Good Morning,
All of you are SO SWEET! Thank you so much for the warm wishes on my 28 Day Scan Results. I’m doing great and TRULY APPRECIATE all of your kind comments. The next big date is the 42 day scan. As Dottie has mentioned earlier, it is a very important one. After this, if all is A-OK, the pregnancy is considered to be ‘pretty secure’ and well on its way. HOOVES CROSSED, for sure!
This morning, John sent this photo to ME! He wanted ME to know that my friends at BARN 55 are also sending their regards. Here’s ZARDANA sending her greetings to ME! I’d know that TREE anywhere. I’ve stood there for zillions of hours over the last 4 years. It is great to see her again and to keep in touch with my dear friends at the barn.
The postcards are starting to arrive for the contest. I think the postal service in Arcadia really LOVES ME! They have been fabulous about everything. When Dottie was there the other day, a man in line was wearing a Zenyatta Hat. He told her he’d had offers from people wanting to BUY it from him. This is TOO CUTE!
I’m hearing you are all very thoughtful and additionally rather clever in your responses on the postcards. I’m also delighted that you like the idea of BRONZE #19 for the winner! I really thought that particular number would be incredibly significant! Thank you for feeling the same way!
Several have asked for the rules of the contest again. They are in Diary #205 in detail. If you click on the top part of the web-site that says NEWS, it will take you to a list of the prior posts. Just in case you need the information again, the mailing address is in Diary #209.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
Life Is Sweet’s foal…isn’t HE a DOLL! I’m so glad her owners let me introduce him to you yesterday. I’m hearing she is really having a wonderful time with him and he is a very active and friendly colt! It is so much fun to follow all of this activity at the farm. Plus, I’m learning so much. I gather that he will be totally with his MOM and nursing for approximately the next 4-6 months. She will teach him so many great things. He will even learn to ‘eat the grass and graze’ from her! I know Life Is Sweet will be great at this. I grazed next to her for countless afternoons at BARN 55. In addition to being a very accomplished athlete, she’s a ‘great grazer’.
Can you imagine ME teaching my foal to graze? Not to sound too bold, but I’m also really TERRIFIC at this and very experienced. My confidence is really high in relation to this aspect of becoming a MOM. I’ve got ‘teaching a little foal to graze’ down PAT. It will be a SLAM DUNK for ME! (Just had to say it…as we are in the midst of March Madness.)
Speaking of that, the games are moving right along. They are playing the SWEET SIXTEEN rounds now. My San Diego State gave it a good college try (no pun intended)…but lost last night. They did very well…just came up a few points short. Kentucky plays tonight. The winners of these games now will go forward to participate in the ELITE EIGHT Rounds. It is getting very exciting!
Tomorrow, there are some more 3 year old prep races for the Kentucky Derby and the Dubai Carnival of Racing takes place early in the morning our time! My Mikie is over there riding a couple horses from California. I’m sending him a BIG HIGH HOOF for GOOD LUCK!
Wow! This being a SPORTS FAN IS SO MUCH FUN!
Enjoy your day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(YEAH…I smell some bananas and pears coming MY WAY!)

Hi All: I saw the Louisiana Derby too. Thanks for letting us know about Mucho Macho Man’s shoe. Did you know that he is only 2 years old! His Birthday is June 15th. I hope he is alright because he is so talented and young and still has a lot of good racing years ahead of him. Did the news indicate that he will be alright to run in the Ky Derby? Also since he is only 2 yrs old can he enter in the 2012 Ky Derby?

It’s been a while – and life has changed. But, tonight, I just had to go again to watch the videos of Zenyatta’s two Breeder’s Cup Classic races – 2009, 2010. 2009 was spectacular, and Z’s win was awesome, but goodness – just go back again and watch 2010….absolutely, positively surreal. Zenyatta’s one defeat was her finest. They needed an aerial view to show all horses, as Z was that far back. I watched it then, but reviewing it again, now, after so many months, made an even greater impression. I can’t imagine any other race, in which a horse was so very far behind, struggling with mud in her face, ran into mucho traffic, and came to the outside , to almost win, by a nose, the way she did. Truly, truly surreal. What an incredible mare! Love you Z, love the fact that these posts incorporate a whole lot of things. You are an inspiration, on so many levels, to so many people….Thank you again, Dottie – for being her voice, and allowing this forum.

Has anyone heard any upates on Mineshaft since his colic surgery? We hope all is well!
Thanks for the lovely update
Trina Nagele
@Patricia Emery– I found this good news about Mineshaft at Thoroughbred Times:
“Mineshaft recovering from colic surgery – Lane’s End said Mineshaft, the 2003 Horse of the Year and sire of Triple Crown candidate Dialed In, is expected to make a full recovery from colic surgery performed on Thursday night.”

Good news at Thoroughbred Times about Mucho Macho Man’s condition after losing a shoe: “He’s going to be sore a little bit, he’s got a little of the hoof scratched up and dinged, but all that aside he came out of it really, really well. He’s not very tired; he’s an incredible athlete,” Hatzikoutelis [co-owner] said. “It was stinging him running without a shoe, but he fought through it. Obviously, we’re disappointed because we thought he was the best horse in the race, but we certainly cannot be disappointed with his effort.
“There is absolutely no heat anywhere, there are no issues. The hoof injury is more superficial, and the team has done a great job in prepping it, cleaning it up, and treating it. …He’ll take it easy for the next few days, you know walk around and relax, and the plan is we ship back to Gulfstream [Park] on Tuesday. He looks great, he was very lively this morning.”
They still have the Kentucky Derby in mind for him.
@Linda in NJ–For eligibilty in races, all thoroughbreds are considered to have their birthday on January 1. Thus Mucho Macho Man is considered to be a three-year-old already even though he was born June 15. This year will be his only shot at the Kentucky Derby.

Has anyone heard how Always A Princess is doing?
Nancy
Such wonderful, touching stories get told in these diary entries. It’s so nice to be able to be with other horse lovers. Thank you Zenyatta, for giving us this opportunity to be together.

@ Lisa g: This short update appeared in the DRF article about Zardana’s retirement. Arnold Zetcher is the owner of both Zardana and Always a Princess. He sounds like a “prince” to keep Always a Princess in SoCal to recuperate fully rather than rushing her to Kentucky to be bred. The boys will wait for her…
“Zetcher also owns Always a Princess, the winner of two stakes earlier this year who suffered a sesamoid injury in the stretch of the Grade 1 Santa Margarita Stakes on March 12.
Always a Princess later underwent successful surgery to stabilize the injury. Zetcher said Sunday that she will not be bred this year and will remain in California through the spring before being sent to Kentucky.
Trained by Bob Baffert, Always a Princess won 5 of 10 starts and $516,048.”

Hey, Zenyatta, it’s great that you keep up with your friends from barn 55. I hope Life is Sweeet’s foal is doing well. You can take lessons from your buddies on how to raise your own foal once it’s born. I have every intention of entering your contest and competing for the bronze. I have all the information I need now. One of your teams, Kentucky, is doing really well right now. I am keeping up with horse races as best I can but there are so many of them. Mike Smith was in a couple of Dubai races and I hope he did well.
