Happy Friday!
As you can see, I’m getting my BEAUTY REST and making sure that I am taking great care of myself these days!
Additionally, I want to get plenty of rest so I can be energized and watch all of the terrific weekend of racing on both coasts. I’m going to be spending tons of time with my guys here at LANE’S END handicapping and watching the races. The conversation around the barn is already heating up now on who likes who in which race…and why! It is great FUN!
From Saratoga, running the Travers and the King’s Bishop… to Del Mar carding the Pat O’Brien and the Pacific Classic to name a few of the quality stakes running the next few days, it will be one very sporting weekend.
Uncle Mo…is making his first start back in the King’s Bishop since ‘feeling under the weather’ around Kentucky Derby time. There are so many contentious 3 year old colts running in the Travers….that I will really have to study the FORM here.
Then in Del Mar, they are running The Pacific Classic which is their premiere race of the entire meet. My farm, Lane’s End, has a horse competing in the field…TWIRLING CANDY. So this is very, very exciting!
My friend, BLIND LUCK, and her connections decided to ‘skip’ the Pacific Classic for this year and have her compete on another path: The Lady’s Secret and if all goes well The Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic. These are both very distinguished and prestigious races….I know them quite well. All the best to her and her future plans.
Enjoy your weekend! Have a terrific time watching all of these high quality races! It is SO MUCH FUN! I can’t wait!
Hey, Matt, Charles, Mike, David and Sarah…who do you like???
With Love,
Hugs to All~

You ARE the ‘gems’ for sharing those priceless stories of The Queen’s life at Barn 55…
Delrene
Such a beautiful picture of you. So relaxed and comfy on your hay bed. Probably getting a bit more challenging to get up with your expanding baby bump.
Kennedy’s- have a great trip and thanks for the Z-gems.
Good luck to all horses and riders this weekend. Safely return to homes and stalls, winners and runner ups. You are all so beautiful.
s (in San Diego)
Z you look so relaxed. Made me want to climb back under the covers and rest for a while this morning. Except I am not retired and even though on (a stay at home) Vacaton this week…I feel busier then ever.
@Kennedys …Wonderful little tidbit to leave us with! Thank you and have a wonderful few weeks in Europe.
@JAG..Such a cute story. When I was at that intersection last week..all I got was some guy honking at a motorcyclist who pulled up beside him :) Not nearly as endearing.
@Steph…everytime I see your post, I have to pause, cause I think “hum did I post already??” LOL
Prayers for all on the East Coast that the storm quiets and passes by uneventful. Pleae be extra safe.
Gloria Jeanne
Zenny you take it easy and enjoy the races and handicapping with your pals at Lane’s End. You are getting pretty close to the “Half Way Point” I am so excited for you… take care.

ZENYATTA, YOU LOOK SO AT REST. YOU NEED ONLY TO HAVE YOUR FOAL BESIDE YOU. I WISH EVERYONE A NICE WEEKEND. PLEASE BE SAFE. LOVE TO ALL, SHERRY D. WV.
Molly
Cannot wait to see a “First Born” picture of you and your foal. Stay safe, Zenyatta. Hope Hurricane Irene does not reach Kentucky.

@Steph…in case you are confused by my last post…It’s just that my “S” in S in San Diego is Stephanie. When I first registerd…I was a little skeptical and thought, well I will just leave one message. So..a quick S was my sign in. Little did I know that I would be able to say that …nearly everyday since Nov 13, 2010..this had been one of my favorite places to go.

Zenny, how peaceful and content you look in this photo. Matt knows how to take a great picture, too, but then he has a wonderful subject.
@Kennedys in San Diego, I love this story and can picture The Queen making sure the job was done “her” way!

All 3 and up on both coasts. No baby races today. That’s OK because it will save us money for Sat. and Sun. and I can spend a little extra time on those races.

Hey, Z…enjoy that laying down thing as getting up will be harder later. I remember being pregnant and trying to get off the couch; pretty tough without help there near delivery time!
Everybody in the east…I hope for your safety with the hurricane. But if you could send some of that rain down here to south TX, we’d sure appreciate it!
Jeanie
Dear Great One,
That was a dearling story about you demanding a kiss from the night watchman! We would all line up to give you a kiss if we had the chance. You are such a beautiful girl. I hope your little one is a ringer for you and we can call him/her Mini Z!
Your humble J

