NEWS ALERT! HEAVY WINDS HIT THE ARCADIA AREA LAST NIGHT! MY JOHN WILL TRY AND GET SOME PHOTOS FOR YOU SOON!
Hello Everyone,
So, so sorry to be posting you this late in the day. MY JOHN and DOTTIE (Sophie too) live in Arcadia, California…right by Santa Anita. Last night, that area had a HUGE wind storm. The winds were the hardest and traveling the fastest any of them can remember. The power is completely out in ALL of Arcadia, the phone / internet lines are not working, and trees are down everywhere. Schools are closed, businesses are also closed…and people are traveling about very carefully due to all of the trees and power lines that are down and blocking the roads.
On Huntington Drive, right by the racetrack, there are cars covered with fallen trees. None of the street signals anywhere in town are working. As for Dottie and MY JOHN, 2 large trees from their neighbors yard fell…and are now in their yard. Thus, the fence is destroyed in 2 places as well. Patio furniture moved around the yard and 2 chairs went into the pool from one of the decks. It is truly amazing to see how these winds could literally MOVE this heavy furniture and force all of these trees to fall.
Dottie went over to Santa Anita late this morning and some of the huge trees by the one escalator are completely down. Smaller trees in the plant are also on the ground. It seems like the backside held up fairly well. At this time, 2:15 CA TIME in the afternoon, all reports on the horses are great. They came through it all like CHAMPS! So, there is much to be very, very thankful for!
From all reports, there is to be more of these high winds later today and tomorrow morning. By noon Friday, the intensity in them is to be rather small….much more like a normal breeze that would happen now and then.
Let’s hope our weather reports are accurate and everyone continues to be SAFE throughout this windstorm.
We will keep you posted. Here’s hoping the power, telephone, and internet services are restored as soon as possible to the ARCADIA AREA.
MY, MY…something ‘FUN” is always happening.
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Zenny, tell your Dottie we are happy to hear from her…we were very worried after hearing news of the storms. Oh, my…it sounds like Barn 55 is very lucky to have survived without damage.
You are so thoughtful…always wanting to keep us informed. I’m sending Dottie, John and all of your CA family a huge {{{ }}} and saying a silent prayer that all are safe.

I’m so glad the horses are all right. I heard it was pretty bad over there last night. There are a few pics of the damages on SA’s Facebook page. One of the local radio stations this morning was asking folks to call in and report the strange things the wind blew into their yards…there were some interesting answers! So sorry about your fence….at least that can be fixed relatively easily. Hang in there!
Laura
Thank you so much for all the updated news. I had no idea this had all happened.
I’m so glad everyone is safe. Things could have been much worse. I have to admit , I was worried about the late posting of the diary today. I read it everyday, it’s my inspration each day.
Thank you, love you……

Be careful! Stay indoors until the wires are removed. It’s sounds like a tornado! Hope the horses weren’t too alarmed!

Yikes! It was very windy on the Westside (L.A.) last night too, but not THAT bad. A lot of lights-out intersections, and the health food store in Venice closed temporarily for a power outage. I’m glad nobody, horse or human, got hurt (so far as I’ve heard).
Mary
Wow…. sounds terrible for John and Dottie’s area of the country. I am glad they are okay …and glad all the horses are okay. Glad I am in Virginia and you are in Kentucky Z….Hugs to you Z!!!

Zenny, we were having a horrible wind storm here in Vallejo, Ca too! It got worst as the day went on and I’m looking outside and the winds are picking up again. According to the news, we had gusts up to 80 mph. I haven’t heard of any damages here, yet. At least, our power did not go out! Thank goodness. As per Dottie, I haven’t seen wind gusts like that here before either. Let’s hope this wind storm passes by quick and that noone gets hurt!
Love ya big Mamma!
Jeanie
Dear Great One,
Thanks for the update on Santa Anita. I am so glad everyone is OK. Tell YOUR JOHN and DOTTIE I know a really good fence repair person! I hope they have a chance today to go check on everyone at Barn 55 at Hollywood Park. I noticed they had a severe weather warning there earlier today, so hope everyone is well.
So today I got hooked on watching your esteemed colleague Cigar mosey around in his paddock. I’m starting to feel like a peeping Tom on that poor guy. But he looks so peaceful, just like YOU.
Hope you and TT have a wonderful fall day. Please check with your Lane’s End pals and see if you can get an update on how PQ is doing. I think about her often!
You take real good care,
Your humble J

Zenny, The weather situation in JOHN and DOTTIE’S area made it to the TV news here. They said that some of the winds were the same as a Cat. 4 hurricane, it sounded pretty bad so thank heaven that the Sherriff family is safe. Hopefully the power will be restored quickly and life will return to normal. Thank you Dottie for letting us know that you are all O.K., as you will have seen we were all concerned.
Kathy S.
Very windy here in Riverside, CA, too. They said in some areas there would be hurricane force winds. Palm fronds EVERYWHERE. Stay safe,Team Z! Batten down the hatches, everyone!
Nancy
Pretty crazy up here in Northern Cal. too. Pretty tame at home but couldn’t go visit my horse pal because winds in Livermore are gusting at 50 mph. One of those days when all the manure from the pasture blows into the arena!
Heidi
I’d trade wind for rain any day!!

So glad to hear all of the horses are okay. I live near Arcadia and last night was a very scary night! There was no sleeping that was going to get done until after 4 am where I live because the winds were so strong. I thought the windows were going to break! We did not lose power (thankfully) and I am only about 10 minutes down the street from Santa Anita, but I saw a few trees uprooted this morning and a LOT of branches all over the streets. Thanks for taking the time to post today. Hope everyone is fine. Take care, all!

Dear Zenny,
Thanks for keeping us abreasts of the horrific winds
In Arcadia, not even a tornado or hurricane, how tragic.
So glad the horses are alright. I know putting together your home
(John and Dottie) will be a huge effort. Wishing an expedient
Physical recovery and all electronics to return to normal quickly.
Hope everyone returns to training quickly. Hope your day in
KY was fulfilled and relaxing. XXXOOO
Kathy B. (SoCal, FL)
There are fallen branches everywhere and a few downed trees (also on top of cars) in the North Hollywood area. The wind is still pretty strong out there this afternoon. Our 6- story building was without elevator service for most of the day after a power outtage last night. I heard the wind gusts were supposed to reach 90 mph last night near the mountains! I’ve been in a few hurricanes and except for the lack of rain it felt very similar! Stay safe everyone in SoCal….hopefully tonight won’t be as bad.
Ingrid Arnone. South Beach.
So glad you all are okay! Love you Zenyatta, Ingrid.

I’m so happy to hear that John and Dottie and little Sophie are safe, along with the horses at the track. Here’s hoping the winds won’t be as strong tonight as they were last night.
