Good Morning,
My JOHN got a chance to download some of his photos last night…so I wanted to share a few of them with you. It has been so exciting seeing everyone. As usual, we always have a great time together.
Here I am whispering ‘sweet thoughts’ into My John’s ear. At this moment, I really gave a great deal of thought to playing the ‘hat game’ with him as well. It was rather windy at this particular time…so I decided to just ‘kiss’ him on the cheek. I have done this so many times in the past. It brought back so many special memories to ME and I know to him!
What a wonderful day we all shared!
This weekend seems to be packed with a great deal of stakes action at several different racing venues. I am particularly interested in the KENT which is on the turf at Delaware Park and the Pennsylvania Derby on the main track at Parx. Both races are for 3 year olds going 1 1/8. It is great to see how horses continue to develop and mature at this stage. I am especially interested in the Parx race as Bernie sired one of the main contenders, TO HONOR AND SERVE.
I must say, I do keep track of ‘his’ horses and how they are performing at the race track. His babies sold very well in the various yearling sales to date and his horses are running very competitively all over the world! This is such GREAT NEWS!
I’m proud of you, BERNIE!
On the West Coast, Fairplex is concluding their meet…and then back to Santa Anita for their Autumn Meet of Racing. Opening day is September 30th. This marks the beginning of a great time of racing on the West Coast as one terrific race meet follows another from this point forward for the next 11 plus months.
I hope you enjoy all of the FUN! Good Luck to all of the horses competing this weekend!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

Dear Jeanie:
I’m afraid I did use my credit card yesterday to make a donation. Have you checked out our equip-army-ndo site. We are a new group and we try to help horses like these as soon as we hear about them. I’m afraid I’ve made as many donations this month as I can. I hope you have some success getting the press to pick this up and maybe getting an extension of time. It will have so much more exposure. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Signofthetimes:
Wouln’t it be something if we get to see Frankel at BC. (Well, on TV). That story about Lure is too cute. Don’t you just love all the different personalities. There so human-like sometimes. Hugs, J.B.

@Judy B
Oh yes Frankel in CA, funny his trainer said he would not like Churchill so maybe that is why they are not bringing him here this year. Is the turf track nice at Santa Anita?? Oh maybe you and Russ can come to CA in 2012. The different personalities are so very special, last night there was an HRTV diary on It’s Tricky and she was not tricky at all on the camera, a good girl; jockey was asked if they have ever parted ways and he said lets not talk about it, She loves her 22 year old pony, retired TB race horse, he is her “boyfriend”;I think his name is Short.

Zenyatta and Bernie are kind of like Lucy and Desi. Both talented but one is a super star.

Dear Signofthetimes:
Love the info about It’s Tricky. She’s a Sweetheart. Unfortunately, Russ turns 85 in October. He’s blind and getting more frail all the time. I’m not sure I will be able to leave him to come to BC next year. We’ll see. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Jeanie:
I know Marlene uses her own funds to save them. We have more than one person in our equi-army-ndo group that do the same thing. These are real special people. Hugs, J.B.

Hey Zenny,
Don’t forget Arthur’s Tale, in the Pa, Derby. He is one of Bernie’s sons too.
You look so healthy and happy. Have a great weekend!

