Happy Monday Dear Friends,
I must say, whenever MY JOHN visits he has so many wonderful compliments for ME. He has always allowed ME the opportunity to be ME…and to feel so good about myself. I love spending time with him!
Per my California update this morning from Dottie, I heard that it rained over one inch in just a few hours yesterday afternoon at Hollywood Park. For some parts of the country, this happens quite a bit…but in Los Angeles, this is truly a rarity. Thus, the last few races at Hollywood Park were canceled…simply for safety
reasons.
This morning, it is absolutely gorgeous there…the sun is shining brightly and it is crisp and lovely outside. It is the perfect November morning! Thus, the track should dry out quickly. All should be A-OK for the horses and Hollywood Park’s Autumn Festival of racing to take place there this weekend.
On other racing fronts, I do want to send a HIGH HOOF to Steve Asmussen on winning his 6,000th race this weekend. This is truly a remarkable accomplishment…and then to top it off by having SABERCAT win the Delta Jackpot adds to the FUN!
The Delta Princess went to NOW I KNOW who is now 5 for 5 in her racing career. This is very special! Congratulations to this lovely filly and all of her connections.
Then tonight, RAPID REDUX goes for #20 in a row at Mountaineer Park. His race runs at 9:55 Eastern….6:55 Pacific. All the best to him in this one mile event! My Lane’s End friends and I will be watching! His sire is Pleasantly Perfect…who is one of the stallions who stands here at our farm. Good Luck, Rapid Redux, in this quest!
With Love,
Hugs to all~

Good morning Zenyatta! I’m glad the weather has been nice for you back there in Kentucky. It’s an unusal day here in the high desert of California, we have fog. I know you saw that alot down at Hollywood Park but it is quite out of the ordinary here.

Hi, Zenny!!!
You look so CUTE with YOUR JOHN :0) I love how your mane is blowing in the wind!

Oh, yes, the rain was something else! Us Californians aren’t used to so much at once. Thank you jockeys for telling the officials at HP that it was unsafe to race.
Horses and jockeys do COME FIRST!

It is so great to see you and your John together. I know you both miss each other so much. To bad they can’t let you have a pass for Thanksgiving and go to CA to spend it with your Z team. Just kidding. I know you will be there in there hearts. Love you Zenny

Thank you all for your messages of sympathy regarding the passing of my friend Don. In his honor, I am going to “resurrect” one of his favorite jokes that I have posted before. It seems that four old racetrack budddies had not heard from or seen their friend George for some time. The four of them decided to go to the county morgue to see if, perhaps, he had died. The attendant told them that there were four unidentified bodies there and that if they could help he would be most grateful. The body on the first slaby was uncovered and the buddies said, nope not him. The second body was uncovered and, again, it was not him. The same for the third body. However, when the fourth body was uncovered it was George. Therefore, one of the buddies said “Typical George. Even here he is out of the money.” RIP Don. I guess the next joke will be on me. @Susan in Tn and Kari Bussell-You might be a redneck if you’ve ever given a happy meal toy as a Christmas present. I will be back as soon as possible. I am feeling especially mortal these days.

No offense to RR. But his connections are all about the record. They raced this poor horse back in Aug 4 times in 12 days until folks started complaining. This isn’t about the health of the horse it’s about greed. Next year this horse won’t be able to race at this level so who knows what will happen to him? They raced this horse at least 19 times in the past two years to get to this record.
While I have zilch against the horse–I hope he loses because I don’t want his connections rewarded for their greediness. That’s the only reason. If the horse could win and all the winnings and other hoopla given to a charity–I might feel differently.
Sorry if this bothers some. Just think about it okay? You can still root for the horse, I won’t mind. Just think about it…

Wonderful picture of you and John. As usual you look terrific. Good luck to Rapid Redux tonight. I love you! Hug and kisses to you and Tasty.

Hi Zenyatta. What a gorgeous picture. BUT aren’t they all. John truly adores you as well as all of us. I printed out your pictures with Tasty and will be framing those also. They are absolutely magnificent. We will be going to Lone Star to put in a $2.00 win bet for Rapid Redux. I sure hope he is included in the Horse of the Year finals. He truly deserves it. Congrats to all of the winners this past weekend. What great racing. Unfortunately, Ghose Gunner, Ghostzapper baby, running in Aqueduct stakes race broke down and was vanned off. I have not been able to find out any more information about him. Congrats to Lisa’s Booby Trap who is Top Horse of 2011 at Finger Lakes. My Zenyatta, stay comfy, eat well for two, have a wonderful time with Tasty. Love you, Angel.

Margaret, I completely I agree with you about RR. I’ve been apalled at the positive attention this story has received over the last few months, while to me it sounds completely irresponsible and not in the best interest of the horse and the horse racing industry.

About Rapid Redux…comments made over the weekend on HRTV…this horse has had 17 wins THIS YEAR ALONE! That’s a whole career for many horses and a lot more than some have. I hope the best for the horse…win loose or draw.
Hey, here’s a question for those out there who are ‘in the know’ about broodmare management. Is there a general standard as to how often a mare is bred, i.e. 3 yrs in a row then skip one, or breed every year until something goes wrong?? And any suggested ‘retirement’ age? I’ve read stories of incidents that sound pretty awful to me, like one mare who died from foaling complications at age 23. They didn’t say how many foals she’d had or how recent, but age 23 sounds dangerous to me.
Happy turkey day everybody!
