kent stopped by they were getting ready to groom The Wicked North. Kent took the lead rope and snapped it into the halter to form reins, jumped on his back and rode him up to the barn. He said it brought back alot of memories to be riding him again. He then helped give The Wicked North a bath. At Old Friends the handsome chestnut was known for his kindness and great personality. He was a fan favorite until his death in March 2011. I know he was a favorite of mine.
February 27, 2012 at 9:29 pm
Dear Dawn:
I read that Blog about Kent riding Wicked North at Old Friends. Think it’s great when jockeys form an attachment like that to horses they have ridden. Mikey, Gary Stevens and Chris McCarron, I think, to name a few more, have that special love of horses too. Hugs, JB
February 28, 2012 at 8:12 am
The Wicked North was the victim of one of the worst DQ’s ever at Santa Anita in a big race. I would love to talk to Kent D about that one.
February 28, 2012 at 8:55 am
I should have added that I was referring to the 1994 Santa Anita Handicap.
February 28, 2012 at 6:05 am
Thanks Trina, I always enjoy your poems!

Oh my goodness! I just now realized that, although I sent Delrene the first stanza of her birthday poem back in January, I never finished that poem and never posted it here on the Diary! Delrene’s son is due back from Afghanistan mid-March, and here is the belated poem, with apologies to Delrene for its belatedness and my failure to address Delrene’s very important on-going rescue activities with German Shepherds and with cats. Prayers for Delrene’s son Steve and his homecoming…
A Belated Birthday Poem for Delrene
(for January 22, 2012)
When her parents together did team
To name Delrene,
They did seek
A name, personal, unique
And fine,
Which would the whole world tell
Of their love for their precious new belle.
Since her mom was Irene
And her father was Dell,
They their own names did combine
To show right from the start
And for all time
How their two hearts
With hers
Did sweetly intertwine.
Fast forward to the last decade
And the extraordinary Rose Parade
When the son to whom she’d given birth
Flew
The famed B-2—
The svelte Stealth bomber—
Worth nearly twice its weight in gold,
I’m told—
Over the Rose Parade crowd,
And she heard his name read aloud.
’Twas for her
One of the greatest thrills on Earth
And her heart with pride nearly burst.
That was in 2001,
But today
Her heart’s filled with worry–
Her dearest wish
Is for the work of her son
In a foreign land
To soon be done,
And that this dear family man,
Serving still in Afghanistan,
Soon be able to hurry
Safe and sound
Back to home base,
Found
In Missouri,
No more Taliban threats to face.
How she Steve’s safe return will relish!
Dearest Delrene, we with you pray
For that blessed day!
February 27, 2012 at 11:19 am
Trina,

Delrene, a belated Happy Birthday!

Trina,
Awesome! Happy Birthday, Delrene… even though a bit after the ‘actual’ day. Praying for your wonderful homecoming soon with your son! Just a few weeks to go! Love you Trina and Delrene, Elizabeth
February 27, 2012 at 7:35 pm
Trina, what a lovely poem for wonderful Delrene!! You are both marvelous ladies!!!
February 28, 2012 at 6:11 am
Happy belated birthday Delrene! It’s always such a relief when our military people return home to their families safe and sound. Sometimes I think we forget how much the families are sacrificing for us with the absence of a family member to give that service to our country. Trina, you captured it again.
February 27, 2012 at 11:04 am
Thank you for the very good news about Pirate Queen. Congrats to her and Quality Road! Every day brings you and Tasty closer to being Moms! I can’t wait! Love you both!
February 27, 2012 at 11:06 am
How exciting for Pirate Queen. Can not wait to hear about your good report tomorrow morning.
February 27, 2012 at 11:06 am
Oh, Zenny…thank you so much for the update on your pal, PQ. We have often wondered how she is doing and now we know…she has a colt!
We are so anxious for an update from you after your vet check….bet it’s this week when little Z/B arrives!
February 27, 2012 at 11:10 am
@Delrene in Carlsbad & Sue in WI, response from #444. Yes, Delrene, I do believe it has something to do with ordering Z’s Plushie, in case you missed my post, my plushie is Z and he colt, which we named ‘Ragzzo’ my young boy. Z’s for Z and Itailian for B. I am so hoping the three of us get their card today, somebody got their card today, saw the post. Glad we are not alone. Lisag
February 27, 2012 at 11:11 am
Thank you so much for the update on PQ. Very excited for her foal. Anxious for your check update as well. The Mosses have SISTER MOON who is by DIXIE UNION making her a half sister to UNION RAGS. She is looking great and hope she will race soon. UNION RAGS is my favorite for the Derby. Will look for your news tomorrow.
February 27, 2012 at 11:14 am
Dearest Zenny,
I would love to know how Tasty’s checkups are going. Are you and she about equal in the readiness department? Maybe you’ll both being foaling at the same time…! Wouldn’t that be TOO CUTE?
February 27, 2012 at 1:28 pm
Might be private information regarding TASTY; her owner’s might not want to reveal her
details publically.
February 27, 2012 at 11:16 am
Hey Zenny,
Are you as excited as we all are? Bet you can’t wait. Congrats to PQ as well. HUGS
February 27, 2012 at 11:17 am
Happy Monday Zenny, what a great way to start the week with the news about Pirate Queen. Please tell her congratulations and that we look forward to seeing a picture of her boy. The best news is that YOU are feeling good and will be having a check up today so we can look forward to more good news tomorrow. Does your doctor make a forecast on your delivery date like human’s doctors do?
Congratulations to Union Rags and YOUR MIKIE on their races this past weekend, also to YOU on your FB page numbers. I watched all the races on TV, wish I got HRTV, the channel I get is HPI which shows at least five tracks and just bounces from race to race. Sometimes I don’t even know who the horses are they switch tracks so quickly and there isn’t much commentary but it’s better than nothing.
I just checked Cigar’s paddock, he’s not out but I can see it’s a sunny day so I hope that you and Tasty are out in your paddock enjoying the sunshine. Hugs and kisses to both of you from both of us. Brenda and Vic. xoxo
February 27, 2012 at 1:26 pm
Dear Brenda S.:
How’s Vic’s toe coming along. Hugs, JB
February 27, 2012 at 3:46 pm
Dear Judy, thanks for asking, Vic’s toe is progressing well. She was able to go to the barn this afternoon to do her co-op program from school. I just hope she spent her time mucking out, grooming and doing all the other barn chores and not kissing and talking to all the horses. She needs her high school credits to make sure she keeps her place in college in September.
February 27, 2012 at 3:57 pm
what happened to her toe?
i’m happy for her. :)
February 27, 2012 at 9:23 pm
Dear Brenda S.:
So glad Vic’s better. Sounds like she really loves them; she’ll get down to business though. Love and Hugs, JB
February 28, 2012 at 12:29 am
Dear Vampressqueen:
Brenda told us in a post over the weekend that Vic had to have a toenail removed. Painful. Hugs, JB
February 27, 2012 at 4:00 pm
Hi Brenda: Glad to hear that Vic’s toe is healing up. Brave young woman! And belated Happy Birthday wishes from me to you. May your year be filled with peace, joy and much, much love, starting with mine — love & hugs, Abigail
February 27, 2012 at 11:19 am

