Is’nt Prince Louis a little sweetheart. The Queen’s official birthday parade.

    1. Total cuteness! A beautiful family.
I have said it before, but Queen Elizabeth II is an amazing lady. Splendid!

      Thanks for posting, Sheena.
      Hugs and Love

  5. Congratulations, Sir Winston and connections on your Belmont Stakes win!

Frankie and his best girl EnableX

Congratulations to Sir Winston on his Belmont win.Very appropriate in this D-Day anniversary week.

    1. Dear Sheena:

Poetry in motion. Godspeed Enable and Frankie. Love and Hugs, JB

  7. Sooo, Sir Winston won the Belmont, and good job, indeed. However, he solidly interfered with (of all horses!!) War of Will. I don’t begrudge him his victory one little bit, but wow.–it makes the KD ever so much more painful.

    1. Dear Kathleen:

Will never get over Max’s disqualification. Can’t wait to see him in the Haskell. Godspeed Beauty. Love and Hugs, JB

    2. Excitement rages!
Congrats to Sir Winston and connections on your win.
Yes, JB, looking forward to summer racing!

      1. Dear Ann:

Will be interesting to see who gets Eclipse award for best 3 year old of 2019. . Right now, MAX has my vote. Guess this Summer’s races may be the true test. Love and Hugs, JB

  8. Dear Sheena, Kathleen and Z Fans:

Congrats to Sir Winston on his win in the Belmont Stakes. Nice 2nd and 3rd by Tacitus and Joevia too. Watched the races from Belmont all day and thankfully, everyone appears to have come back safely. Love and Hugs, JB

    1. Dear Judy,

Yes, hearty Congratulations to Sir Winston on winning the Belmont Stakes! As Sheena noted, very appropriate for the D-Day anniversary week. A very good race, and it looks as though everyone finished safely, thank goodness. Congrats to Tacitus and Joevia, too.

It seems to me that NBC didn’t broadcast as much of the undercard races this year as they did in previous years. There was nothing on NBCSN today nor was there anything yesterday. I felt a little short-changed during the Preakness, also. Coverage of Belmont started at 4PM on NBC. However, I enjoyed watching what was available.

      Hugs and Love

      1. Dear Marshall;

I watched all the races on my computer. Yes, strange there wasn’t more on NBC. Wonder if Fox Sports covered it. I don’t have cable any more, but I do have access to the races on my PC. Love and Hugs, JB

        1. Dear Judy,

I forgot about Fox Sports — Rats!
Only one of the Fox Sports channels is listed in my channel guide, but I can get the other one, too. Unfortunately, I didn’t think to check channel 400 or 401. FSCR1 (400) is listed and did not have horse racing Saturday, but I forgot about FS2 (401). I am so accustomed to NBCSN having the early undercard races before handing off to the local NBC station for the last 3 or 4 races (including the major race). Oh well, maybe next year.

          Hugs and Love

  9. Dear Sheena:

Adorable photos of Kate William and the children. Louis is going to be a heartbreaker I think. Good night. Love and Hugs, JB, LM and all the Sweeties

  10. Dear Z, COZ, ZI, ZEL and DC:

Lovely day at Belmont today. Sending all of you Happy Dreams. Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB

  11. Dear Judy.Thank goodness the rain eased today and the bobs had a quiet day.Warmer air coming from the continent next week but bringing torrential rain to Hovisland.Oh,Prince Louis is adorable.Thunder Snow managed 3rd in his race.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

Such a joy to see Cue Card today in the RoR programme. He looks magnificent.
A sad video doing the rounds this week from South Korea not sure when the deaths occurred but offspring of Street Cry,Big Brown and MDO slaughtered for meat. This country makes $11 billion a year through racing but finds it too expensive to retire racehorses????Horrific to see horses beaten entering the abattoir.

    1. Hi Sheena

So disgusting about these young horses. Unfortunately, this happens just about every where. Every year a whole new influx of 2-year-olds comes on board while about an equal number of horses leave. Some go to the breeding sheds while some are re-homed for new vocations. Others are destroyed, either humanely or by slaughter. Many of the horses sent to slaughter are perfectly healthy horses. Not only the Thoroughbred industry does this either.

