Diary Post #456

He's resting! Isn't he TOO CUTE! Photo by Matt Martinez

Happy Monday to All!

It has truly been a very eventful few days. My foal and I are adjusting beautifully to our life together. He is quite smart, inquisitive, and charming ….if I say so myself. (Blush, Blush) I’m hearing others making these same statements about him…so I guess you could say I am in complete agreement with them!

Weather permitting, we spend time outdoors in the paddock together….and then we return to the barn for our evening’s rest. I am pleased to report that he is doing everything perfectly…just as a MOM would hope for a foal who is only a few days old.

I must say, I am having the most fabulous time being a MOM and just watching him…sleep, eat, play, and snuggle up to ME. It is an absolute JOY….and I could not be happier.

Just as with human babies, there is paperwork to be completed upon the birth of a foal. All of the proper information must be submitted to the Jockey Club for his JOCKEY CLUB PAPERS to be issued. These papers are a thoroughbred’s version of a human’s BIRTH CERTIFICATE.

Martha at Lane’s End is preparing his LIVE FOAL report this morning. Later after this information is processed, blood work will be provided and this will be used to properly verify he is definitely MY FOAL SIRED BY BERNARDINI. I.D. photos will be taken and submitted to the Horse Identification Department noting every single aspect of his body…color, white star, any other white hairs, or markings. All of these details are noted in a very explicit format. Such steps are completed with each foal that is born. ALL thoroughbreds are specifically identified and parentage qualified with the goal of keeping the integrity of our sport always operating at the highest levels.

You may remember my HORSE IDENTIFICATION PHOTO. I found it again for you. I was just a few months old at the time it was taken. Who ever thought it would be so much FUN to look at several years later.

Hmmmm! What do you think? Does he take after ME?

When all of these requirements are completed and verified, the Jockey Club will formally issue his CERTIFICATE OF FOAL REGISTRATION. This will follow my adorable little guy, just as a birth certificate does a human, throughout his life…when he races, travels, or whatever else he may do!

I also want to tell you that I checked in on TASTY this morning. She is ‘happily in foal’…and from all indications it appears she still has a few days to wait before she gives birth! I’m wishing her all the best! While he’s napping, I think I’ll send her a few ‘foaling pointers’….now that I’m such a PRO and have a bit of experience in this area!

Please enjoy your week!

With Love,
Hugs to All~ (I’m still in AWE of this entire MOM experience!)
Z….and her BABY! (How cute is that to say!)

This is SO SWEET!!

I just got the memo and the date is all set! SANTA ANITA is having LOS ANGELES’ LARGEST BABY SHOWER FOR ME and MY BABY this Saturday. How special is this!

The life-size painting of ME, THE QUEEN’S DANCE, which we unveiled during My Breeders’ Cup Party last year at Churchill Downs, is going to be on display. Jaime Corum, the artist who created the piece, and some members of my TEAM, will also be there to visit with fans.

The beautiful part of this is that MY SHOWER will honor some of the charities I have worked with during my career! My BABY and I are so fortunate, thus, it is truly my privilege to assist others who may need some help whenever I can!

I’m beginning to realize the ‘teaching part’ of being a MOM starts the minute the baby is born! Thank you for helping ME to illustrate to him the ‘gift of giving to others…comes in so many ways’.

  1. Oh Zenny he is just the most beautiful wonderful little baby in the world!! And YOU little lady are so kind and loving you do everything so perfectly! When I look at you both I see such a COMPLETE CIRCLE and you foaling on the full moon – HOW ROMANTIC can that be? Stay warm and comfy – give that little boy a smootch! LOVE YOU

  2. I would again like to thank the Mosses, Dottie, John and everyone on Team Zenyatta for being so gracious in sharing her. It seems like every so often, when we need it, God sends a horse that is special and uplifting – Man O’War during WW I, Seabiscuit during the depression, Secretariat during the Vietnam War and Watergate and now Zenyatta during these trying economic times and 2 wars. Of those horses, Zenyatta is special and what makes her and all of you so special is the love. God placed her into the hands of people who would love, care and nurture her. And she, in return, gives that love back and then some unconditionally. I didn’t get to meet her, but what I’ve seen, it wasn’t because someone had a carrot or apple or some other munchie – it was just because they were there. What a gift! Jerry Moss had it right in the video – that is what draws such devoted fans. Seeing her lets me know there is good in the universe.