February 27, 2012 at 11:24 am
So wonderful to hear that Pirate Queen and baby are doing good! I hope you have a great report today, as well as Tasty! I know any day now we will have our little prince or princess to fuss over. Love you always!
February 27, 2012 at 11:26 am
Ms Zenyatta, just to let you know I have an appt and will be leaving early today from work, I might be very late getting home, so I am going to say good night to YOU and Tasty now (just in case). I am getting more and more anxious about your baby coming, our niece/nephew. Since you have your marmellows, I am guessing March 17, is too far away for the little Irish lass/lad to wait. Good night, Sweetheart….rest, rest, rest, when was the last time you got your mani/ped? That is what you and Tasty should do, relax and get a mani/ped. I LOVE YOU…Lisag
February 27, 2012 at 3:59 pm
praying your appt went well.
hugs
February 28, 2012 at 10:57 am
Thank you, VQueen. It could have been a little bit better, but then maybe I ask for too much sometimes.
February 27, 2012 at 11:27 am
I’m so happy to hear the news about Pirate Queen and her new baby. May the baby go on to have a wonderful life. I’m anxious to hear this news in the morning. I know it will be good news for you and your baby. The time is fast approaching and I’m so excited for you. Much love…
February 27, 2012 at 11:31 am
Congrats to Pirate Queen and her new son! Anxiously awaiting birth announcements from you & Tasty. It’s getting awfully close!
Love You, Big Mare
Kim

CONGRATULATIONS, dear Pirate Queen on the birth of your little. I adore Quality Road, and I’m glad he’s having some dates. Hope someone posts videos.
@Keta–thanks so much for the report on Thisjyhasnolimit. Will pray that all continues to go well.
@Delrene in Carlsbad–we were at the Rose Parade in ’95 and LOVED the flyover.
We’re all getting antsy, Z., to hear that your dr. visit went perfectly. Love you always.

February 27, 2012 at 11:51 am
So happy to hear the exciting and wonderful news of Pirate Queen and her newborn Quality Road colt-fabulous! Thanks for sharing the news and keeping us updated on the others there at Lane’s End. Looking forward to hearing what they have to say in regards to your pregnancy status and sure sounds like you are getting ready for the big moment. Take care Zenyatta and get all the rest that you can and remember that I love you lots. Sending my Love & Blessings with lots of kisses!
February 27, 2012 at 11:53 am
Union Rags is my pick, too. Was very disappointed when he lost the BC juvenile, but think he didn’t have that great a trip. Love Michael Matz, too!
February 27, 2012 at 1:26 pm
Jockey also made the difference. JLP has very soft hands, which allows the horse
to place himself and be held tightly but not too tight to make him rank; also the very wide turns were probably a combo of jockey and horse; UR broke from outside and was guided in so he would not go so wide;
For many of these great talented horses the finesse for the rider makes a huge difference; like changing from Chantal to Mike Smith last week on one of The Mosses
horses; 5 races with minimal on the board; get a HF jockey and he won.
Jockey’s do a whole lot more than you think especially if you have never ridden a horse.
February 27, 2012 at 6:43 pm
The only horse to win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the Kentucky Derby since 1984 was Street Sense, son of our Z’s dad, Street Cry. Some think that there is a curse which follows any horse who wins the Juvenile.
Union Rags looked very good yesterday in the Fountain of Youth. According to his trainer, Rags has grown up since the BC Juvenile and is now a mighty 17 hands. He looked like he knew exactly how to win in that race. There may be more victories for him on the horizon.
February 27, 2012 at 9:20 pm
Dear Max:
I agree. He looked like he’s learned how to take the turns and not go wide. Maybe JL was able to help him with that as well. But, he really seemed confident and determined to win in the FOY. Hugs, JB
February 27, 2012 at 10:27 pm
OMG!!!! I learn more from you people than you can imagine! Thank you Ann and Zenyatta for this blog!
February 27, 2012 at 11:55 am
Great news about Pirate Queen. I always thought she was such a nice friend for you. Tasty seems to be very dear to you also. So excited about you and Tasty soon being Moms. Keep us posted. How about suggesting King of the Road to Pirate Queen for her little colt? Exciting news about Quality Road’s new crop. Also congrats to YOUR Bernie on all his nice foals…what a wonderful stud job he is doing! High Hoof to YOUR Mike for his racing weekend.
February 27, 2012 at 11:57 am

February 28, 2012 at 11:01 am
When is your birthday, Theresa?
February 27, 2012 at 12:16 pm
Dear Zenyatta. Hello, my sweet friend. What wonderful news about Pirate Queen. I know you shared a very special friendship. I always loved the picture of the two of you with your heads down that looked like a heart. Too cute. It is great that her foal is one of the first crop for Quality Road. When I was at Lane’s End last summer, I was lucky enough to get to spend some time with him, Zenny. We had just seen A.P. Indy and we were all heading back to the office at the end of our tour. I was a little behind everyone else and when I looked at the name plate for the stall I was walking past. Well there was Quality Road. I walked over to say hello to him and his groom was so nice, he asked if I would like him to open the stall so I could get a picture and give Quality Road a good pat. He is quite the handsome one, Zenny and very kind. I am so happy that everything is going well for PQ. We will be looking forward to hearing more about your condition my dear in your post tomorrow. It is all so fun and exciting!!! Speaking of exciting, this weekends races were great. What a performance Union Rags put in. It is very special to see Michael Matz back on the Derby trail!!!! You keep taking those naps and relaxing my love. Sweet dreams. Hugs and kisses to you and Tasty. XXXOOO
February 27, 2012 at 3:30 pm
Dawn- love your Quality Road story! I’m also glad to see Michael Matz in the thick of things!
February 27, 2012 at 3:55 pm
Dear Dawn, that visit to Lane’s End was the cat’s meow. Your personal time with Quality Road and my one on one with Langfuhr made the visit so very special. Lane’s End is as nice to the visitors as it is to the horses. Good Luck tomorrow.
February 27, 2012 at 7:39 pm
Brenda, I thought it was very special also. Meeting you and your family was wonderful. I loved watching the glow in your eyes and the smile on your face when we got to Langfuhr’s stall! I think Vic was quite in love with Curlin!!
February 27, 2012 at 4:03 pm
What a GREAT story, Dawn. I think Quality Road is a hunk as well, but will always think of him as the “boy with the bad hair.”
February 27, 2012 at 4:04 pm
nice story dawn
hugs
February 27, 2012 at 12:19 pm
My sweet friend, Shari. I am thinking about you and Miesha today. I know you will be seeing the specialist and I hope that you will be given the help you and dear Miesha need. I am sending lots of love, prayers and positive thoughts your way!!!

