Good Day Everyone!
Speaking of SLEEPING BEAUTY…..I’d like you to meet BRONZE BEAUTY!
She is an adorable 2 year old filly (by Latent Heat) who lives at Barn 55.
She finished her appetizer (in the little black bucket MY JOHN always had for US)
and then totally relaxed and took a nap.
The curious part of this is that she also did not want to ‘miss a thing’. She kept her
head close to the door to ‘check out’ what was also going on in the barn.
I remember it well! When I was at Barn 55, we would all be in our stalls after our
training, baths, and breakfast. Then between 12 and 3 each day, My John always
wanted everything nice and quiet and relaxed for us in the barn! It was our special
time to really stretch out, take it easy and rest! (Just like Bronze Beauty is doing in
this photo!)
During this time, he also kept the fans running for 2 reasons: (1) to keep the barn area
nice and cool for us and (2) allow the humming sound they provided to serve as a bit
of a distraction from all of the outside noise that could go on during this time.
Dottie teases him about this often…saying it is like providing a safe environment
and scheduled NAP TIME for a baby! My John just smiles. I know he really feels having
a routine is very important for all of us! Then, of course, in so many ways I know he
looks after ALL OF US as though we truly are his adorable “DUMPLINGS”.
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Diana ~ you weren’t the only one nodding off last night!! OMG!! I just noticed MY typo: “Excuse me, but I think you’re in my box!” I meant to type “in my BOOK” What a doofus I am!!! LOL :-D Motto never type anything when it’s late!

Good morning Big Mamma!! XO

Trainers like your John make it fun to bet horses. We know they are well taken care of and loved for who they are. A happy horse is pleasure to watch race.

@Evangeline Downs – There is a Jan. (Giacomo) 2 yr old filly in the “JOHN FRANKS MEMORIAL SALES STAKES” race 9 (post time 10:16 pm est.) a little late for you west coaster’s. She is a 2nd time starter, 2nd time Lasix, coming out of open company, both horses that beat her in her 1st start came back to win and she finished well in that race, highest class rating, she gets first time blinkers, a 4 lb. weight break, a new trainer and a top jock. She has it all and looks to be well spotted. I think she will be coming at the end. The Moss’s don’t own her and I like her name because I’m a card player #10 “Cut the Deck” Morning line 6-1 and if she goes off an overlay she might be a good play.
.
@DMCQ – I’m delighted you got a good laugh and you are right about that balanced perspective. It’s so easy to get off balance when you’re sad.

Dear DMCQ:
You’re welcome. Always enjoy your posts. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Gary Moulton:
Good luck today. I picked different horses than you did in the 9th at the Spa. Went with what I think will be value. That Giacomo filly, Cut the Deck, sounds like a good bet. Hugs, J.B.

Thank you for another tidbit of information on how Mr. Shireffs runs Barn 55. The afternoon nap sounds wonderful! Just another way that he shows the respect that he has for these marvelous animals. I bet there’s a waiting list to get into Barn 55!
Wishing a happy and safe weekend for everyone.
Take care of yourself and your little Z. When my mare was in foal, I would talk to her baby all the time. I would call her my little JellyBean and kiss Mom’s tummy. Sending kisses to both of you!

Dear Kathryn Cogswell:
Those sculptures are so lifelike and beautiful. I like your reference “sailing with Awad”. Ms. Turner brought tears to my eyes with her description of her love for him. Very well written. Hugs, J.B.
Kari Bussell

