Good Morning,
It is another lovely day here in Lexington. I know it is pretty in Del Mar with very comfortable weather in the low 70’s. MY JOHN and Dottie went to Arcadia on Monday to spend time with the horses John currently has stabled at Santa Anita. They commented it was really very pleasant for this time of the year…in the low to mid 80’s.
I’ve heard the East Coast has been much more ‘comfortable’ the last few days and they’ve had a bit of rain. Several of the turf races at Saratoga yesterday were taken ‘off the turf’ as the course was listed as ‘soft’ from the earlier rains.
Weather is such an interesting thing to contemplate. I must say that I do like it a bit on the ‘cool’ side. I know MY JOHN always commented that is one thing we horses enjoyed so much when going to Del Mar. You can actually ‘feel the ocean breezes in the air’. This type of environment really ‘perks you up’.
A resulting part of weather that is truly so fascinating to me is a RAINBOW!
“A rainbow is technically an optical and meteorological phenomenon that causes a spectrum of light to appear in the sky when the SUN shines on to droplets of moisture in the Earth’s atmosphere. It takes on a multicolored arc. Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of the sky directly opposite the sun.” **
On this morning, I think I saw MY OWN RAINBOW in the water that was dancing around my hooves. I found it rather interesting to observe. As you may know, I am a very inquisitive horse so I kept studying the different swirls and paths of the water as they circled around my hooves.
The cool water felt terrific…and the RAINBOW image that appeared was fun and curious to observe. Dottie was commenting to ME that to many people seeing a rainbow image means so many different things. She happens to believe they are LUCKY. Throughout the ages, rainbows and various references to them have been a part of art, literature, music and film. To so many people, RAINBOWS have been defined in various ways.
On this morning, it was a joy to observe and examine my own ‘little rainbow’ prancing around in the water by my hooves. To ME, it is just another illustration of how much joy one can have when taking a moment to truly appreciate the simple…yet oh so beautiful…things in life!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

@ Linda in NJ – What a coicidence I was also at the Alabama to see the race between Proud Spell and Music Note. It was a close one, but I was rooting for Proud Spell. I have always liked Larry Jones and was also a big fan of Hard Spun; talk about never giving up! What a horse. I couldn’t get tickets for the Travers so have a great time. I am rooting for Uncle Mo and Stay Thirsty!! I did get tickets for the Woodward, and as luck would have it my favorite Havre de Grace, Larry Jones, will run against the boys. I loved St Liam and was devastated when he lost his life in a paddock incident. He had an all too short life, and not a lot of sires, so I am happy that his “girl” is a star and I will be rooting for her! I see your posts a lot and have relatives in NJ. I’ve been to a Breeder’s Cup at Belmont and this year’s Belmont Stakes. I am hoping to make the Jockey Club Gold this year. Maybe we will bump into each other one of these days.

Zenny, you look beautiful and healthy. So glad to see this. It looks like they are taking stellar care of you. Good to see.

–> Greetings, fellow Zenyatta zealots! I’m a young college student who is one of the many young people turned on to horse racing by Zenyatta’s magnificent career. The reason I am writing, though, is to connect with others out there who have Zenyatta memorabilia.
You see, I have a front shoe which was worn by Zenyatta in 2008, during her first of 3 wins in the Lady’s Secret (G1). Having rooted for Street Sense in the Derby the year before, his win of course automatically made me a fan of all Street Cry’s (Ire) other offspring. I followed her from win #3, the El Encino, up until today. I wrote John Shirrefs (Racing’s greatest ambassador!) after the Ladies’ Classic to ask him if I could have one of her shoes as a keepsake, assuming at the time she would be retired. Of course she would go on to win the race another 2 years straight!
Anyway, I would love to hear from other who may own some similar piece of history. I am NOT some dealer, trying to buy anything; rather I would simply be interested to hear from others like me who were privileged to be given some other priceless piece of history from The Queen. Baby Z will be here before we know it (cheers!), and I believe time will prove that Zen could still kick butt on the racetrack, through her babies years, after she herself had left!

That was splendid, Zenny! Yes, the simple things in life, like observing rainbows, are food for the soul.
Thank you for constantly reminding us of what’s important, Zenny :)

YOU LUCKY, LUCKY MAN!!! I don’t own a horse shoe (other than John Henry’s), but I have lot of lithographs, prints, photos, programs, etc. of The Queen ~ and last, but not least ~ QUALITY TIME spent with her :-D

@Judy Sims and all who were touched by Judy’s link—Wasn’t the little mare Reckless incredible in her service? As Sue Fredrick mentioned, she has a fb page, the “Official Sgt Reckless Fan Club” fb page, dedicated to bringing her back from obscurity. http://www.facebook.com/ZenyattaOfficial#!/groups/sgtreckless/ Robin Hutton, leader of the fan club, is writing a book about her, and there are plans for a movie and a monument to her. High hoof to Reckless and her fan club!

