Good Morning to All~
Happy Tuesday! Everything is moving right along perfectly at the farm. I am able to go outside with my pal, Tasty Temptation, and relax for hours at a time. As you can see in the photo, I am just like so many of you. My coat gets ‘lovely high-lights’ from the sun and I do need to have my ‘sunglasses’ (aka fly mask) on when outdoors.
I must say, this mask is a fabulous accessory to have. Not only does it keep the flies off of my face and away from my eyes…but it also screens out some of the sun and direct light…which is quite helpful!
We have had really warm weather recently. I’ve heard that it is also quite warm back home in Arcadia (by Santa Anita). Dottie looked up the temperature for today and it is to be 93 degrees in Lexington. It is even a bit warmer than that in Arcadia. As I have mentioned before, Charles and the guys here monitor how hot it is for ME. If too warm, I am taken back to the barn where the fans are keeping it nice and cool. I must say, I am one very lucky girl!
It is also the first of the month and as MY TEAM requested, they weighed me. I am gaining just the right amount of weight for this stage of my pregnancy. YIPPEE! I am eating all of the right foods and drinking LOTS of water to stay properly hydrated….so this is all good! I’m really trying to do all the RIGHT THINGS here to be a GREAT MOM!
In racing, for many of the major race tracks, today is a ‘dark day’…meaning the tracks are closed. So for quite a few people who work with the horses, this is a more relaxed day and they have some time off. Whether going to the lake, to play golf, or to have fun in the ocean, I hope everyone remembers to be careful in the sun, drink lots of water, and wear your ‘sunglasses’….JUST LIKE ME!
Have a very pleasant day!
With love,
Hugs to All~

@Christine in Michigan – When I ask why *Noor was put down the answer was he was having seizures, and the word dementia was added. Next time I see Dr. Peek, which will be soon I will ask him to clarify. I try not to take Dr. Peek back to that day as I know it really bothers him.

@Sunny Boyd—Your Zenyatta poem is a masterpiece—thanks for sharing.
@Kate Wheeler—Your post was marvelous on so many levels. Thanks especially for that moving poem you directed to Signofthetimes and her beloved Katlyn. And yes, I agree, this wonderful website is definitely addicting!

@Judy Berube–Meant to thank you too for the petition link.

@Kari
Doesn’t it have that ‘smell’ of Zenny? I am smiling now too! To have ‘that’ something that is her’s so close is truly heaven….bless the very ground that she walked on, worked on and played on for it will never be replaced. The heart is thumping with a mild skip of a beat at the thought….near, yet so far, and dear….

Dear Q Z ~ Please stay cool during these hot summer months and enjoy that beautiful “blue grass” which will give your little Zendini a healthy start in life ~ all the BEST to you and your little one !!! :)

@Kari Bussell—Please don’t be afraid to call—I’m just like my dogs–I don’t bite! And you have taught yourself much more than I may ever know about making and posting videos. I have no idea how to do that! Judy Berube has given me much too much credit in calling me a techno-wizard, but some of the little that I know could be helpful to you and others, and you know that I am a teacher at heart. Teachers just love to help others learn. Remember to start to leave a message if you call because I always wait to hear who is calling before I answer. 805-525-3630.

It is not fashionable to eat horse. Hi, Any: Until the foreign markets no longer have a consuming market, the other end of this deplorable state where horsepower devolves to horseflesh will not be dissolved. It is simply not fashionable to eat horse. The AD Council created a film showing an indigenous warrior weeping; from that image, an entire earth-care movement began. It`s just not fashionable to eat horse. Back to the rock pile. Khc.

Queen of our hearts, it’s wonderful to see you looking so well, showing your highlights! Thanks to all for the great links and info. If anyone is going to beautiful Del Mar this month for the Oaks, maybe we’ll see you!

Happy Wednesday now to you to “Z”! We are having quite the heat wave here in Missouri. My OTTB, Robin, agrees with you that the sunglasses for time outside (aka the flymask) is an absolute necessity. Glad to know you are taking all the proper care of yourself. Love you big girl! Roseann in Missouri

Just to let you know, Zen, you look fabulous with your fly mask. I can’t wait to see more baby bump! Hugs and cool peppermint kisses!!! Love you baby girl!
To those of you that made comments on the recent tragedy of horse slaughter, at first I didn’t know what you were talking about until I saw the link. I could only bare to read part of the article! It just sickens me that some owners and trainers feel that way about their steeds. They are their bread and butter!!
I was in the business as a rider for a long time and saw a lot of tragedy. Some, I don’t care to remember but, it’s always in the back of your mind when, you hear about something like this.
All Powerful Zenyatta, can’t you influence this a long with your team?? Horses, no matter the breed, or discipline, all deserve the proper treatment and love!! They give so much in return!!! Too sad and heartbreaking.

