Good Morning,
There is always so much going on in our industry! That is what makes it such a fascinating sport! On Sunday evening, Fasig Tipton had their select sale. Horses of quality…both in race record and pedigree sold extremely well.
Then on Monday, the Keeneland November Sale began. The first 2 days have been amazing. If you want to review all of the prices and horses sold, please go to KEENELAND website. Click on SALES….and then the heading for CURRENT SALE. You will be able to see the results. They are also showing the sale as it is taking place live, if you’d like to see that as well. It is all quite interesting.
On a personal note, the TOO CUTE part of the last few days is that MY JOHN got to see 2 of my family members at different stages of their development. In the above photo, my yearling 1/2 sister by Henrythenavigator is just beginning to learn to take direction….to turn to the left…..and then turn to the right. Every single part of this learning process is extremely important. One step builds upon another until a horse is ready to get a rider on it’s back and go to the training track. These detailed steps are all part of the early stages of the ‘breaking process’. Patience is so important and each day a step forward is hopefully taken.
The other family member, my weanling 1/2 sister also by Henrythenavigator, sold on Monday at the Keeneland Sale. She is now several months old….and to quote MY JOHN….quite good looking! Since he knows ME so well and now spends so much time with EBLOUISSANTE, he loves to see how the entire family is developing. I think he sees so many family traits in all of us: strong hind quarters, adorable ‘inquisitive ears’, and good bone structure!
The weanling was HIP 36 and sold to Adena Springs Farm for $1,500,000 Dollars. John tried to capture the video of her selling in the ring for you. Here’s the video.
Hmm! I must say, my family is TOO CUTE! It is great fun keeping up with all of them and their progress! I wonder what these 2 fillies will be named by their owners?
Have a wonderful Wednesday!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z
Oh, by the way, so many of you asked about my poster of the Jaime Corum painting. The final details for my new SHOP are just getting completed. The link to purchase this poster will be available by the end of the week. It is really very special…if I say so myself! (Blush, Blush!)

@Roseann, prospective/new owners are not required to purchase insurance, but it is highly recommended. The policy should be made effective at the drop of the hammer.

@Rosemary McCauley, excellent answers!

@Mary M. Meek: Thank you for the video. Hey, at the very end it looks like she took a little misstep. Did I see that wrong?

@Susan in TN: Thank you

@Everyone else: I am sure I should know this, but is Zenny’s mom in foal and if so to who? Also, Julie DuVall noted that V has had a lot of fillies. I know someone will have the answer to this next question without having to look it up, has she had any colts?

Zenny, Thanks for sharing the pictures of your half sisters, the baby looks very sleek and has ears just like you. The yearling looks kind of chunky and ready to herd cows. As for YOU, I agree with The Kennedys, is there anything you can’t do? Just make sure that you take it easy and pamper baby Z. I know that Sarah and Matt will make sure that you stay a calm and contented Mommy-to-be.

Hi Zenny: I don’t know if you ever heard of the Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird, but he has a book out that looks really adorable. I was at the 135th Kentucky Derby and saw Mine That Bird come from way behind (he had your racing style) and finished first. I thought your fans might find his little book intriguing:

@Rosemary- just my humble opinion. I started my 2 year old event horse exactly like that over a summer then turned her out til she was 3 when more serious training started- she had a very long and successful career to over 18. My current equine partner was 4 when he went into serious training and was not saddled til 3

Thanks, everyone, for your nice wishes and comments regarding Hicktstead. Eric did a press conference today and all I could think of was how much I would just like to give him a big hug and let him know how much Canada and horse people/lovers in general are behind him. He mentioned all the emails he’s received so maybe he knows.
Awww Daina! You lucky person! I would have loved to see him at WEG! I had tix to the final 4, but fell off my horse 6 weeks before and broke 7 ribs so couldn’t go. Cheered him on from my bed though…man what a horse.
For those interested – his winning round at the 2008 Olympics is superb and well worth the watch!
Carolyn – sorry about your loss of Sheba – hugs to you!

Rosemary,
I believe you are right, it looks like the same handler as Zenyatta. Lucky lady.

