Good Morning,
I love this photo! This is my dear friend, April Mayberry, who came to visit ME while
she was in town this week for the Fasig Tipton Yearling Sale.
As many of you may know, I spent my very early training days with April and her Mom,
Jeanne, at the Mayberry’s Training Center in Ocala, Florida. Once purchased at the
September Yearling Sale, and my skin disease was cleared up, I was then able to
travel. Dottie made my vanning arrangements and I was off to Ocala to start my early
lessons with April and Jeanne.
They have literally known ME from the very beginning stages of my career.
It was with them that I learned so many of ‘the basics’ about being a race horse
and the foundation for my early lessons about equipment, riders, galloping, jogging,
and breezing down the lane was established.
I stayed with them until the beginning of May of my two year old year…and then I
was off to Barn 55! It was absolutely FABULOUS to see April and spend some time
with her! I even got to show her MY BABY BUMP! So much has happened in the
last several years since I was a ‘darling little yearling’ living in Ocala!
SUCH WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL MEMORIES!
It has really been an eventful week. This is very special! A second party contacted
the Breeders’ Cup on Wednesday afternoon and asked if they could MATCH
the $11,200 donation to the V FOUNDATION for the Breeders’ Cup Experience and
VISIT WITH ME! They really wanted to participate in all of this!
The BC emailed Dottie and told her of this request. Needless to say, we agreed to help
and were more than willing to make this happen. Thus, it is now $22,400…that
will be contributed to the V FOUNDATION for this BC Package and VISIT WITH ME!
Then yesterday afternoon, I was able to TANGO on the phone with ANN and wish her
a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! She was very excited to hear from ME…and SEE ME!
During our visit, she added one request…she wanted ME to be sure and THANK ALL
OF YOU FOR THE WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY GREETINGS! She was truly touched by
ALL of your thoughtfulness!
It has really been a quite a busy and FUN week. I have so enjoyed touching base with
so many of my dear friends…and of course, MY TEAM….and ALL OF YOU!
HAPPY FRIDAY!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Zenny, you never take a bad picture. This one of you with April is one of the best…two friends enjoying each others company. What could be better? Not a thing.

Dear DMCQ:
I feel the same about remembering the Great Ones from the past. Phar Lap is one of the greatest and one of the saddest stories. I’ll try to find an article on him to post. Also, I agree with you. Animals communicate with us all the time if we just stop and pay attention. Hugs, J.B.

Dear DJ:

@Susan in TN—(Re: losing the Internet connection and thereby losing a (long) post in progress) Don’t you just hate it when that happens! I’ve had that experience too of course since my connection seems so tenuous. Now I usually compose my comments on a separate WORD page which will still be there even if the Internet goes out while I’m writing. I also can use a larger font size that way, which makes it easier for me to proofread. Then I just copy and paste into the comment area on Z’s website. Looking forward to your long post.

@Judy (Maas) Gadwood/JAG: Special thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
@Barbara Wood: So glad Charlie is recovering nicely!
Zenny, goodnight and sweet dreams!

I established a feral cat sanctuary at our horse property in Grass Valley, Ca and wanted to thank you for helping one of the millions of feral cats in the U.S. The very best thing you can do for ferals is to employ the TNR (trap, neuter, release) program. IT WORKS!! The traps are humane and many vets neuter the cats for free. Check with your local animal groups for support. Also, there is a great website dedicated to helping feral cats in the U.S. called Alley Cat Allies, check it out and thanks again…
Also to Judy, sending you light and love…

@Zenny and Team Z: See – you’ve done it again – gathering here –
@Patrica & @Deborah Richman: As some who have read my very early posts know, long before I became Dumpling Tag Central, I became active doing cat rescue, foster, and feral cat colony care giving and TNR work. In fact, there are several kindred spirits on this site who help the feline throwaways of this world. I am a member of quite a number of groups who do this work, but Alley Cat Allies is a biggie and has affiliates all over the country that can help you find help. Good on ya for even the smallest out reach to help any critter in need regardless of species.
@All: I promise I will find a way to link the poem “I Am An Animal Rescuer” for your meditation. Or I will just post it here if the Deaconess DJ will allow my intrusion into territory not usually my forte.

Zenyatta, what a simply gorgeous picture of you and April – I just love it! The love between you two is so very evident. I remember seeing April and Jeanne up on stage with the rest of Team Z during the HOY award. It was just wonderful to “meet” every single member of this very exceptional team and learn about each one’s special contribution. So glad you could be reunited – I’m sure April is SO proud of you and happy to see you doing so well!

Hello! Queen Z… love that fabulous picture of you & april!!! looking fantastic as usual!!… today saturday july 16 has been a racing day to remember with Blind Luck & Havre de Grace getting it down to the wire in the Delaware Handicap!!… BL reminds me of you, knowing exactly where the finish line is… then between Nereid (from your former Barn 55) & Cambina in the American Oaks, that was really something!!! not to mention another heart palpitating finish between Ultra Blend & Irish Gypsy…. golly miss molly!!! i thought i was going to have a heart attack today with all these Superladies of Horseracing giving us some out of this world finishes!! they seem to emulate you Queen Z on how to end a day in racing!! no complains from me… but the fact of the matter you are still the Best of the best!! how many years from now your name will always be in the minds of Horseracing Fans! it is part of history period…. Love you always!