February 27, 2012 at 12:39 pm
Delrene in Carlsbad – Hello my dear! I read your posts from yesterday and wanted to add my prayers to everyone elses for your son Steve’s safe return. I know how difficult it was for my own mother when my brother’s were overseas and far from home during the Vietnam War. I have been to Dana Point many times when I lived in California. What a wonderful place to stand, think good thoughts and send the love in your heart out across the miles of ocean and sand. I’m sure your son feels it, even when you are not near. You will both be in my thoughts and prayers until he is safely in your arms again. We owe so much to the brave men and women in our armed forces. I wish I could thank them all personally. But as that is not possible, I would love it if you would share my deep appreciation with your son!
Love and hugs,
Dawn
Have a wonderful time with the kitties. Sounds like a fantastic way to relieve your stress for awhile. Sharing love with some furry friends, has to be a great tonic for your soul. Besides they are so soft and cuddly!
February 27, 2012 at 12:41 pm
Sorry, Delrene, I meant Point Loma! Jeez!!!
February 27, 2012 at 12:40 pm
Z what nice news I came home too. PQ had her colt this morning. I’m so glad that both are doing well.
On my home front well things aren’t so hot right now. Actually they are!–I’m home ill with a bad virus/fever. I’m so hot–thinking about moving to the Antarctic just to cool off! But the nice thing about the aches and pains is its my body fighting whatever is invading it. At least I have the comfort of knowing my body hasn’t betrayed me yet.
So I’m home on bed rest for the next several days. As Joe at tbfriends would say “The crowd stands and cheers!” I expect to be in and out the next few days so if you don’t hear from me that’s why. Have to check on baby news even if I don’t post.
Hang in there everyone. There’s absolutely no rush now. We are in the homestretch. Just a bit more patience. I know foal alert is driving everyone crazy–I certainly understand the feeling.
Just a quick note or two. Delivery will come about as a result of hormonal changes. I think its progesterone that triggers the whole chain of events. All normal. PQ just went through that.
With labor and all don’t fear some of the inevitable. Z is in the best hands possible. You have to have faith in the system. Team Z would not leave her there if there was any doubt in their minds. The vets have the experience needed to do whatever is necessary to help her as does her own handlers.
I know its scary for the “newbies”. That’s okay. We all get scared. Just have faith, confidence, and some patience.
With that I’ll see folks later this week–if not before. Back to bed…
February 27, 2012 at 1:23 pm
Dear Margret:
Hope you feel better soon. Hus, JB
February 27, 2012 at 1:50 pm

Get better soon Margaret…..and thanks for your “calming” affect.
February 27, 2012 at 2:52 pm
Margaret, I hope you feel better soon and get all the rest you can and don’t forget fluids! Maybe some bouillon?
February 27, 2012 at 3:16 pm
Thanks for your calming words Margaret. Rest up and do nothing but take care of you.
Be well soon. God Bless.
February 27, 2012 at 3:33 pm
Margaret- hope you feel better soon! Thanks for more baby info!
February 27, 2012 at 3:35 pm
Margaret, Bedrest, fluids, and chicken soup always does the trick.. Feel better soon.
February 27, 2012 at 3:59 pm
Margaret, I’m a big believer in a hot toddy, drink it in bed and then snuggle down. Hope you feel better soon.
February 27, 2012 at 4:09 pm

February 27, 2012 at 12:48 pm
Congrats to PQ & QR! A gray colt – very special. Zenny, I am thinking of you & Tasty constantly and so looking forward to any news of the births. I can’t wait to see all of you in the pasture together! Can’t wait! Hey, I thought of a name for Tasty & Candy Ride’s foal – Divinity! Might work better for a filly. What do ya think? Union Rags was very impressive. Should be an exciting Derby this year! Much Love to You & Tasty, Queen Z. Have a beautiful day! xxxooo Anita
February 27, 2012 at 5:52 pm
Divinity! Cute name and I too think it fits a filly more than a colt.
February 27, 2012 at 8:39 pm
Thanks Joanna. Glad you like it. It just came to me :-)
February 27, 2012 at 12:48 pm
Congrats Pirate Queen and Quality Road- !!! And super Congrats to Union Rags whom seems like a Winner! I think Baby Z will be here soon! Hooves Crossed:)

Zenny, oh my gosh, did not know what to expect in todays post……..this is like chinese water torture, just drip, drip, drips of information and then we have to wait all night till the next drip! I’m finding my stomach in a knot while waiting for your post to come up, just filled with so many butterflies. Guess I’m a real nut case!

How exciting! Congratulations to Pirate Queen and Quality Road — love both of them. Perhaps since you know both parents, you will be asked to be godmother to their newborn colt.
We will be anxiously awaiting news of your status. It is getting very exciting.

