Happy Monday, Everyone!
It was such a wonderful weekend of racing…plus I had so many fabulous times visiting with MY TEAM during the sales…that I thought it would be best to catch up on my rest!
I know there are some very exciting things happening in the next few weeks…and I really want to be perfectly rested so I can enjoy all of them.
MY JOHN loves this particular photo as he said I used to sleep like this with my head in this position all of the time when I was with him at BARN 55. I have to adjust my ‘tummy’ a bit at this time…as I am now literally ‘sleeping for 2’.
He also loved seeing how TASTY and I share such an endearing relationship. He commented to Dottie last night that the ‘kindness’ of our relationship shows even in this picture.
Tasty really is so sweet. She is always close by…and she literally watches over ME while I sleep. I am so fortunate. A dear friend, like she is to ME…and I am to her…is something to be truly treasured.
On another note, I also want to give a HIGH HOOF to Bernie and the performance of To Honor and Serve this weekend. This colt that he sired won the Pennsylvania Derby in great style…and established a new record while doing so in this victory. Congratulations to all who are involved with this wonderful colt.
Our sport….it is truly very special!
Enjoy your day!
With love,
Hugs to All~

TT is standing guard over the Queen. Everyone loves her, human and equine both.

What a sweet picture, this is the way that my mare likes to sleep in, and she always had her friends watching her back as she dozed in the sun. Way to go To Honor and Serve!!
Mary Margaret
Sweet dreams to you Zenyatta and Tasty. Wish I could sit in the grass and watch you sleep and keep the flies off both of you.
connie richey

Love that John comments on your napping and recognizes how you still do the same things as in Barn 55.

Zenyatta,
What a adorable picture of you and TT. It’s nice to have friends that watch and take care of you. You both look good. Stay healthy and happy Big PG Mama……
Barbara Wood
Dearest Z–what a darling picture of you and TT. I love that you watch over each other. As I understand it, the best sleep a horse can get is when his/her herd is standing watch. I believe I can see the bump! Please get enough sleep for 2. we love you so.
Mary
It is so sweet to the friendship that you and Tasty have….two sweet mares looking out for each other. That is what friends do…they have your back. Glad you had fun seeing your friends and we love them sharing the photos they took of you, them, and Tasty with us. Hugs to you Z…
Ingrid Arnone

Very sweet! I just dusted off all of your photos and posters that are up in my barn. You still have the best walls where you show off to my horses.

You need your rest, Mommatta Zenyatta….those little ones tire you out. How good to see you have a good friend. We all need all the friends we can get!

It is good to see you and Tasty getting along so well. I got home from Denver last night and along the route in Nevada saw some wild horses. A few were laying down resting while others stood “guard”, quite something to see! I went to Denver (from Sacramento, California) to the natinal dog show for my breed, Vizslas. I took my young female, Brook, who won her class at nationals. On Friday she won her class again at a regional specialty show and went on to be awarded “Winners Bitch” for a 5 point major! She was judged to be the best non-champion female at the show, quite an honor with dogs from all over the country in competition. For luck I took a small photo of you, Z, as I think you are the best female athlete of all animals! I wanted little Brook to make me proud and try to get inspiration from you! She did both. We are both glad to be home and one of the first things I did when the car was unpacked was check on recent posts. I left during the week Dottie took “off” so was eager for news. Take care of yourself and your baby!

Hi Zenny, it seems funny to see you sleeping in the grass and you do need your rest. Your owners Ann and Jerry had a great article on recounting your Accomplishments in your racing days until now. This was in the bloodhorse. I was so glad to be able to read what they had to say about you and as usual it was all loving things about their Zenyatta. They are both emensely proud of you and have a great amount of love for you. You are so special Zenny and I love you very much also. Have a restfull day and enjoy your time with Tasty.

