Good Morning,
I love this photo! This is my dear friend, April Mayberry, who came to visit ME while
she was in town this week for the Fasig Tipton Yearling Sale.
As many of you may know, I spent my very early training days with April and her Mom,
Jeanne, at the Mayberry’s Training Center in Ocala, Florida. Once purchased at the
September Yearling Sale, and my skin disease was cleared up, I was then able to
travel. Dottie made my vanning arrangements and I was off to Ocala to start my early
lessons with April and Jeanne.
They have literally known ME from the very beginning stages of my career.
It was with them that I learned so many of ‘the basics’ about being a race horse
and the foundation for my early lessons about equipment, riders, galloping, jogging,
and breezing down the lane was established.
I stayed with them until the beginning of May of my two year old year…and then I
was off to Barn 55! It was absolutely FABULOUS to see April and spend some time
with her! I even got to show her MY BABY BUMP! So much has happened in the
last several years since I was a ‘darling little yearling’ living in Ocala!
SUCH WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL MEMORIES!
It has really been an eventful week. This is very special! A second party contacted
the Breeders’ Cup on Wednesday afternoon and asked if they could MATCH
the $11,200 donation to the V FOUNDATION for the Breeders’ Cup Experience and
VISIT WITH ME! They really wanted to participate in all of this!
The BC emailed Dottie and told her of this request. Needless to say, we agreed to help
and were more than willing to make this happen. Thus, it is now $22,400…that
will be contributed to the V FOUNDATION for this BC Package and VISIT WITH ME!
Then yesterday afternoon, I was able to TANGO on the phone with ANN and wish her
a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! She was very excited to hear from ME…and SEE ME!
During our visit, she added one request…she wanted ME to be sure and THANK ALL
OF YOU FOR THE WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY GREETINGS! She was truly touched by
ALL of your thoughtfulness!
It has really been a quite a busy and FUN week. I have so enjoyed touching base with
so many of my dear friends…and of course, MY TEAM….and ALL OF YOU!
HAPPY FRIDAY!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Wonderful picture! Made me smile ear to ear. I saw April on t.v. when Zenyatta won HOTY. It is fantastic that another generous soul offered to match the auction winning bid. I am so glad Ann got to Tango with Zenny. Thanks to the Kennedys for the horse racing updates for tomorrow.

Dearest Zenny, LOVE this photo with April and the great news about your over-the-top fundraising! I’m late getting to my computer today, so I’ll post now and then go back to read what others have said today.
@Diana S—Love your humor! “Don’t want to be a Dumpling? Oops—too late! The group has sucked you in!” High hoof to you, and to all new Z Dumplings!
@DJ—Just now got the time to watch yesterday’s happy birthday video with the frolicking foals—too cute! Thanks for sharing.
@Judy Maass Gadwood (aka JAG)—Prayers for you and Mary continue.

This is a link to an online auction for the purpose of helping Promethia and her friend Buddy. I believe they are still accepting donations, in case anyone has an item to contribute, and I’m sure the fine folks who saved Promethia and Buddy would appreciate our attention to the support of these rescued horses. As you may remember, Promethia is Alydar’s daughter who nearly lost her life and does in fact only have one eye now due to neglect of prior owners. Both horses are safe and sound now, but of course there are costs associated with their care and thus the auction.
.
Queen Zenyatta we all appreciate your example of supporting good causes! Have a lovely weekend, you and Baby Z.

Hey Zenny, will you be coming out with 2011 calendars for next year maybe through the Z Foundation to raise more money for that ORG? You know your calendar sure has kept me going this year.
Everytime I get discouraged at work I see you racing on your calendar, & I think, ok, If Zenny can keep going, so can I.

Hi Zenyatta. Love the picture – you look awesome with April. Wow, that was great having a second family match the gift to the V Foundation for the Breeder’s Cup experience and of course, a visit with you!! You and your teams are so wonderful – you do so much good for so many people and horses. You are a gift from God. Love you big girl. Stay comfy, eat well for two and have fun with your paddock friends. Love you, Angel in Disguise.

@ Barbara Wood,
urinary tract infection aught to be cleared up with simple antibis. Some form of penecillin, I bet. Takes about a couple of days for them to take effect, poor Charlie hope he pees real good soon.
My late ‘Sky’, a huge Lynx point choco Siamese tommy, suffered from FUS Feline urinary syndrome, that’s when chrystals are blocking the opening of the urethra, and he couldn’t urinate. Very painful, got him to the vet in the nick of time. After catheterization, antibis. He was so outraged he bit the vet. He yelled going in and yelled commin’ out. He was a dandy.

@Susan in TN, re: your post on diary post #293 — Sorry it has taken me so long to get back, I was on vacation in Yosemite this week! Yes, Hollywood Park let The Second Race set up for free, they even provided the table and umbrella. We were in the paddock area. I believe Sharla is going to try to do the same fundraiser at Del Mar too, since it went so well!
Most of the money collected was for raffle tickets (a lovely signed/numbered lithograph in a nice frame) — if you are planning to do fundraising for your rescue organization, raffles are the way to go! :)

@judy berube – Thanks for the vid, I remember that race well, Mike and Chantal were trading paint in the lane and Chantal took the worst of it but still keeped 3rd. That was one powerful ride by Mike that day, fearless, but he would have never made that move if he had to go inside. I think Mike is still a little rail-a-phobic from his days in NY and Chantel knows his fears. I think he will best her in most of the races they are both in leading up to the match. On ladies day through I look for Chantal to have the outside position for the final drive and I hope she will win that one. They can both be very aggessive.

Yes, a 2012 Zenyatta calendar would be just the ticket for my kitchen. Zenyatta, I love this picture. You look rested and happy. Oh, how I miss you. XOXOXO
Michelle
I just love you and love hearing from you. It always brightens my day.

Love the calendar idea! I always get a horse calendar and I can’t think of a better one than Z. Zenny…you look so cute with April. Hey Dumplings…anyone going to DelMar on July 23-24? Hope to meet some of the group!!

@ Barbara Wood: Prayers from me & my guy, Jericho. It sounds to me like he’ll be fine once he gets some antibiotics. I would suggest glucosamine for the weak hind leg(s). Jericho has arthritis in both hind legs and the glucosamine he takes has an amazing effect — 4 years later and he’s pain-free.
Zenny: This is just a beautiful shot of you and April. You look like two old, old friends here.
John: Welcome!
JAG: Thinking of you.

Zenny and everyone, have a great weekend, a lot of fun things going on. Be safe and Lotsa love to all.

Hi Zenny: You are certainly a very lucky girl–Big Girl! They say a good beginning is very important. Just like a Kindergarten teacher–if their students get off to a good start, it will be the foundation for all future learning. The Mayberry’s gave you a GREAT start Zenny and it showed throughout your racing career.
@The Kennedys in San Diego: I was considering driving to Delaware Park to see the race with Blind Luck and Havre de Grace! Unfortunately it is not going to work out. I’ll be watching the race on HRTV instead. Should be very exciting. Also, good luck to John and the Moss’ this weekend.
@John—Welcome!!
@Trina Nagele: Hope all is well with you! I’ll have to go back to see if I can find the link to the video of the frolicking foals.
@Judy (Maas) Gadwood/JAG–My prayers are with you and your sister.