February 27, 2012 at 1:51 pm
Alys and Sea Gull foaled within days of each other at the end of January. I’d guess that PQ got off schedule somehow. Or maybe she was just late, and/or the other girls were early.
February 27, 2012 at 1:53 pm
Carol, above, Amanda posted that “Alys had a Rock Hard Ten filly Jan 22nd.”
February 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm
Saw someone said Alyss had fiily on 22nd….missed that somehow …congrats to her
February 27, 2012 at 1:02 pm
Congratulations Pirate Queen and Quality Road for your new baby, when you both were running I saw you many times, I miss you, please can you take a photo of the baby, I would like to see him.
I cannot wait to see Zenyatta’s baby, love you Ingrid.
February 27, 2012 at 1:06 pm
At first I thought you were going to tell us that your time was coming soon, and I was like O.O, but when I saw it was Pirate Queen, I was still very happy. Will you have pictures soon, for us to see the little guy? I am glad you are doing well, and that you are progressing smoothly. I am very terribley excited, and I am sure the pacing commity is wearing a groove into their floor. ;-) Think Pink!! Can’t wait!! :-)
February 27, 2012 at 1:15 pm
Congratulations to Pirate Queen! Glad to hear all is going well with you and always anxious to hear about your “Mom-to-be” news. We pray that all will continue to be well with you and with Tasty too.
February 27, 2012 at 1:20 pm
Dear Zenny,
Love the photo of PQ in her paddock before the big day TODAY. Boy QUALITY ROAD
is a very fast guy. Wishing her colt the best and a very talented future. I know she did not race much, but many successful broodmare’s have not been “work horses” on the track. And we know the sire is a very talented guy. Can’t wait to hear about your check and the size of your bag; perhaps another couple of weeks and you’ll be a MOM along with TASTY of course. Hope you had a relaxing day in the beautiful KY weather.
Love all the great 3 year old races; boy Union Rags was some very talented colt in his
debute in the FOY. Very excited to see your sire (Street Cry’s) colt Consortium who also has a little AP Indy as well.
XXXXXOOOOO
February 27, 2012 at 1:55 pm
Dear Sign, Consortium doesn’t have any Street Cry hes’ out of our Bernie(APIndy)and Marietta who’s out of Machiavellian. Hugs
February 27, 2012 at 1:21 pm
OOOPS !!!!
That is you and Tasty I think in the photo, right ?????
Thought the grey for a minute was PQ.
February 27, 2012 at 1:25 pm
@MARGARET–please get well soon–I don’t think we can ask Zenny to “hold it” while you’re down for the count!–lol! Seriously, we’ll pray for you not to miss anything.
February 27, 2012 at 1:30 pm
Love the poem a lot, Gary Moulton !!!
February 27, 2012 at 1:31 pm
Dear Delrene,
Wishing you a very special B-day;
and your son the safest of returns
to his homeland; and a big thank you
to him for being one of AMERICA’s HEROS !!!
February 27, 2012 at 1:38 pm
Congratulations to Pirate Queen on her precious little Quality Road son! How exciting! Thank you for sharing the good news with us. Yes! All the races this weekend were wonderful and I have to admit that I am growing quite fond of Union Rags. Of course, no one will ever be able to reach your status in my heart, Zenyatta, you are so very special to me, but I do think Union Rags is a very beautiful and quite talented young colt. I enjoyed the Risen Star with Mark Valeski and El Padrino battling it out to the wire – whew! That was close. I will be anxiously awaiting the good news from your checkup later this afternoon. Thank you!!!
February 27, 2012 at 1:53 pm
Congrats to Pirate Queen and her foal! Hope you and your foal are doing well, I can’t wait to see baby z!
February 27, 2012 at 1:58 pm
congrats to new mare moms Rachel, Pirate Queen, Sea Gull, Alys and all the other I didn’t name — PLUS to all the mare moms to be, especially Z and Tasty, the biggest of warm wishes for health and safety.
February 27, 2012 at 2:07 pm
Oops, made a mistake on Consortium’s pedigree;
Sire is Bernardini and dam sire is Machivallian
Street Cry’s sire.
February 27, 2012 at 2:08 pm
Congrats to PQ!! I’m glad she and her foal are doing well. That is great news! Thanks for the update Zenny! I can’t wait for your little one to get here.
Love to all,
Leslie
February 27, 2012 at 2:14 pm
Keep up the wonderful baby progress, dear Zenny!
February 27, 2012 at 2:15 pm
Zenyatta,
Congrads to your friend Pirate Queen on her colt, it seems alot of your friends are going to be moms this spring. Can’t wait to hear what your vet has to say about our Queen. Is your bag bigger than a marshmallow now? I know you will be just fine. Now you and TT get plenty of rest before the BIG day. Peppermint kisses on your soft noses. XOXO
February 27, 2012 at 2:20 pm
First I would like to say Congrats to Pirate Queen!!!! Secondly I want to tell you Thank you so much for the special cards from Zenyatta! When I receive them in the mail, I WAS THRILLED! It was such an honor to get them and it brought tears to my eyes! I do love Zenyatta so much and adore her. I also have her photo in my hallway with Mike’s original signature. Whoever thought of me, you made my year, thank you from the bottom of my heart.!! oxoxoxoxox
I can’t wait until Zenny’s foal is born! Love you!
February 27, 2012 at 2:34 pm
Hi Z family,
Just a quick question, does anyone go on the ntra.com site? I have been officially scared away..
I used to, for the information, and handicapping expertise, but lately, it is filled with filth, and derogatory comments! Some of their comments literally made me feel sick! :o
I find that this site is MUCH safer, and I feel more comfortable coming here to learn than the NTRA site. Thank goodness for Zenyatta fans. There is a reason we are the greatest fans in the world. :-)
February 27, 2012 at 3:03 pm
Pati… I know what you’re talking about. I and a special friendship group used to post on NTRA all the time but, in the last several months, not so much. It’s always the same people causing the problems. Over the last year or so, many emails had been sent to Alex Waldrop of NTRA and the only thing that gets done, is some of the comments get deleted but, other than that, nothing else happens. Now if you really want to be shocked, read the News article on Drill!! You’ll see what I mean. Filthy, nasty, disgusting! BTW… my moniker is DinkyDiva. :)
February 27, 2012 at 5:04 pm
I READ YOUR COMMENTS!!! I am FastForwardInSlowMotion!!
You get them Mrs./Ms. Heidi!!!! I read your post that you put up after Mary Z. and Carmine got into their beef…..are they always like that? I am afraid to post because I am scared of getting sworn at, or getting viciously attacked by the Z detractors…I had a nasty email sent to me because I was defending Zenyatta, and RA, and someone didn’t like that…so I stopped posting after a while… :*(
I will read, but I am almost afraid too…LOL
February 27, 2012 at 6:00 pm
I commented on the Bob blog. :D
February 27, 2012 at 7:07 pm
Pati, I saw someone by the name of “Patay-tay,” that had posted to me and I thought, maybe that was you. I don’t ever recall you’re moniker over there and I’ve been posting there for almost 3 years. I don’t want to bring the crap over to this lovely site so, if you want, I can fill you in over there. You just have to remind me who you are.. Some sort of hint. Maybe, marshmellow should be the “word?”
February 27, 2012 at 7:52 pm
Pati,
Umm, just thought about something. Are you on FB? Just look up my name and friend me if you are so that I can explain things. If not, here’s my email. hkruckenberg@yahoo.com… make sure that you mention who you are so that I don’t delete the message! :)
February 28, 2012 at 1:09 pm
Yes ma’am, I will.
February 28, 2012 at 1:30 pm
Best wishes for a safe delivery and healthy foal for Zenyatta. I predicted she would have a girl, but a boy will be so very welcomed. A new prince or princess.
Wars over w/ Carmine. He can be as disgusting as he likes. However, my conversations with another will continue. Some follow them like it’s their soap opera.
I know what you mean about the attacks. I can’t imagine having committed a crime bad enough for me to have been called what I was. Oh well. Have a nice day. Would like to discuss horse racing with you sometime. You too, Heidi. About the grey horses that were brown, there’s a photo of Creative Cause when his coat was changing as a baby, or what about Lucky Chappy. What color is he?
February 28, 2012 at 2:24 pm
I understand how you feel, but we are all safe here. :)
February 28, 2012 at 2:26 pm
Oh, it might be a harmless mutation…I have seen brown foals go chestnut, white, light light gray..i.e Hansen colored. Just some funky things going on… :D
