Good Morning Everyone!
What a fun day! I have so many wonderful things going on in my life that I want to share with you! Firstly, HERE I AM…in the above photo…DANCING! It is a photo of my BRONZE. YEAH! Dottie was able to request #19/100 for the contest. Bet you can’t guess why she wanted this particular number? We thought it would have a great deal of meaning and significance, for sure! So, 19 is the NUMBERED BRONZE being reserved for our LUCKY WINNER.
Also, she met with the postal people again yesterday afternoon and this is the address to use when mailing your post cards for the contest. Please address the cards exactly as follows:
ZENYATTA John Shirreffs 511 S. First Ave #230 Arcadia, CA 91006
Each day, they are going to place the cards that arrive in large carrying containers for John to pick up. He will then take them to the barn for the drawing. It is getting very, very exciting!
In relation to the timeframe for the draw, we want to give you time for your cards to arrive from all over the country etc. Thus, we will do the DRAWING for the 64 contestants on Monday, APRIL 4, 2011. Technically, the last day for mail delivery is Saturday, April 2nd. The DRAWING will take place on the following Monday, the 4th, after training hours at BARN 55!
Please have fun with all of this and drive carefully as you go to the Post Office to mail your cards. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
Just heard that LIFE IS SWEET is in the foaling barn! Hooves Crossed for her today! I’ll keep you posted.
Another very cute thing is happening today! It is my BERNIE’S BIRTHDAY! He was born on March 23, 2003. I hope he has a fabulous day! My BIRTHDAY is coming up soon as well, April 1st. Bernie is a year older than I am…but this is TOO CUTE…we are both ARIES. I guess I’m going to have to read about all of the fabulous qualities of an ARIES and see how much we are alike. John’s MOM, Mary Jane, is an ARIES as is Dottie’s sister, Fran. From my personal experiences, this is a great sign! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BERNIE!
Enjoy your day!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~ (And a special BIRTHDAY HUG for my BERNIE!)

Happy Birthday Bernardini! I was hoping that Life Is Sweet’s foal might be born tomorrow on my birthday, the 24th. Can’t wait to hear what she has. Off to mail my card. Happy Birthday to all the Aries!

Love you, Zenyatta!

hello Ms. Z….you are so adorable…thanks for your newsy posts…love to all of your family, both horse and human!!

The number 19 is very special indeed. Before you ran in the last BC I was very superstitious about the number 20. I kept my radio volume on that number amongst other things. Now I know 19 is way more special than 20. I’m an Aries too. We are very strong minded, but kind and generous at the same time. Wish you could give Bernie a big B-day kiss. Have a great day!
Love, Lori

The bronze statue of you dancing Zenyatta is absolutely gorgeous-it is like a mini of you. Would be honored to have that sitting on the mantle above my fireplace! So many of us fans I am sure are going to be sending our cards in to secure our chance to own the numbered 19 of the 100 made. Someone is going to be one lucky individual. Thanks for letting us know that Life Is Sweet is in the foaling barn-hope that all goes well and that she has her little sweetie foal next to her real soon. And wishing your Bernie a real Happy Birthday! You take care and hope you are doing fine and are getting plenty of goodies to eat!
Love & Blessings

Dear Zenyatta: What an absolutely meaningful gesture of Dottie to reserve #19 for the winner. She is UN BE LIEVE ABLE! If I were the Queen of England, I would knight her for always being so noble toward us, and she would become Dame Dottie. But since I’m not the Queen, I cannot. Hey–wait a minute, Zen, YOU are a queen. YOU can do that for all of us. Will you????!!!!!

Dear Zenyatta Happy Birthday to Bernie he is the MAN :) I love that the bronze is #19. That Dottie is Amazing. (Thank you Dottie for all you do.) It was a wild day here in Ohio I hope you didn’t have bad weather in Kentucky. I drove home in a rain storm. We have had landslides here so we all have to take other routes home. I go by Mountaineer Race Track every day now and I think of you. Mike rode there 2 years ago on Mind That Bird. It is a small track nothing like the ones you have raced on. I always yell your name as I go by :) I know that sounds crazy but I can’t help it. Well sweet girl I will mail my post card tomorrow. I love you big girl. Stay dry. Love, Hugs and Kisses from Shari in Ohio XXXOOO
2Dawn sorry about the last post. I was upset by what another fan said. I need to let things go. When I get on this site this is my relaxation. I have enough stress with my sick parents. I hope you are feeling GREAT. I am healing but sometimes I get so impatient. Long day tomorrow. I also might go to Kentucky this summer. Secretariat was my first love. I just ordered the new pendant made of his face. It is beautiful. Did you get the email from Secretariat.com? Let me know if you can. God Bless, Shari

I think Team Z and the Mosses,Mike etc.. should all get a case of Z beer and sit in Zennys stall with a box of kleenex and read the postcards after the contest is over. I can just imagine it– I would if I was there. Thanks, Dottie and a big thanks to John. Your all the best!!!!

Hi Zenyatta,
I am also an Aries, April l2, but I am a lot older than you. However, I am glad we share the same sign. I hope you have a very Happy Birthday. Maybe you’ll get a carrot cake.