  3. So happy for you Momma Z, her little Z boy catching some z’s in the sun shine, and the whole Team Zenyatta. Great job Land’s End! And we all agree, his got the ears!

  5. He’s just a little darling! We are so happy for you, Zennie! I hope he grows up to be as splendid a race horse as you!

I do not know if I did this or not….LOL, really. Trying to get Van Morrison’s Moondance, this video is beautiful, not all the videos are this beautiful…but the song always is.

    1. Totally agree. Thanks for posting! Looked up ‘Moondancer’ on Jockey Club Registry. There is already one in 2008.

  7. Zenny: Your baby is just like you. He loves his naps! The last few pictures of him–he has been sleeping. This proves he is a growing boy. Can’t wait to see videos of him.

Is Tasty in the paddock with the two of you or is she in another paddock for the time being? Has she seen your little one? I am sure she has. Tasty must have been wondering what was going on with you the night you delivered your baby. I wonder what she thought with all those people in the barn.

Glad to hear you and baby are doing well. The idea of your baby shower sounds vey exciting. Sure do wish I could be there.

Take care Zenny. Can’t wait to see more pictures of the two of you. All of us want to see “Zenny’s –Mom’s brag book of photos.”

Hope I did this one right, Dancin In the Moonlight.

Not good at this and JB’s is gone for the night, I really wish she would come over.

    1. Dear Lisag:

Thank you for the links on Dancing in the Moonlight and Moondance. Good job. Hugs, JB

      1. @JB, Thank you, Blush-Blush, but I had a good teacher…the thanks is to you. Hugs back at Ya..Lisag

  9. Zenyatta, Thank you for sharing this most special time in your life. He is perfect!

  10. Z’s SomethingRoyal is getting his ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZs!

Keep us posted on Tasty. She was a quite a race mare in her own right.

  11. Ah, the video is something else. Zenny’s baby is so precious.

  12. Dearest Big Z.–it makes me smile every time I think of your video with “our” Jerry and Ann and your little one. I do hope we get more before he grows up so fast!
Thinking of Tasty tonight and wishing her the very best. Love you all always.

    1. I so enjoy Jeff Siegel; he has so much experience with horses, racing and knowing who
is very special on and off the track.

    2. He gets it! We get it! Sadly, some people never will!!!
      Judy G

    3. Tim, thank you. I have copied this quote to go under my signature on my e mail, and added credit to Jeff.

  14. Sooo cute Zenny good luck with your little boy

  15. Dear Z,
Your little one is so very precious. What great weather….perfect for time together in the paddock. Yesterday I heard the sweetest name, Jazzy, and I thought of you.

  16. I’m enjoying the name suggestions. My husband and I have been coming up with a couple of facetious names (containing “Warren’s”, etc.) How about Mondatta? You know, Zenyatta Mondatta? I like it. Or, how about the follow-up albums, “Ghost In The Machine” or “Synchronicity”?

    1. “Mondatta” is taken. The Mosses own her. I don’t think she ever made it to the races. “Synchronicity” is also taken. “Zenchronicity” might or might not pass. It’s available, but the JC might deem it too close in sound to “Synchronicity.” Ghostinthemachine is a possibility. It would have to be run together; it is too long with the spaces.

  17. Good evening Zee & Wee(one)

thanks to all who liked the poem. I actually started it last fall, and the time caught up with me, it is an honor to write for such a beautiful event. And the way Zee’s taken to the Wee one, and the way he is responding to her, that’s when life is beautiful. It’s happiness. I wished I had fewer interruptions, making it difficult keeping the balance in the writing.
Anyway, again congratulations to all involved.
And to Zee & Wee, sleep tight and dream sweet
What long legs he has, I bet he’s going to be a racer.

  18. @Sunny Boyd–I love the names Wee and Zee. I hope you don’t mind if we start using those names.
Something just occurred to me. So many were bemoaning the fact that Zee was being taken to a broodmare farm to produce babies and we would never see her again. They were all wrong. Clearly she loves her NEW career. I trust the Mosses implicitly to handle her in her future, never considering ANYTHING but what is best for her. Who would have thought she could have gone from best racehorse to best mom so effortlessly and seamlessly? I hope Rachel is feeling fine and enjoying her new baby. I’m so sorry she didn’t experience the same love and devotion from her own mom as a foal.