February 28, 2012 at 3:12 pm
This is a lovely site. Great info for the fans.
February 27, 2012 at 2:37 pm
Great for Pirate Queen.I am so happy for her!I can’t wait to see your foal.Have a great Day Z!
February 27, 2012 at 2:41 pm
Congrats to pq hope to see pictures how is life is sweet is her yearling still at the farm love ya zenny your baby will be here soon
February 27, 2012 at 2:42 pm
Congratulations to Pirate Queen on her new foal. So glad that all is well with them. How are you and Tasty doing. Good to know that the vet is visiting and can’t wait for the news tomorrow. Looks like rain here Z but I seriously doubt it will occur. Is your family going to come for the birth of your foal or will they come right after he/she is born? It is a quiet day here-dogs prefer to sleep on the bed since it is a bit colder-LOL Have a good day Z! Hugs to you and Tasty!
February 27, 2012 at 2:43 pm
Congrats to Pirate Queen! Can’t wait for your baby to get here!
February 27, 2012 at 2:45 pm
Hi Big Girl, Glad to get the update from you today. Congrats to Pirate Queen and her colt. I’m glad they didn’t breed you to Quality Road…here’s why. If I recall correctly he had trouble at the starting gate at the BC 09 race and one of the vets actually called him a juvinile delinquent …or a rather immature horse. Then, fast forward to the BC 10 race. Again, if I recall correctly he started to run out of gas, slowed down right in front of you causing you to lose some precious time before you tore down that backstretch. I think Bernie was a great match for you…
I hope Pirate Queen’s colt is healthy and has a good career. She seems like a nice horse and must be if she was paired with you.
February 27, 2012 at 3:23 pm
Tony, QR is a miler at best. He is a lovely boy and hopefully, he can have some good runners. Just not classic distance horses. Then again, many do outrun their pedigree. The crop of 2012 will be a must watch for, 2014/2015 will be exciting to watch!
February 27, 2012 at 9:29 pm
Good post, Tony.
February 27, 2012 at 2:45 pm
This is all so exciting, Z! Congrats to Pirate Queen! Stay healthy, Zenyatta. Love you!
February 27, 2012 at 2:49 pm
Hello Zenny!
Thanks for all the good news.
Take care of yourself.
Love and Hugs, Marilu
February 27, 2012 at 2:52 pm
Happy Monday Zenny and Tasty. A big congrats to Pirate Queen for her new baby boy. Zenny YOU would be so proud of YOUR MIKIE and how he is riding lately. I too would think it would be amazing to have his 5000th win on Ebby but I don’t think she will be ready and YOUR MIKIE is winning left and right these days. Can’t wait to hear tomorrow about your check up today with the vet. It won’t be long I’m sure and am so happy everything has gone so smoothly. I love you to the moom and back sweet girl. See you tomorrow :)
February 27, 2012 at 3:06 pm
Congrats to Pirate Queen! Hopefully we’ll get to see pictures! Now our real countdown begins with you! Can’t wait! Speaking of countdowns, your Mikey is getting really close to his 5,0000 win! We are really going to try to be there when he hits it! We were there Saturday to cheer him on!
Have a wonderful day and can’t wait to hear the news from you check up today! xoxo
February 27, 2012 at 9:20 pm
@ Jane – Mike has become “family” to you, James, and, of course, Madison :-) It’s wonderful to watch the interaction between Mikey and Maddie – TOO CUTE!! High Fives for all…… lol
February 27, 2012 at 9:31 pm
I hope you’re there, Jane, James, and little Madison! It would be very meaningful to MIKIE!
February 27, 2012 at 3:18 pm
Hi Zenny, thanks for the news on PQ, your pal. I loved hearing about her when she was your pasture pal before. I think we all became quite fond of her! Congrats to her and QR, and thank goodness for a safe delivery for both baby and mom. I guess it’s safe to say we’re all basket cases here waiting on YOUR time to come. So many nervous aunties and uncles, including me! Praying for a safe delivery for you and a healthy baby.
Delrene – belated birthday greetings and a safe hero’s return for your son. I’ll tell you a little story some time about that 2001 fly over in Pasadena (my home town). I still tell people about that day – and now I can’t believe that amazing pilot’s mom is right here in Zenny Land. God bless your son for keeping us safe and free. I’ll email the story to you in a separate email.
Nighty-night Zenny and Tasty. I hope you girls will rest well knowing you’re in the best hands and that you are loved by so many people. Love you both.
February 27, 2012 at 9:32 pm
Margie, I got the year wrong, my mistake–it was 2009!
February 27, 2012 at 3:20 pm
First, congrats to PQ and her grey colt by QR. I would love to see some pics and possibly a video? That’s if her owners will allow it. Same with you’re other “original” paddock pals!
Yes, this weekend was wonderful for the races! Boy o boy, did Union Rags re-appear! He sure has filled out and has gotten taller! 17 Hands now! Big Boy! Oh, and he ran straight this time! I surely hope that Algorithms will be ok and back on the work tab when the time is right. This weekend will prove to be exciting as well. With Hansen coming back. I hope he learned something from the Holy Bull. Isn’t Alpha racing this weekend too?
So, you’re having a check-up today, how exciting! No more, marshmellows? LOL…
Not long now, and I feel (like others) that it will be this week! The first thing I do after getting my cup of java is come straight here! Read the Diary, do some trolling and then, come back to read every single post before I post.
Zenny, you just relax and let the Aunt’s and Uncle’s do the pacing for you. Waiting on pins and needles! Love ya and tell Tasty hi too and that I hope everything goes smoothly for her as well!!! Can’t wait to see the new Dumpling!
February 27, 2012 at 3:23 pm
How exciting! The “event” is almost here! Stay safe and stay happy. Love you much1
February 27, 2012 at 3:41 pm
Zenny- congrats to your friend PQ! I’ll bet your Ann is beside herself! I’m so glad to hear that you and Tasty are just doing your thing in a nice, calm atmosphere with knowledgeable people watching out for you. You are much loved, Z- I am sure you can feel it! Looking forward to vet’s report tomorrow!! Love you, pretty girl <3
February 27, 2012 at 3:45 pm
Re: Chester: Great news! The vet rechecked Chester’s corneal ulcer today and said it is 90% healed- ahead of schedule, as it has only been one week and it was quite large. He feels so much better and I am SO relieved- it looked so terrible a week ago! Chester has certainly done his part- he is such a good patient.
February 27, 2012 at 4:48 pm
great news
February 27, 2012 at 6:43 pm
Happy news…
February 27, 2012 at 4:54 pm
Glad Chester is better
February 27, 2012 at 4:56 pm
Yippee!! Made my day.
February 27, 2012 at 7:51 pm
Susan, my wonderful friend, I am so glad that little Chester is so much better. Give the sweetie a hug from me!! You have been in my thoughts and prayers also. I do so hope you are feeling much better after being ill!!!!
Love and hugs,
Dawn
February 27, 2012 at 9:10 pm
Dear Susan in TN:
That’s wonderful news. So happy for you and Chester. Love and Hugs, JB
February 27, 2012 at 9:56 pm
High hoof to Chester and to you!
February 28, 2012 at 6:26 am
Thanks Susan, that is a wonderful piece of news!
February 28, 2012 at 8:22 am
Chester is the man.
February 27, 2012 at 3:45 pm
Can’t believe your due date is coming up already! I’m still hoping you’ll hang on until St Patrick’s day, which is my own sweet mare’s birthday, but probably your little bundle of joy will be impatient to “get out of the gate” so to speak.
Congrats to your friend Pirate Queen on a successful delivery of a potential champion. It’s going to be interesting to watch all these 2012 foals grow up and start to race each other in two or three years.
And we know it will be YOUR foal whose nose hits the finish line first!
February 27, 2012 at 5:58 pm
Cute post, luvscritters!
February 27, 2012 at 3:50 pm
Dear Zenyatta I am so happy for Pirate Queen. God Bless her and the new foal. I hope you and Tasty enjoyed the sunshine today. It was beautiful out. Miesha, Larry and I saw the Specialist. Dr. Jeromin was so nice to Miesha and very informative. Miesha’s feet are one of the worst cases of SLO she has seen. Miesha was a real trooper. She has new meds and is now on special food. No more chicken treats or chews. I guess my Miesha has been in such pain but never made a sound.Dr J said she is one tough dog. This treatment is going to take time to see results. Larry and I thanked God for this good Dr. We will now just take it one day at a time with her. Miesha was also a good traveler in the car. I want to thank my Z Family for caring. You make my world a better place. Zenyatta Hugs and Kissed, Shari XXXOOO
