Good Morning,
We have all had a day to review the Breeders’ Cup pre-entries and the anticipated fields. It will be very interesting to follow the cross-entered horses as they finalize their racing plans.
The next step in the ENTRY process for the Championship EVENTS will take place on October 31st. This is the day when the connections formally ENTER their horse for a specific race and the final fees are paid by the owner. Fourteen horses will be accepted for the BODY of each field and 2 also-eligibles…if the race is over-subscribed.
To quote the Breeders’ Cup Horsemens’ Information Guide on the final entry options which might be considered on this day, “A horse will be permitted to enter 2 Breeders’ Cup Championships races under the following conditions: (i) the horse is eligible for both races; (ii) the races will be contested on different days; (iii) the pre-entry and entry fees are paid for both races; and (iv) neither race is oversubscribed. A horse may not double-enter Breeders’ Cup Championships races if the effect of such double entry is to exclude another horse from competing. A horse entered in two Championship races on different days may not compete on both days.”
“Scratch time for all Championships races to be contested on both Championship Friday and Championship Saturday will be 8:00 a.m. (EDT, Friday, November 4, 2011.”
Thus, a horse like GIO PONTI will have to decide the race he is competing in by the October 31st Entry dead-line. He has pre-entered for both the MILE and the CLASSIC. They both run on the same day…so his decision must be finalized on this entry date. The same would be true of SIDNEY’S CANDY who is cross-entered in the MILE DIRT and TURF…which both run on the same day.
So many details! It is always interesting to note how many things need to be properly taken care of to make these days go smoothly for all concerned.
Amidst all of these things, the horses and their connections need to travel to CHURCHILL DOWNS, settle in, and train forwardly for these special races.
The European contingent arrives in large groups on certain days and must immediately go to a Quarantine Barn area. These horses reside in this special area during their stay at Churchill Downs and train together at a special designated time each morning.
Other participating horses arrive from different racing jurisdictions on the various plane schedules each trainer is working with right now. In reality, so many detailed ‘safety procedures’ on so many specific levels are constantly initiated and followed by our industry for the benefit of all.
There is so much to think about right now!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(A special hug to our dear friend,Samantha, at this very difficult time…the loss of her beloved father, Mace.)

Joyce and everyone concerned with Omaha’s
remains: Even after all this time, Omaha’s remains would still be there…*Noor In Memory Of A Champion Facebook tells the story of how *Noor’s remains were found, along with photos of his entire body (what is left) including bones. He was buried in 1974. Erin Dwyer the archaeologist was able to recover bones, and the head bones as well. 90% of *Noor was found. So there would be hope to recover him, and to have a proper resting place for him to sleep.

I hate when that happens! Geez!

@Gloria Jeanne — Thank you for the link to Zenyatta on the carousel — she looks beautiful!

@Allie – I think they tried to honor this great champion, especially since he had the same name as the city where he was buried. I’ll keep trying to get more current information. It is selfish on my part but I’m pleased that I could contribute a small piece to the history of one of the great champions. It is rare that so many people share such a common bond in their love for these incredible animals and my heartfelt thanks goes out to every one of you for sharing your thoughts and prayers, not only for the health and well-being of all horses but for each other. In this day of worldwide instability, this site is a safe harbor for all of us. We couldn’t do this, of course, without Zenyatta and her team who give us hope for the future.

@The Kennedys in San Diego – Thanks for the link to Larry Jones, it is so nice to see one of the good guys coming back strong after the heartbreak he experienced. Havre De Grace is a wonderful gift!

@ Maureen in Santa Barbara….I enjoyed so much reading your update on Giacomo. I have watched the Adena Springs video many times with the wonderful dialog given by the gentleman who was in charge of his particular area. I hope we get to see a new video of him when he gets more settled.

Z, once again, thank you so much for such great info about the Cup. Love you bunches and bunches, my precious girl, Hugs, Ann Maree

Wow Zen it sure does get complicated with all this entry business but I guess if you do it all the time it becomes second nature. I’m getting so excited about your party but it’s 7+ days away so I’m trying to pace myself so I’m not worn out for our long trip from Wisconsin. Sure hope I get to see you in person but will settle for the video if I have to.
@Terry Crow and Kari Bussell hope you two are doing okay and remember Kari if I do win the visit with Z you are party of our group so you come with us!
@Maureen In Santa Barbara, isn’t Giacomo just stunning, I enjoyed seeing him at Adena in Kentucky. Do you know the name of the A P Indy stallion you saw there….I’m curious who he is, I’m a big Indy fan.
@GLoria Jeanne don’t feel too bad about Rapid Redux winning #19, he isn’t in the same class as Zenny. I send my Congrats to him it’s still a big accomplishment and hope this insures the owner will provide a nice retirement for him….he deserves it.
Luv you Z and kisses on your nose.

We are hoping Gio Ponti decides on the Classic, but our guess is he will go for the Mile. We do love that horse.

Cannot get this vision out of my mind: Tasty vanning Zenyatta to Churchill Downs as someone posted yesterday. This was in response to “And They’re Off” when Steve Haskin listed as one of the Top Ten predictions for the Breeders’ Cup — “After reviewing the pre-entries for the race,Zenyatta will enter herself in and win the Ladies Classic at seven months pregnant.” Someone with a sketch pad should post that one on her Facebook page. Tasty at the wheel, The Queen waving from the van.

Joyce in Vegas,
I am so glad you are on this. What about contacting someone at the University of Nebraska, Omaha? How long would it take for bones to decomp? I would think they would still be around. There is imaging technology that could maybe help find the bones. What do you think? I would be happy to call, but don’t want to call if you are…let me know. j

@Jeanie – I sent an email to UNO and suggested that this might be a good research project for them. And I have feelers out to other resources. But feel free to call UNO and light a fire under them! I may try to get the Omaha World Herald interested in a follow up article and let them do some of the research or at least share some of their resources.

Last year at this time I couldn’t wait for BCC weekend. I was getting to see you run for the second time “in the flesh”. It was one of the best weekends ever. Friday was a nasty day, but Saturday turned out beautiful. Hope the weather behaves this year even though they are calling for rain. This year will not be the same. Actually i am really looking foward more to the BCJ. That is going to be a good race. XO’s Thank you again for all thta you do Team Zenyatta, and thank you again for being so gracious the Sunday after. You made it a magical weekend.
