Ziconic Begins His New Career

Ziconic with Linda Moss and George Bedar

Dear Fans,

I am delighted to share with you that Ziconic is moving on to his next career as an Off-The-Track-Thoroughbred! I couldn’t be happier that he now has a new home and is being welcomed into the loving arms of Linda Moss (Cousins of the Heart) and her husband, George Bedar.

Filled with enthusiasm, Linda remarks, “George and I are so incredibly honored and over the moon to have the opportunity to provide for Ziconic and to take the journey with him in the coming chapters of his life as an OTTB. This is the stuff dreams are made of, and having him join our family is beyond words.”

Ziconic will also be joining his Mom’s stablemate Milyone (also a Moss horse trained by John Shirreffs) at Templeton Farms, a Sporthorse Farm in California. We have known Linda and George since they welcomed Milyone, who has now been under their very special care for seven years.

It is our belief that horses let you know what they like to do. As Ziconic settles into his new home and new program, it will become clear what he is destined for. We are confident that Linda and George will be there to ensure that he can enjoy life and thrive.

We look forward to Ziconic becoming an Ambassador for Off-The-Track-Thoroughbreds in California and beyond, just as Cozmic One has become an OTTB Ambassador based in Kentucky.

Linda & George recently shared two things that they have already noticed about Ziconic: He is very proud of himself, and he ALWAYS knows where the camera is!

We look forward to continuing to update you on Ziconic’s transition, his new Team members, and his new happy life.

Hugs, Ann Holbrook Moss

Ziconic in his stall, May 2019.

Dear Judy.Looked hot at the races .The youngest female at Glaslyn still has’nt fledged going for the record maybe,She was the one who rolled on her back when she was little and they had to intervene but she is fine now looks ready to go perhaps a lack of confidence.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

    1. Max certainly proved himself today as did Mucho Gusto. He did look a bit distressed in the winners circle. Gary West even said that he may have taken enough out of himself today that he may not make the Travers.

      1. Dear Kathleen:

The high heat and humidity didn’t help either. Hope they all came back well. Want so to see Max win the Travers, but he did give it his all today. Hope they will do what is best for him. Love and Hugs, JB

  4. Dear Sheena and Z Fans:

Yes, Max did it in style. Determined win. Nice second by MMM’s boy, Mucho Gusto too.

Hope the little girl fledges soon. Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB, LM and all the Sweeties

  5. Dear Z Fans:

Here’s the replay of Max’s Haskell win. Love and Hugs, JB

    1. Congrats to Max Security and his connections.
You are a big beautiful boy!
What a year of racing? Hope everyone came out safe and sound yesterday from the heat.

On a sad note- RIP Mary Lou Whitney. Thanks for all you did for the sport, fans and especially the hard workers. Love and hugs.

      1. Ditto everything you posted, neighbor.

        Have a good week!
        Hugs and Love

        1. Thanks. You too.
AHHHH, relief has come. Rain with cooler temps and lower humidity. Feel like a new person already!

  6. Dear Shirlee and Z Fans:

A Bay filly, Mucho Unusual, by MMM won the San Clemente at Del Mar today. She won in the style of our Zenny. Nice ride by JR too. Here’s the replay. Congrats to her and to MMM on her win and Mucho Gusto’s nice second to Max in the Haskell. Hope everyone came back well. Love and Hugs, JB

  7. Dear Z Fans:

Just read that Joevia was scratched out of the Haskell due to a foot injury. I like him very much; he’s a spunky warrior.

Power up beautiful boy; healing prayers. Love and Hugs, JB

So sad to report Sea of Class was euthanised earlier today when another tumour was found.A large mass was removed during surgery over 2 weeks ago.She had fought so hard these past weeks. My sympathy to William,Maureen and all the team.A huge loss for them

    1. Dear Sheena,

Very sad to hear this news. Read it was a malignant tumor (lymphoma) and they found another one on a follow-up scan the size of an orange. The odds were stacked against her, but she fought for a long as she could. RIP brave girl and race with the clouds.
Prayers for her connections as they deal with her loss

    2. On no!!! Too sad beyond words. So very young, too. Does anyone remember Lost In The Fog? He also died of cancer when he was only four.

      1. Yes, I remember him. They did not know at the time, but feel that is why he ran so poorly in the Breeder’s Cup. He was a very good looking boy.

    3. Dear Sheena:

Oh, so sorry to hear this. Rest In Peace beautiful girl. 😪

Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB, LM and all the Sweeties

    4. Dear Sheena,

I am so sorry. What a loss. Condolences to all her connections.
RIP Sea of Class. A beautiful brave girl, gone too soon.

      Hugs and Love

Stay cool and Happy Dreams. Love all of you so much. Hugs, JB

  14. Congrats to Maximum Security for his win. Very very proud of Muchie’s boy, Mucho Gusto and his little girl Mucho Unusual. He has quite a nice first crop.