Dear DJ;
Enjoy your banter back and forth with Diana S., Kathryn Cogswell, Terry Crow, Gary Moulton and other Z Fans. Very funny and clever. Also look forward to Morning and Evening Prayers. KC was worried about you last night, but I saw you posted the Evening Prayer and told her I thought you might have retired early after a hectic day. Take care. Hugs, J.B.
DJ
@Teacher: Can I go play with my Z Blog friends now?
@DJ: Did you share a prayer?
@Teacher: yes
@DJ: Did you give JB hugs?
@Teacher: Yes.
@DJ: Did you say hello to everyone and not give Gary M. a bad time regarding his race card and Diana S. just a bad time in general?
@Teacher: I tried.
@DJ: Then, no you cannot. Do your chores and wait for Happy Hour. Terry C.’s joke will be waiting and you can laugh then!
@Teacher: :(
Kari Bussell
@Sue Fredrick just to make sure since there are two of her that might fit your description, are you referring to the photo at 2:2O?
Kari Bussell
@Judy Berube- That is one of my all time favorite photos. the way Mr. Shirreffs looks at her with so much love and respect. He looks at Giacomo,Tiago and All the others the same way…that is one of the many reasons he is my hero….I tease my husband (I KNOW he loves me and he shows it) that in 30 yrs he has never looked at me with the unconditional, pure , gentle love & respect that Mr. Shirreffs looks at all of his horses…My husband did look at The Queen that way finally at CHD when she extended that beautiful swan neck of hers towards the heavens to pose for us mortals…

@all-I did not realize just how smart Zenyatta was. her explanation about the makeup of Santa Anita’s main track was spot-on. Generally speaking, a race track is about 18 inches deep, with various layers. The type of track that results is due to the various components added at each level. It is apparent that not enough sand was added to last year’s track. The result was that the surface was especially hard and injuries resulted along with the swift times. It is no wonder that Breeder’s Cup officials are concerned with the surface. However, it would seem hat these problems will disappear, more or less, when the new track is finally finished. Belmont Park is called Big Sandy because of the great amount of sound used on its surface. Of course, it is subject to much more rain than Santa Anita is. There are exceptions to every rule, however. Artificial tracks are a whole other ballgame. No two tracks in California which have artificial surfaces have the same type. @Barbara Grimaldi-Thank you. @Trina Nagele-Neither you nor Karen Gogue are over the hill, from what I have observed. @JAG-Ditto. @Judy Berube and Brenda S-The problem is that every time one gets a twinge in that area you think that you have another one. However, my doctor tells me that I am clear. However, he didn’t guarantee anything. @Gary Moulton-I recognize you as a good handicapper. However, I do not bet Del Mar. It is a great place to visit, socialize and to watch the races. However, I have it in my mind that I don’t have a chance there. @Kim S and Diana S-Hope today’s koke doesn’t disappoint you. Warning, I had to edit this joke. I think that you will see what I mean. Cowboy Frank was killed in a stampede and his face was badly mutilated. The morgue needed somebody to identify him, so it sent for two friends of his, Slim and Rusty, to make the identification. It was well known that the three of them did everything together. Slim and Rusty arrived, and the mortician pulled back the sheet. “Gosh,” they both said, “his face is almost gone. Can you turn him over?” The mortician thought that this was an odd request, but did so. After the body was turned over, they both said “That ain’t Frank.” “How can you tell,” said the mortician. Slim and Rusty then replied, “Everyone knows that Frank had two a-holes.” “what do you mean?” said the mortician. “Well, when we all went to town, people would say here comes Frank with the two a-holes.” Sorry about this, but I couldn’t think of an easy way to edit it, other than what i did.
Terry Crow
that should be sand used on its surface
Kathryn Cogswell
Terry Crow: I swear I read, “Artificial tracks are a whole other ballerina.” And it made perfect sense. None of you need correct typos; I`m making it up as I go along. Thanks for the links, All .. . And ‘jb’ for being Hall Monitor. Kc.
Kathryn Cogswell
‘Well, when we went to town, people would say . ..’ [~ TerryC., I have fallen off the wicker chaise on the portal upstairs & frightened the birds with Frank`s ID].
Fran
Very sweet Z. Bronze is resting comfortably-crashed really! Hope your day is going good. Have a wonderful weekend. xxoo
judy berube
Dear Terry Crow:
Hysterical. I join KC in falling off the chaise. Ha, ha. Hope you’ve had your last twinge. Good report on track surfaces. Hugs, J.B.
