Happy Friday to All,
As you know, Dottie and John are at Pimlico for the Preakness with Mr. Commons. I gather he is being one terrific guy. He trained nicely this morning and got a chance to see all of the surroundings. They have large tents up in the infield, and he looked at all of them. It was nice for him to get to see ALL OF IT and get used to this different type of infield environment. Later this afternoon, he will school and visit the paddock as well. So many things to learn, to do, and to accomplish! I remember it well!
In addition to all of the things going on with the Preakness, Dottie told ME that no matter where she and John went….. PEOPLE ASKED ABOUT ME! ME….now isn’t that TOO CUTE! I am so flattered! They wanted to know how I’m doing, how much I love my life now….and of course, the big question, how much have Bernie and I been dating.? Katherine and Carol asked John and Dottie for a photo op with them….which, of course, they did! Steve Haskins asked them to do a video clip…..and guess who he mentioned to Dottie? ME! They also met Ann Maree, who often writes responses in my Diary. All of this is so special and such fun.
The weather has been very pleasant so far and tomorrow, Preakness Day, is supposed to be beautiful! So, HOOVES CROSSED for a great RACE DAY!
WOW! People are asking about ME! This statement has such a nice RING TO IT! Thank you so much for BEING SO THOUGHTFUL and caring!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Happy Friday, Zenyatta, I hope you have a great Preakness weekend with your gal pals. Good luck to Mr. Commons in the Preakness tomorrow!!

you are the queen….and you are loved

Mr. Commons would have found a soul mate in Life is Sweet, who was also a lover of naps! Such a smart boy, saving his reserves for the big task tomorrow. However, he looked a little irked this morning, when he tried to nip at the good John during an HRTV interview. It looked as though he was trying to get at his mentor’s pocket, possibly better known (to him) as a treasure trove of treats. Good luck tomorrow, Mr. Commons! Prayers for a safe journey for you and all of your noble competitors.
@Jane Wade: Judy (Maass) Gadwood is correct, in that it was Frank Leal holding the reins on Mr. Commons during the HRTV interview. However, as he is Assistant Trainer, I don’t think he would be the groom. In an earlier segment, I thought I saw Junior standing in the background. Might he be Mr. Commons’ groom?

@ Everyone: The owner of the horse rescue emailed me a little while ago to say the mare had her foal-a large bay colt! They are still waiting on the afterbirth but so far mom and baby seem fine-baby is trying to get up! It was a good thing they were there because the foal only had one leg and his head out and the other leg was hung at the elbow-needed a little assistance. Now when I say big, we’re not talking Zenny-big. Mama is probably about 14.2hh. I can’t wait to see him! Well, just wanted all of you to know :)
VickiS.
Praying for a safe race and also for a winning one for Mr. Commons!

@Doreen. Great link to the interview. Really liked it.

Dearest Z, I just listened to Ellen Parker on the show that Audrey C linked to on #252. What I enjoyed the most was the praise Ellen gave the Mosses for being outstanding owners and the praise she gave YOU, Zenny. This program was recorded on Dec 9, 2009, and your competition for HOY with Rachel came up. It was very clear that Ellen thought YOU deserved the nod. She said that when Rachel Alexandra won the Preakness, she beat the BOYS, but when YOU won the 2009 BC Classic, YOU beat the MEN! She said the three-year-old colt field was not of very high quality, but YOU beat a high quality field of colts that were the best from around the world!
Furthermore, as she put it, you did it with CONSUMMATE EASE, and came dancing and prancing back from the winner’s circle LOOKING FOR MORE! (That’s at about 58 minutes into the show.) Direct link: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/howling_ridge_radio/2009/12/10/howling-ridge-radio
That’s just ONE reason, Queen Z, that people will ALWAYS ask Dottie and John about you.
@Signofthetimes—Welcome back. Missed you.
@Susan in TN—Congratulations on “your” new baby!

