Announcing The 2012 Breeders’ Cup Zenyatta Celebration

Second annual Zenyatta Celebration to welcome fans at the 2012 Breeders’ Cup World Championships.

Special Zenyatta seating section also available during Championships

Tickets on sale at Zenyatta Shop

ARCADIA, Calif. (Aug. 1, 2012) – Breeders’ Cup Ltd., along with Zenyatta owners Jerry and Ann Moss, announced today plans for the second annual Breeders’ Cup Zenyatta After-Party Celebration, to be held Championship Friday, Nov. 2, at Santa Anita Park’s Frontrunner restaurant. This year’s official event will be an exclusive evening full of Zenyatta fun following Friday’s race card and will benefit several equine and racing-related charities, including the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund and The Communication Alliance to Network Thoroughbred Ex-Racehorses (CANTER).

The Zenyatta After-Party Celebration will be from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m., providing racegoers a relaxing environment to toast the day’s winners, celebrate the past and present of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, while enjoying a twilight, panoramic view of the historic racecourse from Frontrunner. Amenities include a California buffet and cash bar featuring cocktails, race replays from Friday’s Breeders’ Cup program, entertainment, and a chance to meet Zenyatta’s connections and other racing celebrities.

Scheduled appearance and autograph signing at the event will be with trainer John Shirreffs, Dottie Shirreffs, racing manager for the Moss Racing Stable and the voice of the Zenyatta Diary, and jockey Mike Smith. Smith will bring along some of his fellow jockeys and other racing celebrities to mingle with partygoers. The After-Party Celebration will also feature the auction of Zenyatta memorabilia, artwork and an all-expense-paid trip to see Zenyatta and her growing colt at Lane’s End Farm in Versailles, Ky.

After-Party Celebration tickets are $50 for admission only, or $95 for admission combined with the buffet. Tickets are available for sale today on a first-come basis at the Zenyatta Shop.

As an added benefit for “The Queen’s” most loyal fans, Premier Grandstand seating in the designated Zenyatta Section during the Breeders’ Cup World Championships is now available online at http://www.breederscup.com/tickets/grandstand-reserved or by calling 877-TIX4CUP (877-849-4287). Tickets are $150 for Friday and $200 for Saturday. Included with the special section tickets is a complimentary Autumn season Clubhouse pass to Santa Anita Park, as well as a unique Zenyatta souvenir.

“We are thrilled that the Zenyatta Celebration will once again be a highlight at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships,” said Jerry and Ann Moss. “Santa Anita Park holds many special memories for us as the site of some of Zenyatta’s finest racing accomplishments.”

“Santa Anita Park has rolled out the red carpet for international race-goers and especially Zenyatta fans as they prepare for another Breeders’ Cup World Championship,” said Robert Elliston, Breeders’ Cup Chief Operating Officer. “The Zenyatta After-Party Celebration will be a fabulous way to honor one of Breeders’ Cup’s most popular stars and also raise funds for industry-related causes.”

Throughout her extraordinary racing career, Zenyatta thrilled racing fans with jaw-dropping victories and heart-pounding finishes. However, it was her memorable Breeders’ Cup performances, including her victories in the 2008 Ladies’ Classic, the 2009 Classic and her incredible finish at Churchill Downs in the 2010 Classic, that sealed her stardom and ignited a fan frenzy that has transcended the sport and endeared this stunning mare to millions.

  1. Just for fun, I am going to be posting lyrics from one of my favorite songs. It will be piecemeal, so give an old man some credit for remembering any of it. “When you’re driving through the desert and your car runs out of gas, Lotsa Luck, pal, lotsa luck.”

