Dear Friends,
I hope all of you are well. It is so hard to believe that it is almost October! This year is flying by so quickly.
I must say I am enjoying every moment and having a great time each day at Lane’s End! As I’ve mentioned to you in prior Diary entries, with all of this ‘free time’ in my schedule, I am really investigating several 2nd career options. Currently, I’m diligently working on some very exciting plans and will be sharing them with you very soon.
From the actions I took in these photos, one option I somewhat considered was becoming a HAIR STYLIST. As you can see, while Ann was so affectionately scratching one of my favorite spots…I decided I would redo her hair. Let’s put it this way, she was a GREAT SPORT!
I also tried it with April when she came to visit. I think both of these lovely women did not want to hurt my feelings… but would agree with ME very sweetly…that this is not a 2nd career option for ME! Sometimes you simply have to try different things just to know for yourself that it is NOT for you!
Thank goodness there are other fabulously talented people who do such a great job working in this profession!
Tasty and I share these thoughts all of the time! It really is fun to consider all of the great possibilities!
Enjoy your day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

What a picture of you messing up Ann’s hair Zenny. You are certinly full of fun. I just loved the picture. I cant wait for you to tell us what you have planned for a second career, I hope it will be a real fun thing for you. I love you more each day Zenyatta because of your unusual personality and the love you display for others. You are surely a one and only and I am sure that you were Heaven Sent.
Doreen
RIP Bold Executive, my condolences to his connections.
@signofthetimes, @judy berube – you’re welcome.
@All – Winstar is donating a complimentary season to Tiznow (on his 10th anniversary of winning back to back Classics) for any filly or mare that wins the Classic this November. They want to encourage the fillies and mares to compete in the Classic just like Zenny had. I guess she made a lasting impression (I had no doubt): http://www.brisnet.com/cgi-bin/editorial/journal/full_edition.cgi

I recall when Z first retired some of us expressed the same desire for her getting into dressage, even those with an equestrian backhround. But someone at that said that is never done with a retired breeding mare. I have always thought it would be a nice 2nd career fo Z. Maybe they will just do more fundraising.

TOO FUNNY!! Maybe with that fly mask on Zenny you thought Ann had a hat on like your John’s and you were trying to remove it. :) I use to be a Hairstylist and I might say I don’t want to hurt your feelings but….as a Hairstylist, you’d make a darn good Race Horse. lol Zenny, you could rearrange my hairdo anytime.

Ann Moss is the greatest. Fantastic photo.

Hi, Zenny,
–
I had a great afternoon! I helped a friend groom her three horses! I grew up around horses and rode a lot as a kid. What got me in the mood to do this, though, was I never got to see you up close or hug you, and I thought I could do this vicariously!! So, I washed, and trimmed, and groomed Brad (a Thoroughbred she does eventing with), Shadow, and Buddy! I must say I have a whole new appreciation for what Mario and the Barn 55 crew do! I got to give lots of kisses and hugs and they seemed to like it a lot. I took lots of carrots and apples and I was very popular with all three horses! Next time I go out I plan to start riding again…I was just an amateur as a kid..rode anything and everything. Like Winston Churchill said, there’s nothing better for the inside of a man (or woman!) than the outside of a horse!

Loved your pictures with Ann and April… will be looking forward to hearing more about your second career ideas!

Big hugs. Ann Maree

@Diana S-You are the on ly one who picked up on it. I did speak to my daughter about BC2012 but it is difficult for her to make a commitment. Husband is in the Marine Corps. @JAG-Agree completely about the naming of the foal. It is amazing what a few people can conjure up on this site who would not otherwise be here. @DJ-Off the top of your head, Very funny. @Rosemary McCauley-Good one. @Katie Clawson, future jockey-Good to see you posting. @signofthetimes and Kim S-Thank you. @suzanne pashayan-Would love to hear more of your stories. @Judy Berube-I am sure your father knew that you and your sister loved him. very touching. Are you sure that my jokes are not making Russ worse? @Kari Bussell-It’s been a long time since I have read such good news. @Kari Bussell and Susan in TN-I have partially completed my training on Hoth so here are a few redneck Jedi jokes. You might be a redneck Jedi if you call Hank Williams, Jr. master. You might be a redneck Jedi if your father’s name is Garth Vader. You might be a redneck Jedi if you got your light saber by sending in 700 Skoal lids. Here is today’s joke–A rather attractive woman goes up to the bar in a quiet rural place. She gestures alluringly at the bartender, who comes over immediately. She signals him to bring his face close to hers. When he does so, she began to gently caress his beard. “Are you the manager?” she asked softly, stroking his face with both hands. “Actually, no,” he replies. “She then said “Can you get him for me–I need to talk to him.” The bartender replied “I’m afraid that I can’t. Is there anything I can do?” The woman then said “Yes, there is. I need you to give him a message.” All the while, the woman was popping a couple of fingers into his mouth and allowed him to suck them gently. She then said “Tell him that there is no toilet paper in the ladies room.”

