Good Morning,
Each year, the DRF (Daily Racing Form)…in book format…produces a complete recap of the prior year in racing. It is called the AMERICAN RACING MANUAL. The issue currently being released is recapping 2010…and it has ME on the cover. Now this is TOO CUTE!
This resource book is a very complete review of the prior racing year. All graded stakes charts for the year are included as well as the past performances for all horses who won a graded stakes. They also present a summary of every stakes race run in that calendar year with some extra statistical sections for the Triple Crown Races. A great deal of other information is presented to really keep racing fans up-to-speed on all of these topics as well as honoring many historical perspectives concerning our sport. It is truly very informative!
And…the fact that I’M on the cover…even makes it more special!
In reviewing other topics in the RACING FORM, I have to say MY TEAM and I love the photo Jay Hovdey used of ME in one of his current blogs. Jay wrote the words and those are his thoughts, however, the photo is of ME! MY TEAM and I are still laughing at my expression! I must explain. Jay took this photo one morning at BARN 55 when I was really enjoying a post workout bath with Mario and Carmen. I remember it well! Jay got this shot at that very moment when Mario was massaging my back and just touched that ‘perfect spot’. OH-H-H….it felt FABULOUS!
Enjoy!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Hi Z! Another honor for the Z!!! I love the picture with your tongue hanging out-super relaxed girlfriend! You have a wonderful weekend. It is hot here so we spend a lot of time in the pool. Kate is coming home today from spending three full days with her Dozey; training, playing, grazing, bathing, stall cleaning. She had a great time. Have a good weekend Z-we are doing a BBQ for daddy’s day with lots of family friends. xxoo

And just who else would they put on the cover?! Covers are reserved for Queens and such and we all know there is only one Queen. Love the “oh my that’s the spot” photo! TOO CUTE! The boy’s on the track probably don’t miss you because now they have a chance to win but the rest of us miss you much! (thanks Dottie)

Just a note for those who are concerned about the chain under Z’s lip. What it actually does is release endorphins, so when horse is nervous and high strung, it has a calming effect. Not painful unless someone yanks on it, which a knowledgable horseperson would never do. Just a tool for keeping horses and their handlers safe in high stress situations.

You are just too adorable, my dear!!! Lots of love from your home state!

@Shannon from Cool. I agree with you. I really hate lip chains, regardless of the size of the link. Since her halter is popped up from her muzzle, it appears that whoever is on the other end of that shank has quite a grip on her. That’s probably why her tongue is out.
@Margaret. Really, seriously, they’re going to geld ALL of the studs? No wonder they’re not going to give birth control to the mares. They don’t need to because there won’t be any studs to cover the mares. Depending on when they geld the studs, it could take a generation or two before the mustangs could breed again unless, of course, they just continue to geld all of the young stallions. It’s good that the round-ups will stop, but the long-term outlook doesn’t appear to be so great. Hope there’s more to it than this.
Bridget
Yeah, Z, that’s great!

Zenny…you are a silly girl. I really wish somebody would put together a photo album that we could purchase. That would be a big fundraiser. Congrats on the cover of the Racing Manual.

Nice toothy smile!

Another Cover! Good for you!!! I love the
expression on your face.
@Sharon, the “lip chain” does not hurt her. An experienced horse person can put the chain on in an instant and just holding it comfortably does not hurt the horse.
@Everyone, Z has her tongue out all the time. I have a wonderful photo of her here at work with her tongue straight out while she is in the paddock before a race.
Too Cute!!!

Zenny, you most adorable girl, you! Love the picture! I agree with Sarah Powell – the boys probably don’t miss you on the track, that’s for sure. But we certainly do. I’m at lunch right now, so think I’ll watch some Zenny race videos to get my adrenaline pumping so I can power through the rest of the day. :-) Love you forever.

Lisa and Kathryn are both correct, the handler controls the pressure on the horse. A study chain in gentle hands is just a reminder, while a milder chain in rough, quick hands can cause a great deal of pain. Zenny was lucky enough to have knowledgeable, caring people surrond her during her racing career. Now the people at Land’s End are the ones that must continue her gentle care.

Ha! Ha! What a great photo, my adorable Zenyatta, congratulations on making the cover of the A R M, you are a Diva! You are the best… your team is the best… This is the reason that I love you so much! Ingrid.
Yesterday in Hollywood Park, Tiz Zoe she died of a heart attack, I do not like when a horse died, and my prayers are for the owners.
Jan