So sad about Sea of Class. So young. It does seem as if she had excellent care and they made the right decision in the end. And yes, I remember the excellent runner, Lost In The Fog.

Omaha Beach is training at Del Mar! Looks wonderful.

Hope everyone else is enjoying a cool down. It is in the low 80s here after that horrible heat for a week or so.

    1. https://www.rossdales.com/lambourn

This is where Sea of Class was treated. She never really stood a chance with such an aggressive form of cancer.

    2. Dear Shirlee:

So good to see Omaha Beach back in training. Hope he feels as good as he looks. Beautiful boy. Those War Fronts are absolutely stunning looking. Love and Hugs, JB

The amazing mare Ouija Board enjoys her mints.

    1. Thanks for the post, Sheena!

Ouija Board looks lovely! So glad to see her getting her peppermint treats.
Her friend is quite a nice-looking human. :-)

      Hugs and Love

  16. Dear Sheena:

She’s a Beauty. Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB, LM and all the Sweeties

    1. Dear Judy,

Thanks a million for posting Steve Haskin’s tribute to Mrs. Whitney. He always writes with such insight and talent/feeling. Beautifully expressed — my eyes are glistening, and my vision is a bit blurry. She was indeed the last of an era when class, elegance and compassion prevailed along with true love of the horses. Beauty inside and out, what a heart she had!

      Hugs and Love

      1. Dear Marshall:

Nobody does it better that Mr. Haskin. Mrs. Whitney truly was a lovely person. She felt as sorry for Smarty as everyone else even though her horse won. Love and Hugs, JB

  17. Dear Z, COZ, ZI. ZEL and DC:

Have a restful evening. Goodnight and Happy Dreams. Love and Hugs, JB

  18. Dear Judy.A very sticky night over here thank goodness it has rained a little now.Lovely tribute to Mrs Whitney.Goodnight God bless youLM PC HT and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX.The female did eventually fledge at Glaslyn!

    1. Dear Sheena:

Glad you’re getting a reprieve from the humidity. We had cooler temps, but still humid.

I just viewed the video you posted of Enable and Frankie on the previous Blog page. What a gorgeous, talented girl she is. She has what resembles a heart on her face; so perfectly suits her persona. Thank you so much for sharing it. Godspeed to her and Frankie this weekend. Love and Hugs, JB

  19. Judy,
Thanks for posting Steve’s tribute to Ms. Whitney. One of the Ramsey mares is named for her-Thank You Marylou. Ms. Whitney helped Mrs. Ramsey quite a bit when she was ill so they named a horse after her.

Guess who is coming here! Sir Prancelot! Love his name and his daughter who is racing here.

    1. Dear Shirlee:

That’s the cutest name! Love Mr. Prancelot too. Love and Hugs, JB

  20. Prayers needed for Subbie. He has been admitted to the Clinic with dehydration after his attack of colic over the weekend. He has suffered with Kidney trouble since his racing days.Indeed they thought they would lose him on Sunday because he would never have survived surgery so power up Subbie.

    1. Definitely will pray for Subbie. Colic seems to be what finally catches so many elderly horses. A couple weeks before Dixie colicked she had bloodwork that my vet said was the ‘best bloodwork for any of his patients ‘ that day. And all the other horses were much younger.

She had pulled through several earlier bouts and did well. Prayers that Subbie will be feeling good and happy again soon.

    2. Dear Sheena:

Prayers for sweet Subbie. Love and Hugs, JB, LM and all the Sweeties

    3. Prayers for Subzero and positive healing thoughts.
      Power Up sweet boy.

      Hugs and Love

  21. Would it be possible to find out if Zenyatta has been retired from being a broodmare. Have not found out if she is in foal for the 2020 spring foal and to who she was bred to. Seems hush hush. Love this mare and her son Ziconic.

  22. Dear Z Fans:

What a story this is. Poor Mr. Changue was swallowed up by a sinkhole while he was grazing, he was rescued and then twelve days later won a race. Wow! What a gutsy boy. Love and Hugs, JB

    1. Dear Judy,

That is an amazing story! Congrats to Mr. Changue and connections!
I really enjoyed this very happy outcome — he is truly a survivor. Hooray!

      Thanks for sharing. 😍

      Hugs and Love

    2. There’s a picture in today’s BloodHorse daily newsletter that shows our Brenda in white with a pink border on the right side of the shot!! She was invited to be in the winner’s circle for Mr. C!

      1. Thanks Sandy!
How exciting for Brenda to be in the winner’s circle — Yay, Mr. C! That was some experience he had with that sinkhole.

        Hugs and Love

      2. Dear Sandy:

Oh wow, that great. Have to look for the photo. Love and Hugs, JB
