Happy Wednesday!
We’re quite excited about the upcoming Breeders’ Cup Zenyatta Celebration. Have you purchased your tickets yet?
Alys sent us a great new batch of photos of 12Z of the boys having fun, so we thought we’d share them with all of you.
Team Z is headed to Lane’s End, so we’ll be posting more photos and fun updates in the coming days. As of today, we’re also on Instagram! Follow us (@teamzenyatta) for updates throughout our trip. Even if you don’t use Instagram, you can see every photo we post through our Twitter feed. Our most recents tweets are always on the right side of the blog.
Enjoy!
-Team Z

LOVE LOVE LOVE THE HALTER GAME.

August 8, 2012 at 3:43 pm
You realize they’re reverse engineering their halters.

Great photos of Junior and his bud! Thank you SO much for keeping us updated. Can’t wait to see pics of Team Zenyatta! Whoo hoo!!
August 8, 2012 at 3:49 pm
It’s great seeing them having such fun…..just being babies!
August 8, 2012 at 3:50 pm
Any day now we’ll be getting the news 12Z has left mom’s side for good.. Judging by these pictures he has a great friend to keep him company during this transition.
August 8, 2012 at 3:53 pm
man, they are growing :) great pictures!!!
August 8, 2012 at 3:54 pm
Such happy kids!
August 8, 2012 at 3:56 pm
Oh thank you LE team and Alys for these fabulous photos!! The boys look to be having a great rough and tumble time out there with no thought of mamas. He will be ready soon to leave Z’s side and join the batchelor group. I bet Zenny will be glad too, he’s probably getting to be a real brat…..but what a handsome one he is…..and he’s keeping those wonderful large ears…..hooray!
Love and nose kisses to Zenny and EARnie, Auntie Sue

Thank you LE and Alys for the photos – agree with Sue he looks to be a real handful – but with the Queen as his Mum who wouldn’t be

I simply cannot wait for pictures of Team Z’s reunion with Prince Z!! And, I am so excited to finally hear his NAME when the Team arrives, (or at least I hope I do!) He looks like ‘His Majesty’ is the master of the paddock and he has many enjoyable subjects! What fun!! He’s growing up so beautifully!
August 8, 2012 at 6:10 pm
The Mosses usually name their horses after two year old training.
So you will have a little bit longer wait than this visit.
August 8, 2012 at 9:53 pm
I think weaning is nigh! Sigh! But not naming day! For that we must be patient…
August 8, 2012 at 4:04 pm
I don’t see any mommys in these pictures….
August 8, 2012 at 6:11 pm
They are all gown up and ready to play more and learn their manners.
So interesting how the mares body prepares the foal to be weaned by
decreasing milk supply, increasing feed and therefore becoming more
independent.

That comment came out a little garbled – blame it on the effect of anti-cold tablets (it’s still winter over here in Oz). Meant to say that if the Boy looks confident and secure it’s hardly a surprise given who his Mum is. And I also agree those ears are just magic. Hope it cools down/rains for you poor hot folk over there!
August 8, 2012 at 4:06 pm
Yay, a new post! Z12 and his buddy are just too, too cute! I could stare at these pictures all day. Thanks, Lanes End, for sharing these adorable pictures with us. I’m going to visit Thunder on Saturday morning! I can’t wait to meet him and Oscar. I’ll be sure to give everyone a full report. I’m also going to Our Mims Retirement farm on Sunday. I’m really looking forward to that, too.
To all the Dumplings out there – we need some more redneck jokes for the Golden Outhouse Award! So far there’s only 2, mine and Rosemary’s, and the deadline is next week. We need some more competition!
August 9, 2012 at 11:48 am
Debbie G – I agree – we have so many talented Z fans, I’m surprised there aren’t more entries. Attention all Rednecks (or wannabe Rednecks) break out your best Redneck jokes and do TC GPB proud!
August 8, 2012 at 4:08 pm
Oh yes, can’t wait to see team Z at Lane’s End!
August 8, 2012 at 4:10 pm
I have a feeling that this trip won’t be announcing 12Z name but rather that he’s being/has been weaned.
In any event wow a whole bunch of pics! THANKS AND DOUBLE THANKS!
August 8, 2012 at 4:18 pm
Ok….I am old and blind but I don’t see a gray ….just the two boys…SM’s boy is by Candy Ride….and I think he is the one with PrinZ
August 8, 2012 at 4:57 pm
The gray colt is not in these pictures, but he has been in others. I think there are some in the photo gallery or in earlier blog posts. He’s just beginning to gray; you can see lightening on his muzzle, around his eyes, and a bit on his midsection. 12Z’s bestie seems to be the bay, though. He’s in all the pictures!
August 8, 2012 at 7:00 pm
The grey colt is actually in the picture 4th down.
It threw me because I thought the colt facing the camera in the picture was Z12 and I was looking for his left front white sock but I realize now that the gray colt is facing us, Z12 has his back to us. You can also tell because there is a bit of green electrical tape on the right side of Z12′s halter.
August 9, 2012 at 5:48 am
You are right! Now that I look again his legs are definitely gray.
August 9, 2012 at 10:40 am
PLEASE tell me where you are seeing “grey” on that colt? He just looks brown to me.
August 9, 2012 at 10:47 am
Sandy,
You can see it on his legs, particularly the back legs, his barrel, shoulder and rump.
Look at this link and scroll down to the image of the “Steel Gray” You’ll see the similarity to SM’s Candy Ride colt.

