Good Morning,
Dottie and John thought this would be fun to share with you. Here are Giacomo’s Jockey Club papers. The reason these are REALLY SPECIAL is the 2nd line on the back of his papers have the following information recorded in his OFFICIAL RECORD:
Date Won: 5/7/05
Net Value to Winner: 1,639,600
Type of Race: STAKE
Distance: 1 1/4
Name of Stake or Handicap: “THE KENTUCKY DERBY” Grade 1
Name of Track: Churchill Downs
Racing Secretary or By: Doug Bredar
Now this is truly TOO CUTE! The Kentucky Derby…WOW!
On the front, you see several markings and notes added to his papers. In the comments and responses, many of you have asked what these things mean. Basically, they pertain to health requirements being noted when a horse travels to various states. Giacomo ran in California, Kentucky, Maryland and NY. The NYRA (New York Racing Association) put their tag / stamp at the top of the papers. California usually places theirs by the marking details. Different states have different procedures and requirements and in our sport all of these details must be met at all times. It is what is best for ALL!
Since it is that time of year, and Derby Fever is in the air, MY TEAM thought this would be FUN for you to see. Not many papers have this information recorded on them! YEAH, GIACOMO!
Have a special day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Hey, ZenDot: If there are any festivities celebrating Z’s birthday Friday, could we get a picture or best of all, a video? Bet everyone on this site and Z’s Facebook page would really love that.

I remember Giacamo AND Mike. What a Derby! All good horse information, we love it. Mike was also very affectionate to Giacamo….. guess that is just the kind of guy Mike is with the special ones. No matter what, I feel good knowing that the Mosses watch over you now and in your future.

I have fond memories of Giacomo and became a Shirreff’s fan forever. Sunrise at Pimlico in ’05, John Shirreffs was the ONLY trainer to bring his horse along the rail after his gallop so that all the fans could see him. I have some wonderful pictures, but the memory of this unusual generosity towards the fans has always stuck with me. It’s such a shame that other trainers just don’t get it.

Dear Queen Zenyatta – Thanks for showing us Giacamo’s Jockey Papers and the entry for his famous Kentucky Derby win. It was a doozie. John looked so happy, as did everyone else. Two days to your birthday, big girl. Are you getting excited about your party with the girls? ~~ HH

DEAREST ZENYATTA
You are AMAZING and you never stop…sooo much information comes thru you to us who love you so much. He is quite the horse I’m told, until I saw you at the track in 2008 at Santa Anita running against the girls in the Breeders Cup I never really knew much about race horses…now these few years later I am still learning out of LOVE for you.
Thank you for being GREAT AT EVERYTHING YOU DO MY CHAMPION IN THE HORSE WORLD.
ZENYATTA I LOVE YOU

Hey Zenyatta, what Kentucky Derby Contender are you going to cheer for? I think i like Uncle Mo, The Factor, and Dialed In best. :) I wish you would have run in the Kentucky Derby, you would have won the Triple Crown :D

Very cool.

Thanks for the all this great information. I am learning so much about horses from reading this. I know a little about dogs having puppies, but nothing about horses having foals! I wish Queen Z the very best and a foal next year!! She will be a wonderful mother!

Hi Zenny, I remember Giacomo well. He’s a beauty, like you. Thanks to you and Dottie for sharing his papers!
I hope you have fun celebrating your birthday on Friday!

The company that gave a Thoroughbred away every year sold pipe tobacco. I used to go buy the best smelling ones for my father to smoke and I entered names in the contest. My uncle entered every year also. We both won a set of pictures of famous Thoroughbreds the same year. The winning name was Dinner Topic. I entered the name Hot Dinner and my uncle entered Dinner Bouquet. Dinner Topic did not race but she did have foals. She was dam of stakes winner Cakebread, stakes placed Gungadindin who had 101 starts and Blue Chippee who had 70 starts and was dam of stakes winner Blue Quadrant.

Since your birthday is April 1, that means that your mom didn’t get infoal until May, right? We are all so sad here, but I just know that it will all work out and you will have a beautiful foal next year! Just a little later than we all thought.
I remember when Giacomo won the Derby because it was the same day my first grandchild was born!!! It is written in her little book that the day she was born Giacomo won the Kentucky Derby! A big day for all of us

Hi Zenny Sweetie ~ I hope you are feeling good today!
I have a story about GIACOMO!!! I went to Kentucky for the first time in my life to visit the Kentucky Horse Park and see John Henry at the Hall of Champions! I went to Keeneland track to watch the Preakness on their big screens and hoped he would win. So he and I have a tiny, tiny connection LOL ;-)
HUGS & KISSES Beautiful Girl! XOXO
p.s. I sent my card to Your John’s address yesterday; I personally handed it to the mailman who was picking up the mail!! Oh, I hope that’s a good omen for me ;-)

I saw Tiago at Santa Anita and he was a good looker. Someday I hope to visit Giacomo, Curlin, Bernie, Kentucky Horse Park and my favorite Funny Cide.

Oh, Zenyatta! I remember that Derby race well. Little did I know that your John was the trainer and YOU would steal my heart a few years later. You are so generous to share these little things with us. Pretty soon we will be experts in horseracing or darn close to it! :-)
It was good to get a post from you today.
Dottie, just seeing these words comforted all of us because we were so concerned with yesterday’s news. But our Queen has a birthday coming up and another date with her Bernie. Life is GOOD!

Dear Zenyatta,
Great info on Giacomo. I live on the IL/WI border. First time I went into our very small feed store guess whose picture I saw hanging in the middle of the wall? Yup! Giacomo winning the Derby! Seems he was an inspiration too. The owner of the store said she was very depressed over her divorce and went to the Derby with a friend even though she didn’t know anything about racing. She said she could swear Giacomo looked directly at her when they went near the horses and ‘told’ her he was going to win. It was her first and only bet EVER. She said the memory pulled her through some difficult days. For me, it’s just fun to see such a great picture of a great horse when I pick up dog food and bird seed. Whoever said we had Team-G before Team-Z was absolutely right.
Thanks for always sharing. Love and Hugs,
SuzanneG

Thanks for sharing your website with your buddies. Zenny, you are simply kind hearted and generous. I <3 you so much and I wish you all the best now and in the future. I will keep on praying for the best time for you to be in foal. Take care.

Thanks for sharin! I love learning little things that not everyone knows!

Hi, Zenny,
Yea, Giacomo is right! He’s a real beauty, too, with his gorgeous grey/roan color and he has lots of dapples like yours, too! I looked up some info on him and since I’m trying to learn more about tb pedigree analysis, was excited to learn he and his half-brother, Tiago, both standing at stud, are advertised as “outcross” matches for Mr. Prospector/Northern Dancer mares! I hope Dottie will talk about some of these issues sometime, since I know she is so knowledgeable about these things. I enjoy our little “lessons” on important aspects about the sport.
Was thinking about the recent turn of events, and I’m so sorry, but also was thinking that if the next try produces your foal, their birthday could very well be very close to yours!!! You were just barely 2+ months off the track last time….maybe this time you will be more relaxed and rested up! HOOVES crossed! Hugs. Your friend, Ann Maree

Morning Queen Z,
Thanks for more education about your fellow buddies. I learn so much each time I read the posts and go to the videos. I loved to watch the horses in the pastures. GIOCOMO looked like he had a personality as he ran and played. I hope you are doing the same thing. Take care sweet lady.

Gallant Man and the Shoe lost the 1957 KY Derby to Iron Liege. Bold Ruler and Round Table were also in that race.
Love you, Z!
