2016 Zenyatta Celebration: Fans Meet Zenyatta

Celebration winners visit Zenyatta.

Celebration winners visit Zenyatta.

Happy February!

Last fall we held our fourth annual Zenyatta Celebration, raising $20,000 for Thoroughbred Rehab Center Inc. Five participants were chosen in a random drawing to win the grand prize, An Invitation to Meet Zenyatta. Each winner was invited to travel with a guest to Lane’s End Farm to meet Zenyatta and receive a tour of the farm. These photos document their visits. Photography by Alys Emson.

View the complete set of photos from these visits in our 2016 Zenyatta Celebration Photo Gallery.

Some of you have noticed that we’ve been posting less frequently, but our winter break is no cause for concern. Zenyatta is happy and healthy, and we got to see her at Lane’s End in late January. We’ll be posting images from our visit soon.

  3. Smith Out to Conquer the ‘World’ With Arrogate
By Joe Bianca TDN Thursday, March 2, 2017
In May of 2005, Mike Smith piloted a gray colt by one of his beloved former mounts to a 50-1 upset in the GI Kentucky Derby. Giacomo (Holy Bull) represented the jockey’s first career win in the Run for the Roses, and it should have been the springboard to new heights of success for the New Mexico native. Instead, the Derby score was an outlier during the toughest period for Smith’s business since he left Canterbury Downs to ride on racing’s biggest stages in 1989.

    1. Dear BGG:

God Bless Mikey and Arrogate. Godspeed. Love and Hugs, JB

We could watch videos of her all day BOGSIDE THEATRE filly by CAMELOT
    is such a special girl! @rpbloodstock @coolmorestud @peternolanblds

    1. Thanks for sharing this, BGG. Oh What Fun and how sweet it is! She is a pure delight to watch — this is the definitive example of “cavorting”. Love that Mama enjoys a short roll, too. Obviously, they are enjoying the good life. Sheer happiness — may it ever be like this for them.

      Hugs and Love

    2. Dear BGG and Marshall:

I can see why the Elwick Stud Team can watch her all day. I’m still smiling after seeing this frisky, joyful baby enjoying life. Mama seems totally unphased by all the “cavorting”, as Marshall said. Love and Hugs, JB

      Dear Marshall:

Too bad there is already a mare named Cavorting (one of Bernie’s daughters who retired to Stonestreet last year). Would be a great name for this little one. Love and Hugs, JB

      1. Dear Judy B.,

You are so right about the name “Cavorting”! Maybe “Bogside Cavorting” or “Cavorting to Camelot”? Joyful is exactly what she is though.

        Hugs and Love

  11. March 3 Cherokee Devotional

A great man once said that a human soul may be thought of as seeking a creative outlet. If that outlet is clear and free, all is well. But if the channel is clogged with fuss and worry, we can forget the creativity. Even in quiet, we can be in a frenzy. Quiet desperation, Thoreau called it. True silence comes from directing thought to quiet places and still waters. If we allow our minds to drift toward something that could go wrong, then it steals our peace and clogs our creative capacity. Sit quietly and think of softly flowing water, gentle breezes, and the call of the whippoorwill. Reflect on the joy of thinking freely, of unlimited vitality-and don’t tell yourself that it couldn’t possibly happen.

The American Indian is skillfully artistic, a refined sense that springs from deep wells of ancient vision.

    1. Dear Kathy. It turned so mild overnight and I woke with a headache. My PC was so slow warming up I know I have another one but I like this one.I was about to give up when Zoe’s lovely face showed up.Your devotional was just what I needed .Quiet desperation for me today! It’s another damp dreary day here I do hope all goes well for Hovis today with his MRI scan.Poor Karen may end up bankrupt and Herman the German will be living in a mansion. At least CNSM is recovering I do hope the tumour doesn’t turn out to be malignant but he has caught it early.
Lots ob science with Milo today and President Fibbs is busy with internashunal bizness.Had to laugh at the cheese photos last night.Felix has a new member on her team Mr Dan has arrived there. She went missing once and they were frantic with worry until they got a call from Domino’s pizza. She loved Billy the team leader and missed him dreadfully when he died. She used to sit on top of his car to try and stop him leaving the station!Andrew came into her life then and starting posting the videos he has left now but still visits .regularly.It was good to see Sole Power retired safe and sound He will stay with Eddie for a few months to unwind then move to County Wicklow Always remember him winning his 1st Nunthorpe at 100-1
Sadly 49 horses have been dumped in various places so far this year mostly in England. Can humans get anymore cruel? The answer to that is yes but there are the good guys as well Alaa is busy rebuilding his shelter and although most of the cats disappeared Honey has turned up safe and sound. It’s only now I have started watching NCIS and am hooked.I love Abigail.Hope you have a great Friday.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXOXOXO

      1. Dear Sheena,

Oh, I’m sorry you have a headache. Hopefully there’s something you can take for it that will do the trick. Computer woes are the worst. I always say the computers of the world have us all by our throats! lol Isn’t Zoe’s dress GORGEOUS? Looks like an Oscars dress to me! Yes, the words “quiet desperation” really spoke to me, too. Saying many prayers for Hovis. His poor human parents…you know the treatment is very expensive! Herman can probably start planning a new wing! Prayers and best wishes for CNSM. The cheese photos from the ratties was really cute. Steve liked it, too! Mr. Dan is lucky to be joining Felix’s team! Happy retirement to Sole Power. That’s awful to hear of the 49 horses. Cruel humans, indeed! Sad the depths some sink to. Thank God for the good guys! That’s good that Honey has returned to Alaa. Oh, Steve watches NCIS, too. I wish you a very good Friday. I’m off today, will be working tomorrow. Pilates this morning, then lunch with my aunt and cousin. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXOXOXO

      2. Dear Sheena,

I understand completely about being hooked on NCIS! I have been watching it for years now and still love it. I watch the new shows and continue to watch any and all reruns over and over whenever they are aired on cable channels. Abby is such a wonderful character. Glad you are enjoying it, too!

        Hugs and Love

  12. Dear Judy,

So glad to hear Archie is doing well. I’ve been wondering about him every day. Please keep us posted on his progress, love, Christine

    1. My Dear Christine:

Me too; I was really worried. Thank you for keeping him in your prayers. Will do.

Stay warm; we’re headed into Winter again tomorrow! Love and Hugs, JB

  13. Godspeed tomorrow beautiful Irish War Cry! Safe trips to all the horses and jockeys. All those races this weekend should cast some light on the Derby contenders.

  16. Arrogate’s next race is a no-brainer
By Art Wilson, Correspondent Los Angeles Daily News 03/02/17
There were two very different sets of emotions earlier this week at Santa Anita after Arrogate turned in his most recent workout on a brisk morning just past 9 o’clock.

  17. A circle complete
by Carleigh fedorka March 3, 2017
I was once told that I was anti-racing.
That because I was a part of the second career movement, I obviously didn’t respect the first. That because I believed in not pushing for one more race that I didn’t cheer for the twenty before it.
And that it, just simply, wrong.

    1. Dear BGG,

WOW! I am totally blown away by this beautifully written article! This is such a happy completion of the circle. “Eddie”, by the way, is drop-dead gorgeous!

Thanks for sharing this wonderful story. Continued success and happiness to Eddie and all connections.

      Hugs and Love

    2. Dear BGG:

Oh, what a great article. So the way it should be. Really admire this lady and Eddy’s former owners.

What an absolutely lovely “Malibu Moon” Eddy is. Love and Hugs, JB
