Happy Friday!
As you can see, I’m getting my BEAUTY REST and making sure that I am taking great care of myself these days!
Additionally, I want to get plenty of rest so I can be energized and watch all of the terrific weekend of racing on both coasts. I’m going to be spending tons of time with my guys here at LANE’S END handicapping and watching the races. The conversation around the barn is already heating up now on who likes who in which race…and why! It is great FUN!
From Saratoga, running the Travers and the King’s Bishop… to Del Mar carding the Pat O’Brien and the Pacific Classic to name a few of the quality stakes running the next few days, it will be one very sporting weekend.
Uncle Mo…is making his first start back in the King’s Bishop since ‘feeling under the weather’ around Kentucky Derby time. There are so many contentious 3 year old colts running in the Travers….that I will really have to study the FORM here.
Then in Del Mar, they are running The Pacific Classic which is their premiere race of the entire meet. My farm, Lane’s End, has a horse competing in the field…TWIRLING CANDY. So this is very, very exciting!
My friend, BLIND LUCK, and her connections decided to ‘skip’ the Pacific Classic for this year and have her compete on another path: The Lady’s Secret and if all goes well The Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic. These are both very distinguished and prestigious races….I know them quite well. All the best to her and her future plans.
Enjoy your weekend! Have a terrific time watching all of these high quality races! It is SO MUCH FUN! I can’t wait!
Hey, Matt, Charles, Mike, David and Sarah…who do you like???
With Love,
Hugs to All~

@ Darlene, First time I saw Caracortaga was last month at Del Mar. Acclamation got the best of him that day..racing form had him on the cover. So while I was really hoping Mr. Commons would win, I was happy for C, kind of redemption at the Del Mar meet.
@Karen…thanks for the translation :) (Think I’ll just call him C)

OOPS…I really do know how to spell his name: Caracortado

3:07 AM EST: Couldn’t sleep. Between 1:30 and 2:30 AM, in NW NJ, we had heavy rains and winds–BUT–they were coming from the north, not the south or east where the storm is! Weather map shows the hurricane was twirling around and the tail was hitting us from the north. I doubt it will come back again this way but with that twirling, who knows. Rhode Island is in its path and I hope Judy and Russ are OK there.
Brought in my Zenny Beyer statue from the living room and placed it on my dresser, so she is my sandman tonight.
How fortunate we are to have and to see this inspirational and perfect horse in our lifetime.
Hope all in the East are safe. Judy, please check in and let us all know that you are both safe and sound.

Dear Zenyatta. What a great day of racing this has been and more to come tomorrow. My special friend Mr. Commons did so well, he was so good looking and fun to spend time with when I visited Barn 55. He sure did like his carrot and apple cocktail from Steve. I was rooting Uncle Mo home, but he missed by just a little, so sorry he lost a shoe. The real gift was seeing him, healthy again. Stay Thirsty was wonderful, how great to see him coming into his own!! I was so excited cheering all of them on that my cat jumped off the couch and headed for another room I was disturbing her sleep with my shouts and clapping! Whew!!! Speaking of sleep, Zenny, I loved the picture Sarah took of you resting in your stall. I agree with everyone else that you are such a gorgeous, Sleeping Beauty!! I am so glad that you are taking such good care of yourself and your little one. Have a wonderful and restful Sunday, beautiful girl. Sweet dreams. Hugs and kisses. XXXOOO
@Marshall, Judy and all of you on the east coast, so glad you are getting through the storm with little damage, I will still be keeping my prayers going until Irene is over, stay safe.
@Shari – It was wonderful talking to you last night. I just had to wish my sweet friend a very Happy Birthday. Sounds like you and Larry had a good day at the craft fair!!
@Barbara Wood – Happy Anniversary to you and your husband!!!!!!!
@Trina – Your poems were wonderful.
@Kari – Mother and I have been to Nashville several times and always have wonderful memories of our stay. One of the best is a Christmas that my whole family spent together at the Opryland Hotel. My sister-in-law was still alive then. We loved each other very much and always had wonderful adventures together. While the rest of the family decided on an early evening, she and I went out for a walk. The night air was cold, but we had some warm cider and roasted nuts, we talked and talked, walking among all of the beautiful Christmas lights. It is one of the best memories ever! Mother and I were actually there just after the flood and it was amazing how much had been accomplished on the cleanup in such a short amount of time. We went to the Opry at the Ryman, because the Opry building was still closed and they mentioned how everyone was working with such a fantastic spirit of togetherness. I really regret that we did not get together this last visit. I would have really loved to have met you face to face.
@Charlotte Farmer, Kathy Kimber and Karen – The news and pictures shared about the beginning of Noor’s journey are wonderful. I couldn’t help a tear when I saw everyone working to find him, taking such care and then placing him in his beautiful box with the Loma Rica blanket. The love shown was amazing. My thoughts and prayers will be with you on your journey!
@The Kennedys – Once again, thank you for such a sweet story about our Zenyatta. Hope you have a wonderful time in Europe, you will be missed.
@Terry Crow – Thank you for providing some daily humor. I always enjoy a good chuckle!
@J Smith – Best of luck with the Trott function, I wish you a very successful event! It is such a great cause!!!
@Jag – The fawn rescue was remarkable. Thank you for sharing.
@RIP Calvin, what a senseless loss of such a sweet soul.
@Denise in AZ and Sharon in Seattle – Know that my prayers remain with you both.
Good Night To All!!!