    1. Sounds good so far.

      1. Sue and Judy-See above. More to come.

        1. The way it cam out, see below. More to come.

    2. Dear TC GP:

Don’t recognize that one, but I’m interested to see what else you come up with. Hugs, JB

    3. “You will try to stop some strangers they will holler as they pass, lotsa luck, pal, lotsa luck. Then you’re walking miles and miles all uphill just to call the auto club, and the whole thing’s nip and tuck”

      1. “cause they’ll ask you for your number and your number’s in your wallet and your wallet’s in your car so lotsa luck. “When your TV sets breaks down and needs repairing bad, lotsa luck, pal. lotsa luck. You look through the yellow pages for a honest looking ad, lotsa luck, pal, lotsa luck. The man comes and says your set must go into the shop and he takes it in his truck,”

  2. CALLING ALL Z’ISTERS: LET’S HELP MARLENE DODGE BRING THESE SWEET HORSES HOME!
Well, I misspoke last time I gave you all an update. The total funds raised are just over $1,875 at this point and Marlene needs $5,000 to save 8 horses in the Fallon, NV feedlot who are bound for slaughter in Canada. Her deadline is Saturday, August 11 and it is already Wednesday, August 8! These horses include 6 well-broke geldings and mares aged 3-16, some of which are registered. There are also 2 youngsters who are just getting started in life. These are all very nice horses who, through no fault of their own, are in this terrible predicament. There are photos of each of these horses on the Valley View Ranch Equine Rescue website. Please go to http://www.valleyviewranchequinerescue.webs.com and do what you can to help Marlene. Thank you,

    Jeanie

    1. Thanks for the reminder Jeanie. Looks like there is still quite a ways to go here, but maybe our collective efforts will add up.

    2. Already sent, sounds like she needs all the help she can get.

  3. 9:34 AM this morning in Southern California felt a pretty good jolt from an earthquake. I heard there was one last night around 11:00 PM, but was asleep and didn’t feel that one.

    1. Dear Rosemary:

Los Angeles Times stating a magnitude of 4.1. Hope that’s the end of it. Hugs, JB

      1. Judy: Thanks for the info – I’m hoping that’s the end of it also. This one lasted quite a while. I’m at work, a two-story building, and we could feel bumps and a rolling motion for quite a while. It wasn’t just a quick hit and gone.

        1. Dear Rosemary:

Must be a very scary experience. Glad you’re OK. Hugs, JB

      2. Yes, Quakes are scary!!! A few months back, we had 3 back to back and that’s when I learned there’s 2 faults right under neath us. Didn’t know Vallejo had faults. LOL.. Get it?

Hang on tight those CA residents, good thing Team Z left !!!

I live in San Diego and did not feel the earthquakes. Went to the races at Del Mar last
week and had a very nice day. If I don’t go again this week, I’ll be going next week, for
sure. Yippee! I actually prefer Betfair Hollywood Park and always will. But I love any and
all race tracks, no matter how big or small!

    1. Duh – here is the link to the twitter page (or I guess you can just click on the “T” at the bottom of this page)

  7. Where in the world is Paynter?
Lots of Twitter tweets about Paynter & even Bode

Jay Privman‏ of Daily Racing Forum tweet
Paynter left Monmouth 7-31 bound for Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Ctr in Ringoes, NJ, according to paperwork in Mon. stall office

    Alex Brown‏ of AlexBrownRacing tweet
anyone have the latest on Paynter (pointing for Travers ?) & Bodemeister (pointing for ??)

    John Popovich‏ also tweets
@AlexBrownRacing Bode hasnt had a published work in about a month????? Paynter, BB says he’s shipping in a few days???

Then Alex Brown‏ of AlexBrownRacing follows up with tweet
    @ClaireNovak @DRFPrivman i saw that.
Do we know if Paynter is still at Medical Center, why he was there, & what it means ?
Keta Note: So many questions–so few answers

      1. Eveline,
Jay Privman has been all over this. He raised the alarm on Twitter (see above)
        and everyone chimed in.
Very curious as to why Bob Baffert & all are being so coy about Paynter.
Tracks, bettors, and other trainers should be told of what is happening.
Both Bode & Paynter had coughs. Bode first.
When I read this, I raised the question “is there something going around?” on an earlier Blog.
Inquiring minds still want to know.
        Keta

        1. Secretive trainers have been with us since the dawn of racing.

        2. Going to that hospital on friday, hmmm, maybe I can do some detective work LOL.

        3. Very interesting !!!

What is going around the Baffert Barn or is it airway issues for both !!!

  8. Sign,
FYI–left a Reply for you on Page 7
Don’t know if you check previous pages
    Hugs, Keta

  10. Hi Everyone! I just wanted to say Thank You So Much! for the donations received so far towards Thunder’s surgery. Thunder is such a sweet horse. If any of you are riders, you know there are just some horses you ride that you really click with. Thunder was one of these for me. He picked up on things so fast and really always enjoyed going out and being ridden. I hope someday to see him under saddle again!

