  1. Dear Shirlee:

    I found the race with your namesake, Smiling Shirlee. It was the third race on Friday November 1st. She came from way back to get second spot. Beautiful girl. Here’s the replay. Love and Hugs, JB

    1. Judy,
      Thanks. I saw her name in the results. She tried hard.

      Hope you and yours are staying warm. It has been very cold and ugly here. We have set records for lows!

      I don’t have words to describe have I felt when I saw the top picture of Ann and Zenyatta. Close as I can get is breathtaking!

      Have a good Monday.

      1. Dear Shirlee:

        She’s had three starts and finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd. She’s only two and I think she’s only going to improve with experience. We have to keep track of this little Beauty.

        I agree, that photo of Ann and Z is breathtaking!

        It’s been very cold here too. Stay warm. Love and Hugs, JB

        1. Dear Judy and Shirlee,

          That was quite an amazing run from Smiling Shirlee! She had to travel wide so she had more ground to cover and still made second. Well done!

          Thanks for posting the replay, Judy. We definitely need to keep track of this beautiful two-year old girl! Hope she stays safe and sound. All the best wishes to Smiling Shirlee!

          Hugs and Love

        2. Dear Marshall:

          Yes, we have to follow our Shirlee’s namesake. She’s a brave little girl. Love and Hugs, JB

  12. Just saw on that California Chrome is being sold to Japan! His present ownership is keeping an interest and will have a say on what goes on. He will return to California when he is retired from breeding. Greed?

    1. Taylor Made is doing the right thing. There was very little interest from mare owners and his book for 2020 was not filling. His stud fee, though advertised as $35,000 for 2019 and $30,000 for 2020, was actually around $15,000 last year privately. There is oversight and a provision for a return to the States in the sales contract. Chrome will be well taken care of in Japan and this sale gives him more opportunity to succeed as a stallion. This is so much better than him becoming a regional stallion somewhere in California, New Mexico, New York, etc. where his stud fee would fall below $10,000. Taylor Made has been so generous to Chrome’s fans, I hope the fans don’t start bashing them.

      1. Sadly the fans are bashing them on social media. This horse does not belong to them so surely it is up to his owners to decide and he will return to the US to retire.I wish him well.

    Here is the link about Chrome.Seems Japan is the place to be!!!

    A very Happy 72nd wedding anniversary to Her Majesty and The Duke of Edinburgh.I know the Royal family have been in the news lately for all the wrong reasons but I am and remain a staunch Royalist.

    1. Thank-yo for the link Sheena! I wrote a post with a heavy heart!!!!

  14. Dear Z Family:

    I am devastated. Angela just texted me not to visit; Strangles on the farm. State Vet has ordered quarantine for undetermined amount of time. Please pray for my Charlie and all the horses.
    I don’t know if the diagnosis of Equine Virus B was incorrect to begin with or why this is happening. Just when things seemed to be getting back to normal, this nightmare begins again. I am really worried. Thank you for your prayers. Love and Hugs, JB

    1. Dear Judy.I am SO sorry to hear about the strangles outbreak.I pray Charlie will avoid it.I shall keep you and the farm in all my prayers.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT and all the sweeties>Love and Hugs SheenaX Waiting for news of Hovis.

    2. Judy,
      So sorry. Sending healing thoughts and prayers to all the horses on the farm. St. Francis protect Charlie from this horrible disease. Strength and peace to all the humans at the farm.

    3. Praying hard Judy.

    4. Dear Judy,

      I’m SO sorry and I will pray HARD for your beloved Charlie!

      Hugs, Kathy

    5. Dear Judy,

      I am so sorry to hear this — it is very upsetting to say the least. Sincere thoughts and prayers for the farm and all its inhabitants. Keeping Charlie and all his friends in my heart and sending all good wishes for safety and total healing.

      St. Francis keep careful watch over these innocents and help them to recover. 🙏
      I will keep you, Judy (Angela and staff, also), in my thoughts, too. May good health soon be restored to all.

      Hugs and Love

  15. Great article on Bloodhorse and a suggestion to read Donna Brothers blog,”PETA is a Bullly”

    1. Dear Barbara,

      I saw that article and read it from beginning to end. PETA’s attitude toward non-human animals is disturbing. To think they feel animals are better off dead than being with humans is really incomprehensible. Basically, they are against any domesticated animals.
      They appear to be unconcerned about animal welfare and sometimes behave like terrorists. Sorry if this offends anyone, but offing well-cared for animals rather than returning them to their homes is in no way an act of kindness.

      Donna Brothers article is definitely worth the reading — I knew PETA was extreme, but I had no idea how extreme.

