  5. Unique Bella in ‘excellent shape,’ pointing to La Brea Stakes
    The Gallop Out HorseRacingNation ‎November ‎8, ‎2017
Unique Bella will next race Dec. 26 in Santa Anita’s Grade 1 La Brea Stakes.
“She loves Santa Anita, and she’ll be fine.”

  6. What a passle of pretty ponies!

Thanks, Alys, for showing us something lovely to smile about…

  7. Geezer sires rule at the Breeders Cup races. Interesting too that World Approval’s dam was 20 when Win Approval was foaled.

    https://www.paulickreport.com/features/bloodlines/bloodlines-breeders-cup-results-show-respect-older-sires/

    1. Translation: Win Approval is the dam of World Approval. He was the foal. Win is also Za Approval’s dam. That is a winning racing family, kind of like Lemons Forever and her daughters, Unbridled Forever and Forever Unbridled.

      1. Thanks. Will this be on the final exam? Love keeping the families names straight.

        1. Love those Forever girls in particular. You just have to remember the name “Forever” for all of them. They are lucky too because Fipke is a breeder as well as a racer. He was asked after Forever Unbridled won the Distaff which was easier – to find diamonds or to win a Breeders Cup race. He said that winning a BC race was harder to do.

      2. Loved meeting Win Approval at Live Oak. Her paddock really IS right next to her boys :-)

    2. Thanks, Max.
      Great article. Geezers rule!
The love and patience poured into Roy H paid off.

      1. Dear Max and Ann:

Thanks for posting this article Max.

Always find bloodlines so interesting to research. Wow, Win Approval produced World Approval at age 20 in 2012. Most likely her last foal and quite a talented boy.

        Love and Hugs, JB

        1. Dear Max and Z Fans:

Another article on World Approval and his Dam, Win Approval. He is, in fact, the last foal she produced. Love and Hugs, JB

          http://www.drf.com/news/world-approval-aims-give-dam-rare-double-bc-mile

        2. JudyB. That is a great article. The whole family sounds like they would rival Big D. I love the attitude of Win. She’s happy on her own, thinking in her paddock. Beautiful family.

        3. Dear Max:

Did you see the reference to “the great Wise Dan”.

Yes Mama Approval has earned her peace and privacy. Love and Hugs, JB

        4. Dear Judy and Max,

Thanks for posting these articles about World Approval’s dam, Win Approval.
Really enjoyed both articles very much.
Win is an independent girl — she seems to be the “Greta Garbo” of the lovely gray horses (I want to be alone)! :-) It is nice that she can see two of her boys from her pasture.

          Hugs and Love

  8. The chestnut club goes on. Biscuits is going for victory in the Cigar Mile.

    http://www.drf.com/news/sprinter-mind-your-biscuits-points-cigar-mile

    1. Dear Max:

Godspeed Biscuits. Beautiful Chestnut boy. Thanks for sharing. . Love and Hugs, JB

      1. His people might want to do what Fipke did at Del Mar, get Uncle Johnny to ride. He won with Forever in the Distaff and with World Approval in the Turf Mile. World took down the best of Ballydoyle at Woodbine and Del Mar on turf with Uncle Johnny. He’s also NY based.

        1. Dear Max:

Would love to see Uncle Johnny and Biscuits team up for the Cigar Mile. Love and Hugs, JB

        2. Sounds like a plan. Go get ’em, Biscuits!
Thanks for the news about a muti-tasking wonder horse.

    2. Dear Max,

Lots of Good Luck to Biscuits!! Hope he takes the Cigar Mile. Safe racing always.
Would love to see this member of the Chestnut Club in the Winner’s Circle for sure.
It would be good “PR” for his side businesses. :-)

Uncle Johnny and Biscuits would definitely make an excellent team.

      Hugs and Love

  13. Arrogate’s stud fee will be $75,000.Hovis’s surgery began shortly after 2pm.The other surgeries took far longer than expected. He looked extremely perky this morning Karen is in bits.Just praying for our gentle giant…..

    1. I am by far a rich woman, But… 75000. for Arrogate seems low to me. For crying out loud look at his record. But what do I know. I am only a couch and sometimes in person fan, lol. Just told my husband we need to find us a good mare for a reasonable amount and maybe dig up 75gs. Who knows we could have the next California Chrome, lol. Just dreaming.

      1. And $70,000 for Gun Runner.

        1. These are good prices to encourage breeders to take a chance on unproven stallions. Candy Ride is now charging $80k. For the $10k difference, some breeders might choose Gun Runner even without a record. Gun has learned business principles well from Biscuits.

