Happy Saturday Everyone!
Springtime is in the air and everything is getting so busy. It is a very exciting time in Lexington now as Keeneland opened yesterday for their race meet. I never ran at this race track, but my dear Barn 55 Friend, HARMONIOUS, won the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Race here last fall. It is a very special time and everyone LOVES to go RACING in this town!
Today, Kentucky Derby Preps are taking place in New York, Illinois, and California. My friend, MR. COMMONS, is running in the Santa Anita Derby this afternoon. His stall was just 3 down from mine when I was at Barn 55…so I’m wishing him all the best! HOOVES CROSSED…for sure!
We also have the update for our contest! Isabelle and Cheva, 2 of my very special friends, drew the names out of the bucket for us! As you can see in the photo above, they are in the barn office at Hollywood Park. Oh, there are lots of photos of ME all around. Now this is TOO CUTE! The bucket we used for this drawing is on the desk. All 64 of the cards from Wednesday’s winners were placed in this bucket, mixed up again and again…and the drawing began!

@S (in san diego): Congrats on your daughter’s engagement! Hopefully you can share the news with everyone soon!
@Margaret – thanks for the info on mares and foaling, I was wondering why Z hadn’t been bred back to Bernie yet.
Sweet dreams to all, especially you Zenyatta!

I’v made a theme song for Zenny. It is written to the tune of a horse is a horse (Mr. Ed)
A horse is a horse
of course of course
but Zenny’s the one
that will beat the
racecourse…
”ZENYATTA”

Hey Lady Z, have you ever notice that ‘your Bernie’ has the same fire in his eyes that his daddy (AP Indy) and his grandfather (Seattle Slew) has? Just noticed the burning embers (eyes) when looking thru some of AP’s pics. Isn’t that neat!!! :) :)

Congratulatiosn to all 32 finalists!

Good morning Zenyatta Please be careful today we are suppose to get some storms. I know everyone at LE will take good care of YOU and ALL the horses. The sun is out for now in East Liverpool and we all have on our walking shorts YEA :) The children and I send all of our love your way. Hugs and Kisses from Shari and Homeroom 215 XXXOOO
@ Trina YOU ARE THE WOMAN!!! The farthest I ever ran was a 13 miler. My best time in a 5K was 21:21 came in first in my age group. I ran the Pittsburgh Great Race and finished 30th out of 185 females in my age group and 412th out of 2229 all females. They have my time as 8:17 pace finished 51:31 over all time. Not to bad for an old lady. I ran these in my forties and I am now fifty. I think dog rescue ia Awesome. We saved our Doberman. She was not in good condition. Take care and have a good day sweetie :)
LauraJ
@J Smith, the Breeders’ Cup is at Churchill again this year.
LauraJ
@Shari Volz, I have Dobermans–three of them. They are awesome dogs, aren’t they? Mine are all rescues too. I’ve got two black ones and an albino.

Hi Zenyatta. What an exciting time for the above 32 contestants – one of them will be so lucky to get your #19 beautiful bronze statute. It is just gorgeous. Love you Zenyatta, Mr. Commons did good!!! What an upsetting weekend though. I just got my Uncle Mo t-shirt and hat to wear. I cried. But as long as he is not hurt and will come back to run in the Kentucky Derby. Love you Zenyatta, enjoy your spring weather, eat well, and have loads of fun with your BBFs. Love you, Angel in Disguise.

@LauraJ Yes my Miesha is so smart. She has floppy ears but a docked tail. The vet said he thinks they used a rubber band for her tail. She was so full of worms. She has a mass in her stomach from being kicked. She has a really nice life now. She is our little girl and we love her so much. She just has a lot of health issues but that is ok. She is my Misha Girl ;) Tell me more about your babies.
Shari Voltz
@ OH I mean Miesha Girl :)

Yeah Michelle Cross, my sister-in-law, making it to top 32!!!!!!!!! Good Luck in the Sweet Sixteen!

Seems to me that Zenyatta needs something. Just a hunch. Might be worth the investment to have a qualified horse whisperer “talk” to her before her next visit to the breeding shed. Good luck wishes to all still in the “race” for the Sweet Sixteen.

Miss hearing about Z and how and what she is doing. Was looking forward to more photos and maybe even a video.
Hooves very crossed for all of the above.
mars
my interpretation was that her dear “whisperers” visited her for her birthday party. Just am wondering what is next. Most likely there is a lot of “pondering” going on.

Hi Zenny Queen of my Heart!
I was at SA on Saturday cheering for Mr.Commons :-(
I was also hoping to see the Mosses silks in the winner’s circle, but that didn’t happen either.
I still see a facebook friend’s name on this list. Best of luck to Helen Solomon! I took her to visit you during one of my many, many visits to Barn 55 :-)
HUGS & KISSES XOXOXOXOXOXO

Also just waiting to hear any plans for your next meeting with Bernardini. Hugs & Kisses to you and all your team

Hello Zeny! I have been thinking and praying for you and all the farms with the big storms in your area this weekend. Hope you and everyone are safe. There are more storms and tornadoes in neighboring states. God be with all of you. Hugs, Marilu

Zenyatta, I visited the Lanes End website and your new home looks wonderful. Glad that Dottie’s son works there, so she can be up-to-the-minute Zenyatta. Relax and enjoy that Kentucky bluegrass and fresh air. You deserve the best.

While we’re waiting for a new post, maybe some of you haven’t seen these remarks about Z’s queenly position with her paddock gal pals. For an article from Feb. 4 called “Seeing Shades of Zenyattta in Her Half-Sister,” Glenye Cain Oakford interviewed Don Robinson, the owner of Winter Quarter Farm, where Zenyatta and her now two-year-old half-sister by Bernardini, Eblouissante, were both foaled. Robinson, reminiscing of Eblouissant with the other yearlings, said “she was definitely the dominant one, but in a kind way,” and then added, “I watched Zenyatta at Lane’s End several weeks ago when they first introduced her to the other maidens, and it’s the same thing. It’s not a kick-your-ass kind of dominance, but it’s like they just knew who the boss was.” Happy paddock days to the Queen! http://www.ntra.com/content/display/news/NDczNDc=

Good news for Uncle Mo posted at Blood-Horse Monday, April 11, 2011 1:56 PM: A day after Uncle Mo finished third as the overwhelming favorite in the Resorts World New York Casino Wood Memorial (gr. I) at Aqueduct, trainer Todd Pletcher said the colt grabbed a quarter in the race, but that it was a minor issue and would not likely affect his Triple Crown plans.
“Uncle Mo is physically sound today,” said Pletcher in a statement released April 10. “He walked the shedrow this morning. He did grab his quarter, about the size of a nickel, at the start of the race but it is very minor and insignificant. It will heal quickly and shouldn’t be an issue.”

Thank you Trina, had not seen this from Mr. Robinson.

Dear Margaret:
Just read your post to me dated 4/10/11. Yes, Secretariat did lose the Wood (he had an abscess in his mouth I think) and he did go on to win the Triple Crown. The good news according to Bloodhorse this morning is that Uncle Mo came out of the Wood “OK”. He should still be in the Run for the Roses. Judy B.

Thanks for the post. Trina