You were “bathed in a rainbow” – neat! Thanks for all the great updates and thanks especially to Dottie for helping you write them. I imagine that it would be difficult to work a keyboard with hooves ;-)

I hope that the earthquake didn’t do any damage in Doswell, Va., and that Secretariat’s meadow in untouched. Didn’t feel anything here in Fort Erie but they are reporting some movement in Toronto. What is happening to the weather? On Sunday Goderich, a small town on the shores of Lake Huron was pretty well wiped out by a level 3 tornado. The town is very close to where Vic is hoping to go to college next year.

Beautiful girl! I think that rainbow is a little gift from God telling you that your child is going to be a pot of gold…just like her momma and her daddy! You are absolutely breathtaking! I know that your John and Dottie miss you very much as well as the Moss family. It is a privilege to have you here in the Bluegrass State. Love you bunches!

@Kari Bussell- I do want to add that all of us here in Waco have the utmost respect for Pat S. When she walked into the Ferrell Center here last year for our game, everyone en masse stood for a standing ovation. She was coach and mentor to our Kim Mulkey on the Olympic team of ’84. We’ll keep updated on how she’s doing I’m sure. Fortunately, she will keep coaching.

@ Trina Nagele : Thank you so much for the poem. I’m honored to have one special for me. I hope you don’t think I ignored the poem, since I posted on both sides of it without acknowledging it. This site is so interesting it’s hard to tear away to do things I need to do. So I quickly wanted to make a couple comments and quickly scrolled down to the Post section. As I sped by your poem (not realizing that was what it was – I thought it looked like one of DJ’s prayers). Then when I started looking at the new posts later, I started from the bottom. And just reached this gift from you I had been waiting for!!! :-) – another treasure at the end of the rainbow. I just remembered I saw a rainbow from my kitchen window yesterday. What a blessing all this coincides with Zenyatta’s rainbow Post. Praises to God always. What great things He has done. TRINA, the poem is perfect. A big Z Hug with Love, Arlene.
My comment above makes me think of a joke I wonder if Terry has heard: It goes something like:
A construction worker needed a wheelbarrow full of bricks up on top of a multi-story building. He tied it to a rope and started pulling it up. Then it started to come back down with him holding onto the rope…. He keeps getting banged up…
I’m sure you get the drift. I must get this posted before anymore time goes by!
Blessings, JOY and LOL to All. Love your dancing and your rainbow, Zenny – and of course YOU. Arlene

@JAG-No memorabilia can ever replace personal contact with Z. @Kathy Kimber -agree. @Sherry-Your points are well taken. The jockey you were trying to think of is Cheryl Charlton, one of the leading thoroughbred jocks at Los Alamitos. I don’t think Dave Weaver can be faulted for keeping his mouth shut. It might have cost him his job. And, agree that Shoemaker was the best ever, for the reasons you cited. An excellent post. @Kari Bussell-I don’t know your preference, but I like the Osbourne Brothers version of Rocky Top. I go to you tube once in a while to get my fix. All college coaches should have the same record as Pat Summitt when it comes to graduation rates.

Hi Z! Just got back on after having several days of problems with my computer. All is well now though. And, to see a rainbow surrounding you makes me simply smile. You are surrounded by good luck! Kate went back to school on Monday so the house is quiet. Em works and goes to college plus boyfriend so she sort of floats in and out of the house. Have a wonderful day Z! xxoo

Love you Z.

Dear Zenyatta What a beautiful picture and post. You always touch my soul. Sarah thank you for the picture and Dottie the mini science lesson :) Things in my world are so busy but that is the teaching field. I wanted to tell you that I have started telling the children about you. I have a boy in my class whose father is a Groom at Mountaineer. I told him he had to be apart of my horsey homeroom. He is so cute. He speaks Spanish and English. I asked him if he could teach us some Spanish. How cool is that? Well I have work to do Zenny. Just know that I love you and sing your song everyday. You make my heart sing. I am sending you many Hugs and Kisses, Shari XXXOOO
@ Dawn thank you for the making me feel good. Your words are like poetry :)
@ Kari your in my prayers. Like others in the Z family have said your videos are a gift to us all. We all are with you and Love you :)

It’s the inquisitiveness that adds that special zing to Zenny’s personality! Seeing her hooves in a watery rainbow–if that isn’t something an innocent child would do…just very impressed with what Dottie tells us Zenny is thinking!!!! This little Z story has sparkling innocence to it, and I love it. Thank you Zenny and Dottie.

@Judy Berube and Lisa g-Glad you enjoyed the joke. It might be considered a little racy for this site, but it is one of my favorites. You can substitute any other activity for water skiing. @Sharon in Seattle-Bless you and all others who are going through this ordeal. @Brenda S-IT looks like Green Bay and New England in the Super Bowl. You will have plenty of chances to lord it over your friend concerning NE and Buffalo. I went to the first Super Bowl out here in Los Angeles, but it wasn’t called the Super Bowl then. It was called the AFL-NFL Championship Game. You might be able to win a bet from your friend on that one. @Arlene-Good one, never saw that one before. You should become a regular contributor to the joke section here. My sense of humor is not for everybody.