  14. Hovis is recovering well after his surgery and munching his hay.I don’t know how Karen feels but I’m emotionally exhausted. He plans to see all those mares who sent their love and invited him into their stable.Karen thanks everyone for their messages and prayers.

    1. Dear Sheena:

Glad to hear Hovis got through his surgery and is eating. Keeping him, Karen and Lily in my prayers. Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB, LM and all the Sweetiesu

  15. Max, Love the plane ride conversation with Gun, Biscuits, and Aero, especially the part about wanting to meet Zenyatta!

I too am glad Songbird will have a great home and stays in US.

Would like an update on Lady Eli. She is expected to recover fully. Just curious, such a wonderful mare.

Thank you again for the wonderful pictures of Zenyatta and Z17. She is the Queen!

  16. Dear Mama Z, COZ, ZI, BBG and DC:

Have a peaceful evening and Happy Dreams. Love You. Hugs, JB

Z Pfincess, Dubai, Baby Z, will always love you.

  17. Dear Judy.Hovis still has a way to go but thank God he survived the surgery.A horrid day for Karen. We will hear Hovis’s side of the story tomorrow.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

    1. Dear Sheena,

Thank you so much for the news about Hovis! So glad he is through his surgery and is eating. I know he is anxious to see those smitten mares!

Prayers and well wishes continued for our big boy and his mum.

  19. Love the photos of Zenyatta and of her filly. Little Z is really bonded with her friends from paddock days together with their moms. Their photos together are adorable.

All the best to Hovis in his recovery, whew, so happy he came through the surgery and is eating. Hope each day gets better and that his surgery is a success.xo

  20. Hovis’s version of events and even a little video.Stay safe big guy and get home soon to your doting mama.

Poor baby boy. Amazing vets and my gosh, even under stress Mum can still make us laugh. Good job, Hovis!
      Behave handsome Hovis!!!!!

    2. Sheena
Glad the operation part is over.
Hope that Hovis’ recovery is speedy and uneventful.
The video of his walk down the hall was reassuring to see.
      Thank you for sharing this
      Hugs, BGG

    3. That’s amazing. Hovis is a courageous horse. Here’s hoping for a speedy and successful recovery.

    4. Dear Sheena,

Thanks for the Hovis diary update! It is a great read, and I am happy to see that both Hovis and Karen’s sense of humor is alive and well! 😍

Love the video even if Hovis is a bit embarrassed by not having his “sea-legs” yet.

Thoughts and prayers for an uncomplicated recovery with the desired outcome.

      Hugs and Love

  21. Good to hear Hovis with his usual gusto asking them to point him to the mares. You are truly a super hero big boy and we are rooting for you.

      1. Yes there was a lovely pic on Zenny’s Tribe (FB) but could.nt share.X

  23. Zenyatta’s Medaglia d’Oro filly is precious! I think a great name for her would be “Zenoro.”

  24. New Organization To Help Women Break Into Horse Racing Industry
by Natalie Voss Paulick Report 11.09.2017
oung women looking to break into the Thoroughbred business will soon have a central network of allies to help them do it. Anna Seitz and Donna Barton Brothers announced the creation of the Thoroughbred Women’s Network during a panel on women in racing at the Ownerview National Owner Conference during Breeders’ Cup week.
    https://www.paulickreport.com/news/the-biz/new-organization-help-women-break-horse-racing-industry

    1. Thanks for the post, BGG.
This is a very good thing — Kudos to Anna Seitz and Donna Barton Brothers!

Donna Brothers is outstanding. Her insight into races and her on horseback interviews of the winning jockey are impressive.

      Good Luck to this organization!

  25. Zenyatta, I have been away from your blog for a while, but no mistake, my heart is always with YOU! I love the pictures of you and your filly.

I received a week ago the Queen of Racing DVD and watched every minute of all the wonderful things about you. Such incredible loving memories I will always have.

Love you with kisses and to your sons and daughters,
    my dear Sir
    Auntie Sally B

  26. Such a beautiful filly having a wonderful horse life – we will anxiously await news about you and your Mother – Is she in foal again?

    Jeanne and the Herd

  27. Thank you for these beautiful photos of our Queen Mother and her daughter and friends.
The connection to friends through the wonderful world of Zenyatta is truly life affirming.
With so much chaos and sadness in the world this is a haven of peace and happiness.

    Keep feeling better Hovis.

  28. Zenyatta’s filly has grown up so and looks like quite the young lady. She is just beautiful!

I hope she was not too upset over being separated from Mom and vice-versa. Please god, look after this filly and keep her safe and healthy!

I’m also glad Zenyatta is ” dry” this year and gotten a year off from “Motherhood” duties.

    1. Actually, Zenyatta is not “dry” this year but is expecting a foal by Into Mischief in 2018.
