Good Morning Everyone,
This is such a fabulous, fabulous day! I am so excited for my dear friend, LIFE IS SWEET! She had a lovely bay COLT yesterday…March 23…by SMART STRIKE. Here she is with him when he is just several hours old. She is snuggling up and bonding with him in the stall. She will be a WONDERFUL MOTHER. Life is Sweet is such a loving horse. I know she will share all of her fabulous qualities with her new FOAL.
I’m experiencing so many new concepts in my life right now. I know my dear friend will be a wonderful MOTHERHOOD role model for ME! She is a first time MOM now like I will be next year. This makes it all so interesting!
Life is Sweet told me that foals normally stand up very soon after they are born. They may be a little wobbly at first when trying to stand up as it is all so new to them to use their legs after months of being inside the MOM. Once a bit more secure on their feet, the most important thing for them to do is nurse well. Under normal conditions and if all is going well, the baby will be up and moving around and nursing within an hour/hour and a half or so after birth. The first nursing experiences are so important as the milk contains colostrum which is essential for a newborn foal.
Life is Sweet is elated! Her baby is adorable and all has gone very well for both of them. I am so HAPPY and PROUD of her!
ALL IS ALSO GOING GREAT FOR ME! On my 28 day scan…all is A-OK. Everything looks fabulous! YIPPEE! The next scan will be at the 42 day stage of my pregnancy. It is a very important one. I’m feeling terrific, having fun, and so happy! Upon hearing all of this good news today, I think I’m going to celebrate! Treats of pears and bananas will make it all complete!
Have a great day!
With Love,
Hugs to all~(Especially to LIFE IS SWEET and her adorable Smart Strike colt!)

Val, for ‘Old Friends,’ wrote an early morning tribute to ‘The Wicked North,’ just now showing up on an e`mail. Her way with the horses comes through every word she writes on her Sunday notes. But this, on a Thursday, is a bulletin made especially poignant since they lost him after they had had so much fun with him barely four days ago. http://oldfriendsblog.wordpress.com/2011/03/25/thursday-march-24-2011/ ~ He was in all his glory, then, seemingly healthy and vital at 22, right to the end, and Val shares written ‘snapshots’ in her paragraphs.

So happy that Life is Sweet and her foal are doing well. What a cutie pie. If you have any “pull” with what they name him SWEET STRIKE sounds really good.

Hi Zenyatta. Wow, what a beautiful picture of Life is Sweet and her new baby. My, he sure is handsome and so big!! Just imagine, that will be you in another 9 months. Happy Birthday to your Bernie, too cute. I know every day with you is special, but what special plans do you all have for your April 1 birthday? I am sure it will involve your teams and BBFs having treats and more treats! Love you so, continue to thrive, eat well, enjoy those pears and bananas, have fun with your BBFs and send our love to Life is Sweet and her new baby colt. Love you, Angel in Disguise.

Perhaps we missed it in our absence, but are your paddock mates in foal?
Jeanne
SUCH A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE GUY, SO HAPPY FOR ALL THE CONNECTIONS

@The Kennedys
Back when Dottie first started this blog it was mentioned that information about Zenyatta’s paddock mates would have to be approved of by their owners.
I’m guessing since we haven’t heard anything about breeding plans, covering dates, in foal status the owners have elected to keep that information private.
nancyalis
Such a beautiful baby. I am glad he is healthy.

Zenyatta and Dottie…thanks so much for keeping us up to date on LIS (she is one of my favorite girls, along with Z, of course!) And, great news on the Ultrasound; We are all keeping fingers and hooves crossed for a happy, healthy baby Z!

Dearest Zenyatta–The pictures of Life is Sweet with her newborn foal are adorable! Thanks so much for getting them for us! And we are all so happy about your 28-day scan—congratulations! We are excited about the contest too. I want to remind everyone that you said that we can “send more than one card”— I think the perfect number to send would be twenty, one for each of your races, because, dear Z, even though you maybe didn’t technically “win” race twenty, you were absolutely spectacular, and I’m sure you would have won if you hadn’t had to put on the brakes a little to get room to run—the traffic didn’t allow you to just go for it.
Of course the number nineteen is special too. I made up lyrics to the tune of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” in honor of your nineteen straight wins. I hope you enjoy them. Here goes:
Take me out to Zenyatta,
Take me out to the track!
Let’s watch her run and visit her stall,
I don’t care if I never get back!
We’ll root, root, root for Zenyatta,
The most marvelous horse of them all,
For it’s NINE—TEEN WINS IN A ROW
For Zen—ya—tta!!!!
I want to wish good luck to everyone for the contest. For my part, I too, as Kathryn Cogswell put it, am nearing my seventh decade and have “enough mileage and material possessions,” so I intend to send my entries in, as she suggested, for Shari Voltz and her students. Shari, of course, did NOT ask for this, but it would be a pleasure for me to “pass it forward,” and I still get the thrill of participating in your contest, dear Z.
Again, good luck to everyone, and special thanks to you and your connections, dear Z, for being so thoughtful and generous. Sweet dreams, Z. Yours, Trina

Can someone please tell me the address to send something to Zenyatta to? I saw 2 different ones for Lanes End in KY and not sure which to use. Thanks!