@ Dawn thank you sweet friend. It will take time for my girl to come back around.
@ Susan in Tn please let Beth know what Dr. said. I hope Chester is mending too : )
February 27, 2012 at 4:10 pm
Shari, We are pulling for Miesha and hoping that the new meds and diet do the trick. Does Miesha have to see Dr. J again?
February 27, 2012 at 4:18 pm
Prayers for Miesha–I’m glad there is a new medicine and a new diet to try. Is Dr. J far away?
February 27, 2012 at 4:40 pm
Shari – positive thoughts from southern California for Miesha’s speedy recovery.
February 28, 2012 at 8:24 am
Another Californian says ditto!
February 27, 2012 at 4:50 pm
what’s SLO shari?
February 27, 2012 at 5:13 pm
See? Tough cookie…. All the best and continued prayers.
February 27, 2012 at 6:38 pm
Shari, Sounds like positive news on Miesha. xoxo Keep us posted.
February 27, 2012 at 7:22 pm
Shari,
It is good to have answers & a plan for healing.
Went through months of misdiagnosed “season allergies” with Emma, my Cavalier.
Finally took her a dermatologist who with great lab work discovered
Emma had the doggie of equivalent of MRSA.
The lab identified what specific meds would kill it.
They worked–Emma’s coat is magnificient now, she feels good.
Will probably be on meds rest of her life
We share a birthday–she will be 9 this year.
Although we (vet & I) don’t know positively, Emma may have picked this up from
a human. She had worked as a therapy dog.
May Miesha have a full & complete recovery!!
February 27, 2012 at 10:01 pm
When’s the birthday?
February 27, 2012 at 7:54 pm
Dearest, Shari. What fantastic news!!! I know it will take time, but now at least you have some answers and some steps you can take to help your beautiful Miesha recover. You are both in my prayers sweet girl!!! Say hello to Larry, I know this must have been difficult for him also!
Love and hugs,
Dawn
February 27, 2012 at 8:20 pm
Shari, that’s wonderful news about Miesha, at least you know now what it is and have a treatment protocol for it. I guess patience is the key here as I read on the internet it takes months for the nails to grow out. Prayers get answered! Hugs
February 27, 2012 at 9:09 pm
Dear Shari Voltz:
Hoping the new meds and diet do the trick for Miesha and she feels better. She’s a brave girl. Hugs, JB
February 27, 2012 at 9:49 pm
Shari,
Glad that Miesha has new meds and a special diet. We must be patient, I guess, since it seems that it will take some time to get over this hurdle. I do hope she will be more comfortable, however. All the best wishes to you, Larry, and Miesha!
February 27, 2012 at 4:01 pm
Hello all – Too many people to thank for all the belated birthday wishes! but yes, THANKS!!! and a big hug and thanks to Trina – A truly amazing writing talent you have. Lovely, tears flowed. But just to let you know because I would never want to mislead anyone especially you Trina , he flew over RParade Jan. 1, 2009. Most likely you couldn’t read my writing!!!! It was a moment in time I will never forget. Just like the races I saw you run, Ms. Zenyatta.
Dear Z’sters…. I was lucky enough to meet Trina in person at the Equestfest held in Dec. of 2011 at Los Angeles Equestrian Center. It was my pleasure. We had a nice visit, short but very nice. Hopefully if no rain this Sat., I’d like to get up to SA and enjoy the company of Z-Dumplings and the beautiful horses.
Congratulations to Pirate’s Queen with her bouncing baby boy…. The suggested names have been so clever. Love them.
and thanks to those who gave advice about the card received from you, Zenyatta. Since I did buy a plushie, I will look forward to it coming in the mail. fingers crossed…
What a thrill. I love that Rock Hard 10′s foal was born on my birthday. I love that horse. I hope we will find a picture of Alyss and her baby and PQ and hers too.
It is pouring down rain with high winds here in Carlsbad, Ca today. My dog doesn’t care and is bugging me for an adventure outside. Just can’t today. Really nasty out.
The group I volunteer with is called Rescue House and they are in various Petco’s around San Diego County. I volunteer at the Petco Encinitas. Not looking to advertise, just a little background. They are all sweet kitties/cats looking for forever homes. SPAY & NEUTER IS THE WORD!!!! I have definitely reached my quota at home (5) + my shepherd, Tessa. Thanks for your loving thoughts, prayers and hugs. I am unable to express in words how grateful I am. Please know that I am. And yes, I feel this website is such a safe, comfy haven. Like coming into a dear friends warm and cozy kitchen.
I will see what you are referring to on NTRA. I hate it when people are so mean-spirited.
This a.m. I listened to Lisa G. Fly’s song and as always that song makes me feel good and ready to face anything that might come my way on a dreary Monday morning.
We look forward to hearing about your daily progress Zenyatta. Wouldn’t it be neat if on the very day you delivered, Mikey got his 5000. win? Yikes. The racing world will explode with happiness and joy.
Thanks ALL, for helping make my day a lot more positive. I will let you all know when I know.
February 27, 2012 at 4:14 pm
OOPS–my face is red! Of course it was 2009–I think I got carried away with thinking of rhymes and since I definitely had “son,” my mind leapt to “2001″–I’ll try to correct it! You’re so sweet to “cover” for me suggesting that I had a hard time reading your writing when the info came to me in an e-mail! LOL! Thanks, Delrene, and continued prayers for Steve’s safety–I second the comment by Vampressqueen Sue Colvin that he is a HERO!
February 27, 2012 at 6:32 pm
@Delrene, that must have been just so wonderful to see your son fly over the Rose P:arade. When I was at our Moody Branch I just love seeing the F-l6 fighting falcons. Even though I saw them almost every day, I was always just blowed away by them and the guys that flew them. Your son flew the B-2 right, the stealth Bomber was at moody too we heard, but I missed that. I know you are so proud of him. I know I asked one of the pilots I was talking to one day, how did he feel about going to Iraq, this was back during the gulf war. He told me he wanted to be there right now. Just great guys. Please Thank Your Son, for us.
Happy Birthday, also
Trina Beautiful poem. You are so talented.
February 27, 2012 at 8:07 pm
Delrene… Such a unique name. If you post at NTRA please let me know in someway that it’s you. As I told Pati, I’m DinkyDiva. The one and only! However, I do have to thank NTRA for one thing!! Through the blogs there over the last few years, a group of us Zenster’s have formed a lovely friendship and we stay in contact through a Private chat site, phone, text fb. We are planning to be at BC this year for our first face to face meeting! See, Zen, it doesn’t matter, you bring people together and in doing so, friendships are created!
February 27, 2012 at 4:08 pm
Oops. Maybe I misunderstood. Perhaps Alys had her foal by RHT on 2-22; not 1-22.
February 27, 2012 at 4:09 pm
Thanks for the update., Zen. Very thoughtful.
February 27, 2012 at 4:13 pm
Thanks for keeping us updated on Queen Z. Say hi to My John for us.
Thanks again!!!
February 27, 2012 at 4:15 pm
Wow, Zenny. This is wonderful news about Pirate Queen and so glad to know that mom and munchkin are doing fine. And I’m really looking forward to hearing what your vet and staff had to say about you, in tomorrow’s diary !!!!
PS: I suspect that the cards our Zenny is sending out is what Zen-Dottie meant in a previous post when she said that she was going to spend the days leading up to baby’s arrival doing “loving things.” What a GREAT way to pass the time until our little prince/princess arrives, Zenny & Team Z!
PPS: I’m getting a little jumpy, big girl. I checked your site so many times this morning that I gave my wrist cramps!!!!
Would you like me to mail out a few cards on your behalf? Or muck out your stall? Or count the carrots you’ve been pictured munching since 2008? Or…..?!!!?******!!!!
Love you, sweetie. Love & hugs to Dottie, Tasty and my Zenster family, both near and far
February 27, 2012 at 4:25 pm
This is too cute! LOL!
February 27, 2012 at 4:20 pm
Help….I cant find Alyss name on lanes end foal list…I must be looking in the wrong place…is there somewhere else to check?…a different site maybe
February 27, 2012 at 6:09 pm
Carol, I’m wondering the same thing…don’t know where else to look. Good luck and please post if you find out. Thanks.