Thank you soooo much for posting all these pictures, I enjoy each one :)

Hi Zenny, that pic of you and Ann is adorable! I would let you do my hair if you wanted too. ^____^
I’m looking forward to hearing what second career option you have chosen. I hope it is something you enjoy doing!
Love to all,
Leslie

“Hairstyling by Zenyatta” … hmmm, it has a certain ring to it… but we’d have to pay and tip her with carrots, wouldn’t we? All the local grocers and farmers markets would sell out quickly!
@Kari B — add one more name to those praying for you. I’ve so enjoyed your posts, let’s go for many years more of them!
@ everyone else struggling with health issues… we are all on here pulling for each other.
@Trina N and Susan in TN — thanks for the kind words for my beautiful Saluki, Sally. Her official name is Timaru Solitaire CD, JC, CGC and we are working on changing that “JC” (Junior Courser) to “SC” which is Senior courser —earned in competition. She was the national top Saluki in obedience in 2005 and 2006 when her breeder showed her. I am really proud of her new CGC title as it is for Canine Good Citizen … Salukis are elegant and fast and all that, but they operate on their own rules and don’t respond like other breeds, more like cats! So any obedience success is truly a feat. I must admit this one is VERY willing to please… her dad was born in Australia and was a famous show champion there and in US and Sweden; her mother was a top show and coursing and obedience champion in US and Canada. SO: the genes were there!!! She’s my companion and that’s the best of all.
No, I don’t have a feral-cat refuge (that I know of)… I have one barn kitty and she patrols her little territory, but the neighbors’ cats take the overlap. There’s a 1,000 acre ranch over my back fence so we have lots of wild turkeys, deer, coyotes, even cougars (I lost a VERY good 6 month old colt to a cougar attack about 20 years ago) and even an occasional bear. As far as I am concerned it’s a refuge for any critter that does not misbehave. Even the rattlesnake I found in the feed shed a month or so back. Mostly it’s a refuge for my old retired Arabians and myself. I am the only one allowed to misbehave .

Hey Queen Z! These pictures are TOO CUTE!!! I know a quarter horse who would like to be a hair dresser along with my Thoroughbred who is a grandson of Seattle Slew! I know you and Bernie’s baby is gonna be a champion one day!
Pat Beck
Are you getting more chestnutty, my girl? Love you always, Z.
Linda Hoke
Gloria, it’s a KINDNESS to put a fly mask on a horse. If you can, go to a feed store (or saddle shop) and find a fly mask and look through it from the horse’s point of view. You’ll find it’s like looking through a screen door, and the horse has pretty good vision without being bothered by those pesky flies. Just think of a fly mask as a caring gesture by the owner or caretaker. Also, I agree that Zenny is probably just returning the favor of being petted and scratched in her favorite spot – plus she probably enjoys messing with people’s hair just for fun, too. Isn’t Zenny the sweetest thing? I think so. That’s a whole lot of loving!
Jeanie
Judy, Rosemary, all Z’isters,
I asked Marlene about the extension the other day and she said she’s check on it, but didn’t sound real sure about it. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT IF ONE IS HELD BACK FROM THE TRUCK, ANOTHER MUST TAKE ITS PLACE. WHEN THERE ARE ENOUGH HORSES TO FILL THE TRUCK, THE TRUCK GOES TO CANADA OR MEXICO OR SOME OTHER NASTY PLACE WHERE THESE THINGS HAPPEN. WE’RE NOT SAVING THEM ALL, YOU KNOW. THERE ARE OTHERS THERE. BUT IF WE EACH SCRAPED UP $10, WE COULD DO THIS. I CAN’T STAND TO SEE THAT LITTLE PAINT WITH THE BOY RIDING HIM AND THE SWEET ONE THAT ALWAYS COMES TO THE FENCE AND THE BEAUTIFUL BIG MARE. I WILL TRY TO SEE IF I CAN REACH MARLENE FOR AN UPDATE. THANK YOU ALL.

Zenny what can’t you do? Thank you for sharing the pictures of your recent visit with your family. How sweet you & Ann are together. You can see how much you both love each other. Can’t wait to hear what your next career move is. XOXO

Karen Keen
You are a gorgeous girl, Zenny. I love you.
Samantha
I gotta say one thing, Zenny… YOU LOOK HUGE in the first picture!!
It was almost a year ago when I got my breeders cup tickets and was more than siked to see you (meaning I almost peed my pants when I held the ticket that would soon let me be able to watch the greatest rac ehorse ever) but, now in a year, everything has changed, funny how in one year, everything can be different.
Love you, Zen. Please continure to post pictures so I can load my locker up with you. (Yes, my school locker is filled with pictures of YOU!)
janet Cutting
Love!!! love the pictures of YOU– and you really are a big girl, Zenny. You are a stunning sight!!! Glowing too!!!
Sue Fredrick
@Anyone, did I miss something about new hope for Kari Bussell, I’ve read a few posts here and got hints of something new. What Happened?
Barbara Wood
@Sue Fredrick–yes, a new possible treatment in Atlanta! I can’t remember if it’s on today’s diary or at the end of yesterday’s.
@Patricia– I am so sorry for the loss of your colt. That must have been an awful experience for you, even if it was 20 years ago.
@Jeanie–thank you for keeping up with reports from Marlene. I just didn’t want to burden her with another e-mail to answer, so I’m counting on you for reports. Thank you so much.
