Good Morning,
As many of you know, last Sunday Santa Anita did such a fabulous thing! They worked with The City of Hope to get people WALKING and FUNDRAISING for Cancer Research! A large crowd of people showed up to participate…including my wonderful friends from the Zenyatta Lounge. They made large signs as you can see in the above photo to help promote the event!
Dottie and John also attended…John with camera in hand…to get some photos for you. Everyone gathered in the paddock right after the last race. The walk proceeded through the tunnel to the racetrack. This is just what I would do when I raced.
Then the fans walked on the track to the top of the stretch where Santa Anita placed the starting gate. This way all of the fans could walk through the gate and experience things just like I would before a race. After this, the fans walked back down the stretch to the WINNERS’ CIRCLE.
It was really a wonderful way to not only fund raise but also to share the different aspects of the race track that fans observe…but never get to experience. Several people commented to Dottie and John that they were ‘now in the paddock’ instead of watching from outside…and then they actually ‘walked on the track’ and ‘through the starting gate’. It was great FUN for ALL….and very importantly FOR A WONDERFUL CAUSE!
Let’s hope that some day…some how…events like this DO FIND A WAY TO BEAT CANCER!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~

@Kathy B – Your pictures of the event were wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing them, as well as the story of your beautiful mother. She sounds like an amazing women. I am sure she was walking with you on Sunday, just as she does everyday of your life.
@To all of you who have been touched by cancer either personally or through family and friends, you have my love, thoughts, prayers and support.

Very nice pics of the wonderful cancer fundraiser. Sounds like it was interesting and fun for all those involved, a kind of once in a lifetime experience, so exciting. Let’s hope that someday, the dreaded disease can be irradicated so that no one ever suffers from it again. You keep on shining Zenyatta, you are the brightest star! Love & Blessings

@Kirren, Thank you. I loved the video. I hope to see our Z in person some day. I live in MA. Now I wish I had flown out to CA to see her run!! I am afraid I will never see her…I just might have to buy that Bronze Statue…Great story about the Beating Cancer walk at Santa Anita.

How is our Queen Zenyatta? I haven’t heard about her in a while. I hope she is doing great. I’m starting to worry.

As a Five year Cancer Survivor – Thank you for sharing the cancer walk at the track.

@Leslie…Dottie and Ann said this weekend her breeding plans would be kept private until the farm (LE) gives the OK to release the info. The general thinking is she will be well along this time (maybe at the 45 day mark) before we get official word. It’s probably the best approach …Zen deserves some privacy.

Dear Zenyatta Hi sweet girl. I hope you had some dry weather today. I just got in from a walk with my dogs. We have had a little break from the rain. I loved the pictures of the walk for cancer research. This is a subject very close to me. I am a BIG Breast Cancer person. I have a lot of pink and my car has the Breast Cancer plates that part of the money goes to research. I ran the Breast Cancer run in Pittsburgh and boy was that an emotional day for me. I have had two breast surgeries. I was lucky in the fact that I did not have to have chemo or radiation. My mamo had an abnormal reading and they had to go in and take some of the tissue out. Well three months later I had to have more tissue taken out. Then I was checked every 3 months and then every 6 and now I am back to once a year. I will never be the same again. When it is time for my mamo I get so nervous and afraid of the phone call. But I thank God that I am alright now. My husband also has had cancer and my dad has lung cancer. You just don’t realize how many people are affected by this disease. I wish our little race track did something like Santa Anita. I would love to walk on it and see what it feel like to go through the starting gate. Thank Dottie for all the pictures and telling us about the walk. Tomorrow Zenyatta we are having an assembly for the children and the teachers are putting on a dance skit. Today at practice I was thinking I am dancing like the Queen. The children will get such a kick out of this. It is to get them excited for the Ohio Achievement Test after Easter. Well sweet girl I have really gone on and on. I love to write to you it helps me so. I hope you have a good night and I pray not to much rain for our sweet girl and her pals. I love you Zenyatta and feel lucky to be apart of this site. Hugs and Kisses from Shari :)
@Hi Dawn hope you are having a good week. Happy Easter :)

Hi Zenyatta. First let me congratulate El Vino – what a great performance and he did bow in the winner’s circle – a tribute to you, of course. Pictures of the On Track to Beat Cancer Walk is making me cry. I would have loved to be there with everyone – what a wonderful idea to help cancer research. You are all truly blessed for all that you do and so fitting, that quite a few of the attendees had your “colors” on. Well deserved!!! Love you so, eat well, stay healthy, keep those pears and bananas coming and have loads of fun with your BBFs. I am sure the good Lord will see fit that you have a very healthy baby in the near future. We are all praying. Love you, Angel in Disguise.

Thanks Z for all you and your wonderful people do. I lost my Dad to cancer late last year and unfortunately I’m sure, I’ll lose more loved ones to it till we can find a cure. Love to all at Team Zenyatta!

