Good morning everyone,
I hope you have had a very nice week. I have. It has been quite relaxing and peaceful here at Lane’s End.
Right before my team left Barn 55 for the summer (remember they had to take everything out for the every other year cleaning process) a friend of Anita’s (John’s sister) came to visit the barn.
He is an artist named Pema. He brought John a lovely piece which is meant to bring ‘good luck’. What a very sweet gesture on his part! Many thanks to him. For people in racing…luck is a very precious consideration!
In looking over the entries for this weekend…..the races look to be very exciting. Again, as seems to be the case during the summer seasons, there are quite a few major stakes races running around the country. They have definite implications as far as the road to the Breeders Cup is concerned.
David is currently at Saratoga for the next few weeks working. They have a yearling sale there next week. He also enjoys the opportunity to visit with the other horses he has purchased for clients and see the ones that have grown up from the matings he has planned for their owners. It is always so much fun to touch base. We horses….are like his dear friends!
Sarah will also be going to Saratoga to work for a few weeks. This is great news as Dottie has asked her to get some ‘fun photos’ from that venue for us to share with you in the diary. This will be so special to get an up to the minute report on the Saratoga happenings from these two people we know so well.
I’m off to stay cool under one of my favorite trees. Have a splendid weekend…enjoy the great racing…drink lots of water to stay hydrated….and most of all enjoy your time with your family and friends.
With love,
Hugs to all~ (especially my John’s mom, Mary Jane, who is truly not feeling well at this time)

Zenny, good evening precious moma and Baby Z. Sweet dreams this evening. Another weekend of amazing racing. You have drawn so many of us into the sport who might not have otherwise been so avid. That’s a good thing, and thank you for all that you have been teaching us about racing, training, the backside, etc. You are a teacher as well as an inspiration.
@Dottie: Thanks so much Dottie for being the voice of Zenyatta as well as everything else you do and Happy (impending) Birthday to you.
@JT and Sunny Boyd: DJ might not be offended by your attempted censorship, but I am, and maybe so are many others. You are not forced to read anything on this site that you don’t want to. Many of us mark the morning and the evening by DJ’s proffered prayers and hymns. You don’t have to, and I can respect that. This is a website of infinite variety and amazing depth and texture. We have people with many interests and extraordinary talents who share with all of us what is important to them. You Sunny, posted a beautiful, extraordinary poem you wrote honoring Zenyatta. I am one of many who have relished it and read it often. But you know Sunny, some people aren’t into poetry. They might not have appreciated your posted poem as much as others of us did. I urge you to reconsider your criticism and simply not read what you don’t want to. That’s so easy. And I urge DJ to continue posting prayers and hymns. After all, they are always prefaced with the statement that they are there “for all who are interested.” Apparently you are not, and that is just fine also.
@Shari Voltz: sounds like you had a really rough day. For what it is worth, you have our concern and support.
@signofthetimes: thanks for the link to the Clydedale snowball fight. What a treat.

Congratulations to Bernardini’s son Wilburn, who finished 1st by 1/2 length on August 7 at Monmouth Park in Race 9.
@Terry Crow—Loved the joke!
@Barbara Wood—Loved your joke too!
@Shari Voltz—Hugs to you after your difficult day. Bless you for trying.
@Jackie Feinberg—Loved your surreptitious posting via cell phone—the typos only make the degree of difficulty and the effort you put in more obvious. Loved the humor too. High hoof!
@JT—You can easily skip any post that you don’t care to read, so please just do that and don’t seek to deprive others who enjoy DJ’s prayers –and you know that many do because they have often expressed their gratitude to DJ. Furthermore, your assertion that DJ does this for herself and not for others is just plain rude and off-the-mark as regards your target, but I see it as a case of projection—what you accuse DJ of is true not of her but of YOU, sorry to say.
@DJ—Bless you for not being offended, but I’m with Kate Wheeler—offended on your behalf.
@All—I hope I didn’t violate the spirit of this site too much with my final remark to JT.

Judy Berube, thanks for the extra info on Red Rum. Too funny that he was all over the place for openings of things. I saw him opening a fair! He was an impressive fellow.
All, I love Curlin & Rock Hard Ten too, so I know you will like More Than Real. He is a beauty. There are great pix of him on his fb page. Why can’t I meet a guy like that! Oh, that reminds me, did anyone see a post on Zenny’s fb about a month ago from a girl who said she had either a Zenyatta hat or t shirt on, in the supermarket, and a guy started talking to her about Zenny, then asked her out! I wonder what happened. Anyone know? How cute is that, Zenyatta the match maker.