I’ll probably feel foolish when I see the answer, but right now I am clueless. At the end of the descriptions of some of the mares being offered in the auction at Keeneland, they will say,”she is KPIF registered”. Could someone please enlighten me as to what that means?
@Susan in TN- How are Chester and Chopper doing? I expect they missed you while you were gone for your son’s wedding. Hopefully, they were able to keep each other’s spirits up.
@Peggy (N)-Thought I would let you know I had my follow up oncology appointment on Monday and all is fine. I love those “thumbs up” appointments.
@Peppermint- Where do you live in Co? I agree with you, the weather right now is beautiful.

Ah, our 4 leg partners! Be they large or small take up such a large part of our hearts. But the grief we experience just makes our hearts soft for our next partner. I have lived long enough to have lost several, and any grief is worth it to have known them.
Carolyn Caswell-Brown, my sympathy to you.
Zenny, my yes, you do have a beautiful family! the true beauty is in the puddin—-and you have proved yours! There can be only one Zenny!!!

@Sharon in Seattle – I am also a Gio Ponti fan! This summer we got to see him in the Arlington Million and he was quite impressive (second to Cape Blanco). Quite a record to be in the money 22 of 29 starts – and think what his record might have been if he hadn’t had to go up against Zenyatta and Goldikova. Where is Castleton Lyons? I’m hoping to get to KY in the next few years to see all the stars of racing.
@Dottie – To quote from the Secretariat movie – Thank you for being Zenyatta’s “voice”!!
Rosemary McCauley - Southern California
@Linda – That particular handler looks very professional and gentle. I noticed how gentle she was with Zenyatta. Did you notice that this baby didn’t want to leave the ring? She either wanted to stay with that handler or she liked being in the limelight, or both.

Love hearing news about all your siblings. They are all so beautiful. Such poise for a yearling in that Keeneland sale! Just stunning! Be sure to thank John for sharing that video with us!!
Enjoy your day!!

@Victoria – I know exactly what you mean -I had hunter/jumpers and tried dressage for a while and showed in western pleasure classes, along with a little showing at halter. Those horses had a completely different training schedule than race horses, thoroughbreds or quarter horses, in my experience. Different horses, different programs. But they’re all wonderful and wonderful to be around. To have them with good trainers and good owners and excel at whatever sport they are bred for is truly amazing.

Zenyatta and Team Zenyatta, I was so sorry that I could not come to your party at Churchill, but had some friends who filled me in on the fun. I went to the BC on Saturday and had a BLAST! I also went to Lane’s End on Sunday to see the ‘boys’ and they are all doing well. Saw some photos of you and some of my friends during BC Week – you look spectacular! Well, I better get off here and fix some dinner! Stop by anytime! xoxo

@Nicole Tufano—Thank you for posting about the foal Autumn. She needs and deserves help. Here’s another link where people can donate without going to fb. Scroll down to the bottom of today’s entry to find a brief update on Autumn and to donate. If you scroll further down, you will find a tribute to Hickstead on the Nov. 8 entry, and scroll down to Nov 7 for a longer entry on little Autumn complete with photos. http://horseandman.com/ I sent a personal donation and I know Equi-Army No Days Off sent a donation too. We’re hoping for the best for her.
@Carolyn Caswell-Brown—-My heart goes out to you on the loss of your beloved Sheba. Now she will wait for you at the Rainbow Bridge.
@The Kennedys—Thanks for the news about MMM’s win. High hoof to him!
@Rosemary McCauley—Thanks so much for your very informative posts.
@Mary M. Meek—Thanks for the video of Z’s half-sister before the sale.

@All: I’m copying a request for help from a very good friend. If any of you have some advice, please contact me diastu46@gmail.com Her Max is a 17-year-old terrier that I love too.
D: I know you have “just cats” .. but are you or any of your peeps aware of any holistic/homeopathic treatment for kidney disease for canines? Max has been diagnosed with kidney disease/failure … we’re not going to do anything drastic (ie., dialysis or surgery) – just the sub-cutanious injections in order for him to stay hydrated. We’re giving him daily .5mg of famotidine, along with kibble that’s specifically for kidney disease, supplemented with a scoop of pure pumpkin or cooked oatmeal or banana & baby carrots for treats. At this point it’s all about his comfort level/quality of life .. but just wondering if anyone out there has found a paliative treatment for “mid-stage” kidney failure …

@Especiallyhorses. If I’m not mistaken, Z’s dam is bred back to Street Cry, Z’s sire which will mean that when this foal is born next year it will be a full sister or brother to Z.

