Happy Friday to ALL!
I so hope all of you are well…and our friends who needed some of our ‘special thoughts’ earlier this week are doing better!
Recently, I have spent some time outdoors with Matt contemplating so many different things. On Saturday, BLACK CAVIAR is competing in the G2–Schweppes Stakes at Moonee Valley Racecourse. She is going for her 15th victory in a row…with the hope of becoming 15 for 15. Here’s wishing her a safe and successful trip! This is quite an accomplishment to achieve the first 14 victories…so all the best to her!
Then in America, we have some wonderful races taking place over the next few days. New York has their Showcase Day on Saturday. The Breeders’ Cup prep events are concluded and we are now gearing up for the Pre-Entries to be taken on Monday morning. It is getting quite exciting!
The majority of horses preparing to run in the World Championship races will probably have 2 more workouts before their BIG DAY! So much needs to be organized and planned in advance so each horse is RIGHT ON TARGET to do his/her best when competing in these events!
As for my dear pal, ZAZU, she will not be participating in the Ladies’ Classic this year. After she breezed the other morning, she had an inflammation in her right shoulder area. The proper tests were performed. It was discovered very quickly and she will be 100% soon. She simply needs some RNR at this time. Zazu will be out of her regular training routine for about 90 days. During that time, she will be hand-walked a couple times each day and enjoy a well-deserved and relaxing vacation.
We thoroughbred horses are athletes…no different than humans. Sometimes, we are not quite ourselves, for one reason or another. Fortunately, we have wonderful people around us who pick up on this very quickly…and the proper measures are taken to be sure we will be fine.
The technology today is also at such a high level. The veterinarians and vet hospitals have machines that can evaluate the different parts of a horse’s body to see exactly what is going on with specific bones and muscles. The level of sensitivity that these machines can analyze and detail is quite amazing. The constant growth and progress in this aspect of the industry truly amazes ME!
Relax and have a fun weekend! As for ME, I’m resting up for MY PARTY. It takes place exactly 2 weeks from today!
With Love,
Hugs to All,
Z

Congratulations to Gelila and Mike Smith. When John Shirreffs and the Mosses team up something always good seems to happen. Wish you were still racing, Zenyatta, but you ended your career in good form and I am sure that you are having fun at Lanes End.

Dear Abigail from Montreal and Z Fans:
Wow, what a beauty is Ofevre. Beautiful Chestnut. Looked like the jockey just showed him the whip; never used it. He was on cruise control in the end. Hugs, JB

@Diana S….My deepest sympathy in the loss of your dear Auntie Helen. Sounds like hers was truly a life well lived.
@Judy B., Trina N., Signofthetimes, Kimberly Potter, Debbie G, and all who sent good wishes and congratulations to my new grandson and I….thank you so much! He would thank you himself, but he is too busy sucking on his pacifier and fingers at the same time :)
@Kennedys and Sign…those breeding procedure links were really interesting. Thanks!

@Margaret
Thanks for all the information and stories. I know
You have read a lot on this subject and really
Enjoy your posts.

@Margaret
Yes, I think some mares can be hussies, just
Like humans. They do like their men. I think the
Breeding shed experience could be frightening because
It is so orchestrated for some mares. I guess that is
Why all the prep work for both.

@The Mosses
Love that name Gelila, there will be a great one
from you for baby Z/B
Deborah Richman, So. Cal.
Margaret…agree with signofthetimes post above. Thank you for all the info!
Delrene from Carlsbad, Ca
Watched the video of Japanese Triple Crown winner Ofevre – He is so handsome and all the horses were just beautiful. What a race. Really kicked it into turbo-gear at the end. Zenyatta – if you were watching….. in the stable on tv – he looks pretty amazing.
and what great news to Gelila. Would love to watch her run . Maybe I can find it on Santa Anita racetrack website. Fun to see Mike in the turquoise and pink colors again.
We are in fog and crummy gray weather. Hope you are cozy.

TRINA NEGELE- That was an impressive letter you wrote to the parole board. Hope your letter and those of the rest of us who write will have a direct impact on their decision.
Thanks for responding to this issue so definitively and eloquently.

The CUTEST blog from our boy, Steve Haskin, entitled “Girls Go Wild.” Of course, sweet Zenny, you make an appearance — along with a breathtaking array of other Super Girls!!!!

@Congrats to Black Caviar. The girls are really showing up!
@Deborah Richman, SO. Cal– Congratulations! How neat “We” have had 2 grandbabies in one week! Happy times.

Zenyatta, you bring such goodness, love and joy into my life. You are the soulful train whistle that makes me yearn for home, the waffs of cinnamon and vanilla from my Mom’s kitchen when she made Christmas cookies, a boxful of golden retriever puppies… As the announcer said, “How do you describe perfection…Why try.”

@Margaret
Glad you are feeling better, too.

Yes, I hope Shack gets his spirit back. How will he know
He is going a mile?

Thanks everyone for the wonderful and informative posts.
A special thank you to Sign of the Times and the Kennedys for the video and posts about breeding.
And another special thanks to Dawn Conrad for that terrific Secretariat video and Silver Charm information.
I am working this weekend, so I don’t have much time to write.
See you all soon.

@Sue Fredrick– SO sorry I won’t be there. I might have if I had learned of it sooner. We had already planned the trip we just returned from. Would love to have pictures with names!

What is your real name? Others here reveal their full or at least first name and state they live in. Why do you choose to to remain anonyomous? I’m curious, what is your occupation? I have noticed you have many many entries each day at all hours. Do like have a life other than making sure you are seen as a wealth of info regarding horses? You seem to spend a lot of time here, more than others. Just sayin’. I can anticipate your response. By the way, most of what you post is readily available elsewhere
