    1. Dear Sheena,

Mega Thanks for posting the latest installment of Hovis’ Diary! I am constantly amazed by the wonderful humor which is woven through and through each narrative. Hovis always leaves us smiling and even more in love with him each time. So glad to hear the vet thinks he is slowly and steadily improving. Healing prayers for our Manly Man!
Much love to Hovis, Karen, mini-mum, boss lady and all who care for him.

      Hugs and Love

      1. Thank you Marshall.I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving day and the pups enjoyed some turkey!Love and hugs

        1. Thank you Sheena! Yes indeed, I had a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends, and Bailey and Smudge enjoyed some turkey added to their kibble. They loved it — they had some this evening, too. They are very happy puppy-dogs!

          Have a lovely weekend!
          Hugs and Love

      2. Agree, Marshall. Thank you, Sheena.
Power up Hovis. Good report and good progress!

  3. Sad news about Winx’s half-brother El Divino has been euthanised following an injury during a workout this morning.RIP Brave boy.Fatalities do not only occur on the racecourse.

    1. Dear Sheena:

Brings to mind Mentor Cane, trained by JS, who suffered the same fate. So very sad. RIP Beauties. Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB, LM and all the Sweeties

  6. Two chestnuts on skype

    Gun: Hello.
Biscuits: Hello, Gun. How are you doing?
Gun: Pretty good. What’s up with you?
Biscuits: Just finishing up my deliveries for Black Friday. Gearing up for Cyber Monday. Also getting ready for the Cigar.
Gun: I’m tired listening to that agenda. Take it easy. No burnouts before race day.
Biscuits: I’m looking after myself, especially my cashmere, but I do love a good deal. What’s that you looking at?
Gun: The list of winners who are going to see Zenyatta.
Biscuits: Saw it. And I noticed that we’re not on it.
Gun: Man, I’m disappointed. What does a drop dead handsome BC Classic winner have to do to get to visit with The Queen?
Biscuits: Have you tried calling your dad at Lane’s End? He could put in a good word.
    Gun: Not that easy.
Biscuits: You’ve got the old father-son issues thing going on?
Gun: No, my dad was born in Argentina. He speaks Spanish, which makes for short conversations.
Biscuits: I forgot that you give instructions to your jockey in French. How about calling Ziconic again? Try Coz?
Gun: Not returning my calls or text messages. Discouraging.
Biscuits: You will think of something. Does a chestnut ever give up?
    Gun: Neigh x 10!

    1. Chestnuts give up?Never! This conversation made me chuckle.

    2. Dear Max;

Love the spirit of Chestnuts. Never give up! Love and Hugs, JB

      1. Dear Max, Sheena and Judy,

Gotta love those “never say never” chestnuts! Such indomitable courage and determination; don’t forget the enterprising spirit, also.

Thanks for the chuckles and giggles, Max! You can always count on these chestnuts to lift your spirits — what a wonderful gift in our uncertain times.

Hugs and cheers for the Chestnut Club!

        1. Dear Marshall:

          Love and Hugs, JB

      2. I am a member of the chestnut club too. My about to become 2 yr. old chestnut colt, Big Red Valentine (born on Valentine’s Day 2016) is the foal of 2 Bay parents, Suances and my broodmare, Addison’s Honor. This year same 2 parents had a bay filly who looks just like her gorgeous Mom. Baby was born March 11th, hence her name, Piru Pi. She was born at Rancho Temescal in the tiny town of Piru. So I have Big RED & the Pi!!
Big Red has lots of Red family including, u guessed it, Secretariat.
The 2 names were accepted by the Jockey club. So they are official.

        1. Congrats. Glad to hear this news.

        2. Dear Marilyn:

How wonderful to hear about your fabulous Red Head and Beautiful Bay. Godspeed and Blessed lives to both of them and you. Love and Hugs, JB

    3. Thanks, Max. HAHAHA!
Gun, yes, you are drop dead handsome.
Very thankful for a this delightful entertainment.

    4. There’s a lot of that “never giving up” going around! Can’t wait til next year’s drawing :-)

    5. Max,
Thanks for keeping us up to date on our Chestnut boys. I read on Bloodhorse.com that Biscuit was training well and seemed to love the cooler weather. Hoping for not too much weight for the race.

