Happy Friday Dear Friends,
It truly has been an eventful week. The 2 primary summer race meets completed their sessions…and now both Belmont Park and Fairplex open their individual meets. Good Luck to All!
Fairplex is a lovely ‘fair’ meet which runs on a ‘bullring’ race course. This means that the oval is a 5/8ths mile track. They do not have a grass course. All races are run on the main track. Belmont Park is beginning their fall meet and they will offer several major stakes and prep races for the Breeders’ Cup. When the Santa Anita Autumn Meet begins on September 30th…they will have the same quality for their stakes program. The fall racing action is really heating up!
Also, on Sunday, the KEENELAND SEPTEMBER YEARLING SALE begins. The sale will open with 2 evening sessions…which begin at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. These 2 sessions are offering some very fashionably bred yearlings. They are listed in BOOK ONE of the sales catalogs.
When a sale is going to take place, the sales company, Keeneland in this case, prepares a ‘SALES CATALOG’. The catalog provides you with all of the pertinent information relating to the sale and the conditions for the sale. It then lists the horses by HIP NUMBER starting with Hip #1. This way when you are reviewing the catalog, you use this number to find all of the information on a particular horse, the date it is being offered during the sale, and all of it’s detailed pedigree information.
HIP # 147 is of special interest to ME! The colt is a very close relative of mine. He is by STREET CRY (IRE)…my sire…and out of BALANCE. She is my 1/2 sister by Thunder Gulch. What makes us 1/2 sisters is that we have the same MOTHER…VERTIGINEUX.
This colt sells on Monday evening. The bidding on him will be very exciting to watch. You may also follow the activities on your computer. Go to KEENELAND.COM, then click on SALE…and select LIVE for the actual viewing of all of the action as it is taking place. This sale lasts for approximately two weeks. All sessions after the first two start in the morning at about 10 Eastern Time.
The catalogs and pedigree pages are on the web-site for you to review as well. It is really quite fascinating to see this side of our industry.
By the way, BLUSH–BLUSH, my photo is on the cover of BOOK ONE. My pal, ZAZU, has her photo on the cover of BOOK TWO. We are both ‘graduates’ of the September Keeneland Yearling Sales.
MY TEAM is coming to Kentucky for the sale…and most importantly they told ME…to SPEND TIME AND VISIT WITH ME! I can’t wait!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

@Michelle – you’re welcome. Thank you for your dad’s service.
@judy berube, Barbara Wood, and Kari Bussell – you’re welcome.
@Signofthetimes – I’m looking forward to watching the both of them.
@Trina Nagele – thank you for your kind words.
Hip #43 is gorgeous, just like his sire. I didn’t write the hip # down, but I believe it was #31 (it’s a Dynaformer colt), he’s a monster (very tall and very long)– he should do well at the classic distance, but his pedigree bleeds turf.

Yeah Zenny
Your dad hit the top. A gorgeous volt with a Street
Cry head. 1.2 million. I bet the Shiek is proud.
Signofthetimes
Colt not Volt sorry
Kendra
@Signofthetimes – Can’t wait to hear more about Street Cry and Vertigineux.
Delrene
Answer to Abigail – YES!
God Bless America and all the good that it stands for. Zenny your site helps me cope with the worry I carry for my son who is in Afghanistan for the 2nd time now in his career with the Air Force. Knowing others via your site who have weathered far worse storms in their life helps me keep focused on the positive. Stay safe and wonder if your baby gives you any “kicks” as yet?

@Kendra
Wow what a great trip you had!!! How long were
You gone? Thanks for sharing.

Good morning, Z.
@Linda in NJ—How horrible for you to be such a close-up eye witness to the tragic events of 9/11 and very nearly a fatality yourself. In the aftermath, what a touching symbol of endurance and continuing life was your little plant, a survivor of disaster.
@Delrene—Hugs for you and prayers for your son in Afghanistan that he stay safe and be back home soon.

Long live our Dancing Queen Zenyatta.

You have such nice family. They never fail to visit you whenever they’re in town. Have a nice day Zen.

Zenyatta, I’ll bet you’re really happy that a relative of yours is going to be bought at the Keeneland sale if she hasn’t been bought already. If I get a chance, I will watch part of that yearling sale online. It should be exciting.
MM
Z you are definitely losing your waist. You look great though. Have a great weekend.

Zen, that’s great you get to see your owners. I’m going to their lecture tonight at my university, the University of Kentucky. That is so nice of them to come and talk to us. We all have our stories about you if we were lucky enough to see you run but of course they will have some of the best stories so I’m quite interested to hear those.

I see that Hip #147 sold for $750,000 to John McCormack Bloodstock. Can you give us any information on this buyer? I discovered that they are based in Ireland and am wondering if this horse will race there or here in the US. I know you may not have the answers to this, Queen Z, but I know how curious you were about this particular sale at Keeneland, so if you could check with Dottie and let us know more about this one, I would appreciate it. Your curiosity got me going and now I’m just wondering what will happen to Hip #147 myself. Thanks and love you girl!