*NOOR UPDATE:
For those who have not seen, go to Facebook Noor In Memory of a Champion. You can see the short video of the dig and some additional pictures of the truck being loaded and the bones. Also of Erin sifting dirt.
Not trying to be repetive but have received a lot of e-mails and want to try and just let you know what is happening. Char and Willy were to leavt Salt Lake by seven this morning. I do not know how far they will get today they are hoping it will be a long way. They are to pick me up tomorrow but don’t know what time. I need to go pack. ha ha.
So many of you care and it is so appreciated my guess would be that out of all who donated monies for *Noor’s journey and I’m just guessing I would think a third of it came from you people on this site who really got the ball rolling and made it happen. It is so appreciated and don’t ever think for one minute that it isn’t you are all appreciated every single one of you. The amounts you gave either large or small helped put us over. You are so awesome and when coming together people can accomplish so much. I sincerely mean that. I’ll do my best to let you know how all this goes because you are entitled to know. Won’t have access to a PC on the road (Know what I’m asking for for Christmas, tee hee just never thought of that before). But I will be in touch by phone with Karen Grogue. I want to publicly thank Ariadne Scott Delon for stepping up to the place and getting a lot of Press for us. She has been marvelous and I can’t thank her enough. As you know Diana S had to leave do to family situation and bless her we know family has to come first. Good luck Diana.
The dig was emotional Devora told me how a gauntlet of emotion came over her when they found bones and she held one in her hands. She knew this horse when she was a little girl as her father visted often. The Park brothers (Burley’s sons) were at the site as was Kitridge Collins (Charles Howard’s great grandson) and all grabed shovels and pitched in to help dig because a lot of it had to be by hand and took a lot of time. They recoved around 70per cent of *Noor and the dig was called at 3;23 PM PST. Erin said they would not be able to recover much else.
*Noor was located Fifty feet from what they thought was the original location why I do not know but over time I suppose that tremors and earthquakes could have possibly moved him as he was not contained. Anyway they did find him I believe that God was watching.
The Vet who put *Noor down was also at the site to help I think everyone there pitched in with shovels at one point or another. I’m so happy that *Noor’s extended human family could be there. I would have loved to have been but think it is more appropriate this way.
I intend to take lots of pictures and will try and share. Also sounds like we will be getting TV coverage at the buriel.
Again thank you each and every one.
And again blessings to those on the east coast coming thru this storm

