Good Morning,
All of you are SO SWEET! Thank you so much for the warm wishes on my 28 Day Scan Results. I’m doing great and TRULY APPRECIATE all of your kind comments. The next big date is the 42 day scan. As Dottie has mentioned earlier, it is a very important one. After this, if all is A-OK, the pregnancy is considered to be ‘pretty secure’ and well on its way. HOOVES CROSSED, for sure!
This morning, John sent this photo to ME! He wanted ME to know that my friends at BARN 55 are also sending their regards. Here’s ZARDANA sending her greetings to ME! I’d know that TREE anywhere. I’ve stood there for zillions of hours over the last 4 years. It is great to see her again and to keep in touch with my dear friends at the barn.
The postcards are starting to arrive for the contest. I think the postal service in Arcadia really LOVES ME! They have been fabulous about everything. When Dottie was there the other day, a man in line was wearing a Zenyatta Hat. He told her he’d had offers from people wanting to BUY it from him. This is TOO CUTE!
I’m hearing you are all very thoughtful and additionally rather clever in your responses on the postcards. I’m also delighted that you like the idea of BRONZE #19 for the winner! I really thought that particular number would be incredibly significant! Thank you for feeling the same way!
Several have asked for the rules of the contest again. They are in Diary #205 in detail. If you click on the top part of the web-site that says NEWS, it will take you to a list of the prior posts. Just in case you need the information again, the mailing address is in Diary #209.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
Life Is Sweet’s foal…isn’t HE a DOLL! I’m so glad her owners let me introduce him to you yesterday. I’m hearing she is really having a wonderful time with him and he is a very active and friendly colt! It is so much fun to follow all of this activity at the farm. Plus, I’m learning so much. I gather that he will be totally with his MOM and nursing for approximately the next 4-6 months. She will teach him so many great things. He will even learn to ‘eat the grass and graze’ from her! I know Life Is Sweet will be great at this. I grazed next to her for countless afternoons at BARN 55. In addition to being a very accomplished athlete, she’s a ‘great grazer’.
Can you imagine ME teaching my foal to graze? Not to sound too bold, but I’m also really TERRIFIC at this and very experienced. My confidence is really high in relation to this aspect of becoming a MOM. I’ve got ‘teaching a little foal to graze’ down PAT. It will be a SLAM DUNK for ME! (Just had to say it…as we are in the midst of March Madness.)
Speaking of that, the games are moving right along. They are playing the SWEET SIXTEEN rounds now. My San Diego State gave it a good college try (no pun intended)…but lost last night. They did very well…just came up a few points short. Kentucky plays tonight. The winners of these games now will go forward to participate in the ELITE EIGHT Rounds. It is getting very exciting!
Tomorrow, there are some more 3 year old prep races for the Kentucky Derby and the Dubai Carnival of Racing takes place early in the morning our time! My Mikie is over there riding a couple horses from California. I’m sending him a BIG HIGH HOOF for GOOD LUCK!
Wow! This being a SPORTS FAN IS SO MUCH FUN!
Enjoy your day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(YEAH…I smell some bananas and pears coming MY WAY!)

Zenny….Zardana is looking for you and Life is Sweet. You have such great mare friends. Life is Sweet’s foal is a very handsome fellow. The pictures of mom and foal are so beautiful. Happy to hear your 28 day ultrasound looked great! My poster of you and S just looks great I hung it in my family room next to John Henry, Cigar and Alysheba. The next one I hang will be of you and your foal!

@audreyc – Thank you for the beautiful story of the rescued mare and her baby. And from one horse lover to another, thank you for being one of those selfless volunteers who give so much of their time to our equine friends who need it most.
@Amanda Gilliland – Your story touched me deeply. I was about the same age as you when my brother Duane left for Vietnam. He knew that I had always wanted a horse, so just days before leaving, he purchased a lovely little bay filly for me. Now, we lived in a very small town (two streets) in the country. We had a large yard, but no barn and no pasture. He called me out of the house to give me my hearts desire as his going away present. We brushed and combed her until she shined like a new penny before we called my mother outside. Surprise! Look what we had and the next question, where were we going to keep her. My parents were wonderful. After a couple of days in our yard and under strick instructions to keep my horse out of my mother’s flowers, they arranged with a friend to board her until we could come up with an option. My father called the local electric company that owned a piece of property across the street from our home and they would allow us to keep my horse there as long as my father put the fence up. They gave us some straight rolled wire they had and my father worked for days, getting everything ready. We ordered a saddle from Montgomery Ward, although most of the time I preferred bareback. Like your wonderful Dale, Cinder was my love and best friend growing up. She was everything I could imagine and so much more. My brother (and hero) came back to me, how I wish yours had been able to return to you. We lived our lives with a very special bond. I loved him more than words can say. I lost him when he was 50 years old to a heart attack. Like you, I often think back to that special day, with my wonderful brother and my beautiful Cinder, a dream come true.