Just catching up with the posts. @Brenda S, Kimberley Potter, Lisa g, signofthetimes, Kennedys in San Diego, Judy Berube, Lil from Ky, DJ and Marshall-Glad you all enjoyed the joke. Unfortunately for me, it doesn’t work that easily with a daughter. @Sherry-You continue to make solid points. The female jockeys that first started riding were somewhat of a joke, and I hope you don’t take offense at that. However, that was a long time ago and riders such as Julie Krone and the ones riding today like Chantal Sutherland are as talented as any male jock. Its just a question of being given the chance. Some horses, however, do need to be treated differently and a trainer should choose his rider accordingly. However, I certainly concur with your general sentiments. I am surprised that greater attention has not been paid to the comments you refer to. @Kennedys in San Diego–Great story about Bob and Zenyatta’s need for a kiss on the muzzle. Perhaps the Bob who posted on the last thread would like to kiss her other end. @Barbara Grimnaldi-It was wise of Jerry Hollendorfer to keep Blind Luck out of the Pacific Classic if he feels that she doesn’t like the track. Of all of the artificial surfaces out there, Del Mar is the most quirky. It is really a horse for course track. I do not believe that Zenyatta liked it, even though she won two races there. Proves how great she was. @LauraJ-Scholarly discussion on the various types of surfaces. Expplains it as well as anybody could. The big selling point is the fact that it is an all-weather type of surface. However, California does not really need these tracks for that. In my opinion, the CHRB’s action in mandating artificial tracks was a blow to California racing. Best wishes go out to our friends in the east. Here is today’s joke-southerners should especially like it.-In a small southern town there was a nativity scene that showed that great skill and talent had gone into creating it. However, the three wise men were wearing fireman’s helmets. After a visitor had observed the scene and was unable to come up with a reason or explanation for the hats, he went to a Quik Stop on the edge of town. He then asked the lady behind the counter about the helmets. She exploded into a rage, yelling at the man “You darn Yankees never do read the Bible!” When the man assured her that he did, but simply couldn’t recall anything about firemen in the Bible. The lady then jerked her Bible from behind the counter and ruffled through some pages. Finally, she jabbed her finger at a passage. Sticking the Bible in the man’s face she said “See, it says right here. The three wise men came from afar.”

Dear Queen Zenyatta & Your Royal Baby –
.
Racing this weekend is SO exciting, but that picture makes me want to give you a big hug and some cuddles. Your stall seems comfy enough for a nice nap before handicapping Two Full Days of Racing on Saturday and Sunday. You seem so tuned in, Ms. Z, I have a feeling you will be able to predict the winners with no problem!
.
Thank you, Sarah and Lane’s End, for the incredibly heartwarming pictures of late, and of course, a big round of applause for our Dean of Equine Studies, the one and only Dottie.
.
Dumplingz everywhere – have a happy weekend with lots of Horse Hugs ~~HH
Joanna
@Terry Crow…took me a bit but finally got it ‘afar’. HAHAHA!

The beautiful photograph looks like a painting. Z, you look like a beauty queen in any pose. Nice story Kennedy’s. Another of Bernardini’s son’s is running today, To Honor And Serve, Saratoga, a lower grade race as he was injured and needs a few preps to get back into top form. Also a good looker. Of course, he is on fb, details of his race on his page. I will be at Del Mar Sat & Sun, helping Trott sell last min tix to the big party on Sun. evening. Stop by and say Hi to Bonnie & I. We will be at a table by the escalator that goes up to clubhouse. If u are on the other side, just tell the guard (usually a very nice lady) at the spot where u cross the horses entrance to the track (leading out from paddock)that u want to buy a ticket for the charity event, she will let u cross. I can’t wear my Uncle Mo cap tomorrow – my hair will be ruined!!! I’ll try for a Trott tee. So if u see anyone running around in a Trott tee, blonde is Bonnie, fabulously straight, highlighted, brown hair is me. Hey, it better not be damp in Del Mar again, it will make my hair frizz. OH, it’s exhausting being beautiful!!!!!!!
So excited for Mo, wishing him and Thirsty all the best. Do love that cutie pie Shack too. Can’t we have another tie? The Factor’s return is also great news, can’t wait to see him. TC, well, who doesn’t love to watch him run. To top off all this excitement, I get to be at a party with Mike Smith & Laffitt, & Jack Van Berg! Full report on Monday. Have a great weekend everyone, and stay safe in those storms.
Vicki B.
You look gorgeous there, honey-bin!

@lalter – You can bet whoever took the gate will be gated in hell forever. Horses like “Calvin” are extra special, almost irreplaceable, and were put there for a reason. Just goes show you that in this casino economy that we live in make people do crazy things.