Dearest Zenyatta,
You look very relaxed and beautiful—you definitely know how to take care of yourself and baby Z!
The races have been stupendous over the weekend and am looking forward to Del Mar’s great racing today. Yippee to Mr. Commons for such a valiant effort–he’s a darling.
Hope some of your picks won yesterday. Good luck today and have fun watching the races with all your barn pals.
Love and hugs,
Stel
Terry Crow
@Sharon in Seattle-Good one. @Trina Nagele-You may think you are a yankee, but keep in mind that Los Angeles is south of Washington, D.C. @Judy Berube-Good thoughts going to the east and especially Rhode Island. @Vicki B-Agree on Bob. @Debbie G-We will never know how good Swale might have been. The point was not to judge Seth Hancock on his reaction to Blame not being named HOY. He naturally was very disappointed as anyone would be. @JT-Seems to me that Mr. Commons was racing in front of the horse that barely caught him. Each horse has to be ridden as their ability dictates. If a jockey gains a reputation as good on a come from behind type it is because that is the way a majority of his top mounts needed to be ridden. I personally always liked Shoemaker on a front runner but most people preferred him on a stretch runner. Swaps won the Kentucky Derby wire to wire. Mike Smith is in the Hall of Fame. I would think that this would indicate that he knows what he is doing. @Marshall-I didn’t get one either. Hope you are safe. @Dawn Conrad-Thank you. @Susan in Tn-You might be a redneck if your baby’s first words are “Welcome K Mart shoppers.” Will post a joke later.

@Kathy- THANK YOU for the update- I feel like I as there and I can’t stop the tears- be safe, friend <3

@Linda in NJ: Hope all is well- maybe you are still in Saratoga??
Looking forward to hearing from all our Dumplingz!
Abigail from Montreal
Hi everyone!
I’m catching up too — it’s been a very busy few days. Sunday, a little after 11 a.m., we’re already hearing from Irene — high velocity wind and some rain. We won’t get anything like the East Coast got/will get, but it’s still looking like a very unpredictable kind of day.
ZENNY: You look lovely catching your Beauty Sleep. I just love the folded legs!
@SHARI V. Happy Birthday greetings! (Hopefully, your parcel will arrive this week. ) I hope you had a WONDER-FULL DAY!!!
@ Debbie G. Thank you so much for this update and for your efforts on my behalf. I really, really appreciate it.
@ Charlotte, Karen, Kathy K. and others of Noor’s family: It’s been just fascinating looking at the video and photographs of Noor’s exhumation. As I know you know: my heart rides with you. Next to Zenyatta’s 2010 BC Classic & HOTY, yours is the thoroughbred story of the year for me!
TO ALL : If you’re on the east coast, stay safe and if you can, please check in to let us know you’re fine. To all my Zen-friends, love & hugs from Montreal!
Susan in TN
@Terry Crow: LOL! I needed that!

@Kathy Kimber – contacting you from RI; I have power but many areas do not. Thank you for your updates on Noor and good luck on your journey. I will look forward to your updates and pictures.
@Linda in NJ – Did you make it to the Travers? Based on tv coverage it sounds like NJ was hit hard, and a lot of people are without power.
@all – Hope all Z-sters are weathering the storm and staying safe.
Susan in TN
@Dawn C: The Opryland Hotel at Christmas is magical and I’m so glad you have such a memory of your time there with your dear sister-in-law. The Ryman is very special, too- glad you were there!
Susan in TN
@Maureen B: Thank you for update! Hope you keep your power!
Susan in TN
@Barbara Grimaldi: That sounds scary! Hope you got some rest and still have power! Glad you had your Zenny <3
Debbie G
@Terry Crow – I complete agree. I think Mr. Hancock was just disappointed about losing HOY.
@Abigail in Montreal – No problem. I’m glad I can help. Jim left a note at Mr. Goin’s house yesterday to call him, so hopefully we’ll hear something soon.

@Karen Gogue
Honestly,my conversations with others are none of your business. I feel it is not my place to negate or criticize or “correct” someone else on this site. I enjoy and learn from diverse opinions and observations in all aspects of my life. We should feel safe to share our thoughts without fear of being told we are wrong or are disloyal. I adore The Mosses and check this site each day. I also read backside 55, John Shirreff’s facebook page, Eblouissante’s facebook and of course our “girl’s facebook page each day. People there are great and refer you to the latest racing news about owners, jockeys and trainers. Karen, I do not expect a response. We all come here to get the latest on Z. I have shown my friends pictures of her in foal. It is so exciting!
Vicki B.
Been worried about friends back East, in Mattapoisett, Mass (on the south coast), house “currently less than 1 km from shore”. A major gust made the upstairs bedroom doors swing like in a horror film. But he also posted “Auntie Em! Auntie Em!”, so we know they’re still ok, and hanging on, with that sense of humor.