      Hugs and Love

  16. Barbara,
    Thanks. Read the article and agree that PETA can go overboard sometimes. I have read that they don’t think dogs and cats should be pets! I love and care for my 2 cats and they live better than a lot of people. Hope racing can respond with grace and good sense. Too many black eyes here lately.

  17. My Dear Z Family:

    Thank you all for your sweet words and for your prayers. Love all of you. Hugs, JB

  22. On this day in 1963 President John F Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas Texas. We always remember.

    1. Dear Sheena,

      I remember well this tragic day. It is one of those dates that you remember exactly where you were when the news broke. I was in ninth grade General Science class — truly an awful day followed by darkness and much sadness. It was also on Friday in ’63.

      Thank you for remembering our national tragedy, my friend. In addition to our country, I think much of the world mourned.

      Hugs and Love

    2. RIP JFK. Love and Hugs, JB

  23. I wonder what our country and the world would be like had he lived. So sad. Everytime I hear Hail To The Chief and see Air Force One, I think of him.

    Sad news today about Make a Stand who has died aged 29yrs but a long life to be celebrated. The Champion Hurdler in 97’he enjoyed a wonderful retirement at Henrietta Knight’s.RIP

    1. Dear Sheena,

      Make a Stand is young again and running with the angels.
      RIP Champ.

      Hugs and Love

    2. RIP Make A Stand. Love and Hugs, JB

  25. Dear Sheena and My Z Family:

    Looks like the horse that came to the farm in September had Equine B Virus and Strangles. Angela texted me today. She said quarantine could last well into February. The problem is there are so many horses in the barn that when some horses get sick, they usually recover in about two weeks. In that time more horses are infected and on and on it goes. So I won’t be able to see my boy for a long while. Your prayers for the horses and Angela are so appreciated. Love all of you. Hugs, JB, LM and all the Sweeties

    1. Dear Judy.So sad to hear one horse caused such pain .May Charlie stay well.I will keep him and all the horses in my prayers.Poor Angela must be exhausted,Thinking of you all.God bless you LM PC HT and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

  26. Dear Z, COZ, ZI, ZEL and DC:

    Have a peaceful evening. Love you. Hugs, JB

    Altior’s unbeaten run has come to an end beaten by the new kid on the block Cyrname 17.3 hands.First time for Altior over 2 miles.Don’t know whether he will still run in the King George now.Congratulations to Cyrname and Team Nicholls.

    A day for the newbies as Lost in Translation wins the Betfair.A peach of a ride from Robbie Power. The owners lost their little boy and the horse runs on his favourite minions colours.Huge congratulations to all and Mullins has had a treble.

  29. My Dear Z Family:

    This is what’s happening on the farm. Please keep praying. Thanks. Love and Hugs, JB

    Source: Rhode Island State Veterinarian
    Number Confirmed: 1;
    Number Exposed: 47;
    Clinical Signs: Coughing, Fever, Nasal Discharge, Lymphadenopathy; Horse Status: Affected And Alive; Vaccination Status: Status Unknown;
    Notes: A 40+ horse boarding facility in Providence County, RI began experiencing mild respiratory disease in mid-September. Signs were mild fever, nasal discharge and cough. There are several attending veterinarians for the stable and one was consulted. This veterinarian obtained nasopharyngeal samples from 3 horses and submitted them for a respiratory panel where Equine Rhinovirus-B was discovered in 2 horses and Streptococcus equi zooepidemicus in all three. The farm owner separated the sick horses from well ones until the sick ones were clinically normal for greater than a week (all horses had temps monitored twice daily). Upon reintroducing the horses that were formerly showing signs, the well horses began showing similar signs with some also experiencing lymphadenitis and lymphadenopathy. To date approximately 26 horses have experienced some respiratory signs and 21 have not. A second veterinarian examined a single horse with the aforementioned signs and she obtained a nasopharyngeal sample that was qPCR positive for EHV-4 and Streptococcus equi equi. Upon this diagnosis the state veterinarian issued an order of quarantine. The owner had been maintaining strict biosecurity prior to the new diagnosis but two horses left the property to go to another boarding facility in the same town. There was no quarantine in place when they moved. There is no known disease at that farm and those horses moved about 3 weeks prior to the diagnosis of S. equ and EHV-4. ;

    1. Dear Judy,

      Thanks for the farm updates. Keeping all positive thoughts and healing prayers for the horses, and thoughts for continued strength and victory over these infections to Angela and her staff. Very best wishes, always.

      Hugs and Lots of Love

  30. Dear Sheena:

    Congrats to Cyrname, Lost In Translation and Mr. Mullins. Next time for Altior. Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB, LM and all the Sweeties