@ ALL
Thank you to everyone who has responded,I hesitated to post on this subject, the subject is not fun and pleasant and I know you come here to read about lovely Z.
We alone won’t stop slaughter but we have ended it here in the States, the next step is to stop transport to Mexico and Canada. That will impact slaughter houses there. Cut the supply off. If we can slow down the flow and stop it completely then that is another step. There is no magic bullet to the problem, but baby steps can eventually end it here. The rest of the world, well, you have to began where you can make an impact , so you do what you can. AGain I am sorry to bring such a sad subject to Z’s beautiful board .
Love ya Z
Amy
Zen – You look really good and glad you’re taking care of yourself. It’s important to be safe in this hot weather, so, enjoy being indoors and keeping cool. God Bless You!

@To Sunny B: THANK YOU for that exquisite poem – it truly touched my heart. I will read it again and again and very well may have it printed and framed. You have an incredible gift – thank you so much for sharing this touching masterpiece with all of us who love horses and ESPECIALLY our beautiful Lady Z!
Carmela Bozulich
:Lady Z–the coat bleaching looks good on you…you look great, fly mask & all!
Sunny Boyd
Good morning Zenyatta,
hope you and T. T. are out and about at the crack of dawn, munching on that good Kentucky Blue Grass.
@ To all who enjoyed reading my poem, thanks.
I thought the picture above expressed what I was trying to express. When dawn is just barely awake, it’s a magical time anyway, just as twilight is. There’s just sthg about the obscure IMHO. And our Zetty prancing smack in the middle of it, makes it so much more delightful.
@ Terry Crow
Too funny Hahaha
Well, Zetty have a great day & stay cool.

SO IMPORTANT REPOST – Link to the PETA Petition for the Jockey Club to implement a policy to help save racehorses from slaughter. An actor from the Secretariat movie has spoken out to end horse slaughter and is encouraging the implementation of a Jockey Club Policy. Everyone please sign this petition at the link below and SHARE with all of your FACEBOOK Friends. I did. If we get it on FACEBOOK just think of the number of people we can reach. Every little bit we can do helps. I know we can’t save them all but we can sure try.

LOVE YOU Z and TEAM Z! I wish all horses could end up in loving care like you all give your horses.
LauraJ
@Michelle, I’ve enver seen anything to indicate the NTRA is pro-slaughter. NTRA is a marketing organization; it’s not a governing body and doesn’t dictate policy. (TB racing doesn’t HAVE a governing body, which is part of the problem.) FWIW, the NYRA has an anti-slaughter policy, as do a number of other tracks/track owners. Unfortunately, there is not much they can do once the horses leave the racing world.
Sunny Boyd
P.S.
I a MASH episode, Col. Potter expressed total dismay & outrage at the very idea of horseslaughter for the very sentiments expressed here by many. In other areas of the world domesticated cats & dogs are killed for consumption.
The selling of horses evtl. horseflesh is part of their income, breeders & trainers, I have suspected that much, that’s why it is called horse racing industry. Not horse racing fanciers,or horse racing welfare society. There is a certain amount of exploitation of the horses. Can you have a horse industry without it?
Roberta Smith
Hello my Pretty Girl! You look marvelous! Glad to hear you are eating and drinking lots of H2O to keep hydrated. You look amazing Zenyatta – I love you!

Last night I was so upset about the situation in West Virginia that I forgot to wish Zenny a good night. Please DO NOT ever feel the need to apologize for bringing up unpleasant subjects.I feel that is what we’re here for–to make our love for Zenyatta count for something beyond ourselves. Any Z fans who don’t want to be involved(I can’t imagine who that would be) can just skip over the hard parts.Well, last night I sent an e-mail to the track, and now I’m really boiling mad. It came back! And I sent it to the contact address on THEIR website. Outrageous. I’ll be glad to write a hand-written letter, but I don’t know who should receive it.
I signed the petition and would love updates, Barbara Grimaldi, as you find out more that we can do. I feel that bad press is something that they should want to avoid, and we need to make a BIG upraor. It doesn’t take many–rmemeber the theme of Zoe Bragg’s video. The “impossible” is possible. If I didn’t believe from a Biblical basis that horses go to heaven, I couldn’t bear it. Please forgive my going on so, but I am passionnate about this subject.
I’ve been wondering for some time too about the Mine That Bird movie. What a story. I’m hoping he will one day end up at the KHP or Old Friends.
Now–good morning, Z– I hope you slept well. It’s probably already steamy where you are.
Love and hugs to all.
LauraJ
@All, here is the address of Mountaineer’s parent company, if you would like to write to them. They also operate Presque Isle and Scioto Downs. I was unable to see if Mountaineer has an anti-slaughter policy—can’t get to the site due to a filter. Maybe someone else can check? In any event, you can ask them to institute one or enforce the one they have. I do know that they cooperate with CANTER Mid-Atlantic. Let’s please be polite and assume that these are decent people. Messrs. Dahl and Billhimer are most likely to be able to do something to prevent similar situations.

@Kari, that link to the Zenny and Make A Wish Foundation video is absolutely priceless. Everytime I watch videos of her running I cry like a baby. She is magical and always brings out the best in everyone.

I just noticed Zenyatta got the most votes for the 2012 Breeder’s Cup calendar! We all knew she was a cover girl!! Super excited!! No other horse could pull off the cover like our girl Zenyatta! :D