Hi Zenny: Well, Zenny if you headed back to your barn yesterday to see what was going on at the races, you must be absolutely hoarse (no pun intended) from rooting for your former neighbors at Barn 55. A dead heat finish between Nereid and Cambina was so thrilling. And a great big high hoof to Star Billing!!! What an exciting race that was! As I understand it, right down the street from your former house lives Blind Luck. Well that race at Delaware Park was another awesome race. Congratulations to Blind Luck!! What an exciting race it was. I am telling you Zenny, if Zazu, Blind Luck, Havre de Grace and Life at Ten compete in the Alabama race at Saratoga, I think I will have to make the trip to see them. Take care, Zenny.
@The Kennedys in San Diego: Hope all is well with you. You mentioned about seeing Blind Luck at (I think she is at Barn 52.) Anyways, it didn’t come to pass–wish I had! What an awesome race that was at Delaware Park.

Hi Big Mama, I’ve been away for a while, had the grandkids in from out of town and we had a ball, waterparks, fishing, etc. I have been trying to catch up on your posts and I love this pic with April, how lucky is she to touch that velvet muzzle! You look marvelous!!
I watched Blind Luck pull off one of your special finishes yesterday…WOW….she is the neatest little filly. I love her grit and determination. I’m so happy to see these fillies kicking butt.
Congrats to the Mosses on their homebred Irish Derbys win and John’s Nereid’s win.
Also don’t know how many have heard the news but the Pacer SEE YOU AT PEELERS (or something like that) won her 20th straight race yesterday….WOW.
@JAG so sorry to hear of your sisters passing my prayers go out to you and your family.
@Thanks to all who post these interesting links I love reading them.
Luv you Z and kisses on your nose

Sorry, I meant Robert L. Dickey. Beautiful equine artist! Will check back later for a new hoof-print off to Church. Happy Son-Day!

“They Had No Choice,” written on the London Memorial for the War Horses of WWI, is singular in its homage to the equine warriors of that cataclysm, which took as many horses as soldiers to their deaths. The difference is that, while the men used the horses, the horses fought — not only the war — but a cultural transition that forced them to fight not only the enemy, but the newly-mechanized armies of both sides. Now, the 5 Tonys that ‘War Horse’ has won, and the art-into-lifelike creatures on stage are featured on CBS Sunday Morning. Find it, [using discretion, as the subject matter in old war films can be wrenching] at http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/04/10/sunday/main20052535.shtml?tag=cbsnewsTwoColUpperPromoArea ~ The episode first appeared in April, 2010.

Thanks to all for sharing the pictures, websites, memories and other. Lovely picture of April and Zenny –
Blessings and prayers go out to Judy and all who are suffering or sorrowing, and prayers for the concerns and needs of all. Thanks for sharing them – and for being such a loving and caring community here – Love to all of you and to darling Zenny – who does more good than she will ever know – as do all of you –

Facing life with all it throws can break your heart, and the will to go on. That is why, once I clicked onto, ‘Michael Morpurgo on horses` military service’ — the link CBS Sunday Morning placed in its article and featured episode mentioned above, ‘The stage magic of “War Horse”‘ — it stopped me cold. It is a slightly different address at http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/04/10/sunday/main20052539.shtml?tag=contentMain;contentBody ~ IF you view this, it will be because we agree it is the human responsibility to know what power over the lives of creatures can mean to them that makes us humane. ~ Mr. Morpurgo`s books are usually for young adults and he had to deep-think that mutual loyalty when he chose to bring his novel [from which this stage play was taken] to their awareness. While looking away is an option we have the luxury to afford, it may diminish the quality of the lives of those animals which come under that power. Bit by bit, turning back to learn from history, the heart nearly stops, but then it goes on enlightened. I hope. Mr. Morpurgo saw to it that his book has a believable happy ending, for 65,000 war horses made it home. .. . Thank you for wading through this, if you did. Kathryn.

Eveline
Hi Zenny, haven’t got the time yet to read all comments. Our horses were 4th and 5th yesterday at Delaware. I know it sounds silly but our boy ran a good 5th, only got beat 4 lenghts and he was coming, really trying, if we could only find a race for him at his favorite distance. Our girl ran her hart out. along way back from the championfilly’s, but I don’t think I have ever cheered so hard for a horse to come in 3rd. She still made close to my yearly income in running 4th. Both came back good. Good day.
Trina Nagele
Dear Eveline—That doesn’t sound silly at all—it’s the truth, and we salute your boy for his game effort. Like you say, a race at his preferred distance would be a boon to him. Congratulations on your filly’s third. Can you share their names with us? You continue in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs.

Dear Kathryn Cogswell:
So glad you broached the subject of “War Horse”. After reading about some of the trailers for the movie being made by Steven Speilberg and listening to a TV commentator say it might be too much for children to see, I’m starting to wonder if I want to see it. I’m afraid it may be a little to graphic for me in the scenes where horses are treated poorly or harmed in any way. No doubt the movie will be done well and no horse will actually be injured. But, today’s films leave nothing to the imagination and some things are even to painful to want to imagine. So I’m undecided whether or not I will want to see it. Hugs, J.B.

@judy berube — thank you for the link to the Phar Lap tribute — nicely done. In our equine library, we have several books and the movie, “Phar Lap.” The movie is available from Netflix. I wish we had known of this great horse when we visited Melbourne, Australia. Rest assured I would have visited him in the museum there.