Oh Zenny your 1/2 sisters are real cuties and thank you to John for posting the pic and video. I have just now got caught up with postings after my trip so forgive me for late comments.
@ALL CANADIANS so sorry for your loss of the magnificent Hickstead. I have watched many jumping events and marveled at the way he flew around the ring. So sad….RIP
@JAG I loved your videos of JH and shared your love of him. I feel that way about AP Indy and spent Sunday morn visiting him, I even paid his groom extra for a picture of us together…..me with my arms around his neck and my head resting on him. My girlfriend took the pics from in front to get his handsome head. I was estatic until I got home and found out that my hubby forgot to put the pic disc in the camera. There was a lady named Susanne from Cal (Indy lover too) who said she snapped pics too so I gave her my name and address so she could send them to me. My husbands life rests on that fact, so if she reads these posts PLEASE SEND THOSE PICS I’LL PAY FOR EVERYTHING!!!
@CONGRATS to Gio Ponti and Mo on their retirements may they be long and happy ones.
@BARBARA WOOD yes I had a ball at the party wish you had come would have loved to meet you.
@BLIND LUCK thank god my mighty mouse got a good home with the doctor hope we continue to hear about her.
@NICOLE TUFANO what a sad story about little Autumns Hope will donate something when I can for her recovery.
@CAROLYN CASWELL BROWN sending comfort hugs for the loss of your Sheba so many of us cry with you.
Luv you Z and kisses on your nose

Thank you to your John for the video of your sister in the selling ring. She is absolutely adorable.

Who has your half sister by Henry the Navigator in training? Loved your gorgeous bay half-sister at auction. We are anxiously awaiting John’s big announcement as to when E will be starting? Mike E leaves ter comments on his facebook page providing E’s times when he works her. If I know John, it will probably not be until next year when she turns 3, just like he did with you, since you are probably both late developers.
Mary
Wow….your half sister at auction is beautiful and adorable …she seems to love the attention already…and those ears were so up…and she was looking all around. It is fun to see the traits of you in them. But they will never be as special or beautiful or smart as you. Okay..I am a super duper fan and guess I am prejudiced.
Hugs to you Z…. tell John thanks for the video…was fun to watch. :)

Hi Zenyatta. Your sisters are too cute and possess a strong family resemblance. Cannot wait to see what your baby will look like. Hopefully, she/he will take after mommy – don’t get me wrong, daddy “ain’t bad” but mommy is beautiful. Baby has to have your ears and strong hind quarters!!! Love you, stay comfy, eat well for two, have fun, love you, Angel.
Karen
She’s beautiful, Zenny, and seems so sweet just like you. But there is only one Zenyatta. I love you.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE – MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT ZENYATTA AND ALL HER ACCOMPLISHMENTS. I know that sometimes in life due credit is not always given to people or animals until they have passed on to another life. In Zenyatta’s case I don’t think that should happen. She has done so much for racing and organizations and she could do so much more if she could reach a wider audiance and what better way than the movies – it could also be played on iPads/ipods/iTunes and the vast WWW internet. Please don’t wait until she is gone before something is written about her or a movie with oh I don’t know live shots of her playing in her paddock with her foal by her side. This is very important to me and I think she has a wide enough fan base to make this a very successful movie.
Thank you – Love and Hugs!!!! I’m a huge fan and I have been following her for a long time. I have always wanted her to get the recognition she deserves.

MARQUETRY/OLD FRIENDS:
This beautiful boy had to have colic surgery. I believe Old Friends could use some help with his bill. He is the sweetest horse and so very gentle. If you go to Old Friends facebook page you can check him out. I was so impressed with him when I was there. He has sired a couple of breeders’ cup champions too.
Thanks
M. Kern
Wow! They look so cute! I can see the similarity. Thanks for sharing the picture and video. I have my fingers crossed that they would also excel at the race track. I love you Queen Z!