Hi Abigail – I looked at Life is Sweet with her colt, but I noticed all the posts/comments
are 2011. Has she had a colt this year? Or are the dates incorrect. I would imagine 2011 was her first year to have a foal. I love Life is Sweet. She is the star of one of my favorite all time videos. John coaxing her to “get up now, pretty girl and let’s go to work” She was laying down. Soooooooo cute. Just wonderfuing (foal watch #6)
February 28, 2012 at 7:05 am
Delrene: You’re right of course. This is definitely foal #1. Lane’s End photos on FB are kind of a goulash of old & new, I guess. And in my rattled state, I failed to notice! PS: That video of John waking up Life Is Sweet is a favourite of mine too!

Her little colt is really sturdy looking – he’ll be one to watch! She is a solicitous mom. A natural.
@Zenny and Tasty: I’m wearing a hole in my virtual floor – pacing, pacing, pacing. Can’t wait to see baby videos of your little ones!

Diana-I am curious as to where this interview took place. There appears to be a stuffed grey horse right behind the trainer.

Very nice strong looking colt.

@Shari Voltz– thanks for the upate on Miesha. It’s great to have a specialist. Sounds like he has a game plan. Many of us are puzzled about the disease. What’s it’s name? We don’t recognize the initials. (At least I don’t).
Hugs.

Zen,
We must have ESP, have been wondering about Pirate Queen for awhile so glad to read the happy news about her. You have probably posted who Tasty is bred to, but it escapes me. Have been wondering??? You two are just too cute!:))
February 27, 2012 at 5:48 pm
Tasty is in foal to Candy RIde.
February 27, 2012 at 5:27 pm
@ Vicki B.–Thanks so much for posting the link to that remarkable photo of “the Girls”all lying down in their pasture! I LOVE that pic and couldn’t remember where it was! I need to learn how to “bookmark” and save “avorites” and all.
There is another photo of the four of them walking down the lane that I was going to order and then lost track of it again–does anyone remember how to pull that one up?? It was really cute and I would still like to order that–it is such a peaceful shot.
Sweet dreams all!!! Maybe we’ll be aunties tomorrow!!
February 27, 2012 at 10:07 pm
Dear Sue Noel:
I couldn’t find a photo of Z and the other mares walking down a lane at Lane’s End, but I did find this one of them snacking together. Hugs, JB

Best Wishes to Pirate Queen and her new foal. I love the name. P’s andQ’s that someone suggested. That is a great name!
Also, Zenyatta, I cannot wait to hear the vet report about your status. It is getting so close. I am so excited to hear the news and see a picture of you and your foal.
Dottie, you are so wonderful to do this for all of us fans. Thank you.
Zenyatta, try to get lots of rest now, because you will be very busy soon, being a mom!!!
February 27, 2012 at 5:52 pm
Hi Zenyatta. What a beautiful picture of you and Tasty in the Paddock. Congratulations to Pirate Queen and Quality Road on the birth of their beautiful grey colt. It was a great weekend of racing. So sorry about Thiskyhasnolimit who broken down at Fair Grounds. Does anyone know how he is doing? We are going to Aqueduct this weekend to see Hansen run – yea!!!! Can’t wait to see their new casino, about 11 years in the making. Whoa! Cannot wait to hear about how your “bag” is progressing tomorrow morning. Waiting for the big announcement and video. Love you big girl. You and Tasty stay comfy, eat well for two and enjoy these joyous moments.
February 27, 2012 at 8:27 pm
Eveline and Diana, loved both of your videos. Pepper’s Pride was a fantastic racehorse who’s accomplishment deserves the utmost respect. It was so touching to see her trainer tearing up as he talked about her. I hope I get to finally meet her in person this year. I was at Richland Hill Farm (the first farm she was at after retirement) just before she came in. Then last year I was to see her at Taylor Made, but her foal was under the weather, so had to pass. I’m looking forward to it.
February 27, 2012 at 8:41 pm
They did the surgery on Thiskyhasnolimit, and as far as I know, he’s doing ok.
February 27, 2012 at 8:43 pm
Yvonne. On bloodhorse, there’s an article about Thiskyhasnolimit and he went through surgery and is resting. Being a good patient. Hope for the best results for him!
February 27, 2012 at 6:19 pm
Dear Zenny/Dottie, what great news about Pirate Queen!!! Thank you for telling us. Your time is gettng so close too Zenny! I cannot wait to see your foal. He or she will be well loved by all of us. I am sure you are being diligently watched by everyone at Lanes End.
February 27, 2012 at 6:43 pm
Zenny,
You always do like to surprise everyone… coming from ’round to the outside …. at the last minute … almost! So happy for You and Baby Z doing so well!
Congratulations to Pirate Queen and her new young one! And to Quality Road!
What a blessed time of year with new birth… new beginnings!
Love You, ZENNY and Baby Z!
God’s many, many blessings to you both and to everyone here in Your Family!
February 27, 2012 at 6:45 pm
Zenny, please tell Tasty ‘hooves crossed’ and give her my love too!
February 27, 2012 at 6:47 pm

February 27, 2012 at 6:54 pm
Zenyatta, Thank you for all your diary updates. I guess when you have your baby, you will have to ask Dottie to keep up the diary for you. You, being a busy mommy and all. LOL
Kidding aside, Dottie, thank you so much for keeping all the Zenyatta fans informed. What would we do without you!
Lots of Love, Hugs, and Prayers for a safe delivery and healthy mom and foal

Dear Diary Friends,
“Our Kari” would have been over-joyed at the news that Pirate Queen dropped a grey colt. She had a very special fondness for the greys. Thank you, Dottie, for starting (and ending) our day with a smile.
As many have commented since Kari’s passing, she was all about JOY. She had accepted the hard blows which life had dealt her in the past with amazing grace and without rancor; accepted life in the present with serenity and without self-pity; and was willing to accept life in the future with great faith and hope. The the thing I am missing most on the DIary now, is the shining strength of her words. I would be honored to provide some “Kari quotes” from time-to-time, and welcome you to do the same. Words live forever, and are endowed with the spirit of the writer. In re-posting Kari’s words, I feel as if we will be keeping a part of her alive.
In what can only be described as a “Zen-magic moment,” Kari’s beautiful daughter re-discovered these words written by Kari on John Shirreffs’ Youtube site on February 27, 2010. His video featured Zenyatta working in preparation for the 15th start of her career, in the Santa Margarita Invitational Handicap.
♥ Mr. Shirreffs, You and Zenyatta have brought us nothing but pure joy. It is because of your tireless schooling wisdom and tenderness that she is such a happy horse. For Zenyatta fans she will ALWAYS be our Queen and you will ALWAYS be the man who so patiently taught her to rule. The magic the two of you have created has brought endless smiles, endless joy to us all and will for decades to come. Only a truly great man would thank the ones who are so grateful to him.
AnimalsRock4Love
In response to Kari’s comment, John Shirreffs posted the following (note the wry humor), which brought her tremendous JOY:
♥ I want to thank everyone for being there for Zenyatta

