HAPPY 4th OF JULY!
I want to wish all of you a fantastic HOLIDAY WEEKEND and a very safe July 4th.
While many people will be off to the races, walking on the sand, and enjoying great barbeques, I’ll be here at Lane’s End having a special time as well. MY JOHN and his crew will be racing.
I’m looking forward to enjoying the sunshine, grazing on the bluegrass, and eating some of my favorite TREATS! As you can see, I’m happily awaiting a few bites from my ST. LEO’S friends in this photo. This is a visit I did to help fund-raise for a local school. I must say, the ladies were so gracious and brought ME the perfect treats!
The holiday weekend is also filled with a large number of fabulous stakes races. One in particular is of great interest to ME. On Monday, my dear, dear friend, HARMONIOUS, is running in the ROYAL HEROINE G-2 at Hollywood Park. It is one mile on the turf. This will be her first start since February when she tried the dirt at Santa Anita. Harmonious has a wonderful past performance record. She is a very accomplished turf filly by Dynaformer out of a mare named Jade Tree! I’m wishing her ALL THE BEST!
Harmonious and I spent a great deal of time together at Barn 55. We not only grazed together each morning and afternoon, but we shared MARIO as our groom. He is truly one terrific guy! As we would often be outside at the exact same time, Mario would be with ME and Frank would be with Harmonious. It worked out perfectly for everyone.
I believe this is one of the reasons why it was such a smooth transition for ME to share a paddock with other horses once I acclimated to life at Lane’s End. It was such a familiar and comfortable situation as I have literally spent years outside grazing at Barn 55 with other horses close by: Tiago, Life Is Sweet, Zardana, After Market and Harmonious to name a few. We always respected each other’s space, which is so important, and simply enjoyed sharing our time outdoors with each other. We could literally stand there and look around for hours and hours. We weren’t necessarily ‘eating anything’…we were just enjoying the time outdoors! Hmmmm, I still do that!
I’d personally like to wish HARMONIOUS and VALERIA (one of my Moss pals) GOOD LUCK in their races. They are both running on Monday, the 4th! Such FUN!
Enjoy your Holiday!
Please be safe!
With love,
Hugs to All~

An amusing story of what happens to the barn and horses while Dawn Diovera is away (best laid plans…) starts off today’s Man and Horse blog, followed by (if you scroll down) pictures of patriotic pets—check out the horse done up like Old Glory —I don’t know how they do it, but I sure hope it’s non-toxic! The funniest story though, scrolling all the way down to June 30, is the hilarious tale “Worse than Running with Scissors” of what mischief two horses can get into in the barn . Love the imagined dialog between the horses Violet Beauregard and Wrigley as they get themselves into some very close quarters. (No worries, they don’t hurt themselves.) Enjoy! http://horseandman.com/

Good morning Sweet “Z” and little “z”,
Just in case you do not update your Hoofprint today I will say hello now. Wishing your “Z” Team the very best of Luck tomorrow at H.P.! I hope you have a quiet 4th with all of your favorite treats. Thank you for all of the ‘fireworks’ you provided at the racetrack! You are the bomb!

Susan In TN–It’s not easy. We don’t go out in the heat of the afternoon, and we bring the dogs in. (That’s what we loved so much about being in your part of the country!)

Happy 3rd Zenny! We are watching the River rise. My animals are safe on high ground but sadly many are not. Our local
rescues are over flowing with many displaced creatures.
Charlotte Farmer…I hope all of Zenny’s fans wil make a donation for Noor’s reburial. Old Friends is the perfect place for your great champion.

@Quaterhossgal, where are you (have not seen the news for a few days)? Is there anything we can do to help the stranded animals? Please post if there is.

Dear Charlotte Farmer: Your meticulous preparations for Noor`s passage East prompt a memory from a film of Frances Mayes` memoir ‘Under The Tuscan Sun.’ Sinking her wealth and energies into the dream of a home, it became a staggering mission before her. Then her realtor told her the story of a line of track laid over the Alps even before a train capable of traversing those rails was built. Noor will grab the imaginations of people who may not even think they care about any of this .. . because the world needs these stories. They may not know it, but your stamina and attention to detail will continue to open doors in a world saturated by cynicism, because now a lot of other people care about your vision for Noor, rolling along home, and because they still care about their own dreams coming true.

Dear Sweet Zenyatta. I hope you and the girls are having a good day. Things did not go well with my mom. I came home very upset. I needed a horse hug. Sometimes I would like to crawl in your stall and just camp there. Do you think anyone would notice? I know I have no control over the mom situation but it still hurts. I hope you enjoy the rest of the night and that it is quiet where you are. I love you sweetie. Hugs and Kisses, Shari XXXOOO

@ CHARLOTTE F- as usual, im slow to the party. im fascinated with the noor relocation story, the above post was fascinating as to what awaits his remains once removed from the ground. id love to hear more, such as, as it is now, is his body in a box/coffin now or was he just put in the ground when he died? im assuming after all these years that not much more then a skeleton remains, regardless, is whats left going to be cremated or put intact into this box?(i visited OF last year and other then precisionist, i think all the burials there had been cremated) how will the new box get from california to kentucky?.. the dimension mentioned make the box perfect size for a regular pick up truck if necessary.i dont know if im suppose to put my email address in this post or not, if not, I APOLOGIZE, but my email addy is YZPILOT2@aol.com would love more info..THX
ALENE

Hi Z….I realized even more yesterday just how many wonderful people you have around you. I caught the 7th race from Hollywood Park on TVG. I was showing a friend of mine racing on that channel. Well that race went terrible at the gate..but one thing I saw that I know no one would ever do to you…one horse…I think Good Time Charlie…broke through the front gate…and he did hurt a worker. But he was spooked guess…and the head guy of the gate workers…called that horse a MF….you know what I mean…right on his mike for all to hear…then he grabbed him…smacked him and called him a MF again…on the mike. I was furious. I see how you have been treated….and many other wonderful horses…and no horse needs to be treated that way. If I was the owner…I would be furious!!!!! As I say Z….you are so loved ….and have had the most wonderful people taking care of you….what a true blessing!!! Hugs to you Z….

Dear Z Fans:
Here’s the story of Giant Causeway’s Mom, Mariah’s Storm. The movie Dreamer was loosely based on her. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Mary:
That’s awful. It must have been a terrible thing to witness and hear. The horse was probably nervous and scared. Feel bad for the poor horse and for the injured worker. Hugs, J.B.

Charlotte Farmer. I read your plans on BH but, for some reason, can’t get back into the article to comment to you.
Anyways, I live across the bridge from GGF and I would be honored to get that “dirt” for you and Noor!! However, I’ve never done anything like this and don’t know how to go about it? Let me know if you still need that and any suggestions are welcomed! It’s a very worthy cause so that Noor can rest in peace in a permanent area. And, not be lost under concrete and forgotten!
Z, you lovely lady you!!! In a month or so, we should start to see you’re “baby bump!” Love you big girl!
Barbara Wood
@Mary–I’m livid with you. That person should not be allowed to work around animals.

Have 4th of July, Zenny!!! Best of luck to your pals racing!!! May they come home safe:)

@Charlotte Farmer – Like Linda in NJ I am going to make an additional donation for Noor. Your selflessness in taking on this effort has not gone unnoticed by all who comment on this website. When Noor is finally laid to rest at Old Friends you should consider writing a book about your journey. I think you have a way with words and a wonderful story to tell!