His buddy Oscar is going through a really hard time right now. He has had a corneal ulcer since June 26. Nothing we have done so far has aided in getting it healed. These are extremely painful for the horse and I am so fortunate that Oscar is very cooperative in being treated. He stands just under 17 hands, so he could make life quite difficult for me if he wanted! Today I am getting a set of blinkers for him with a blind cup over one eye. Hopefully this will help it to heal and assure he is not rubbing his eye at all.

Anyway, to Marilu, Trina, Katherine, Barbara, Marshall, and Mary…thank you so much for the kindness and generousity! It really means a lot!

    Carol, Thunder, and Oscar

    1. Thanks for the update, Carol. Sending virtual hugs and prayers for you all. Hope you get lots more help.

  15. Carol, wait for the email then, all will be fine. I’m waiting for mine too. I probally won’t make such a quick pick this time and I don’t know who the probables are. We’ll see.

Alot of great lil stories today. Thanks to all that shared them.

Pati, try some “iced gatorade!” Meaning: a glass of crushed ice with a lil bit of gatorade in there. Eat the ice. If you’re praying to the porcelian god , you’re going to get dehydrated then, you’ll get even sicker. Just make sure to stay hydrated. Hope you feel better soon.

    1. Thanks, will do!

  16. Sorry about that silly song stuff. It’s been going through my head for awhil;e and I guess I took it out on you guys. Here are today’s redneck jokes. You might be a redneck if your wedding rehearsal dinner was held at Hooter’s. You might be a redneck if your back porch is bigger than your house. You might be a redneck if the car you bought new in 1973 still has the window sticker on it. You might be a redneck if you use duct tape as eyebrows. You might be a redneck if you don’t know what day Saturday Night Live comes on TV. You know you’re in a redneck hospital when, through the fog of anesthesia you hear your surgeon shouting “Bring the duct tape and plenty of it.”

    1. I bought some duct tape today. I have a plan for some of it, but boy is it a big roll. I could help out that surgeon for sure. Good ones again Terry GPB.

    2. Too good!

    3. TerryC. Duct tape can also be used to remove eyebrows.

  17. Life is Sweet’s first foal a colt by Smart Strike will be offered at the September Keeneland sale. He is Hip#115.

  18. Hi Folks:
Wow, I am just catching up. Thank you Mr. & Mrs. Moss for having another Zenyatta Party and celebration this year. I already purchased my Saturday ticket. But I’ll purchase my ticket for Friday in the Zenyatta section and my ticket for the party.

I am getting very excited about coming out to the BC. November will be here before we know it.

  19. Calling all horses and all of the rest of you, too :-) Just popping in to say high hoof to you all! We are in the middle of last minute preparations for our cruise to Alaska—will peek in here if/when I can. Will get back to you all when we return, in time for Pacific Classic. Hope to have time to check in here for a bit this weekend…. if not, then it’s

“North to Alaska, duh duh duh duh duh duh…”

    Carry on folks!

    1. “Big Sam left Seattle in the year of ’92,” Have a great time. THis is the ideal time of year for such a trip. I don’t know if you caught it, but Lit de Justice passed away recently. The article mentioned that the horse was trained by Jenine Sahadi. Would you have any comments to make in this regard?

  20. Hello all!! Wow, I sure feel out of it .. all the news here. I certainly wish I could attend Zenyatta’s 2nd Breeders Cup party. I can not this year but wherever the thought of Zenyatta is, her special owners the Moss’s, John and Z’s voice, Dottie, and our Mike, that is where my heart will be.
For all of you able to attend, you will have the best most memorable time! I will not forget Zenyatta’s 1st party in Kentucky shared with my BF!! Oh how I wished to be the one whose number would be picked to visit our Queen Zenyatta.

Sending love and kisses on Zenyatta’s soft nose as well as 12Z. Auntie Sally

  21. Aww i would love to go to something like this!! Sucks living in England sometimes =[ American racing is so much better than English racing!

  22. Wish I could go. Take lots of pix, friends and post them!