    1. @Barbara Wood, I think it is shame for Rachel to, she did not have a good childhood, but she is fine now. Her story breaks my heart.

  19. Awww, Z, such a sweet picture. We knew you’d be a great Mom. Thanks for the update on Tasty. She hasn’t been mentioned much since your baby was born, but that is understandable. I know you look out for Tasty too. After all, she is your best friend. ;)

  20. Huge congratulations to Zenny and all of Team Z!
    What a beautiful baby!
I tried to log on to this site on Thursday evening, and knew something was up when after 30 minutes of trying I just could not get through… So I finally went over to Bloodhorse, and there was the video of the new little guy. I watched it over and over, with tears of joy in my eyes.
Big hugs and kisses on the nose to all involved!

    Much Love,

  21. Dear Mama Zen , I’m So Very HAPPY for YOU (: What a BEAUTIFUL Baby Boy You Have . I Can’t STOP LOOKING AT HIM . Thank You for Letting Us Into Your Life . Its Going To Be GREAT WATCHING HIM GROW UP !!

  22. Here is the Inside Information in its entirety; Story of AP Indy, Lanes End and the Farrish Family. For those of you who have not seen it, it is a wonderful chronology of Lanes
End from Civil War days to present times.

    1. Dear Sign:

For some reason I wasn’t able to access the link. I’m going to try going to the Paulick Report web page and see if I can get it there. Hugs, JB

      1. Judy, I couldn’t pull it up either, kept asking me to join HRTV! You are always so good at this hope you can get it. Hugs

  23. @ Barbara Woods

    go ahead.
I know what you mean, I wasn’t at all crazy about her having to go to the breeding shed, etc. I sooner she found her sweetie somewhere, picked him up at the race track, haha. Just kidding
She is such a proud horse, at the end in the video, where they are in the paddock with the wind blowing her mane and she’s facing the camera, gorgeous. And his fuzzy ears, it just makes you smile.
They’re a couple of swells, to borrow from a Judy Garland song.

    1. Dear Sunny:
      Too Cute. Hugs, JB

  24. Queen Zen,
I have two names for your little man. The first one is Full Moon Zen, because he was born on a full moon and also the star on his head looks more like a full moon. The other name would be 1010 Zen.

  25. Hello Zenny and Dottie!

Thank you for explaining what is required in getting the birth certificate of your precious baby. It’s hard to believe you are really a Mom now. Our prayers were answered – you had an easy and normal delivery.

Thank you for the update on Tasty. Hope she has an easy delivery too.

    Love N Hugs, Marilu

  26. Zenyatta, you look so great getting your I D at a few months old. I believe that your baby boy will look much like you. That star on his forhead is really something. This is such an exciting event and I can imagine your happiness. Will keep up with all the posts and see what you are up to. Sending my love as always and kiss to for you and your colt. Glad to know Tasty is doing well.

  27. The only thing to be said….Aaaaaaaawwwwwww!!!!! TOO CUTE!!!
This picture says it all, The Doting Mother.
Love you Zenny and Zenbaby. Thanks Dottie and all of Team Z.
    Lotsa of love to all

  28. I love your BABY<3 !!:) he is so cute i must know the name….. ?? Or have you even named him yet ?…<3:)

  29. A million Congratulations are coming your way from not only the US but from all over the WORLD. Also many of us have not forgotten Bernardini we have been watching his pages on Face Book and have sent our Congratulations his way also.
I join in with the millions saying how wonderful you are and also thank the Mosses, John and Dottie and all the wonderful folks who look after you and now your colt too.

Queen Z – I have read the quote on EvieInc website and agree with all my heart and soul.
It says and I quote “I have always seen God in horses. Zenyatta could be the crown of His creation in the last bit. I think she makes Him smile. Which is why I think she makes us smile”.
You always make me smile and your website (Thank you Dottie) always reminds me that there are some good humans who really do care about ALL our animals.

Your a great Mom and I am sure that Tasty will take ALL of your advice. After all your a role Model in the Mommy department.
I LOVE YOU Yenyatta with all my Heart and Soul.
