Good Day Everyone!
Speaking of SLEEPING BEAUTY…..I’d like you to meet BRONZE BEAUTY!
She is an adorable 2 year old filly (by Latent Heat) who lives at Barn 55.
She finished her appetizer (in the little black bucket MY JOHN always had for US)
and then totally relaxed and took a nap.
The curious part of this is that she also did not want to ‘miss a thing’. She kept her
head close to the door to ‘check out’ what was also going on in the barn.
I remember it well! When I was at Barn 55, we would all be in our stalls after our
training, baths, and breakfast. Then between 12 and 3 each day, My John always
wanted everything nice and quiet and relaxed for us in the barn! It was our special
time to really stretch out, take it easy and rest! (Just like Bronze Beauty is doing in
this photo!)
During this time, he also kept the fans running for 2 reasons: (1) to keep the barn area
nice and cool for us and (2) allow the humming sound they provided to serve as a bit
of a distraction from all of the outside noise that could go on during this time.
Dottie teases him about this often…saying it is like providing a safe environment
and scheduled NAP TIME for a baby! My John just smiles. I know he really feels having
a routine is very important for all of us! Then, of course, in so many ways I know he
looks after ALL OF US as though we truly are his adorable “DUMPLINGS”.
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Remember the show Cavalia? it’s star, Templado, died in 2008 but Frederic Pignon continues to teach the principle of a horse ” at liberty.” Here he is performing with Lancelot — soo beautiful you just won’t believe it! (I think of you Zenny & your dancing as an act of freedom in the same sense!)

@Lucia, Thanks for the HUG…really needed one!! Back to you….

@S in San Diego, Marshall, DMCQ, Trina Nagele, Kari Bussell and Kim S -Heartfelt thanks. @Sue Fredrick-Glad to know that someone will be here to carry on. @Karen Gogue-Slim Pickens was one of the main players in the all time cowboy movie, Blazing Saddles, and was one of the leading players in the campfire scene. He probably liked eclairs.@Gary Moulton-Thanks for the poem. The closer I get, the more attention I pay to stuff like this. Your memory about Slim Pickens is spot-on.@all- I am still formulating my response on track surfaces. @Anne from Paramount-I have a strong opinion on Frank Stronach. No need to be mean here. Today’s joke–Three cowboys of the world were sitting around the campfire trading stories about how tough they were. With each story, the tales grew taller and taller. The cowboy from Australia said “I wrestled a 200 pound croc and made it cry like a baby.” The cowboy from Brazil said “That’s nothing. I killed a 400 pound steer with my bare hands.” The cowboy from Texas just smiled and continued to stir the campfire with his leg.

Awwwww…. that is very cute. John is the greatest!
Barbara Wood
@the Kennedys–thanks for the update on Uncle Mo. Sounds good.
@Sarah Powell- wow–you have you work cut out for you with all those animals. Bet it keeps you hopping. I’m with you–I would want background checks, etc. too!
Yes, it’s still miserable in TX–105 for the next week at least. I’m glad our horse gets to nap in the barn with fans running in the heat of the day. Puts them to sleep. They are turned out at night, but there’s not much grass.
Barbara Wood
Forgot to thank Dottie for the adorable picture of Bronze Beauty. OUR John’s horses are the luckiest in the world! He treats them with respect, and horses can tell when people love them.
Rosemary McCauley
Bronze Beauty certainly appears to be a beauty.

Oh Zeny – this picture is just adorable. Bronze Beauty is enjoying her nap. What a great dad John is for all of you. Sure reminds us how nap time is so important growing up. This is a beautiful example of how spoiled you all are in Barn 55. You are all so lucky to have John and everyone else that works there take care of you. How is Mario doing? Hugs and Kisses going your way! Marilu

