Good Morning,
I’m hearing from MY TEAM that ‘working the sale’ requires a great deal of effort, hard work, concentration, and energy! They get up very early each morning and leave for the sales grounds. By that time, David and his crew have already gone over ALL of the horses to be offered that day and come up with the ‘short list’ which Dottie, John and The Moss’ review. All aspects of the individuals are evaluated: conformation, size, pedigree, walk, and other physical qualities! Monitoring the horse’s overall temperament is also a part of this process.
Each horse on this list is inspected. If they make this ‘cut’, the veterinarian then examines the horse and his / her xrays in the repository. The VET also scopes the horse’s throat to be sure “all parts are working well’ for good breathing to take place. A good throat is essential for a race horse!
Once a horse passes all of these steps, the decision is made as to the fair market value of the horse. As many of you may know, at an auction people can get caught up in the bidding. MY TEAM tries to be very careful not to do this. They thoroughly appraise each horse before the bidding begins and really try to stay within those limits while bidding.
If all goes well and the hammer falls while a particular HIP they are bidding on is in the ring, they sign the ticket and he or she is now a part of the racing stable!
Attending a sale as this one, is really a fun process…but truthfully a great deal of hard work. Every moment of every day while there is totally consumed with the SALE. It is all about planning for the future and getting the RIGHT HORSE for the program!
As you can see, BABY REAGAN is resting up for all of the company and activity this week. I think she wants to stay up a bit late on Monday night to see my relative, HIP # 147 sell! I do too!
By the way, HRTV is carrying the first few sessions live on their programming schedule. Otherwise, the internet is the best way to follow the events.
HMMM! This baby thing is rather interesting to ME! Reagan was born on March 7th, 2011. That is about the time MY BABY is due in 2012! I just didn’t realize human babies are so small! They told ME my baby will weigh about 125 pounds or so when he/she is born.) This becoming a MOM is really a fascinating process! I’m learning!
Enjoy the week, the racing, and the sales! Dottie is attending them this week and also spending time visiting with ME! When she returns home, we will update you on all of the action. She also promises that MY JOHN will take some terrific photos of ME to share with all of you!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(To my dear fan who made the Z BLANKET as a thank you….THANK YOU! It is absolutely priceless!)

Hi Zenny: I hope all is well with you. Maybe you can give us a quick hint on some of the horses your CA family has purchased. Zenny, when you have a chance, maybe you can ask your John to give us an update on Ebby.
Take care Z. We love you!

I am just curious. Do the pensioned stallions get gelded ever? I mean, if they are a little intractable, do they end up fixed when they are pensioned? It is a question I have had for awhile, maybe it has been asked and answered before. There is so much knowledge on this site, someone here must know. While we wait for pix and vids of our Goddess!!!

Dear Dottie,
So glad you have had time to work with everyone
At the sale. I definately appreciate all you do for us
And this website. Sweet Dreams Zenny!!!!!

@Andrea
I have not heard of pensioned stallions being
Gelded, if they are older and sperm count and
Fertility are issues; testosterone should be low
Therefore decreases stallion behavior.
I imagine Cigar would be an exception as he was retired
Very young, but was not gelded.
Any other thoughts info on this interesting subject????

I will do want I can. Bless you for all your loving care for these wonderful creatures — they are truly our angels.

Queen Z, hi again! Sure hope you are resting/grazing/eating/talking with your gal pals and all that other horsey stuff. Perhaps even some racing dreams, (which you can share with Susan in TN) but don’t exert yourself TOO much. Kinda sounds like what I’ve been doing lately, LOL, esp. the eating and grazing and definitely not exerting myself. YOU, my Queen, have an excuse!
@Judy Berube: ha ha LOL with that Tom D. video, yaka hicka wha?? (And yes, I do think he has lost some of his voice lately.)
@LauraJ: good thing Arrr (?) won that race! :) @you both, there was a video on there of Frank Mirahmandi (sp? too tired to check it out now) calling a race at Turf Paradise in several different voices. Clever. Homage to Luke K.
@Diana S: nice to “hear” your voice again. What a hoof raising idea for a Dumpling tag for Dottie!
@Terry Crow, keep the jokes coming. Just can’t comment on each one! And to follow-up (and perhaps close the book on) re our comments of several diaries ago, no, J.S. and I were/are not friends. Only “conversation” we ever had was in Clocker’s Corner ladies room very early once…we mumbled “g’ morning” to each other, while washing hands. I actually said it first, she sort of responded. Well, it WAS quite early.
@All in area: first Santa Anita “packet” arrived today! Hoof ray! Of upcoming events for the “Autumn Meet.”
Marshall (girl's name)
Sorry, make that “I will do what I can.” Forgot to proofread! Sweet dreams to all!

THANK YOU, DUMPLINGS for responding to our call for help regarding the starving mare. We have found out that she is a he—a gelding—and we were able to get a wonderful rescue group there to look into the situation for us—BlueBonnet Horse Rescue. It is working with the sheriff’s office there and asks that we hold off on any more calls or emails for another day or so. Equi-Army-NDO notified as many horse lovers as it could and the response was just so wonderful. As of this moment, about 12:49am EDT, we have learned that the farmer was out in his field all day long with his tractor picking up all the debris and that fresh hay and water has been put out for the horses. Tomorrow is another day, and maybe we’ll get more details, particularly about the infected leg on the horse we’ve been working for. Until then, I want to again thank you for your graciousness, your generosity and your encouragement…JUDY B, BARBARA W, TRUDY N, DORIS MCC (all four always there to encourage and support, with love), SUSAN in TN (I think about you every day and hope time will heal your pain), ROSEMARY MCCAULEY (you went out of your way to call TX from CA—I am so grateful to you), DARLENE RUTLEDGE, KIMBERLY POTTER, MARILU V, INGRID ARNONE, KENDRA, KIM S, JOAN P (for terrific action), SYBIL MILLER (for truly meritorious service), CATHERINE WHEELER (we thank heaven for you every day), MARY JOHNSON (one of the wisest and pro-active women for horses I know), DELRENE, MARSHALL—all of you…we thank you with all our hearts. We will be thanking BlueBonnet at the conclusion of this situation with a monetary gift, and if you’d like to join us in that, I’ll post the address and person to send it to. We just have to say thank you to that terrific group of volunteers—and we will.
BARB WOOD and SIGNOFTHETIMES: I just left a message on Shackleford’s FB page addressing Mr Romans and stating that Shack needs shorter races so why keep entering him in longer ones…I’m worried about that horse…he’s run too hard too often this year…I know many will not agree with me, but I read so many comments about him all over FB that say the same thing—for heaven’s sake, put him in shorter races and give him a chance to be a winner more often.
It’s been a tough few days, but tonight I laughed out loud when I chanced upon the ARRR video from LauraJ. There is really a horse named ARRR? The announcer was laughing so hard at the end he had to compose himself. Thanks for the laughs—I will go back to that one again.
THANK YOU PRECIOUS ZENNY AND DEAR DOTTIE for bringing us all together.

Dear Barbara (Skip) Grimaldi:

@Terry Crow–Good ones!
@LouAnn Cingel–Prayers for you in your recovery.
@Peggy (N)–It’s past midnight now, so I’ll be praying for you to get good news at the doctor’s office today.
@Susan–Love that truck carrying Tiny’s message to you!
@Shari Voltz–Peppermint Pals is great! Thanks for linking! I love the way Madame Mistletoe talks to the kids about learning and “doing your homework” and not giving up and training paying off and being happy when a friend does well and all those things! Her philosophy is like Z’s, don’t you think? Truly delightful and charming, and just the kind of messages we all need to hear.
