Happy Friday to ALL!
I so hope all of you are well…and our friends who needed some of our ‘special thoughts’ earlier this week are doing better!
Recently, I have spent some time outdoors with Matt contemplating so many different things. On Saturday, BLACK CAVIAR is competing in the G2–Schweppes Stakes at Moonee Valley Racecourse. She is going for her 15th victory in a row…with the hope of becoming 15 for 15. Here’s wishing her a safe and successful trip! This is quite an accomplishment to achieve the first 14 victories…so all the best to her!
Then in America, we have some wonderful races taking place over the next few days. New York has their Showcase Day on Saturday. The Breeders’ Cup prep events are concluded and we are now gearing up for the Pre-Entries to be taken on Monday morning. It is getting quite exciting!
The majority of horses preparing to run in the World Championship races will probably have 2 more workouts before their BIG DAY! So much needs to be organized and planned in advance so each horse is RIGHT ON TARGET to do his/her best when competing in these events!
As for my dear pal, ZAZU, she will not be participating in the Ladies’ Classic this year. After she breezed the other morning, she had an inflammation in her right shoulder area. The proper tests were performed. It was discovered very quickly and she will be 100% soon. She simply needs some RNR at this time. Zazu will be out of her regular training routine for about 90 days. During that time, she will be hand-walked a couple times each day and enjoy a well-deserved and relaxing vacation.
We thoroughbred horses are athletes…no different than humans. Sometimes, we are not quite ourselves, for one reason or another. Fortunately, we have wonderful people around us who pick up on this very quickly…and the proper measures are taken to be sure we will be fine.
The technology today is also at such a high level. The veterinarians and vet hospitals have machines that can evaluate the different parts of a horse’s body to see exactly what is going on with specific bones and muscles. The level of sensitivity that these machines can analyze and detail is quite amazing. The constant growth and progress in this aspect of the industry truly amazes ME!
Relax and have a fun weekend! As for ME, I’m resting up for MY PARTY. It takes place exactly 2 weeks from today!
With Love,
Hugs to All,
Z

Zenyatta: Beautiful photo of you and Matt. Two weeks from today to PARTY TIME. It will be very exciting, and I’m especially excited for the unveiling of the life size portrait.
@ANYONE – Has there been any news on the presentation of Dottie’s b-day surprise? I emailed Karen G a couple of times but have not received a response. Also, a while back there we were all asked to vote for Zenyatta to be on the cover of the BC calendar. I can’t find any details on what happened with that. Maybe I’ll call Churchill and find some info.
@Terry Crow – Hope to have you back with jokes, knowledge, etc., etc. soon.

how gracious that you are cheering for Black Caviar – for every equine competitor for that matter!! Zenny/Dottie you are the perfect ambassadresses (a word?) for thoroughbred racing! RNR for yourselves, too. take care, Zazu

@Signofthetimes, each farm has its own policies regarding visitation. Some allow visitors during breeding season and some do not. You can find out details by checking the farm’s website or by calling the office. I think all of them require an appointment.

@ Dawn, Thank you so much for the Three Chimneys post, I really have to get myself on that mailing list. How nice of them to open up for visits on a walk-in basis during BC week. Any Dumplings who visit would be doing me a huge favor if they left a little peppermint for Rahy. I saw him in July and will treasure the photo I took of him that day. The account of the Make a Wish visit was delightful, Dynaformer not on show for the kids altho he was pretty well behaved for our visit.

I’m sorry to hear Zazu will not be racing in the Ladies’ Classic. I am glad she is in good hands and wish her a speedy and complete recovery.

@Dawn and anyone interested in Point Given: there is a great YouTube video with Gary Stevens visiting some old friends in Lexington area, including Point Given. He chokes up when he talks about the Kentucky Derby they lost, but won the other two: http://youtu.be/6eUDQlOlvY0
Really a sweet video. Hope you enjoy.

Hi Z
Thanks for thinking of me. I am better. My ears are so much clearer–they don’t hurt at all now!
I was sorry to hear about Zazu. I hope she’ll be okay. Wonder if they are contemplating her second career…
Well on this point–another horse in Florida is undergoing hyperbaric chamber therapy. It is so fascinating. If you go to youtube and look under equine therapy you’ll see lots of videos. Videos of swimming etc. And you thought Biggest Loser campus was totally cool. You’d pay to go on vacation to one of these places! I mean us humans would! It is that fabulous. We don’t get tv but OMG you’d be so pampered…
Good thoughts to my fellow friends here who are on the mend and those waiting there turn at this nasty cold. My best advice??? If you can–get a flu shot. If you are on Medicare–there is NO COST. Other plans–I don’t know. The flu shot won’t guarantee protection from a cold, but it can lessen the effects of the flu if you get it, if not protect period.
If you do get sick keep an eye on how many days its been–if no better after several days and its getting worse–see a doctor. You could have the flu or it could be going into bronchitis–which is not fun.

@signofthetimes – Happy Friday! I am at work, but just wanted to drop you a quick line. As LauraJ indicated, each of the farms do have their own rules for visitors and all do require appointments to be made. Yes, Three Chimneys does allow visitors throughout the breeding season and as Brenda S described if a breeding session is actually taking place while you are on tour, they allow those who are interested to view it. When I get home tonight, I will write up some info on the various farms I am familiar with and post it this weekend. Maybe that will give you and others just a little head start in your own research. :) :)
