Good Morning,
I love this photo! This is my dear friend, April Mayberry, who came to visit ME while
she was in town this week for the Fasig Tipton Yearling Sale.
As many of you may know, I spent my very early training days with April and her Mom,
Jeanne, at the Mayberry’s Training Center in Ocala, Florida. Once purchased at the
September Yearling Sale, and my skin disease was cleared up, I was then able to
travel. Dottie made my vanning arrangements and I was off to Ocala to start my early
lessons with April and Jeanne.
They have literally known ME from the very beginning stages of my career.
It was with them that I learned so many of ‘the basics’ about being a race horse
and the foundation for my early lessons about equipment, riders, galloping, jogging,
and breezing down the lane was established.
I stayed with them until the beginning of May of my two year old year…and then I
was off to Barn 55! It was absolutely FABULOUS to see April and spend some time
with her! I even got to show her MY BABY BUMP! So much has happened in the
last several years since I was a ‘darling little yearling’ living in Ocala!
SUCH WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL MEMORIES!
It has really been an eventful week. This is very special! A second party contacted
the Breeders’ Cup on Wednesday afternoon and asked if they could MATCH
the $11,200 donation to the V FOUNDATION for the Breeders’ Cup Experience and
VISIT WITH ME! They really wanted to participate in all of this!
The BC emailed Dottie and told her of this request. Needless to say, we agreed to help
and were more than willing to make this happen. Thus, it is now $22,400…that
will be contributed to the V FOUNDATION for this BC Package and VISIT WITH ME!
Then yesterday afternoon, I was able to TANGO on the phone with ANN and wish her
a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! She was very excited to hear from ME…and SEE ME!
During our visit, she added one request…she wanted ME to be sure and THANK ALL
OF YOU FOR THE WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY GREETINGS! She was truly touched by
ALL of your thoughtfulness!
It has really been a quite a busy and FUN week. I have so enjoyed touching base with
so many of my dear friends…and of course, MY TEAM….and ALL OF YOU!
HAPPY FRIDAY!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Dearest Sweet “Z” and little “z”,
I’ll ‘bet’ there will be a new hoof print today! I will check back in a couple. Hope you are both enjoying your breakfast in sunshine.

To Terry C: Very Cute! I like the consolation joke! Do you know what happens to a white horse when it rolls in the mud? It has fun!
Diana S
@All: Lurking only this morning, waiting for new Z Hoofprint #299 and heading off to work.

@ Diana S – I love that – “lurking while waiting for #299.” I think we all are probably lurking with you.
@ Charlotte Farmer hope the news that you’ve reached your goal is correct – great effort and such commitment. Hope we get pictures posted somewhere of the final results. Safe travels on your journey.

@Charlotte Farmer-Very good news on the fund raising. It just goes to show what a very determined person with a legitimate cause can accomplish. I do not believe that anyone else could have done this and saw it through to a satisfactory conclusion. Diana S suggested this in a previous post but I think that it bears repeating. This has the makings of a TV movie. I am surprised that some producer has not latched on to this. At any rate, congratulations for a job more than well done.

To all above posting about feral cats. My vet here, just outside of Atlanta, was probably the first one that would spay/neuter ferals for a ridiculously low fee. She solicited the rescue groups that would trap ferals and spay/neuter for them and give a 3 year rabies shot. She also went to classes to learn the safe way to do pediatric spay/neuter for cats and dogs so that the humane societies and rescue groups could get the babies spayed/neutered before adopting. This was a good 10 to 12 years ago and when I worked for her for 1-1/2 years, I watched her neuter and spay kittens and puppies as young as 3 to 4 weeks old with no fatalities. Altering at this young age does not affect the normal growth or development of the puppy/kitten. There have been numerous studies done all across the country to back this up. I’m all for it and support these groups whenever possible. In fact, I have trapped several cats that come on my property, put them in a crate and taken them to the vet to be altered and get a rabies shot. There are people that live down the road from me that have a “free kittens” sign on their mailbox 2 or 3 times a year. I finally figured out that the cat involved was a pretty little calico and I trapped her one day, took her to the vet and got her spayed. I got her back that night, kept her overnight and let her loose the next morning. That was the end of the “free kittens” sign on that mailbox. Thumbs up to anyone to helps ferals – they need it!

@Sharon Call– Good for you! Great idea!

@Sharon Call good info I finally got all of mine spayed/neutered but now I have 2 more waiting – neither were feral – just abandoned – people moved away last Jan. and left their cat outside – I finally won his trust and got him inside. The other one just appeared at my barn – beautiful black long haired male – very friendly – I’m sure someone just dropped him off. I got his vaccinations and had him tested for feline leukemia and he’s currently waiting. I use the certificate’s from CCA (Concerned Citizens for Animals). You can download an application from their website, send them $40 (for cats) and they send a certificate to take to certain vets. I don’t know if this is available everywhere or not. Dogs require $50.

@Terry Crow – I love the joke and please don’t stop them. These days I am in need of humor. As of late I keep misplacing my brain and get so frustrated. I just got off the phone with the Courier-Journal in Louisville. I think it is going to be a really nice article as the young lady ask me questions that had not been posed before. The interview lasted almost 2 hours. I just sent her pictures and some follow up materials for referencing. Terry I must say that when you got ahold of Dwyre the starting gate opened up and what a ride it has been. All of you, each and everyone who post here on Zenyatta’s site are responsible for making sure this prince of a horse sleeps the sleep of angels. I need to go and get something into my stomach and hopefully I can find where I have misplaced by brains.
Karen Gogue
@Charlotte
You may have misplaced your brains – although not for long! – your heart has certainly not been misplaced! And the Angels of sleep rejoyce…awaiting the Prince in all his glory….to be laid down to heavenly sleep…at last…at last the Angel wings cover him with heavenly peace forever more….

Hello Zeny: You and April look so happy together. She is so lucky to have spent a lot of time with you. Congatulations on the news for the V Foundation. It is wonderful news that despite the economic downturn there are still many who can give for good causes. Hugs and prayers going your way! Marilu

Zenyatta, I’ll bet you were happy to see a couple of people who used to school you in Florida in your earlier years-pre-barn 55. You mention that she was in town for a yearling sale. I’ll bet you remember very well being a yearling yourself. I’m also happy about the party that contacted the Breeder’s Cup wanting to match their donation to the Jimmy V Foundation. I’m very glad they were allowed to do that. If I had anything close to that kind of money, I would seriously consider doing something like that myself. It is one very very worthy cause as well as an event I keep seeing advertised on TVG at the Del Mar Hilton scheduled for Saturday, July 23 which raises money for the rehabilitation, retirement, and career change for horses that have raced in California. I think it’s CARPA. I would definitely go out to Los Angeles, California and attend that event myself, and give money to the cause. I’m very bummed that I can’t. A horse is a horse and that is a worthy cause no matter where the horse raced. California is a great place to do it, though.

Lookin good Z, Love ya!!