@God people lighten up. It was bad enough when Walnut Creek forbid the use of Merry Christmas to be used in store displays because one person objected and no one spoke up. DJ has been posting prayers for quite some time and until you came along all was quite. No one is forcing others to read everything that is posted on Z’s site, and for the most part we all get along and respect others ideas. If the religious aspect bothers you THEN don’t read the bloody postings. DJ you’re here like the rest of us, for the love of Zenyatta. Consider *Noor and me as one of your champions. The last time I looked it was a democracy, yes? How about we get back to the business of thoroughbreds and what is close to all our hearts—keeping their stories alive.
@Terry Crow – We could sure use one of your jokes and just for the record, I LOVE the jokes you post.

@JT: I am not the only non-Christian on this site, and probably not the only agnostic either, but even I appreciate the underlying sentiments and messages in DJ’s evening and morning prayers. You might do well to read between the lines yourself. If not, just skip to the next poster’s message and be done with it. Also, do not be so presumptuous as to try and speak about Dottie’s intent, or how the rest of us feel about DJ’s posts.

Dear J. Smith:
I did some reading on Red Rum and learned he lived to be thirty years old. That’s great. He passed in 1995. He was a gorgeous boy. Hugs, J.B.

All I have to say is AMEN!!!!
Please keep posting

Please feel free to skip any post you don’t like, but please don’t presume you speak for me and may God bless you.

I sooo understand your concerns with security but I’m also so distraught thinking I won’t be able to access and thereful help the fight thru your website. Is there anything to be done to show we’re “friendlys?” I’m not on anybodys list, just a follower of this gentle and grand website… I do understand if nothing can be done.

This is my third time visiting here assuming it was about Zenyatta and the horse industry. I am so disappointed at the lack of civility and self- centered attitude,ganging up on others for expressing there independent thoughts. Is this some kind of “therapy group of people using this site to get their emotional needs met? Poems and praying, I get that at church. I’m going back to DRF and Bloodhorse for my info on Zenyatta and her connections without all the other drama. Some of you are really sad and lonely sounding. Very disappointing. I expected much more.

Dear Signofthetimes:
Loved the Clydesdales snow fight. Hugs, J.B.

@Susan–Information on Zenyatta appears here before it hits DRF and Blood Horse–they get it from Zenyatta’s diary entries. Other than that, it’s very late, I’m tired, and I know I shouldn’t respond to you futher, but I just want to say “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.” (Sorry, everybody, I’ll be better tomorrow.)
Kari Bussell
@Susan -It is very unfortunate for you ,but you won’t be able to escape us at Bloodhorse …at least 5 of us, myself included have been featured because of our ’emotional’ attachment to Zenyatta….LOLOL-
PS- be sure to skip over the part where Jerry Moss (you know Zenny’s owner) reads the poem at the HOTY Awards….numerous comments and religious gestures by Mike Smith …I could go on and on with this…
Patricia
@Susan
Oh Dear, I’m so sorry you’re upset. I don’t think people were ganging up so much as they were expressing THEIR opinion on the subject. I also went back and reread the posts, which almost all asked JT to simply skip what she didn’t like and allow others to continue and enjoy as they preferred. Seems like a wonderful job of compromise to me. Washington, are you listening?? Probably not =)
Not only is this a site about Zenyatta and other horses, it is also a site of support, kindness, fun and education.
Please Susan, continue posting here, everybody has value…
PS. It’s not too late to make a donation to Valley View Ranch Equine Rescue for the Aug 8th feedlot rescue!!

Dear DNCQ: ‘somments’ is GOOD — AND descriptive: . .. som`e like `em; som`e don`t. .. . & also, KariB: Have you watched Disney`s ‘Miracle of the White Stallions,’ w/ vintage Robert Taylor [love his voice] as Colonel Alois [‘Louis’] Podhajsky, Lilli Palmer`s lines are wonderful in role of his wife Verena, and Curt Jurgens (sigh) even more so as the good German who slowly lost his soul, selling out over time, but was instrumental in a vital rescue of the Austrian Lipizzan Breed, begun in 1580. The film is based on Col. Podhajsky`s book, ‘The Dancing White Horses of Vienna,’ and he was a consultant on the film of The Spanish Riding School in Vienna, which had survived since 1735, to its darkest hour in 1945, just as WWII was ending. “Cowboy” was code for the true-storybook American operation George Patton ordered, and his fingerprints are all over the audacity of the rescue.