@ALL—If you missed them earlier, you can see clips of the interviews of Jerry and Ann Moss and John Sherriffs at the University of Kentucky’s Equine Initiative Distinguished Lecture Series at http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/. You have to scroll through the little pictures below the large NEWS picture. More of the interview with the Mosses is detailed an article in the online edition of The Horse, and the following poem refers to details of the interview reported there. I’ll repost the link to that article below.
A Poem on the Occasion of the Mosses’ Visit to Kentucky September 2011
Dear Z, we’re all so lucky
That there in Kentucky
You’ve just had a visit from Ann,
Your first—
And forever your foremost— fan.
Her heart with love for you
Is always ready to burst,
(We all know that’s true),
And in an interview
At the U of Kentucky
She revealed about you
A new thing or two.
.
By her we’ve just been told
That even before you
To her and her hubby were sold,
You were so sweetly bold
As to lay your head on her shoulder.
To Ann ’twas a dear pleasure,
And that simple gesture
Then and there told her
That you were a treasure
Far more precious than gold.
Now Ann does contend
That at Lane’s End
You’ve elected the pasture to mow.
Well, dear Z, that sweet bluegrass
Is truly first-class—
Just right for our famous lass.
It’ll help your little one grow,
And soon you’ll have that baby in tow!
For you we used to cheer
“Go, Zenny, go!”
Well, it’s a new year,
And maybe from Ann you now hear
“Mow, Zenny, mow!”
With that in mind
While we await more news from your Dot,
We hope you’ll find
A particularly luscious spot
And eat the whole lot.

Dear Trina N.
Thanks for sharing the sweet poem. Hugs, J.B.

I think the pictures in today’s post are among my favorites. I do love TT looking wistfully over at all the fun.
My favorite horse book is still Black Beauty. It was the one that started me on my love of horses many years ago. It taught me that the horse’s fate(and very life) is truly in the hands of the owner, for good or bad.
@Trina–you are the 8th wonder of the world! I’m beginning to think you dream in poetry! Hugs.
@Judy B–so sorry about Russ. I knew he had health problems but did know know about his blindness. I can see why your leaving would be difficult.

In Europe they go to great lengths to re-introduce wild horses. In the USA they are plentiful and it seems the authorities go to great lengths to destroy what they have! http://www.horsetalk.co.nz/news/2011/09/171.shtml

@Judy B, IIRC, I’d bet that the issue with the feedlot is that the truck is on a regular schedule. (I assume this feedlot is not just horses.) BTW, has anyone posted this on Zenny’s FB page? If not, I’ll do it in a few minutes.

@Terri Zeitz, Terlingua was a fine racemare to be sure. However, she was not Secretariat’s best daughter on the track. That would be Lady’s Secret. One could argue that she was not only Secretariat’s best daughter but his best offspring period. She was a little gray horse who raced from 1984-1986. Always a good racer, she got better as she got older. In 1986, she won the Eclipse Award as Champion Older Female and was also voted Horse of the Year. She was inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame in 1992. Unfortunately she was not a success as a broodmare.

@Dawn Conrad, I think May-May would make a great movie heroine.

OMGosh these pictures are just great and well worth waiting for. Thank you for posting them Dottie/Zenny. She looks spectacular and Tasty looks happy too. The pictures are very sweet and it is clear she still knows and loves her family. @Trina Naegle thank you for posting the list of horses.

JAG- I WAS SICKENED BY THE FAILURE OF PENN NATIONAL TO PROMPTLY PUT THE FILLY OUT OF HER MISERY. IF THEY WILL NOT MANDATE A VETS PRESENCE, THEN SOMEONE ELSE SHOULD BE DESIGNATED TO ADMINISTER THE DOSE. NO BEING SHOULD HAVE TO SUFFER IN THAT CONDITION.

TERRI ZEITZ- I THINK YOUR Z-FESTIVAL IS A WONDERFUL IDEA. WE COULD ALL CONTRIBUTE TO ITS SUCCESS. HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE A GO

Hi beautiful Zenny. I love the pictures of you and your family. You can see the love you all have for one another. They are so proud of you. Rightly so. You make everyone smile. You have that God given gift. Your coat is beautiful. It looks so shiny and healthy. Sometimes pregnancy does that. Well, thank you for the gorgeous photos and please stay happy and well. So many people adore you!!! Lots of Big Hugs and Kisses, Alene :-)

KAREN GOGUE- ARE YOU ALRIGHT? HAVEN’T SEEN YOUR POSTS LATELY. HOPE YOU ARE DOING WONDERFULLY AND JUST BUSY.