Hope Mr. Commons gets rested up and is ready to roll tomorrow-got my fingers crossed and wishing him the best! It is fabulous that no matter how much time passes, that everyone still inquires about you, but how could they not? You have always been the talk of the town and likely always will be! Love you lots-you continually help me get through my difficult times and I don’t know what I would do without you-you are so specail to me Zenyatta!
Carol
How thankful we all are for Dottie who is truly Zenyatta’s totally believable “voice”. I wonder if any other horse in history has ever had such a love affair with people or carried on the daily conversation we are so privileged to have with you, dear Zenyatta. Hugs to you…and to Dottie!
Margie
Hi Zenny, love you. No one will ever forget you. Not ever.
@Sue Fredrick/Jean M. – love the name but how about Zingular Zensation? I swear, ever since I discovered Zenyatta I’m seeing Z’s everywhere!
@Sharon Call – I believe Shari Voltz’s students will remember her horse/life lessons for the rest of their lives. She’s found an incredible path to their hearts and minds.
@Jon – you make me want to drive over to Hollywood Park just to hear that final announcement on racing days!
To Mr. Commons – I wish I could be there in person to cheer you on. Be safe, no matter what.
Max
@Susan in TN. That mare and her little colt are probably just as vested in you. That is great work that you are doing. It is the magic of Zenyatta. Looking forward to hearing future bulletins about this.

Good Luck to Mr. Commons in the race tomorrow! He looks like he is getting enough rest–a perfect match for Life is Sweet! I like Animal Kingdom and Mucho Macho Man as well. It’s been so long since Affirmed won the last triple crown that it would be exciting if Animal Kingdom could pull it off…I remember how exciting the Affirmed/Alyder races were! Well Z hope you are enjoying the Kentucky Bluegrass. We actually saw the sun today in Boston for a few minutes after an entire week of rain :)

P.S. Susan in TN: such happy news!

I just read on BloodHorse that today at Pimlico they had a female jockey challenge. The top female jockeys in North America competed against each other.EmmaJayne Wilson won and then immediately donated her $10,000.00 check to the Susan G.Komen breast cancer campaign.Goes to prove there really are some really wonderful people in the racing world!!And Zen you and your family are right there with the best.

@Susan in Tn. What great news about the new baby. Now you’re going to get to see that baby grow up. It’s just a wonderful experience. Wait until that colt takes his first run, his first buck and the first time he starts picking on his mom. It’s just one great event after another and you will get to see it all. Congrats!
Linda Henderson
Zenyatta, of course people ask about you. You are unforgettable.

Susan in Tn, Wonderful news! You must be absolutely thrilled.
I really enjoyed listening to John and Dottie’s interview with Steve today. It’s awesome that readers here provide us with links to such great stuff. A huge thank you for sharing news with those of us who are less “techie” types.

Here’s a link for the article by Joe Drape that the Kennedys referred to on #252: “Zenyatta’s Trainer Uncovers a Colt That Gives Him Hope”— http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/20/sports/mr-commons-gives-hope-to-zenyattas-trainer-in-preakness.html?_r=1&ref=joedrape
GO, MR. COMMONS!
@J SMITH— Thanks for the link to Hay List’s facebook page. He looks really sweet, and he has a sense of humor (“I always see her backside !” he says in the picture with Black Caviar.) Interesting that his dad is named Statute of Liberty!
__________________________________________@OraJean Stevenson “… and may the HORSE be with you!!” LOVE IT!
@ZENYEN—Great info on how the X-Factor works (#252)! Now I understand why they say Secretariat was a a great broodmare sire! He was able to pass his big heart to colts only through the fillies he sired. Thanks so much.
sue
Of course Zenyatta – you are always spoken of and asked about. That is because you are in our hearts.
Linda in NJ
Hi Zenny: Well I am all ready to go. I’ll leave NJ around 7am and that will put me in MD around 10am. I am giving myself plenty of time. I can’t wait to see Mr. Commons with your John. I hope I’ll have a chance to say hello to Dottie and John. Better get going. I’ll write to you tomorrow with my news of the day. Take care, Zenny. With a lot of love, Linda

just like the T-shirt I bought at HP says “Zenyatta, always in our hearts” !!!

@everybody who follows the Moss’s and/or John Shirreff’s horses, Makoma is racing tomorrow in the G2 Milady Handicap at Hollywood Park. Post time is 1 p.m. PDT. Makoma is a homebred owned by the Mosses and trained by “dear John.” Chantal Sutherland is up. She’ll be running against St. Trinians who gave such a valiant effort last year in the Vanity Handicap (I think it was the Vanity). @Linda in NJ, safe trip!