What lovely pictures of YOU and Tasty T, you are such good friends. What a huge pasture you girls have, lots and lots of that great blue grass to munch and take a nap on, it’s so good of Tasty T to stand guard when you are having a power nap. Do you do the same for her? Both of you need to be extra careful of that tummy when you lie down so that the little ones remain comfy as well as Mommy. Glad to see that both of you are wearing your fascinators to keep those pesky flies away.
Congratulations to Bernie’s son, a win and a new record, what a boy. Inglorious did not run well at Woodbine in the Selene Stakes finishing third. Smart Sting ran very well for trainer Roger Attfield and won handily.
Kim Noble
So glad you have someone to watch over you and Baby Bump!

Dear Zenyatta. How peaceful and content you look catching some Zssssss. :) :) What special memories John must be experiencing all over again as he and Team Z spend quality time with their wonderful girl. As you say, Zenny, good friends are a blessing in many, many ways. I count myself so fortunate to have not only my close friends and family here at home, but my fantastic Z friends all across the U.S. as well. The support system I have found on your diary site is remarkable in the kindness and generosity shown one to another, heart to heart. My fellow Dumplings are divine and of course the friendship we feel for our AMAZING Dottie is particularly sweet. Thank you again my dearest Zenyatta, for continuing to bring so much to my life! I too am excited over all of the great races which are coming up. It is hard to believe that the Breeder’s Cup is just around the corner. Where has the time gone? You keep getting your beauty rest for 2 and enjoying your bond with TT. You know you have my love, forever. Sweet dreams. Hugs and kisses. XXXOOO
Bookmark: A book I thought was really beautiful about the remarkable bond that we can build with the animals we love is “Chosen by a Horse” by Susan Richards. The horse Susan Richards chose for rescue wouldn’t be corralled into her waiting trailer. But Lay Me Down, a former racehorse with a foal close on her heels, walked right up that ramp and into Susan’s life. Weak from malnutrition, Lay Me Down had endured a rough road, but somehow her heart was still open and generous. Susan Richards thought she was rescuing a starved, abused and abandoned mare . . . turns out Lay Me Down was rescuing Susan. She taught this woman how to embrace the joys of life despite the dangers of living. It is a story for anyone who has ever loved fiercely and lost, thought that pain had damaged them beyond fixing or wondered if facing death also means facing life. This book will bring you to tears, but leave you grateful. “Chosen by a Horse”, how a broken horse fixed a broken heart.

Good to see you resting up and what a beautiful friend you have in Tasty! True, good friends are so hard to come by, you’re a very lucky lady Z!!
Molly
Zenyatta, looks like you are staying nice and comfortable throughout your pregnancy. Do you ever get to play in the fields with other broodmares or are you limited to Tasty? Howbeit she looks to be a great friend. Take care.
LouAnn Cingel of Union, Missouri
Such a peaceful and wonderful pic of you resting Zenyatta. So happy to hear that you are doing so well and that you have a super special close friend in Tasty. It is absolutely wonderful that you and her are so close and that you both look out for each other. You take care my dear special one, I am so blessed to be able to keep connected through this diary with you-Dottie does such an exceptional job and we would all be at a loss without all her dedication and hard work-there is absolutely no one like her, she is one of a kind.
Love you lots Zenyatta and you take good care of yourself sweetie.
My Love & Blessings with hugs always!

