Happy Saturday!
This photo is absolutely TOO CUTE! A few days ago, a dear fan of mine, Judy Gadwell, and several of her friends went to BARN 55 to visit MY STALL and see my dear little sister, Eblouissante. Well, while Judy was greeting “E”, she began sniffing Judy’s purse. Lo and behold, Judy started to laugh telling Steve that she had caramel corn in her bag.
The sense of smell must be something that is very well developed in our family. Last year, when I hosted a brunch for charity (The Los Angeles Zoo), I did the same thing. My one guest, Karen, set her purse down on a chair at the end of the table. While I was out grazing and enjoying myself hosting the visit, something kept drawing ME to Karen’s purse.
I walked right over to the table and immediately started to sniff Karen’s bag…just like “E” did with Judy. Suddenly everyone started to laugh and Karen commented…”Oh, I forgot….I brought some baby carrots for Zenyatta and they are in my purse.”
Karen immediately took the carrots out of her bag…..put some on the end of the table…and I began to snack on them. It truly was BRUNCH WITH ZENYATTA!
I find this so interesting. I guess many different types of characteristics can be shared in a family. “E” and I not only have a well-developed sense of smell…but we both have a great sense of taste (loving our treats and food), hearing (wear cotton in our ears), touch (love to be pet and hugged), sight (see everything all of the time).
This family thing is very interesting to ME!
Have a great weekend! Enjoy all of the wonderful stakes races around the country and LET THE SUMMER BEGIN!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~ (Good luck to my pals Cloud Man, Zazu, and Cozi HRosie)

Dear Zenny: 10:50AM Saturday. It will be 113 today. Do I need another excuse for not doing yard work? It’s a great excuse for bringing up the rear on Z Posts! Look out – I’m into the far turn – I’ve read through #279! But just wanted to wish YOU Good Morning!
@Dumplings – Love this picture! Who is who from left to right? I am soooo looking forward to July 9th and meeting some of you in person.
@treats in purses: All sensible women have treats in their purses, don’t we? Ya never know when a grand kid needs some gum, or a kitty needs a catnip toy, or you’ll be stranded 100 miles from a Starbucks, or – – – you get nuzzled by a famous racehorse! Too Cute!

THIS MUST MEAN THAT THE FAMILY THAT MUNCHES TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER!!!! Who knew that Vertigineux ALSO has great genes for eyes & smell!!!
THE FOLLOWING IS A RE-POST. I posted this very late on # 281, so for anyone following Cozi Rosie today:
SOME INFO ON COZI ROSIE: I was stopped dead by the article posted by Judy (Maas) Gadwood on the Mosses filly, because GOLDEN FLEECE was one of my all-time favourite thoroughbreds and he is Rosie’s broodmare sire!!!!**** A little backgrounf: Golden Fleece was a son of the great Nijinsky II and, according to Vincent O’Brien, who trained a large number of thoroughbred stars from his operation @ Ballydoyle in Ireland (and who also started Coolmore after he retired), Golden Fleece was probably the third greatest horse he ever trained. This is a HUGE statement for O’Brien to make, as you might imagine. Anyway, the beautiful bay colt won the Epsom Derby and only raced another four times, but retired undefeated. (He was retired early because it was clear to all that he was “another Nijinsky” after he — literally — walked away from the field at Epsom.) He was Champion Three-Year-Old Colt in England & Ireland 1982.Sadly, Golden Fleece developed a cough that was eventually diagnosed as leukemia and he died in 1984 in Ireland at age 5. At his death, he had sired 2 crops: 59 foals, 47 runners, 29 winners, 6 stakes winners. He is the sire of 26 producing daughters who have produced 129 foals, 15 stakes winners, 4 champions (3 of whom were bred and/or raced for the Mosses!). I have about a dozen photos of Golden Fleece in my own collection but was THRILLED to see that he has a granddaughter racing in the USA!!!!! Hopefully, the Mosses will breed her to another large heart stallion (like our friend, Bernie) because these bloodlines are both spectacular & precious!!!!
RE: RECKLESS. There was a book written about this great Korean thoroughbred. It’s scarce but fascinating reading. Here are the coordinates: “Reckless: Pride of the Marines” by Andrew Geer, E.P. Dutton publisher, 1955. Try your library or abebooks.com (best prices on used books, including lots on horses!!!) YOUTUBE story of Sgt. Reckless with some great footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIo3ZfA9da0

@terry Crow, I shouldn’t do this but I can’t help myself, my husband tells this joke everytime we go into a new bar. “Did you hear about the horse that walked into a bar…..the bartender said, Hey why the long face?” I’m sorry couldn’t resist.
Terry Crow
@Judy Berube–Come on, a year for what that guy did? The trainer that told his boy to pull Charity for eight straight races would have received a stiffer sentence if he had been caught.

You are awesome Z!! I bet they were delicious,
For you and E!! Keep up the updates!!
Love ya my Queen!!
-the one YOU made laugh (again)
Terry Crow
@Sue Fredrick–Good one. Cue the rimshot. A seller at the $50.00 window looked up to see a horse as his next customer. MY name is Spark Plug, the horse said, and I want to bet $50.00 on myself to win the 6th race. The teller had a shocked look on his face. What’s the matter said the horse, haven’t you ever seen a talking horse before? It isn’t that, said the teller, its just that you haven’t got a chance in that race. Cue the rimshot.

Dear Z Fans:

What adorable photos!! How exciting for Judy to be visiting Barn 55 and meeting Eblouissante! Too cute about the treat smelling, too. Gosh, I just love coming over here to read all the too cool stuff I am learning about our Queen and other horses. Abigail, that is so neat to find out the connection of Cozi Rosie to Golden Fleece. Every time I come to this site, I find a reason to smile. Thank you!!
Martha Lydick
You also like jewelry. When I visited you went for my swarovski pendant. You have good taste. One of the highlights of my life was visiting you that last week.

To Terry Crow:
You’re right. Is that the only tape you have; no other copies? Hugs, J.B.

@Diana S-Look forward to it. After seeing these pictures, however, I think the group better come up with a new nickname. Dumplings just doesn’t seem to be appropriate. You ladies should not sell yourselves short.

@ N.A.N.Coleman – I completely agree with your sentiments, let her age like a fine wine, John will know when she is ready. Spectacular things are worth the anticipation, patience is a virtue.
@ Terry Crow – thanks again for the chuckle – the visual on that was fun.
@ all later posts – I see I have been missing so much by not checking back more often. I so appreciate the experiences shared here and wish all those with current challenges a very bright tomorrow.

Zenyatta, you have such lovely far manners. We wish you well during your pregnancy.

Zenny, you always leave a huge smile on my face when I read your diary. Everything about you is too cute! So you found those baby carrots? I’m not the least bit surprised…afterall you seem to be the most intelligent horse and one with copious amounts of curiosity. These pictures John finds for us are very special. Thanks, Dottie, for sharing another magical moment with “Z” with all of us.
Terry Crow
@Judy Berube-Per your advice, I went back and perused your joke on the previous thread. That’s a good one, worthy of the Henny Youngman award. Also again reviewed the picture of Matt and Zenyatta. At one time in my life, I looked like that kid. NOT. Although, at one time I was the youngest person on the face of the earth.
Terry Crow
@Judy Berube-There’s a horse in the next race. The jockey has a thousand on him.
