ZENYATTA WILL BE BRED TO TAPIT
Owners Jerry and Ann Moss announced today that ZENYATTA, the 2010 Horse of the Year, will be sent to Tapit to be bred in 2012. “ZENYATTA’s pedigree is a great match to the A.P. Indy sire line, and in choosing Tapit, we think this will be a dynamic mating. Her first mating was to Bernardini, a son of A.P. Indy, and we are thrilled with her colt.”
A grandson of Lane’s End’s two-time leading sire A.P. Indy, Tapit is by Pulpit and out of the stakes winner Tap Your Heels. Tapit, a Grade 1 winner, was third on the General Sire list last year and is currently ranked second on that list. He is the sire of three Breeders’ Cup winners in his first four crops, including last year’s champion juvenile colt Hansen. Tapit stands at Gainesway.
ZENYATTA is boarded at Mr. and Mrs. William S. Farish’s Lane’s End Farm near Versailles, Kentucky. She foaled a colt by Bernardini on March 8 and the Mosses were at Lane’s End for the birth.

I have loved Pulpit since my meeting with him in 2003 at Claiborne. The breeding of one of his sons with Zenyatta is probably the most exciting news I’ve heard since the birth of Z12!

Don’t like the Tapit idea sorry. Your Gainesway resident that was a near Triple Crown Winner except for one length is Afleet Alex. That is who I would like to see Zenyatta bred to. The stamina, speed, and distance are right there as well as the great temperament.
The little Bernardini foal is precious, I love him. Why does the foaling process have to be at an assembly line production rate? Can’t it rest a year?
Zenyatta has already proven her worth and value on the track as the greatest female racehorse ever. She has nothing to prove in my book, not even in breeding. She is the best, bar none. If a foal is lucky enough to inherit her traits then great, but what is the rush to Tapit?

I have the same question… why rush to the next breeding? Why not wait?

I think a wonderful stud for Z woudl be the great Big Brown.
Came close to winning Triple crown (Lost the belmont due to improper shoeing)
Related to Northern Dancer, Native Dancer, and the Famous daddy of Secretariat, Bold Ruler.
Related to the well missed Barbaro and is related to Secretariat (Due to bold ruler)
Both are wonderful racers and not to mention Zenyatta is Related to Street Cry and Mr. Prospector and far far back is Native Dancer.
Both have won their weight of grade one stakes. and both are wonderful horses.
Big Brown should be Zenyatta’s next mate after Tapit.

are you going to keep her barefoot and pregnant until she is in her 30′s???
July 22, 2012 at 1:59 pm
Non- horse people don’t understand that a mare in top shape is usually bred on her 9 day foal heat, this is totally as nature intended, most single bearing mammals have off -spring yearly.