      1. Hooves crossed for Biscuits. He’s heading over to Aqueduct this week.

  7. Dear Judy.Julie is up in Haydock for the Betfair tomorrow.Only 6 running but a quality field.Everyone going crazy in the sales and there was an incident at Oxford Circus.Turned out to be nothing this time.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

  8. When was it announced that Zenyatta is in foal to Into Mischief? I can’t believe I missed it lol. Thanks

    1. Dear Kris:

It was announced about six weeks after Z was bred in June. Love and Hugs, JB

      https://www.paulickreport.com/news/bloodstock/zenyatta-confirmed-foal-mischief-2018/

      1. Thank you, Judy, for the link. I’m a bit surprised at the choice, actually. The article didn’t say anything about their reason for choosing Into Mischief.

  9. Congratulations to all the winners. And to Judy , wow! Great to have someone I actually know win. So very excited and happy for you. What a great Christmas present.

We will want to hear all about it.

  13. RIP El Padrino who has been euthanized at the New Bolton Centre after bouts of colic and subsequent injuries,He was an 8yr old son of Pulpit.
Getting nervous ahead of the Betfair and reminded of Kauto Star’s fabulous victories in this race especially in 2011.Can the old boy Cue Card emulate Kauto?Stay safe all.Min is back with a bang at Gowran Park.

    1. Was very sad to see that he is gone. Loved his big white blaze. He has stamped his looks on some of his offspring.
RIP pain free now El Padrino.

    2. RIP El Padrino. Love and Hugs, JB

  14. Bristol de Mai wins the Betfair by a HUGE margin. He demolished the field Cue Card hung on grimly to be 2nd.Congratulations to Nigel TD(Moose’s dad) and all connections.

  15. Ryan is having a fantastic day in Tokyo 5 winners from 5 mounts and Idaho felt at home during his racecourse gallop it was pouring.Bristol de Mai won by 57 lengths!!!

  16. Bullet Train the 10yr old brother of the mighty Frankel is to continue his stud career at the Woodfield stud farm in County Waterford.Kind’s first born by Sadlers wells started off his stud career in the US and shuttled to Australia.A first class horse in his own right he became more well known as a pacemaker for his younger brother.Great to see you back in Europe.

    1. Oh nuts! I was hoping he would have been better received here, but I hope he does well at his new home.
It was difficult standing in the shadow of his younger brother Frankel.

    2. Dear Sheena:

Congrats to BdM on his impressive Betfair win. Must have been an exciting day for Julie.

Congrats to Ryan; wow 5 for 5.

Love Bullet Train. Hope he has a long, happy life in his new home. Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB, LM and all the Sweeties

    3. This is great news for Euro breeders. They get the 3/4 family genes at a much reduced price. Good also for Bullet Train to be closer to home.

      1. He is going to be a dual purpose stallion.Should get some nice mares.

        1. Good. He was not getting the top US mares because their owners want proven dirt horses. Now he’s a contender. Hope all goes well. BT is a nice horse.

    4. Best of luck and long happy life to Bullet Train!

RIP El Padrino, no more colic or pain, dear boy.

      Hugs and Love

        1. Can’t even……
Karma needs to catch up sooner rather than later.
          RIP precious ones.

    2. Seriously praying for the Mare, dam of Rodders (Impossible Dream) who died in that fire). Such evil cannot be tolerated!! Poor Mare. So sad for her family. May God save her and bless her if she is able to live with some degree of comfort. That eye looks horrible.I am so seriously horrified by this cruelty.

  24. Gun Runner is likely to be US horse of the year.
A main contender for Canadian horse of the year is a Woodbine fan favorite, Pink Lloyd. With a name like that, he’s a chestnut, and a grandson of the lightning fast, Forestry. Best news is that he will stay in training. Took him a while but he’s now on a roll.

    https://www.paulickreport.com/news/thoroughbred-racing/pink-lloyd-caps-perfect-season-eighth-straight-stakes-win-kennedy-road/

    1. Dear Max:

Cheers for Pink Lloyd and Scandal !!

    1. Dear Marshall:

Thanks for this link on Scandal and Mikey. Couldn’t help thinking of COZ. Fifteen tries by this beautiful 5 year old girl and Mikey was aboard for the last four of them. She and Mikey got it done. Love our Mike. She’s a beautiful Gray. Peggy will be happy to know her Dam is a daughter of Quiet American.

Here they are winning on Thanksgiving Day.

      Love and Hugs, JB

      1. Thanks for posting the race, JB. Wow. Well worth the watch. What a big beautiful girl. She shot out of the gate and said….MINE!

      2. Dear Judy,

Thanks for posting the race. Scandal certainly is a beauty — I thought of Peggy, too, when I read that Quiet American was dam sire. She sure dug in at the last to keep her nose out there!

Yes, her win was a long time coming — hopes for Coz and Zi.

        Hugs and Love

    2. Thanks, Max. Go Gun. Go Pink Lloyd!
Thanks, Marshall. How about that. Good for her!
