Good Morning, Everyone!
Recently, I was relaxing in the paddock thinking about all of the activities planned for the future. My Team and I have been really working on some exciting plans. They are constantly monitoring my well-being…which is always their #1 goal. Additionally, my pals at Lane’s End always make sure I am in fabulous shape and taking great care of myself. Just think….I am going to be a MOM! All of this is really very exciting!
It is also that time of the year when so many people in our industry focus on the YEARLING SALES! The September Keeneland Yearling Sale is one of the largest sales in the entire industry. People from all over the world travel to Lexington for this sale with the hope of purchasing young horses who will ultimately enrich their racing programs. As you may know, this is the sale I was purchased from when I was a yearling in 2005!
David, who is a part of MY TEAM, was recently asked by THE BLOODHORSE to do some video presentations discussing criteria on how to select a yearling at a sale, the physical qualities to look for in a young horse, and then a discussion about ME! In my opinion, this is the TOO CUTE part of these presentations….the part about ME! Blush, Blush!
On their web-site, THE BLOODHORSE presented a short segment from each of these videos. I thought it would be fun to share them with you. You’ll see ME as a yearling in the sales ring, HIP #703, and many clips of ME during my racing career. The one segment at Churchill Downs was taken a few moments after I arrived at the track from the airport for the 2010 Breeders’ Cup.

Wonderful picture of Zenyatta. @Kari Bussell and Susan in TN-You might be a redneck if you’ve been married three times and still have the same in-laws or if, when you go to the dump, you come back with more stuff than you took there. @Barbara Wood-Hew Haw is a documentary for me. That’s why I am a honorary red neck, although I think I might be in the official class now. @Doreen-You are an inspiration to us all. @Judy Berube, DJ, Kim S, signofthetimes and Marshall-Thank you. Posting for people such as you make it a pleasure to do so. @JAG-Thanks for the moose link. What fun! @Kari Bussell-Are your dogs really named Bonnie and Clyde? @Karen Gogue-Your writing makes me feel as if I were there. A joke for today–A woman took her neighbor with her when she went to the police station to report that her husband was missing. “could you please describe your husband,” the officer said. “The woman replied “He’s 35 years old, 6 foot 2, weights about 190 pounds, has a very athletic build, blonde hair, blue eyes, is very soft spoken and good with the children.” The neighbor, who had been listening, said “Wait a minute. Your husband is 5 foot 4, weighs 250 pounds, is bald, has brown eyes, always speaks in a yell and is mean to your children.” “I know,” the woman said, “But who wants him back?”

Awesome Momma Z! You were a great pick as a yearling and now as a Momma! xoxo

Good morning. This is my first posting, although I’ve read every diary entry since the beginning. I live close to Arapahoe Park race track in Colorado and the racing season is over now. I have learned so much about racing through this site and thank you, Dottie, so much for all the information. Today is my birthday and what a wonderful present…videos with Zenyatta. Like everyone else who visits this site, I am anxiously waiting for the birth of Queen Z’s foal.

Good luck to David, he really knows how to “pick ’em.”

@BABY PLAYS ———————————— 08-31-11 (12:30 pm est.)

Oh Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy!!! Zenny, do you think I’m hoping for a boy? The babies are coming out to play today. Actually they will be coming out all week ending with the “Hopeful Stakes” on Get-Away Day. Today we have four little races on both coasts. Eight, skate, and donate. Today could be a turning point on where we stand at the end of the week. I am going to start keying horses in the triple instead of boxing. I hope that will be the key to a good bump. By keying a horse I get an extra horse for the same price. Only thing, the key horse has to win. If the key horse wins the other three horses can come in any position 2nd and 3rd. Get-Away day is Monday but this is the beginning of GET AWAY WEEK. Lots of people and horses are on the move. Most of the big names are on their way out of town so look for locals to have a little more success this week. Also look for the big names that are staying. The “P.G Johnson Stakes” for 2 yr old fillies headlines the card at the Spa Today. Karen and Kathy’s Dad “Philip G. Johnson” made Breeders Cup history as the first breeder, owner (along with Ed Baier), and trainer of a Breeder’s Cup race winner. To bad he didn’t ride him too, LOL. “Volponi” was PG’s big horse when he upset the 2002 four million dollar Breeder’s Cup Classic as the 43-1 longest shot on the board by 6 1/2 widening lengths, the largest margin in Classic history. “Volponi” was named for turf writer “Paul Volponi” who once gave his mythical “Volponi Award” to Johnson for winning with a horse which no one gave much of a chance. Johnson liked the name, which he said translates from Italian to “sly fox.” On the day of the 2002 BC “Volponi” was also involved in the biggest betting scandal to take place in the United States in a century. Actually P.G. and “Volponi” didn’t do anything wrong but the race was cheated by three electronic past posters from Drexel University who hacked into the system. They were caught and sent to jail. Google “Volponi”, there is a lot of ink about it. The incident changed the way internet betting worked. I believe “Volponi” is in Korea now and I worry about him because his progeny hasn’t done very much. Oh well, back to babies. At Del Mar the feature is the “Generous Portion Stakes”. Not quite a full plate but nine generous portions of 2 yr old State Bred Fillies. Saratoga baby races are race 2, 7, 8, and 11. At Del Mar they are races 1, 3, 7, and 8.
.
@Granny – In the races that I played a key triple, Grams is only betting to show on the key horse. The exacta bet she will play them both. Even Granny knows better then to bet four horses to show, LOL, She is betting 9 horses total = $18.00.