  13. And so it came to pass the King of clay Rafael Nadal walked on court at Roland Garros this afternoon and won his 12th men’s singles title beating Dominic Theim 6-3 5-7 6-1 6-1.The long semi final Theim played took it’s toll in the end.It was in 2005 Nadal won his first title in Paris.Congratulations to Aussie Ashleigh Barty for winning the Ladies final yesterday,

Sad news from Glaslyn the middle chick died this morning at 7.30.First chick Mrs G has lost in 10yrs then at about 10.50am the youngest chick rolled on it’s back and could’nt rise up so after much consultation with experts they decided to intervene and got him to his feet. They have no idea whether the tumble has caused any damage but they felt he should be given a chance of survival. They have removed the dead chick for analysis. It’s been cool here this week and such heavy rain on Friday although his appetite was poor Thursday night. All well at the Dyfi.

  14. Sad to hear of 2 more fatalities at Santa Anita.Formal Dude fractured his pelvis on Saturday and a filly Truffalino(sp) collapsed and died today She was 3 and trained by Richard Mandella.RIP

    1. I HAVE REMOVED MY TWO AND 3 year old horses from all racing connections at Santa anita because of the above situations. They are no longer in training. I do not know what to believe about the santa anita issues. i suspect foul play somewhere. Someone has to get to the bottom of this. The L.A county district attorneys office is currently conducting an investigation. I just had to protect my young horses. this is terrifying to me.OMG.

      1. Added comment. I truly believe that john Shirreffs is not/or cannot be involved in what is going wrong at Santa Anita. I have known him for years and trust him completely. But, for now My baby horses are not in training.

  15. Dear Sheena:

You’re news on the horses at SA, in Korea and the Osprey chicks is quite upsetting. Many tears!

RIP Beauties. Power Up little chick. Love and Hugs, JB, LM and all the Sweeties

  16. Dear Z, COZ, ZI, ZEL and DC:

Stay comfy and cozy and Happy Dreams. Love You. Hugs, JB

  17. Dear Judy.I have always believed the sadness we endure in life should make us appreciate the happy times even more. The chick has eaten well now and seems to be ok.The four at Manton Bay are thriving.I have no idea what is happening at SA so many fatalities now.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

  18. Marilyn, good for you. The horse should always come first.

There were races on NBSCSN, and then more on NBC. I thought the Met Mile was the most exciting.

Waiting for MS to come back and show them how good he is.

  19. Okay, I am by no means an expert on what I am writing. First, Marilyn, I totally commend you on putting your horses first. I am horrified by these deaths (and no one is even mentioning the injured horses who survive!).

I don’t even pretend to know what is happening at Santa Anita. However, I think the problem is much bigger. For example, last year the most dangerous tracks were Hawthorne and Churchill Downs. And these stats did not include training, only racing.

The problem is further compounded by the lack of transparency in reporting. Santa Anita is reporting everything while tracks in other states don’t make everything public. It takes the public’s eye off of what is happening elsewhere.

I love horses, whether they are super horses like our Zenyatta or ones who can’t even win a cheap claimer. I don’t think I have the heart for horse racing anymore.

One of the greatest finishes ever 41yrs ago today to cheer you up.

Miserable weather here but the Glaslyn chick seems fine today

    1. Thanks, Sheena.
What a glorious pair they were!
RIP Alydar and Affirmed — truly unforgettable.

      Hugs and Love

  21. Dear Judy.A miserable night here again. This time last year we were basking in temps of 30C.The Glaslyn chick seems fine today but the team got a lot of flak for not carrying out a rescue sooner.I wish they would realise this is the Natural world and is it our right to intervene?I support any decision Glaslyn choose to take.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

  22. Omaha Beach is headed to California. Think Mandella stables at Santa Anita. God protect him and all the horses there.

    1. I saw the video last night and wondered if he was heading for SA.May God go with him.

Today we remember the incomparable Sir Henry Cecil who died this day in 2013.He saved the best til last…..Frankel.RIP Henry with Royal Ascot coming up you are missed more than ever.RIP

Such sad news as 1000gns runner up Lady Kaya is euthanised after breaking a leg on the gallops this morning.Trained by Sheila Lavery and owned by her niece Joanne it was a fairytale for them when she came 2nd to Hermosa back in May.Much sympathy to the Laverys and her jockey Robbie Coglan RIP little Lady.

    1. So very sorry to hear this news. Just heartbreaking — condolences to all her connections.
Rest in Peace Lady Kaya, dear girl. :-(

Thanks for the update on Solow, Sheena. He is so handsome and looks to be very happy in his retirement. Nice to know that he is loved.

      Hugs and Love

    1. Dear Sheena,

He’s BEAUTIFUL! Thank you so much for posting!

      Hugs, Kathy
