Good Morning All!
I’M BACK! This sale ‘stuff’ is rather complicated and kept Dottie quite busy…so we were not able to get together and write during that time. I hope you are all well, had a wonderful week, and are enjoying the changing weather patterns. It is the beginning of Fall!
During the Yearling Sale, so many of my dear pals came to Lexington…so I had a great deal of company. This day, I shared a wonderful visit with my very special friends from Florida. As you may remember, Ocala is where I began my very first lessons after I was purchased from the sale. Sharing this photo with ME is Jeanne Mayberry (it is her training center where I spent the first several months of my breaking and training process), her 2 daughters, Summer and April, and their cousin, Jackie.
It was great fun to see all of them again. They thought I looked quite well…and enjoyed patting ‘my baby bump’. (Blush, Blush!)
I must say I enjoyed all of my time with these wonderful people in Ocala as a ‘youngster’. Jeanne is the one who told David that she hoped the Moss’ would give ‘this filly’ a terrific name as she looks to be very talented. Then in early December, David was in Ocala to see the ‘babies’ …often yearlings and 2 year olds are referenced by this term. He called Dottie and told her that they thought I could be VERY SPECIAL. To quote David, “this filly is going around the track in ‘gallop mode’ and just cruising by all of the other horses…and they look to be very talented prospects.” So, needless to say, I have a very soft spot in my heart for all of these loving people. I treasure the lessons I learned from them, the great times I shared with them, and all of the extraordinary memories we hold so dear of the last six years!
It is that time of year again when ‘the babies’ will venture to Ocala and begin their lessons…just like I did. The Mayberry Family is returning home now as the vans will be arriving carrying their new group of ‘students’ . Each one of these yearlings will walk off the van with a presence of his/her own and carrying the hope to become the best he or she can be!
I know I did!
Our sport is all about having a DREAM! It is about HOPE! It is about planning for the FUTURE. That is why everything we do each day is SO VERY SPECIAL!
Great to be back visiting with all of you again.
Have a wonderful day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Hi Zenny, I just love you, have DVD of all your races, Your picture with Mike Smith, fantastic. I have followed horse racing since 1965. I watched Secretariat win the triple crown and was a great fan of his, just the last word in horse perfection, and then you came along and WOW, it happened again splendor and perfection. I just watched your races on my DVD and you are perfection personified. I can hardly wait to see your baby, it is all to incredible a fairy tale doesn’t get better than you.
I saw a picture of you in “Departure Magazine” Depicting all 11 points of perfection of the race horse and there you were the perfection of what are the absolute most desirable points of the perfect race horse. Well darling I love and admire you so much, take care, I’m sure Dottie is making sure of your welfare. I tried to see you last spring when I was in Virginia, I was going to fly to see you, when I called they were not receiving any visitors, I’ll try again when you baby comes.
All My Love Emily

@DJ-Grandma flopped at the end. Glad you enjoyed the Pampers joke.Hoping Shawnee is better after today. Keep us posted. @Shannon from Cool-Those WERE the days. @signofthetimes-Your usual good posts. Sorry to hear about the 2-year-olds. Wioth so many horses to supposedly look after, TP does have his problems. @Katie Clawson, future jockey-Always good to see you posting. @Kari Bussell and Susan in TN-you might be a redneck if you use a toilet brush as a back scratcher. You might be a redneck if you run from the cops on a John Deere tractor. You might be a redneck if dinner has tire tracks on it. Today’s joke–Little Johnny attended a horse auction with his father. He watched his dad move from horse to horse, running his hands up and down the horses’ legs, rump and chest. After a few minutes, little Johnny asked his dad “Why are you doing that?” His father replied “Because when I’m buying horses I have to make sure that they are healthy and in good shape before I buy.” Little Johnny, looking worried, said “Dad, I think the UPS guy wants to buy mom.”

@Tony and Sue – Welcome back!
@Kimberly Potter and Ingrid – Happy Belated Birthday!!
@Abigail in Montreal – Hello my friend. The story about Molly was inspirational and heartwarming. Thank you!
@Brenda – Absolutely loved the story of Ann Moss taking you into the winner’s circle. What an amazing experience!!!!
@Kathy Kimber – I visit the Facebook site for Noor several times. The memorial was wonderful. Seeing and hearing from Charlotte was amazing. I wish I could have been there to give her a huge hug when she was wiping away her tears, although I know my own would have been falling.
@Terry Crow – I have been enjoying the info about the Civil War. I am a real history buff myself and visit many historical sites on my driving trips across country. Last year, I read the book “The Confederate Widow” and visited the plantation house in Franklin, TN along with some of the other battle sites there. Then recently I visited Gettysburg and Appomattox, as well as Lincoln’s Presidential Library in Springfield. That was fantastic. I bought a DVD in Gettysburg called, “The Horses of Gettysburg”, but have not watched it yet. As always, enjoy the laughs your jokes provide.
@Shari – Thank you again for being such a wonderful friend!!!!! Your description of the kids and the impact Mistletoe is having on their lives is remarkable. She is such a beautiful filly and Tim and Jennifer Ice are such caring individuals with their Peppermint Pals site. Truly amazing!!!! They represent some of the great people that can be found in racing.
@Trina M Nagle – Thank you so much for the link to Mr. Brooke’s artwork and everything else wonderful you do for all of us!
@Mr. Brooke – What you have done to make your prints of our beautiful Zenyatta available to us is greatly appreciated!
@Ann Maree – Thanks for the memories.
@DJ – Your daily prayers bring me peace and joy. May you’re little Shawnee be blessed and held in God’s healing hands.
Vicki B.
I’m not great at remembering jokes, but saw today, above a license plate, “Save the Manatees”, and below the plate, “And the Womanatees, too!”
@Terry Crow – Like the back-scratcher joke (another “I’ve thought of that…” moment), and the bad UPS guy. Thanks.
Dawn Conrad
@JAG, Signofthetimes, and Judy B – Your posts and links are so wonderful, I appreciate you all very, very much. Thank you!!

@dunie, well said!

@signofthetimes-Glad you are enjoying the jokes. Its the least I can do for so many of your entertaining posts. @Dawn Conrad-Good to correspond with a fellow buff. The battlefield at Franklin in one I have not visited. A lot of confederate generals died in that battle under the worst confederate commander, John Bell Hood. Actually, it is a toss-up between Hood and Braxton Bragg. There is a fort out here in California named for Bragg. Hood was a good divisional commander but as the head general he lacked a lot. Lost his leg at Gettysburg. When I asked a soldier who the fort was named for and he said Braxron Bragg, I just laughed. Fort Bragg is near Seabiscuit’s old home. Would love to sit down and talk with you for awhile. Here are two things you will NEVER hear a redneck say: She’s too young to be wearing a bikini; Those shorts ought to be a little longer.
Rosemary McCauley
@Terry Crow – Great jokes. You always make me laugh.
Dawn Conrad
@Terry Crow – I would love a sit down also. I realized I was wrong on the name of the book. I was getting it mixed up with the “Oldest Confederate Widow”. The one about the Battle of Franklin is “The Widow of the South”, by Robert Hicks about Carrie McGavock and Carnton Plantation, which was used as a field hospital. When you visit, they tell about the four generals who died there and were laid out on the porch of the house. The battle is believed to be the bloodest five hours of the Civil War, with over 9,500 soldiers killed, wounded or missing. The McGavock’s designated two acres adjacent to their own family cemetery for nearly 1,500 of the soldiers who died. Today, it is the largest privately owned military cemetery in the nation.