Looks like Bronze Beauty is enjoying her nap time. John is the best trainer I have ever seen, he realy cares about the horse’s that have been put in his care. I have a quick question Z, what stall is Eblouissante in, and how is her training coming along? Have a great day Queen Z.
nancy
Ah the life :) BB looks like just what a life I have. Your right Z Too Cute.
Yeva
Soooo Cutteeee!!!!!!!!
Margaret
Horses that are totally relaxed and comfortable within their environment will not only lie down but be flat out on their side. By being flat out they are totally vulnerable to mother nature.
Many times you will see them in a half sitting/lying down position. They are getting rest. But the full flat out is similar to humans in rapid eye motion sleep (also known as REM sleep)
Debbie
hi Z! oh my, that photo is definitely TOO CUTE;) as is YOUR story about John and Barn 55! YOU were so fortunate to have John as YOUR trainer!!! YOU stay cool gorgeous mama! love YOU xoxoxo
Wendy in St. Louis
Being a city girl, I don’t know horses well. Is there ever a time when horses sleep upright? When they lie down, do they change positions? Do they sleep for long periods, like thru the night? Can you suggest a book that would teach me all about horses.
Barbara Grimaldi
Well, here I am back at Zenyatta University waiting for Dean Diana to tell me I’ve been approved for the Dumpling major! The learning opportunities here at ZU rock!
FRANKLIN: to all the wonderful people here who posted links to see this magnificent stallion–a genuine thank you! I had never even heard of him! Zenny, is your dance card full for 2013? I think we have a British heartthrob who wants to dance! In fact, precious Z–Franklin DOES dance! Fred and Ginger, move over!!!! (Please heaven, make their genes match!!)
THE KENNEDYS–loved the video of BL AND HDG and love all your notes
JUDY B and TERRY C et alia: I had no idea that track surfaces do NOT reflect the soil of their location! Thank you, two of the hundred great professors at ZU!!!
MAX: thank you for posting the artice on Bobby Franklin–he surely was man after my own heart whose love of animals is so moving
SUSAN IN TN: as an old academic myself, I am so impressed by your daughter’s achievement…if I were you, I’d be bursting the proverbial buttons! Congratulations!
KARI B: Winter Memoriess–WOW! Love these mares who come from behind and win!!! Love these mares, period! Kari, ever since I saw the video (4 times so far) of Time to Say Goodbye, the song is in my head and I cannot shake it! (Last time that happened was when a silly song from long ago lodged in my brain: The Boys from Bristol Are Sharp as a Pistol, when They Do the Bristol Stomp!!!! I have a wide range of musical tastes!) Kari, that song was so perfect for the video…elicits tears even when it continues to spin in my brain long after seeing the video
GARY MOULTON: love the gratitude and faith you express to the Eternal for giving us these wondrous animals, these phenomenal thoroughbreds. And I absolutely adored the Reincarnation poem! Not Wordsworth or Frost, but certainly worth a cowboy rating of 9 saddles out of 10!
J SMITH: yup, neophytes should bet for show for awhile until they get the whole picture. Actually, does anyone get the whole picture? I buy all the DRF charts before I go to the track and study for hours–and do so-so. If I only use the measly listings in the daily paper that only gives horse name, weight, race designation and purse–I win far more! Go figure!
TRINA N: YESSSS!!! Classy Z-gear–soon!!!! I have bought 7 different Zenny shirts and only two are really good, one of which I will wear on Sunday at the Haskell. I want gear that is high, high quality to match our beloved Zenyatta’s class and quality.
LIL IN KY: healing thoughts and blessings to you
MARYYETTE: your wish has been mine for years–may we all see it come true sooner than later
BRONZE BEAUTY: if this isn’t an adorable photo, I’ll eat my keyboard! You just want to crawl in near her and listen to her deep breaths. She is safe and happy. And yes, Mr. John Sherriffs is one amazing empathetic and sympatico trainer of horses…his brilliance is manifested in the results of his care. Is there such a thing as a trophy for the best trainer in racing? This man deserves around a dozen, please–wrap them nicely and send them asap.
JAG–really enjoyed the Zenny at home pix!!
TERRY–I laughed out loud at today’s joke–where in heck do you get them all??? Keep them coming!!!
Love, health, happiness to all the Dumpling majors at Zenyatta University! I’m so happy to be a freshman here!!!!!!

More on the Haskell. We will be rooting for Shackleford. Although Coil at 3-1 will be interesting and he is a Southern CA (Baffert) trained horse.

@Ingrid — Love hearing about the habits of famous horses — had not heard that Man O’ War slept with his head out of the stall.