Wow, you are busy. I glad life is sweet. I sent my postcard in. What you mean to everyone is evident by the postings on this site. We all care about you.
By the way, does anyone have a recipe for Guiness Chocolate Cake?

@Dawn Conrad and Amanda Gilliland: Thank you for sharing your personal experiences, so in tune with each other– two very moving posts of powerful love for a brother and love for a horse.

To Audrey C: Thank you for the redemptive story about the PMU draft horse and her filly. Such a strange phenomenon–immobilized pregnant for years to provide birth control pills for human women–we have many reparations to make to those who have sacrificed for our freedom from our bodies’ natural rhythms.
Zenyatta lovely one–Of course you have very long legs but I’ve never seen you struggle to put your head down to the grass. Lucky grass to feel your warm breath on their leaves. I bet your breath makes the leaves of grass grow rich and abundant.
Your foal will have no trouble learning how to be an herbivore with a grazer such as yourself as mum.

Zenyatta..glad you are doing well I was just listening to this video of you. It makes me cry it has so much meaning. I sent out my post cards, I hope you like it.

@Audrey C – thank you for your uplifiting story!
@Kitei – thanks for reminding me of Rachel Day! Here are pic. and videos:
http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/throughthelens/archive/2011/03/25/rachel-alexandra-fan-day.aspx and more pic of fans on Stonestreet FB page! What a great opportunity, especially since Rachel didn’t get a good-bye party… and yes, Stonesreet is a much smaller farm so it was manageable. We are at least fortunate to be showered with all those wonderful pic. and videos of our Zenny!

Has anyone named Life is Sweet’s foal? May I suggest Toot Sweet? The actual French phrase is tout de suite, meaning “right away, immediately”

L.S.- I reread the article you linked and it still sounds as though Lane’s End hope to come up with a plan to allow people to visit Z, in spite of the mention of the possibility of disease transmission. MAybe they will figure out solutions (?): http://www.p-wholesale.com/upimg/10/460a2/disposable-non-woven-isolation-gown-ke-112a-786.jpg

Dear Queen Momma Zenyatta –
.
I love all things “Z”, including Zardana and Zasu. Can’t wait for the “Z” pins to be finalized – so much work goes into such an enterprise. Thanks to all your connections for being responsive to the fan base and our insatiable appetite.
.
If seeing you, Zenyatta Horse of a Lifetime, through pictures, videos and webcams only, to assure your complete safety, then it is a small price to pay. I know in my heart that at some point, maybe sooner than we think, Zenyatta will be free of Mommiehood for a year or two, and my thought is that the Mosses will position our dear Lady Z in such a way as to receive visitors. And we’ll all be there!!
.
Thanks so much to the creative and generous contributors here for the links to articles, pictures, videos. I read and view every one, and am enriched mightily by each. Thanks also for the enlightenment provided by those very knowledgeable contributors and especially by those who share their personal stories that inspire and that take us into their private world for our own betterment.
.
Happy Day to you, PQ, Alyss, Sea Gull, LIS, Zardana and all the gang. See you at Sunday Pear Brunch. Bring bananas to share.

You’re a well-rounded mare, Zenny, very interested in many things. You will be a great mommy like Life Is Sweet. I bet you passed on some of your grazing skills to her….which she is sharing with her colt…Have a good day, Queen!

Those beautiful stories–and to think that they are true! Thank you for sharing a part of yourselves that no doubt have helped you to become who you are today. Sigh–now I must go for the Kleenix.

Astrid: Thought I`d seen them all . .. “I won`t tell if you won`t.” [He reminds me of Don Robinson & my childhood horseman friend, Mr. Virgil Cress; they just don`t make them any better.] Thank you so much for this great little guy & ‘uncles’. Kc.