Dear Cynthia H
Thanks so much for sharing Kari’s words; we are all missing her joyous
giving nature. It is so good to have a reminder. Hope you had a great time
at SA Saturday, if you were working.
February 28, 2012 at 7:33 am
Dear Sign,
Iti s a special joy to share Kari’s words. And I had a great day on Saturday, cheering Mike Smith’s two wins! ♥
February 27, 2012 at 8:48 pm
My dear friend, Cynthia. What a special post. How we miss “Our Kari”. It is a wonderful idea to continue to share her words with each other. I agree, words live forever. Their humor can make us smile and spark laughter. Their power to describe can bring memories back to life and allow us to visualize that which we may never have actually seen. Their beauty can enrich the mind, stir the soul, touch the heart and cause the spirit to soar. Words can evoke every feeling we as humans are capable of. They are our windows to the world and everything in it past and present. Kari’s words to her Hero are lovely and reading them connects us to her. That my sweet Cynthia is very beautiful!
Love and hugs,
Dawn

February 27, 2012 at 7:18 pm
Congratulations to Pirate Queen and Quality Road!! <3
I am looking forward to hearing what the vet's report is about you and you're foal, Zenny. I am hoping and praying that everything will go smoothly in the very important days that follow.
The racing action from around the country was FANTASTIC! I was disappointed that Bernie's son Algorithms was scratched from the Fountain of Youth, but Union Rags had a absolutely brilliant performance in that race! Lets hope that the rest of the Triple Crown preps are as good as they have been so far! Good luck to all of the nearly 400 Triple Crown nominees!!!
You're foal will be here soon, Zenyatta <3 Talk with Pirate Queen and get some tips from her ;) You will be a great mother <3
Love, Katie(future jockey)

So very glad to hear about Pirate Queen and her new little one! Hoping everyone at Lanes End is getting enough sleep–it’s a busy season! And you, my dear, are relaxed, safe and happy. We know you’re in good hands…upcoming days will be like in the movies for us–pacing about in the delivery waiting room! Love and prayers for you and all the expectant mothers!

@Cynthia H.–that’s a lovely idea. Thanks for sharing. We will welcome the quotes. I refer to Kari often as things come to mind.
Well, I may be in the dark, and there may be more going on behind the scenes, but I’m going to buck the tide and say the baby won’t come this week. I’m still thinking full moon. Now watch Z. prove me wrong! Good night, sweet girls (Z & T). Love you both.

Hi Big Mamma………..HRTV is running a replay of the 2000 Breeder’s Cup (it is midnight here on the East Coast) and I just saw your Daddy run in the Juvenile! What a handsome boy he was! He must be SO proud of you and his soon to be grandson/granddaughter!
Now, on a serious note…….time is getting SO close now and we are ALL so anxiously awaiting news on you every day. I hope that your little one isn’t giving you tooooo much trouble moving around and getting ready to enter the world (I heard just before “entry” they can get very restless!). THE BIRTH is going to be one of the most celebrated events in racing history and we pray every day that it’s a “slam, dunk, plop” and uneventful for YOU in every way.
Take good care and, as always, thank you Dottie for allowing us to go on this journey with our beloved Queen.
(To JAG – I am now hooked on the entire March 9th/full moon thing………….LOL!)
Love you Z!

LOL I’m glad you’re on the Full Moon 8th / March 9th wagon!! I have so many Z friends I meet at the track tell me that THEY will now be disappointed if she doesn’t foal on either of those days :-D TO CUTE! Safe, uncomplicated delivery is the priority, though!!! ♥

Zenyatta hope you had a very good check-up with your vet today. I will be waiting anziously for the report tomorrow. Zenny the full moon is on the 8th. I just believe it will be around that date. On Tuesday morning, NPR is slated to have a special report on foaling in the bluegrass on its Morning Edition segment, featuring a broodmare “midwife.”
February 28, 2012 at 5:26 am
Looking forward to an update this morning Zenny. It’s coming down to the wire — sweet anticipation!
@Abigail — thanks for the links to the new foals.

Hi Zenny: Thanks for letting us know about PQ. Congratulations to PQ on the birth of your first foal. A beautiful little gray colt. I love gray horses. They are so beautiful.
February 28, 2012 at 6:02 am
Good morning Z–I’m glad to see so many getting on the “full moon” bandwagon. That way, if we’re wrong, it will be a lot of us.
@Judy Berube–I don’t think I’ve seen a place for donations to combat the slaughter plant in Missouri. What I’ve been asked to do so far is contact the Mountain Grove, MO Chamber of Commerce (I’ll have to Google the link) and call or e-mail Senator Blount. His number is 202-224-5721, and the e-mail is blunt.senate.gov.
The link to the story (hope this works) is

Dear Barb W.:
It wasn’t the Missouri slaughter house opening that I was asking about. It’s the e-mail that was sent about the abandoned horses in Montana that have no food. I was wondering if anyone had a mailing address to send contributions to buy some food for these poor, innocent horses. Hugs, JB

Has anyone heard any news on Eblouissante? How her training is going and when her first race might be?

Beautiful Zenyatta (and Dottie), thank you for your update on you and Pirate Queen. I love the name game (all suggestions of names from your Z-sters, Dumplings, and fans). Thank you Keta, for the updates on Thiskyhasnolimit. I come to Z’s diary for the news since we have the best updates here. What a relief that he is doing well, at least for now. The best summary on the weekend wins is also right here in Z nation. The pictures are wonderful, especially those from Your John. So, that’s some of the very special bonuses for loving you and scanning your diary. OK, back to pacing. This is me, hopeful for your safe delivery for you and your foal, the gift you are giving to all of us to treasure.

Thank you Z for your update on Pirate Queen, also to everyone for the info on Thiskyhasnolimits. I’m praying he can be saved. This is truly a wonderul board for anyone who loves horses and horseracing, there is so much information here, it’s a learning experience almost every day.
Take care of yourself Z, can’t wait for your big day!

Zenyatta, I love hearing all of the baby news from Lane’s End Farm. Congratulations to Pirate Queen for the birth of her foal by Quality Road. I’m very happy to hear that mother and foal are doing great. I was happy about the racing I saw this past weekend. Your Mike should get his 3000th win or so with no problem at all. He’s practically a shoe in to do that.

I see you’ve forgiven QR for STOPPING right in front of you in the 2010 BC championship race!
Love you always, Z.

Hi beautiful lady, glad to know that you are being watched over so well. I knew they would! That was great news about Pirates Queen having her baby and all went well. I am sure you will be fine too! I sure wish I could be employed at Lanes End right now! Really I would work there anytime. However, if I could just assist in anyway with the foaling of your baby that would give my heart a thrill! I sure miss not having any babies around again this year. :(
Ok, enough day dreaming, LOL! I will be watching for any news updates often now. Big hugs Zenny!