It will be hard to announce a winner–I think everyone out there is already a winner because we all belong the Zenyatta Diary–and it ROCKS!!!!!

Smart Girl,
Statue #19 for 19 wins … how perfect!
……………..
I can hardly wait to see Photos of Life Is Sweet’s foal in the ‘Bloodhorse’ magazine. They had a double page (large) photo of Rachael Alexander’s mom and new half sister in the March 19th issue. So cute.

@Lynn
That’s a full sister, not a half.

Hi Z…could you put the rules about the postcard contest in tomorrow’s diary. I cannot find the original entry where you talked about the contest…so a review would be helpful. I know we send a card, but not sure about the guidelines.
Lynne

Every time I see the bronze I just marvel at it. Such a beautiful likeness of Zenyatta and that extended leg will always be the most defining feature of Nina’s creative mind on this classic work of art. My own postcard goes out tomorrow. Warning, you may need a magnifying glass to read the paragraph. I really squooshed it all in there. Never was one to be succinct. But let’s face it. We could all write a book as big as War and Peace about Zenny.
.
My own hooves, freshly pedicured, are crossed for Life is Sweet. I hope it all goes exceptionally well for her and the little one is as healthy and sound as can be. I still watch John’s video of the sleepy Life is Sweet. She probably won’t get much sleep now with a little foal around. Anyway, pins and needles as we wait for the news.
.
This is becoming a habit – wishing the Mosses and John (and Dottie and David) congratulations on another victory. As you’ve probably already read, Savion hit the wire first in the 3rd race at Santa Anita today. Special mention to Preshow who came in a solid third in the 6th race. (Preshow is not owned by the Mosses). A happy Barn 55 today. A happy me for them all!

Dear Zenyatta, the bronze of you dancing is gorgeous. This contest may turn out to be the biggest event in horse racing history. We shall see how many postcard are sent. Having watched a number of foalings, I am a bit nervous and can’t wait to hear how Life is Sweet is doing. And I’ll be a nervous Nellie over you for the next 10 months – it’s just my nature to worry. But as with all things Zenyatta, I fully expect everything to go perfectly. Much love, Karen
Paula Higgins
Happy Birthday Bernie!!! Good luck to all of you entering the contest for the bronze! Rest In Peace National Velvet/Elizabeth Taylor. Dottie let us know how Zenny is progressing after her tests.

My Sweet Lady Zenyatta, 1st I have to tell you my eyes light up & my heart beats faster everytime I saw you dance before a race. The Nina’s Statue of You is so meaningful for she captured you perfectly in that moment. I still can’t believe that You & Dottie are giving one away. That is so awesome! Especially #19! I told Bernadini “Happy Birthday” on his FaceBook page. He was so cute dressed in his birthday hat. He is a GREAT looking guy! Zenyatta, what did you get Bernadini for his birthday? I know he liked whatever you sent. Well, I’ve got to get my cards in the mail tomorrow. I love you, Zenyatta. I pray you have good night’s sleep & I pray that Life Is Sweet is doing good and has her beautiful baby soon. Best wishes to her! Can’t wait to see the photos. Good luck to everyone in this contest! Thanks Dottie for this wonderful post and for all the hard work you do to keep them going. Sending Hugs & Kisses From Alabama With Love, Amanda G.

I will have to start thinking of what to write on my postcard(s). I might have to write several just to cover everything YOU have meant to me! Thank you, Dottie, for not only coming up with the contest but claiming #19/100 as the prize for a lucky fan. I think we will all think of 19 as a lucky number from now on! :)
Hooves and fingers crossed for an easy foaling for Life is Sweet! Next year, you will BOTH have foals to brag about!
Susan from Fl
Happy Birthday B. Peace & Happiness to you Z!!

Beautifully sculpted bronze statue of an incredibly regal horse….and of course, the 19th one, which coincides with Zenyatta’s straight win record. Really, really nice.

@Shari Voltz
Have you purchased and read the book “Secretariat’s Meadow”, by Kate Chenery? You probably have, being a Secretariat fan – but, if by chance not – I encourage you to do so. There are two pictures in the book that brought me to tears – the one of an older Penny Chenery, looking out over the land that once was “The Meadow.”, and the other one – (even more so), was the last picture in the book – with an enlarged photo of Secretariat’s head, superimposed upon the backdrop picture of The Meadows, taken during the time of its reign – so, so poignant.

“Isn`t it enough of a good work, just being beautiful?” said Velvet, a young girl in love with a rogue horse, to her mother. “It isn`t enough, Velvet,” said Mrs. Brown. [Paraphrase] NATIONAL VELVET, by Enid Bagnold ( published, 1935). ~ Thank you to Paula Higgins, above, who honored the screen ‘Velvet Brown’ from the 1944 film, who knew that just being beautiful was never enough. ‘Elizabeth had ridden since she was 4. She willed herself to a growth-spurt, making her tall enough to win the role, and did her own riding and most of her own stunts.’ [Paraphrase] [See photos] http:www.reelclassics.com/Actresses/Liz_Taylor/liz.htm