Hi Zenny. You and Team Z are such inspirations. Wouldn’t it be great if tracks that don’t have something like this, could all do it about the same time every year? Then we could have an Across-The-Nation walk. I’ll have to go to the Tampa Bay Downs website to see if they do anything like this. My Dad, who passed away April 1st, was able to beat prostate cancer in 2002, but only lasted 2 years with colon cancer. He really fought a great fight but I think with his bad heart and the chemo, it just got to be too much. As others have said, almost everyone seems to have been touched by cancer in some way and if you haven’t, count yourself blessed. And if you are going through it now, keep your head and your spirits up, that’s one of the best medicines. A big YAY to all the survivors, you are to be commended for your faith and strong spirits.
Enjoy being a horse with your BBF’s Zenny and know that you are forever loved by thousands.
Good luck still, to the Elite Eight!
Lotsa love to all.

Z and her team Z have done a great job channeling the enthusiasm for Z into great causes. You deserve all the good things coming to you.

Hi Zenny: Thanks for sharing the news of this event. I saw this advertised on HRTV and thought how cool is this that people can walk out on the track and for such a great cause. I sure hope that Monmouth Park in New Jersey does something like this. It’s also very exciting that many of your fans came out to give their support. Take care, Zenny. Love, Linda
@Kathy B. Thank you for sharing your photos. Wow they sure had a great turnout. I hope others will be encouraged just seeing all this support behind this wonderful cause.

My Dearest Zenyatta and Team Z,
I could never thank you enough. I am alive because of you Zenyatta and your teams decision to run you in 2010. You inspired me to never give up….to look at you my Queen is to know God exists. You restored my faith and I fought just to see you run….and now I am still inspired by you. I watch your videos over and over again….
Dottie- words really fail me to try to thank you and tell you just how much your taking the time to do this “Z Diary” means to me and I feel confident many, many others. You are all such beautiful, kind loving individuals…From the bottom of my heart and the depths of my soul….thank you…May all the Joy, wonder, inspiration, beauty, and strength you have given me and others be returned to all of you a thousand fold. I will always love you All….
May we all live to see the day they find a cure….

Good evening Zenyatta,
how neat, getting to go where you raced and to experience the different places you had to pass through, and for a terrific cause. Walking, I know how much you rather be running but for us two legged ones walking is actually better, and so good for us :) :) :) It de-stresses, slims, gets you in touch with the neighbors, and your environment. It’s a good thing, I walk almost everywhere, and almost always decline rides when unnessessary. I was looking at Giacomo’s videos, what a beautiful horse, but he has a temper, I think he was trying to bite his handler, he was showing him his teeth a couple of times, very high spirited, and fast, you should have seen him in his paddock, running like a silver streak, and bucking, just like in a rodeo. That boy is sthg else. :) :) :)
Well, dear girl, hope all’s well with you & everybody at Lane’s End, rest well and sweet dreams.
Dawn Conrad
@Shari – My dear friend I thank God that you and your husband are doing well. I am so sorry that your father is currently ill. I will be praying for his recovery and that you all may be blessed with many, many cancer free years ahead. I have led the first survivor lap at a couple of the local cancer walks and I have shared those same emotions you speak of. Such moments are so life affirming. Each new day is such a precious gift. You keep dancing!!

Good Evening Queen ‘Z” What a great day El Vino winning and to top it off raising funds for such a wonderful cause. So many of us have lost loved ones to this horrible disease. Someday I hope they find a CURE!

I was there…standing next to Bo Derek, rubbing elbows with the jocks, it was way too fun! And for a great cause too!

Hi Zenny, this was wonderful and the way they did it was as if you might be heading the whole thing. I love it. The City of Hope is a very worthy cause and am glad that is what they were walking for. They do so much for cancer patients and also for research. Thanks to all that joined the walk and congradulations to Dottie and John for heading the Project, I am so proud of how they put this together. Love you much Zenyatta and I know your heart was with this event.
Holly Zemba
Sounds like such a wonderful event, I really like the idea that everyone got to walk through the starting gate and that the jockeys went first.
Lynn ..... (nearby Hwd Park) California
Hey.. Hi Carmela B. I should have gone to S.A. (55 mins away from S.A.) Glad you had a really fun day. I only saw Bo from a distance one race day. She is always so caring about horses and animals.
Finding a cancer cure is fine, however we all need to take better care to ourselves to ‘prevent’ cancer too. One’s body is getting so polluted these days. Check out cancer studies on web sites about keeping your body alkaline not acidic. Better to prevent cancer in the 1st place. (it’s not a fade diet, just more vegetarian etc) I pass this info on so you all can live long happy lives.
Zenyatta sweetie, you have a long happy life, and we are all here to see you live it. You’re awesome.
Pamela J Hebert
Zenny what a wonderful cause, you have inspired so many good things for all. You ARE amazing!!!

Hi Zenny, Dottie & Team Z (X 2):
What a great idea for a fundraiser! It must have been too much fun to walk through the starting gates and see what you saw when they shot open. And how great to have the jockeys there! I’m envious of those who could buzz over to the track for the day.
@ Dani: I also loved seeing the photo of Life Is Sweet with her colt foal. He’s just a darling and she looks so natural & so content.
Big peppermint kisses just for you, sweet Zen.