Very cool link – thanks Zenyen. I guess my brain was stuck on a Hansen type image! Had no idea there were all of those variations.
August 8, 2012 at 4:27 pm
I just love those ears!
August 8, 2012 at 4:29 pm
He’s getting so big! What a pleasure to see the photos Queen Z! Thank you.
August 8, 2012 at 4:30 pm
I’m happy to hear Team Z is arriving at Lane’s End. It’s gotta mean one thing; a name for 12Z! Finally. I can’t wait to hear what it is!!!
On a side note: I attended the yearling sales this past Monday and Tuesday at Fasig-Tipton in Saratoga Springs NY and of course a visit to the Lane’s End barn was a must!! Ended up having a great chat with “Frank” one of the night watchmen at Lane’s End! He told me all about the farm and what his duties include and how “really nice all the folks are that work at Lane’s End”. He also said that Zenyatta is a real sweet brood mare and does anything that is asked of her. Awww :) Well Frank was a real sweetheart and listening to his stories was the best part of the night! I could help but imagine that The Queen herself wasn’t right around the corner :) Thanks Frank!
August 8, 2012 at 5:02 pm
Kim in Saratoga NY,
Thank you for sharing your experience visiting with Frank from Lane’s End. I think we will never be able to get enough glimpses of Zenyatta, where she lives and how she’s doing. His report was good to hear. Marty R
August 8, 2012 at 6:13 pm
Actually Kim,
The Mosses don’t name their horses until they complete two year old training.
So there is a bit longer wait for that.
August 9, 2012 at 9:34 am
Thanks for sharing the story about Frank. Very special. I bet he enjoyed filling you in!
Thanks Kim and Frank.
August 8, 2012 at 4:34 pm

August 8, 2012 at 4:41 pm
Wow. Good thing I have instagram! :-D
August 8, 2012 at 4:50 pm
Thanks so much for the charming photos!
August 8, 2012 at 4:56 pm
Thank you Alys and Lane’s End for marking Z12 turning five months old with some fabulous pictures.
I’ve been wondering if Mr. and Mrs. Moss would come to Lane’s End around the weaning time. They always attend Zenyatta’s big events, occasions, etc. I’m not expecting to hear a name very soon. I would love to be surprised, but I’m not even expecting it until after his racing training or just before his first race. I think Mr. and Mrs. Moss want to choose the perfect name.
Well, this visit to Zenny’s website brought big smiles.
August 8, 2012 at 5:20 pm
I’m not sure he is ever going to grow into those ears! He’s like a puppy trying to fit into their feet. LOL.
He is so fabulous. Thank you so much for the pictures.
August 8, 2012 at 5:23 pm
Love Love those ears
August 8, 2012 at 5:27 pm
Baby Z Looks more and more about him mom including that muscular back end.
August 8, 2012 at 5:28 pm
Baby Z Looks more and more like Z including that muscular back end.
August 8, 2012 at 5:45 pm
He’s such a handsome boy. No more baby fuzz…just a fuzzy tail still. I’m glad to see that he is a sociable little guy; that will make weaning much easier. Team Z, thank you so much for the photos and updates.
August 8, 2012 at 5:49 pm
Is 12Z ever going to grow into those ears? I kind of hope not ;) Thank you, Lane’s End!