@ Mary – Tasty T was foaled in 2006 so she is younger than Zenny

@My thoughts and prayers to all of the horses and their connections who are struggling right now with health issues. I certainly pray that the circumstances at Penn National are quickly corrected and that standards are incorporated wherever needed so that such a horrible incident never occurs again.
@Terri Zeitz – Just wanted to let you know that I am an AVP/Branch Manager in Colorado for a large national bank. I do not work for Three Chimney’s, although it would certainly be a beautiful place to be associated with. I am a member of Club Three Chimneys. This is a service started by the farm (Winstar also has a similar program) to promote a connection between the farm, the horses and the fans. I think these groups are great and it is wonderful that the farms are recognizing the importance of the fan. As a member, I receive certain perks, including informational e-mails and photos sent directly to me. Big Brown is still a site to see in his retirement. The last time I visited, we walked down to his paddock and spent some time taking pictures and enjoying him. He looked wonderful and he was having a great time running around. His hats are a very popular item at the farm’s stallion office. Unfortunately, I never got to see Seattle Slew in person.
@Laura J – I agree about May – May! Have anyone in mind to play the part?
@DJ – Hope Shawnee is still healing well. I have had Chihuahuas my entire life, one was a purebred and the other two were mixes, all rescues. Sandy was my first love and then my wonderful Gidget; both have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Now there is my best friend Bindi. I don’t want to leave out my sweet Sassy kitty also. I do not know what I would have done without them in my life.
@Brenda S – I love how Vic is so involved in life, from riding to drama, good on her! I am sure you have been a remarkable influence. I had to laugh when I read your story of being surrounded by horses. When I went to River’s Edge I had a similar experience. I was trying to share carrots as fast as I could. You just want to give them all the love you can.
@Terry Crow – Hi, Terry. Hope you had a wonderful weekend with your daughter and that she enjoyed a very happy birthday. When I travel I try to purchase a book from each of the places I visit. My world expands not only from what I see, but from what I read and I carry a bit of each experience home with me. You are right; these are the ways we learn. I failed to complete my thoughts by saying the time we devote to each subject influences the degree of expertise. I have not devoted a great deal of time to the CiviI War, but I do keep learning. I look for history wherever I go and enjoy seeing it come alive before me. It sounds like you enjoy doing much the same.
@Deborah Richman and Linda E – The Snowman story is fantastic. It took place over 50 years ago, but it is just as pertinent today in showing that horses rescued from slaughter can give back so much to those who save them. The gift is mutual. Also, Deborah, I hope your tabby is feeling better. And Linda, I agree our Dottie is amazing.
@Especially Horses – I was lucky enough to get some one on one time with Serena’s Song on my last trip to Kentucky. She is truly remarkable.
@Suzanne Pashayan – I enjoyed your post very much. Welcome to Zenyatta’s site. You must have had such a remarkable experience with your wonderful Brown Bess and can relate a great deal with Team Z. I am sorry for your loss. I hope it is not too much to ask if you could continue to periodically share some of your experience and expertise with us. You must have so many great stories and wonderful incite about thoroughbreds, the business of horses and racing. I know I would love to hear more.
@Abigail from Montreal – Loved the video of Genuine Risk and her foal. At the same You Tube site, there was a video of our favorite Terlingua. I contacted Overbrook Farm during the weekend, to see about visiting her grave and perhaps getting a chance to see Storm Cat also. They were very gracious in answering my request quickly; however, they stated that since the farm is no longer a working breeding facility and has been restructured, they do not have the staff available for a visitor or tour. You never know when circumstances may change, however, so I will keep in touch with them periodically going forward. Probably my favorite equine books at least from my youth would still have to be My Friend Flicka, Thunderhead and the Green Grass of Wyoming. I actually have first additions of two of them, 1941 and 1943. I am looking for Green Grass of Wyoming. Of course I love the movies they made of them and the TV series. Who wouldn’t want a place like the Goose Bar Ranch, horse heaven! I also liked the movie Smoky, with Fess Parker, from a book by Will James. The horse in it is beautiful.
@Kari B.,DJ, Sharon in Seattle, Lou Ann Cingel, Kimberly Potter, Amanda G, Marty R. and any other who may need a prayer and hug. I am sending both. May this week bring you hope and joy!!! You are in my thoughts and heart as always!
@Peggy (N) – Hello, sis. Sounds like things are coming together for your visit in Kentucky. Glad you received information to lift your spirits and help you with positive options. Z friends are the best at sharing. Have fun planning your trip. As you know, I always love doing that part.
@ Johanna from TX, Judy Berube, Signofthetimes, Anne from Paramount, CA and Marshall – Glad you saw the Rahy tribute. I thought it was beautiful.
@Brooke – Always wonderful to hear about you and your wonderful Dusty. Hope you are having fun during this school year and doing well in your studies.
@Trina M Nagele – Thank you again for the lesson you sent and the great Snowman link. I loved your poem and especially the “mow Zenny mow” part. She does love her grass. TOO CUTE!
@Shari and Susan in TN – Hello my friends. Hope you are both wonderful!!! Hugs!!!
@JAG and Signofthetimes – You ladies have a fantastic birthday celebration!!!
